Linksys Wireless Router :: Xbox 360 Slim Won't Connect To WRVS4400n

Jul 23, 2011

As a temp work around I have two SSID now, one for everything else running WPA2 and one for xbox running WPA. The xbox seems to not like the router on WPA2 and though this would make one think, oh its your xbox, thats not always the case with devices. Some just may happen to want to use a feature the device doesn't support correctly and other devices are able to work around it while ones not so I cant for sure blame on xbox.

Netgear WNDR4000 With Xbox 360 Slim Via Wireless-N Adapter

Aug 30, 2011

My friend has had constant issues with his wireless network using his dated Linksys router. So he finally decided to upgrade to the Netgear N750. It's a dual band router that simultaneously broadcasts 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. He setup the 2.4 band for the laptops and mobile devices to access, and the 5 band just for gaming on his xbox 360 Slim. He immediately ran into a problem. The 360 slim's built-in wireless card only picks up 2.4 GHz frequencies. To remedy this, he purchased Microsoft's xbox 360 wireless-N adapter as it can pick up 5 GHz frequencies. However, there was no change after plugging the adapter into the 360 slim. His HP laptop can see the 5 GHz network just fine, so we know it's being broadcast. Could it be the xbox is out of range of the 5 GHz band? Is the adapter not functioning properly with the 360 slim?

D-Link DIR-655 :: Won't Assign IP Address To Xbox 360 Slim

Aug 20, 2011

I've been using the Dir-655 for 2 or 3 years with my old Xbox 360 and an external G wireless adapter.  Everything was working perfectly until I got the dreaded Red Rings Of Death the other day.  I replaced the Xbox with a new Slim version with built in N capable network adapter.

After more than 10 hours of trying a variety of "fixes" I found from MS and in this forum, I am still at square 1.

Hardware Version : A3
Firmware Version : 1.32NA (this is listed as Live compatible by Microsoft)
802.11 Mode : Tried N only, G only and mixed 802.11n and 802.11g
Enable Auto Channel Scan : Checked
Transmission Rate : Best (automatic)
Channel Width : Auto 20/40
Visibility Status : Visible
Security Mode : WPA-Personal Also tried WEP
WPA Mode : Auto (WPA or WPA2)  Also tried WEP
Cipher Type : TKOP and AES

I tried assigning an IP manually from the Xbox. But, no matter what I do, the router will not accept it. It is especially frustrating that the Xbox is visible to the unit. It simply will not assign an IP to it under any circumstance.

If you read the sales hype promoting the Dir-655, you will see a lot of nonsense about it being great for gaming. Given that, you'd think a simple solution would have been found and posted for this issue by now.  Surely, end users shouldn't be trying 100 different possible "fixes", none of which work, at this late stage of the firmware upgrades. If I sound a tad fed up, it's because I am.   After the expense of the new Xbox, it appears I now have to junk my router too.

Here is the status screen taken when it was in mixed mode.  Changing it to 'G Only' didn't make any difference:

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRVS4400N Can't Connect To Internet

Feb 26, 2012

I cant get the WRVS4400N to connect to my cable modem. The WAN link light isnt even lighting up. Im wondering if this unit is bad out of the box. Is there a setting im missing to get them to talk to one another. This is no mention in any of the manuals.

Connections: - The "Internet" port on the WRVS4400N to the "Network" port on my cable modem (No link light)

Here is what i have verified at this point: - My old router connects instantly to the modem when plugged in (Same cable) - When i plug my laptop into the WAN port on the WRVS4400N i get a link light. When i plug the modem into the WAN port...nothing.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Connect E2000 To Pc / Xbox And Ps3

Aug 22, 2012

I've recently started studying for the CCNA exam and one of the first things you learn is the type of cabling required between devices.Basically, I got curious and checked to find that my pc and e2000 router are connected via a straight-through cable even though it's supposed to be that a router and pc share the same pin layout and should be connected via crossover cable. It's the same story with my xbox and ps3 (also wired directly to the router via straight-throughs).

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - XBox Can See Network But Will Not Connect To It

Nov 29, 2011

Yesterday i was playing online on my Xbox 360, and was disconnected from the internet. I came downstairs to reset router/modem, once doing so i went into the router settings for my Linksys WRT54G. My modem by default uses the 192.168.1.1, so my router was 192.168.2.1... So i powercycle, log into router settings through 192.168.2.1 and start setting up my port forwarding for the xbox ports. Saved Settings, and the page would not load to say "Settings Saved". Closed the window and now my pc says no internet connection. I had to create a VPN broadband connection to even use the internet on my pc. I can no longer log into 192.168.2.1 for my router, nor can i access 192.168.1.1 to even get into my modem settings.. I'm using windows 7, and the automatic troubleshooting guide tells me to powercycle my modem. My xbox can still see my wireless network "linksys" but will not connect to it, even with the VPN connection i am still hooked though my router and modem.. Im afraid that my router just out of nowhere "died"..

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GS To Connect Xbox Live Using Home Network

Nov 29, 2007

I have a xbox 360 that I want to connect to xbox live with, using my home network. Every time I try to connect to xbox live the only part that fails is the connecting to xbox live part. This is how my network is set up. I have Cox Cable as my ISP, a Linksys WCG200 gateway(v2), and WRT54GS(v7). The cable wire is connected to the WCG200 gateway, then an Ethernet cable connects the gateway to the WRT54GS router, and finally an Ethernet cable connects the router to my xbox 360. I have contacted Cox, Linksys, and Microsoft about the situation and they all say the problem is the version of the router. Someone told me that I may just need to change the firmware, but I don't know how to do that.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT610N 5ghz Xbox 360 Wireless N Adapter Won't Connect

Aug 12, 2011

WRT610v2 running latest firmware.
xbox 360 sees both the 2.4 network (ssid = network1) and the 5.0 network (ssid network2) when it does its scan.

Initially, xbox showed network strength for 2.4 network at 3 out of 4 bars and 5.0 network at 1 out of 4 bars. Connects to 2.4 network just fine, Won't pull an ip address and reports "Not connected" when I select the 5.0 network.

I tweaked the wireless settings per some suggestions I found in this forum and now it shows the 5.0 network at 4 out of 4 bars signal strength. Also turned security on and off and xbox 360 reported the changes in security on the 5.0 network. So the xbox 360 is definitely seening the 5.0 network. and can tell if it is running WPA2 or not. If it can see the 5.0 network and recognizes what security and network type (infrastructure) is set, would would stop it from connecting to the WRT610n router and getting an IP address? No mac filters or firewalls are set and, again, connects just fine and gets an ip address if I select the 2.4 (network1 ssid) instead.

Linksys Wired Router :: BEFSR41 Setting Options Which Can Allow To Connect To Xbox

May 8, 2011

I have been having some issues connecting my PC to my XBox360 using the wired approach, it seems to be massively temperamental to a point i decided to not connect the XBox via my router and instead put it straight into my spare network port on my PC. The basic jist of mynetwork confirguration is something like this: Internet cable > Virgin Media 256 Modem > Linksys BEFSR41 Router > PC. I had no issues with this setup, but as soon as i wanted to add my XBox into the mix, things got tricky. I plugged the network cable from my Xbox originally into one of the ports on my router and then went through the settings on both my Xbox and router. Again, i had absolutely no confidence in doing this myself since i don't mess with it, but after reading guides i finally got it sorted. Well, partly sorted. I was able to connect to my Xbox Live, however i was unable to connect to my Xbox to my PC (To stream files onto the Xbox). This was what i wanted to do, i didn't really want to use the Live anyway. So i went off to work again. In the end nothing was working, so i opted to connect my Xbox directly into my PC - So it was no longer connected through my router. I could SEE my PC on my Xbox, but i was unable to connect to it to stream anything. I then opted to disconnect my router (For no other reason than to rule it out) - Sure enough, the very second i disconnected the router, i was able to instantly connect to my PC and was streaming straight away. Once i was streaming, i was able to reconnect my router and that was that. But if i turned off my Xbox i would need to also turn off my router the next time i wanted to stream. How can i fix this so i don't have to continually turn off my router, is there a setting somewhere in the options on my router which can allow me to connect to my Xbox? Cisco Routers :: WRVS4400n & WPA2 Not Working On Xbox?

Jul 23, 2011

So got an Xbox 360 slim and if I try to connect to route with WPA2 if fails. If I change to WPA or set up a second SSID with WPA it connects and works fine.If I connect Xbox to another router with WPA2 it works fine.Same results picking AES or TKIP for security type. The xbox is used in a break room and really don't like the fact that I need to have another ssid and it be less secure, esp as WPA2 has been out long enough this shouldn't be an issue. I test 4 other routers and WPA2 and xbox all work fine but not this one but this is the one I have to use due to feature needs.

XBox 360 - Wireless To Wired Router Connect Network Not Internet?

Dec 12, 2012

I'm having trouble connecting my 360 to the wireless router to gain Internet access.I use my phone's Wi-Fi to gain internet access with NO issues. My current setup: NetGear Wireless router is connected to my D-Link wired router, and I can access the internet no problem. (10 MBPS down, 5MBPS up)When I try to connect the 360 to the Netgear Wireless router, it connects to the Network, but Internet test it reads "DNS error - The router or modem may mot be automatically providing DNS settings. Try a manual DNS setting instead."(Next suggestion) "DNS Error - If you have a PC that can successfully browse the web, check it's network properties to find the DNS address it uses..."Now, I have XBMC running on my computer, and the 360 can access the network so it shows up under Video Apps so I can see a file list to stream movies. When I try to run a movie, it says I must download an update - so I can't watch the movies at all.I juso set it up so I can access the Network AND Internet.Again, Netgear wireless router (which 360 connects to) connected to D-Link wired router.
