The router will serve as an access point for 10 wireless station, 6 of them will run over Terminal server, the router will also serve 20 computer for the internet, so I want to Link aggregate the four LAN port to my swtich, I know how to do it on my Dell Powerconnect, but I want to know if the WRVS4400N will support it, there will be a lot of traffic going through the router so linking the 4 port in LAG mode to my Powerconnect swicth will speed up the communication

I think it was three or so years ago that I first went shopping for a top-notch gigabit wireless router/switch for home. I wanted VPN tunneling or at least pass-through, gigabit switching on the 4 ports, wireless n (preferably dual band) and the works. I wanted it to be fast (using a high speed business- class connection at home serving content back to my office at work) and I wanted it to be reliable.
So, I got what seemed to be the cream of the crop at the time, a Linksys WRVS4400N. If you know anything about this model, you know what a disaster it turned out to be - garbage firmware, constant reboots, terrible support, none of the features worked.
I fiddled with it for over a year, including one warranty replacement, before giving up, throwing it in the trash (literally) and thinking, maybe I'll try a "gamer" unit... so I got a Dlink 4500 with the crappy OLED display. It was faster. Most of the advertised features work. But, it wasn't reliable - lots of software bugs, each new firmware would break something new, terrible support, and almost daily power cycling because it would freeze.
That's because the Netgear WNDR3700 had shown up and was going to be the cat's meow. It was fast, seemed to run cool versus the previous two, had a reasonably fast UI and was bonafide dual band. Looked great. But as before... I made the mistake of putting it on autopilot with firmware updates, and the factory firmware was replaced by a series of increasingly unstable builds. Now, several of the features I bought it for don't work, the 5GHz band is dying, support is terrible, recent FW seems to have broken VPN passthrough and yet again I go online and see a five star router now turning into a 2.5 star clunker.
Are gigabit consumer routers uniformly junk? They all launch with great expectations, then fall flat on their face within 12 months, their fall from grace bracketed by atrocious support on one side and terrible firmware developers on the other. I've tried three top models from three of the largest manufacturers over the last four years and have had the same experience each time. Meanwhile, I go back to my $40 WRT54G and it just works.
My question: if I'm looking for something fast, reliable and not prone to getting in my way, do I need to simply call it a day and go up a few rungs on the ladder? Maybe a Sonicwall TZ2xx unit? (I've installed these in field offices for years, they work great.) Or a used Cisco Aironet plus a switch? Photo printers occasionally aside, I've never had so many problems with "premium" consumer electronics products as I do with gigabit wireless routers....

I would like to connect to the built in accounts on the wrvs4400n from a mac VPN client. I am new VPN and have not found much information on how to establish this connection. Since Linksys seems determined to rely on Quickvpn, and provides no information on what it is actually doing under the hood I can not figure out how to configure any of the VPN clients available, or the built in VPN tools, for OS X (10.4.8). The only information I have been able to find seems to relate to setting up VPN Tunnels, or running a server behind the wrvs4400n and using one of the VPN passthrough options. I would like to connect directly to the built in accounts, how to set this up on a mac?

I would like to automatically check if the VPN is up or down, simple enough, and respond by bumping it, disconnecting and connecting, as needs be (not so simple I think). This through a C# program using HttpWebRequest and HttpWebResponse. It's simple enough to login to the VPN page using known credentials. Done deal. And also very easy to check a couple of known patterns in the VPN table. When I determine I need to bump the VPN, how do we simulate the form submission and/or call to the JavaScript programmatically? we're using a Linksys WRVS4400N router, firmware version V1.1.13.

I cant get the WRVS4400N to connect to my cable modem. The WAN link light isnt even lighting up. Im wondering if this unit is bad out of the box. Is there a setting im missing to get them to talk to one another. This is no mention in any of the manuals.
Connections: - The "Internet" port on the WRVS4400N to the "Network" port on my cable modem (No link light)
Here is what i have verified at this point: - My old router connects instantly to the modem when plugged in (Same cable) - When i plug my laptop into the WAN port on the WRVS4400N i get a link light. When i plug the modem into the WAN port...nothing.

I get a "IP address conflict" message on my wireless network. Using a WRVS4400n wireless router with the latest firmware that is set to PPoE. Motorola 336 dsl modem is set to bridge mode. My network has 2 computers attached: hardwire desktop and wireless connection to laptop. When I contacted ATT support, they said the problem is in the wireless modem. Are there some settings in the WRVS4400n that must be set to insure that each computer gets a different IP address?

I've been keeping an eye on my IPS report tab lately and have been watching a large number of ICMP_SMURF and DOS attacks originating from chinese ip address's. I know I can probably block the offending ip's through the ip based acl tab in the firewall settings, but I'm kind of a newbie how I can block certain ip's from touching my router?

I have a WRVS4400N setup as a main router for one of our bays. For wired connections it is working with no problems. When I first installed it it ran fine for wireless as well. I was trying to get WDS to work and at some point the wireless stopped working. My laptop can no longer connect to it and often cannot see it when doing a scan for networks. I have already checked that it isn't a problem with the laptop, that there are not other networks causing interferance, and even tried resetting to default configs.

I cannot connect via VPN PPTP (normal setup in windows xp), I have managed to connect over VPN direct connected to internet, through the router (WRVS4400n) if I turn off the firewall. But I cannot connect with the firewall enabled,One more thing, the device is on and I have enabled the passthrough (and 'Multicast Passthrough' in firewall basic settings) for all available options where one of the options is PPTP.

As a temp work around I have two SSID now, one for everything else running WPA2 and one for xbox running WPA. The xbox seems to not like the router on WPA2 and though this would make one think, oh its your xbox, thats not always the case with devices. Some just may happen to want to use a feature the device doesn't support correctly and other devices are able to work around it while ones not so I cant for sure blame on xbox.

I've been configured my device to forward FTP service to my server, however, I can't access this service outside from my network. I used Single Port Forward and not worked, after, I've used Port Range Forwarding starting in 20 to 21 and not work again.I've sniffed my computer and I've found just 3 outsides packages without response.I've tried with directly IP ADDR and DYNDNS ADDR, but neither one or other worked.

I have a new WRVS4400N configured with a site to site VPN to connect to my office. At the office, we're running a Cisco PIX 515E. I have successfully established an IKE preshared key and the tunnel is listed as Up. I can successfully connect through the VPN tunnel into the office network through the tunnel and all seems good. After some period of time, the tunnel apparently goes into a bad state. Access to the office network is no longer available. When looking at the VPN status screen, the Linksys indicates that the tunnel is up. However, I cannot ping any resources on the office lan. If I disconnect and connect the site to site VPN tunnel, it connects and comes back up successfully. It seems like there is some sort of timeout taking place here. I am running the 1.1.03 firmware.

I have three locations using the linksys wrvs4400n router with IPSec VPNS. They all work fine and point back to a Server2003. I just added a fourth location with the same router but this new router has firmware v2.x, where the others have firmware v1.x. When I connected the new router into the VPN network, it caused the other tunnels to go down. When I take the new router with firmware v2.x offline, everything else seems to work fine. Can the v2.x firmware cause the other VPNS on v1.x firmware to go down and not work properly? Do I need to upgrade the firmware so all 4 linksys wrvs4400n routers are operating the same version number so not to cause the tunnels to disconnect?

I have an old wireless router lying behind me and I want to use that old router as a switch. That old router is a knock-off,no-name router brand called "Gigafast" and the model number is WF19-CAPR. There are also variants to that router name as well. The router that I currently have is a Linksys WRT54G wireless-G router. I'm planning to upgrade the wireless router in favor of Wireless-N in the near future.I want to know how can I use that particular Gigafast router as a switch and I want to link that router up to my WRT54G router. The scenario goes as follows:
Cable internet connection ----> WRT54G router ---> Gigafast router (as a switch)
The IP address for the WRT54G router is 192.168.1.1, while the Gigafast router is 192.168.1.254. I may know by now that I have to disable DHCP on the gigafast router and I have to change an IP address to something that is "not in range" with the WRT54G router, am I right?I want to expand the number of ports, so I can connect with future devices such as a VoIP ATA adapter, a laptop and possibly an entertainment box (i.e. Apple TV or Boxee box)

i bought this router because I wanted a gigabit router for my small business and I figured whats better than a small business router? Well, one think I used pretty heavily on my Linksys WRG54GS was a simple port forward to my XP box for VPN. I know nothing about how to currectly set up VPN in this router. Does this router have a built in VPN server? Also, is there anyway to completely disable everything VPN side on this router and simply forward my port 1723 to my computer again? I am using this in conjunction with my android phone. I downloaded the AnnyConnect software, but yielded zero success. I have a working tun.ko installed on my rooted android phone, but this all is completely too much work for something that worked very well before using simple port forwarding and the built in vpn client on the phone. How can I correctly set up my router for the VPN to use with the AnnyConnect application I have on my cell phone?

Since this router already set up for IPv6 and Dual-Stack traffic, would it be possible to give it the ability to get its IPv6 prefix from the WAN side of the router.
Example:
I have Comcast, and as long as my modem and router support IPv6, with the router also supporting DHCPv6-PD to get the /64 prefix from comcast.
I now have an RV180W so this is not an issue for me, but my father is inheriting the WRVS4400N from me and he is also on Comcast.

Have a 400N wireless router that has been working fine with several wireless devices on a small home network for about a year. Nothing has been changed but suddenly all of the wireless wireless devices dropped offline and none see the network signal in their search to reconnect. All of the indicator lights on the router look good and I have unplugged power and reconnected first the cable modem and then the router but still no signal. Logging into the router seems to show that it is working OK but there is apparently no air signal for the client devices to detect so only the wired devices are showing up. It's as if everything is working except the antenna function. Are there any suggestions short of uninstalling and reinstalling the whole set up and see what happens? I have taken my laptop to a nearby hotspot and confirmed that it is receiving other network signals fine so it has to be something to do with the router itself.
