I am looking to get a wireless card to share my wired desktop connection for my tablet, laptop and phone and xbox 360 slim. A wireless router would seem the obvious solution but the accommodation I have at uni charges £15.00 just to allow a router to be used.
View 1 RepliesMy friend has had constant issues with his wireless network using his dated Linksys router. So he finally decided to upgrade to the Netgear N750. It's a dual band router that simultaneously broadcasts 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. He setup the 2.4 band for the laptops and mobile devices to access, and the 5 band just for gaming on his xbox 360 Slim. He immediately ran into a problem. The 360 slim's built-in wireless card only picks up 2.4 GHz frequencies. To remedy this, he purchased Microsoft's xbox 360 wireless-N adapter as it can pick up 5 GHz frequencies. However, there was no change after plugging the adapter into the 360 slim. His HP laptop can see the 5 GHz network just fine, so we know it's being broadcast. Could it be the xbox is out of range of the 5 GHz band? Is the adapter not functioning properly with the 360 slim?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs a temp work around I have two SSID now, one for everything else running WPA2 and one for xbox running WPA. The xbox seems to not like the router on WPA2 and though this would make one think, oh its your xbox, thats not always the case with devices. Some just may happen to want to use a feature the device doesn't support correctly and other devices are able to work around it while ones not so I cant for sure blame on xbox.

Everything was working perfectly until I got the dreaded Red Rings Of Death the other day. I replaced the Xbox with a new Slim version with built in N capable network adapter.
After more than 10 hours of trying a variety of "fixes" I found from MS and in this forum, I am still at square 1.

I tried assigning an IP manually from the Xbox. But, no matter what I do, the router will not accept it. It is especially frustrating that the Xbox is visible to the unit. It simply will not assign an IP to it under any circumstance.
If you read the sales hype promoting the Dir-655, you will see a lot of nonsense about it being great for gaming. Given that, you'd think a simple solution would have been found and posted for this issue by now. Surely, end users shouldn't be trying 100 different possible "fixes", none of which work, at this late stage of the firmware upgrades. If I sound a tad fed up, it's because I am. After the expense of the new Xbox, it appears I now have to junk my router too.
Here is the status screen taken when it was in mixed mode. Changing it to 'G Only' didn't make any difference:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to connect my Xbox 360 to a VPN with internet sharing, but whenever I click "allow internet sharing" on the VPN I get errors like error 800 or error 714 that say things like "couldn't esablish vpn connection" or something like "security settings not compatible." I've also tried remaking the VPN and turning off the firewalls but nothing works. Also, I've heard that I can use a bridge connection instead, but don't I need a wireless connection for that? The problem is this that both wireless computers are running internet well while the directly connected computer shows internet connection but no data flow happens. I did the firmware update on the router, E4200, about 2 weeks ago so my son could use his xbox when he got home after 4 months of being away. Everything seemed to work OK as far as I could tell....but when he went to sign into xbox live and watch Netflix, it will load to 98% and stop. A friend of his came over with the new Slim xbox 360 with built in wireless and it will connect fine on its own, if we hook up one of the 610N's to it, it will load to 98% on Netflix and stop again with error code R8152. Both of my older xbox's will hook up and play on xbox live, just not work with Netflix.I also noticed, it shows the WET610N as a hard wire on xbox and will not search for any wireless networks, I have 2. The newer Slim xbox360 will search out both networks on its own if you allow it to use its internal wireless. This only happened since the firmware update.

Each of the XBox's work fine playing Modern Warfare 3, when only one is playing, but if both of us are playing, the wired connection works great, while the wireless connection is really slow and laggy. Again, the wireless XBox runs fine as long as the wired XBox isn't also playing MW3.

I've been analyzing by making sure that all the to end, there would be no firewall within source pc(s) and destination pc(s) and also the ACL inside Nexus. Been dying here to find solution for this, due to the customer is using it for file and printer sharing service.
After reading posts in this forum and others, and reviewing MSFT tech docs, I'm still not able to establish file sharing between the wired PC and the wireless-connected laptop. Maybe I'm working under some stupid assumptions. I am able to ping each computer by their IP address - I can ping the laptop from the desktop, and vice versa. The desktop shows the Basecomputer under network places, but on the laptop, nothing at all shows up under network places. Laptop missing something?
The details:
a) Connecting to internet via DSL, Qwest ISP, Actiontec PK5000 Advanced Networking Network Router. Advanced Networking router, to me, means that home networking shouldn't require any other hardware. Stupid assumption?
b) Desktop PC is connected to the modem/router via ethernet cable
c) Laptop is connected to the modem/router via wireless, (Dell Wireless WLAN 1350 WLAN Mini PCI Card). Assocation tab of the wireless properties gives the network authentication/data encryption types as Open/WEP.
d) Some settings of the modem, viewed via the browser (192.168.0.x)
- Wireless security type: WPA
- MAC authentication Enabled
- Firewall security level: Off (NAT only)
e) Desktop PC is Windows XP Home Edition, SP 3
f) Laptop is Windows XP Professional Version 2002, SP3
g) Both are running Windows Firewall; File and Printer Sharing is checked for both, under the Exceptions tabl
h) I ran the Network setup wizard for both, using same Workgroup name, called HOME. Desktop is called BASECOMPUTER, and Laptop is called LAPTOP. No errors in the setup. On the desktop PC, under Windows Explorer, Network Places -> Entire Network, I can see a 'Home' network under a Microsoft Windows Network icon, with the Basecomputer listed. However, LAPTOP is not listed. This is after a couple of restarts.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been having some issues connecting my PC to my XBox360 using the wired approach, it seems to be massively temperamental to a point i decided to not connect the XBox via my router and instead put it straight into my spare network port on my PC. The basic jist of mynetwork confirguration is something like this: Internet cable > Virgin Media 256 Modem > Linksys BEFSR41 Router > PC. I had no issues with this setup, but as soon as i wanted to add my XBox into the mix, things got tricky. I plugged the network cable from my Xbox originally into one of the ports on my router and then went through the settings on both my Xbox and router. Again, i had absolutely no confidence in doing this myself since i don't mess with it, but after reading guides i finally got it sorted. Well, partly sorted. I was able to connect to my Xbox Live, however i was unable to connect to my Xbox to my PC (To stream files onto the Xbox). This was what i wanted to do, i didn't really want to use the Live anyway. So i went off to work again. In the end nothing was working, so i opted to connect my Xbox directly into my PC - So it was no longer connected through my router. I could SEE my PC on my Xbox, but i was unable to connect to it to stream anything. I then opted to disconnect my router (For no other reason than to rule it out) - Sure enough, the very second i disconnected the router, i was able to instantly connect to my PC and was streaming straight away. Once i was streaming, i was able to reconnect my router and that was that. But if i turned off my Xbox i would need to also turn off my router the next time i wanted to stream. How can i fix this so i don't have to continually turn off my router, is there a setting somewhere in the options on my router which can allow me to connect to my Xbox? My room is about 25-30 feet away from my router and I've been getting a low wifi connection in the last month. I get an average connection on my laptop and a very low connection on my Xbox, both of which are in my room. My question is, what could I do to increase the reception in my room? Could I do anything to my router? Is it overheating(I don't think it is)?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe problem: running a standard single band 2.4gz BT homehub. When using my xbox and wireless headset (razer chimeara) the xbox loses connection. When i tuen the headset off i no longer lose connection. This suggests to me that the headset is simply emitting on the same frequency and bullying the connection, thus the xbox disconnects I have purchased the wireless N adapter to allow the xbox to run on the 2.4 or 5ghz band. I am now looking for a duel band router to allow my xbox to connect to the 5gz band and hopefully this will rectify my interference issue with the headset. I have been lookijg at the e4200 as this supports seperate ssid for 2.4 and 5ghz band, so the xbox can run on the 5ghz and the intererence from the 2.4ghz headset should subside - do you think this would work? Also, with the single ssid duel band routers, where 2.4/5gjz share the same ssid - how would my wireless N devices know to run on the 5ghz and not the 2.4?
