Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 / How To DMZ Xbox With Cisco Connect
Dec 21, 2011
I got the new E4200 router as I had issues with my old router. I was able to DMZ my console with the old router. But with my new router my xbox IP has changed and I want to know which numbers to use and how to DMZ my Xbox with Cisco Connect.

My network is discoverable, but my machines will not connect (they were connected previously). They can connect to the 2.4gHz network, but not the 5 (I use the 5 for streaming media and gameplay). Windows 7 says it's unable to connect.

The problem: running a standard single band 2.4gz BT homehub. When using my xbox and wireless headset (razer chimeara) the xbox loses connection. When i tuen the headset off i no longer lose connection. This suggests to me that the headset is simply emitting on the same frequency and bullying the connection, thus the xbox disconnects I have purchased the wireless N adapter to allow the xbox to run on the 2.4 or 5ghz band. I am now looking for a duel band router to allow my xbox to connect to the 5gz band and hopefully this will rectify my interference issue with the headset. I have been lookijg at the e4200 as this supports seperate ssid for 2.4 and 5ghz band, so the xbox can run on the 5ghz and the intererence from the 2.4ghz headset should subside - do you think this would work? Also, with the single ssid duel band routers, where 2.4/5gjz share the same ssid - how would my wireless N devices know to run on the 5ghz and not the 2.4?

I have a problem when trying to connect my Xbox to the internet. When I run the Xbox Live conection test it connects to the network just fine, but when trying to connect to the internet it comes up with this message,Your console is not receiving ICMP responses properly.' The internet is working fine on other computers in the house.

I'm using Cisco Connect Cloud to connect to my E4200 router. I wish to open my NAT type as currently its moderate on all games.Where the hell is the area to add the port ranges?? Is it even an option on the new connect cloud? If it is, it doesn't make it very easy to find. Would be allot easier if you had a tab/app for "Gaming/Applications" like you did previously.

Trying to setup port forwarding for an XBox 360. Set fixed IP on XBox using IP outside DHCP range. DHCP range is .50 to .80. Set XBox to .49. Gateway is .1. Mask is 255.255.255.0.Added four port forwarding rules per directions on xbox site and also portforwarding.com for ports 53, 80, 88, 1074 to the static IP Turned off DMZ, Turned off UPnP, Turned off SPI. Windows firewall is on, running XP Pro SP3 and Win 7 Pro on other devices.Making the rules active for the fixed IP shuts off internet access for other devices.Single router (E4200 V2), switch, then remaining devices. Private IP addresses in the 192.168.xxx.xxx range. Rebooted router, same issue. What am I missing?

I've recently started studying for the CCNA exam and one of the first things you learn is the type of cabling required between devices.Basically, I got curious and checked to find that my pc and e2000 router are connected via a straight-through cable even though it's supposed to be that a router and pc share the same pin layout and should be connected via crossover cable. It's the same story with my xbox and ps3 (also wired directly to the router via straight-throughs).

My Xbox 360 will not connect to my Cisco E2000 wireless router. It can find the router, but when the Xbox tests the connection it can’t establish a connection with the router. Ironically when I try to use the guest account it can establish a connection with the router before I run in to trouble.

More often than not, when my son wants to play on Xbox Live, the Xbox won't connect to Xbox Live. It will connect to the network and the internet but not Xbox Live. After running the connection test, the suggestion is to reboot the modem and router. It works after rebooting those two devices. Why does this happen so often?

I just need a a way to connect my xbox 360 to the internet. I considered buying a WET610N and was wondering if it will connect to my E2000? I can't use one of microsoft adaptors because something is wrong with my usb ports. Or if it is possible am I able to connect a WET54G? I'm not looking to play online just get connected wirelessly. Will either one of these bridges connect to the E2000?

It worked fine for my PC's and Xbox, but I had disconnected my router for a while, plugged it back in and my xbox simply cannot receive any connection. I should also note that I use an ethernet cord (I don't use it wirelessly) and it has nothing to do with the ethernet cord (I've tried several). Using network magic, it does confirm that a connection to the game console and the router.I've looked through the forums and all of what I found, are NAT problems/issues or fixing a wireless issue, but not an issue when using an ehternet cord.

Yesterday i was playing online on my Xbox 360, and was disconnected from the internet. I came downstairs to reset router/modem, once doing so i went into the router settings for my Linksys WRT54G. My modem by default uses the 192.168.1.1, so my router was 192.168.2.1... So i powercycle, log into router settings through 192.168.2.1 and start setting up my port forwarding for the xbox ports. Saved Settings, and the page would not load to say "Settings Saved". Closed the window and now my pc says no internet connection. I had to create a VPN broadband connection to even use the internet on my pc. I can no longer log into 192.168.2.1 for my router, nor can i access 192.168.1.1 to even get into my modem settings.. I'm using windows 7, and the automatic troubleshooting guide tells me to powercycle my modem. My xbox can still see my wireless network "linksys" but will not connect to it, even with the VPN connection i am still hooked though my router and modem.. Im afraid that my router just out of nowhere "died"..

As a temp work around I have two SSID now, one for everything else running WPA2 and one for xbox running WPA. The xbox seems to not like the router on WPA2 and though this would make one think, oh its your xbox, thats not always the case with devices. Some just may happen to want to use a feature the device doesn't support correctly and other devices are able to work around it while ones not so I cant for sure blame on xbox.

I have a xbox 360 that I want to connect to xbox live with, using my home network. Every time I try to connect to xbox live the only part that fails is the connecting to xbox live part. This is how my network is set up. I have Cox Cable as my ISP, a Linksys WCG200 gateway(v2), and WRT54GS(v7). The cable wire is connected to the WCG200 gateway, then an Ethernet cable connects the gateway to the WRT54GS router, and finally an Ethernet cable connects the router to my xbox 360. I have contacted Cox, Linksys, and Microsoft about the situation and they all say the problem is the version of the router. Someone told me that I may just need to change the firmware, but I don't know how to do that.

WRT610v2 running latest firmware.
xbox 360 sees both the 2.4 network (ssid = network1) and the 5.0 network (ssid network2) when it does its scan.
Initially, xbox showed network strength for 2.4 network at 3 out of 4 bars and 5.0 network at 1 out of 4 bars. Connects to 2.4 network just fine, Won't pull an ip address and reports "Not connected" when I select the 5.0 network.
I tweaked the wireless settings per some suggestions I found in this forum and now it shows the 5.0 network at 4 out of 4 bars signal strength. Also turned security on and off and xbox 360 reported the changes in security on the 5.0 network. So the xbox 360 is definitely seening the 5.0 network. and can tell if it is running WPA2 or not. If it can see the 5.0 network and recognizes what security and network type (infrastructure) is set, would would stop it from connecting to the WRT610n router and getting an IP address? No mac filters or firewalls are set and, again, connects just fine and gets an ip address if I select the 2.4 (network1 ssid) instead.

1. I will be getting a e4200 on Thursday and was wondering if there is any advantage/disadvantage to using the Cisco Connect or just following instructions for manual setup using the web (I did it that way on my last router 6 years ago but was just following a script).?
2. Can I change things using the web after setting up using Cisco Connect or do I have to always use it:?
3. Finally after I set the router up can I just set up other computers in the house as I do now (just plug them in using wire or search for wireless and put in password)?

I just got a new E4200 router and downloaded Cisco Connect from the web site...file name CiscoConnect.E4200.1.4.11160.2.exe. When I try to run it, I find through Task Manager that Setup.exe is using about 35 to 40% CPU, but I'm never even getting to anything on the screen, nor is Task Manager even showing it as a running application. I'm running Windows XP SP3 (latest updates). I tuned off the AVG virus scan. But it still just seems to hang. BTW, I used the web interface to fully configure the router and it works fine so I could get by without Cisco Connect, but it might just be easier to use.

I've had this router for just over a year now so the warranty is out and it just so happened to stop functioning last night. I'm fairly decent in the router world since I am studying for my CCNA, so I have tried just about anything imaginable. I woke up this morning with no connection, checked the modem, then the router. The router was powered on, but the up/downstream lights were not doing a thing. The modem is not the issue (I am hardwired as of now). I have tried both resets, including unplugging the device, and still can't get a response out of it. The logo light will turn straight on (no fad in and out like it's suppose to) and then it does absolutely nothing. I have never encountered this sort of problem on a home router before. I can't login to the router either.

How can I connect to that bridged E4200 because I want to upgrade the Firmware of the Bridged E4200?.

Been having problems connecting an old WGA54G v2 (firmware 1.16, March 29, 2005) to a new E4200 v2 (firmware 2.0.36) via WPA. I can get the two to connect using no encryption or WEP but not WPA. Using WEP is not an option for me,E4200 v2 wireless settings:
1. 5GHz broadcast is off, 2.4 GHz is on.
2. Network Mode - Mixed
3. Security Mode - WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode
4. Channel Width - Auto
5. Channel - Auto
6. Guest Access broadcast is off
WGA54G v2 settings:
1. SSID - same as router
2. Network type - Infrastructure
3. Security - enabled
4. Pre-shared key - same as router
5. Encryption - WPA Pre-shared Key, TKIP (tried AES, but still no connection)
Also, tried different WPA network modes on the router (Mixed, WPA personal, WPA2 personal etc.) to no avail. Switched between mixed, B and G network modes as well on e4200 v2 but still no connection. My guess now is that the WPA on the gaming adapter and the WPA on the router are just not compatible, as completely asinine as that sounds. Thought about updating firmware on the WGA54G v2 but checked in the download section here and the last firmware available is 1.13 (appears older than my 1.16, even though the 1.13 release date listed is a month after my 1.16).

On the 2.4ghz side, I'm set up on the cleanest channel (per inssider) which is 6, channel width is auto (although I've tried it fixed at 20 also), N-only, and security is WPA2 personal. WMM support is enabled. I'm running firmware 1.0.02 The laptops continually stay around 72mpbs, occasionally jumping to numbers in the 100 range... twice I saw it actually hit 144. Inssider shows the max rate as 144, while other N networks in range are as high as 270. I'm sitting right next to the router with 5 bars -- why is the max rate 144? Why won't it run at 300?

So I purchased a Linksys E4200 a couple weeks ago from Best Buy (got the $149 price) and finally got around to setting it up last Thursday. Before I get to my problem, I am happy to say that I have not experienced the "blinking light" syndrome that seems to plauge a number of other owners. In fact, the E4200 is everything I hoped it would be ... except for one problem. I cannot get my sister's Acer Aspire One netbook to connect to it.
It's really strange actually; the netbook picks up the 2.4GHz SSID fine (it's set to mixed mode) and upon selecting it and I input the WPA2-Personal password no problem. Then, it takes forever to finally aquire a network address, like at least 3 full minutes (usually this process takes a few seconds). After that, it tells me it is connected to the network with excellent signal strength. Except, despite it saying it's connected, the Internet does not work at all. If I got into the details of the wireless adapter, it tells me that the router/network failed to give the adapter a network address.

I've switched over from a d-link dir-655 router to the v1 4200. I've been playing around with the 4200 and trying to get it connected to my tv all night long. I have two laptops and two iphones connecting with no issues. I cannot for the life of me get the tv (GT30) to work. It picks up three signals, the 2.4 signal, the 5 signal and the guest signal. The only one that will even connect to the internet is the guest signal. When I run the connection test, however it will not connect to the vierra connect server. I've tried setting it up manually, and anything else that seems obvious. I had no issue with the dlink router at all.

I've noticed that my 192.168.1.1 login console was slow loading up on my E4200 V1. The router functioned just fine(wireless and wired). These past few days I tried to log in to set some DNS settings and I cannot access 192.168.1.1.I have tried via wireless and wired. The router powers on still seems to function but won't allow me to load up the admin console page.To my last resort, I held in the tiny reset button and the router seems to have went back to it's default settings (SSID = Cisco#####) but I cannot connect to it. what I can try to get back into the management window.I was able to manage everything from my laptop about a month ago or so, but now I can't do anything.

I have set up my WAG320N with my E4200v1 successfully. The problem is that my laptops can't connect through WiFi with the E4200 router, but only with the WAG320N (wireless). Since it is the first time I set up a network alone I possible have made mistakes and that's why I can't connect to my router wirelessly. My desktop pc will successfully connect to both of my routers (wired)! My devices won't (DS,Laptops). I have WEP security in my WAG320N (because this is the only one my DS card can connect to) and in my E4200 I want to use WAP2 to connect my 2 laptops. I have made nothing more than setting them up and both of my evices are new.
It is for home use, both of my devices are updated to their latest firmware and the laptops won't identify the problem and will ask to restart the router. (I did many restarts both on my routers, PC, laptops)

I have been having some issues connecting my PC to my XBox360 using the wired approach, it seems to be massively temperamental to a point i decided to not connect the XBox via my router and instead put it straight into my spare network port on my PC. The basic jist of mynetwork confirguration is something like this: Internet cable > Virgin Media 256 Modem > Linksys BEFSR41 Router > PC. I had no issues with this setup, but as soon as i wanted to add my XBox into the mix, things got tricky. I plugged the network cable from my Xbox originally into one of the ports on my router and then went through the settings on both my Xbox and router. Again, i had absolutely no confidence in doing this myself since i don't mess with it, but after reading guides i finally got it sorted. Well, partly sorted. I was able to connect to my Xbox Live, however i was unable to connect to my Xbox to my PC (To stream files onto the Xbox). This was what i wanted to do, i didn't really want to use the Live anyway. So i went off to work again. In the end nothing was working, so i opted to connect my Xbox directly into my PC - So it was no longer connected through my router. I could SEE my PC on my Xbox, but i was unable to connect to it to stream anything. I then opted to disconnect my router (For no other reason than to rule it out) - Sure enough, the very second i disconnected the router, i was able to instantly connect to my PC and was streaming straight away. Once i was streaming, i was able to reconnect my router and that was that. But if i turned off my Xbox i would need to also turn off my router the next time i wanted to stream. How can i fix this so i don't have to continually turn off my router, is there a setting somewhere in the options on my router which can allow me to connect to my Xbox? Windows 7 Xbox 360 Linksys BEFSR41 - 2.00.02 Firmware
