I removed my computer from a domain to a workgroup,I then rebooted the pc and now it si asking me for a username and password.I can not access important information on the local drive.
View 1 RepliesI have an older PC using cable internet to connect. It works fine. There is no router, no other PCs, no network.I built a new PC. I installed WinXP Pro SP2 from a USB drive. I also installed the latest version of the mobo drivers including those for the Realtek NIC. When I swap the cat5 cable from that goes between the cable modem and my old PC to the new PC, the new PC does not connect to the internet. After a reboot the IP address is a 169.254.x.y address. Here's what I have tried so far to fix the problem.

We have domain and workgroup, Actually first its already joined the domain, but I want to map the sharedrive inside the workgroup but I cannot map. Then I change to join workgroup. Upon bootup, it asks for the user/password.Yesterday we tried to connect it to a little home network by changing the domain to a workgroup with a different name (network name that i used at home) as well. Now when it boots up, asks for a user/password, but now it does not recognize my user name and password.I can log in as an administrator to the Workgroup with the new name. but i cannot access the old Domain with its user and passwords. I tried to change back to the old name and to domain, but when doing that i get and error messsage which says: The following error occurred validating the name "xxxxxxx" (network name that I use at home) this condition may be caused by a DNS lookup problem. so I'm not sure if a should run the clear DNS cache. and if in doing that I'll be able to restored it back to the stage that i was before I made the changes.

One of our users changed his domain to a workgroup (made us rethink who has admin access on all our PC's) thinking that it would somehow fix the problem he was having with not being able to print anything to a network printer. Well, this promptly called for a restart and upon restarting would not allow him to log back into the user account.
This all makes sense to me as to why it will not let him log-in using credentials that he is no longer a part of due to security restrictions. But my question is how do i recover the account? In other words, how do I go about rejoining that user account to the domain that everyone is located on.
If all new user accounts are defaulted to join the domain, how come its not just as easy to move a user from a workgroup back to that domain?
Also, the machine is running Windows XP. It's critical that I get the old user account set back up because it was used for Outlook e-mail as well as several important documents/spreadsheets. I know that none of these files are lost as I can still navigate to them through the Local Disk. But really I would like to get the old user account working instead of having to copy/paste all the old content to a new user account in order to hopefully retain all old settings and configurations. tl;dr A user on our domain moved his user account to a workgroup and now is unable to login or access his user account. How do I move the user account back to the domain?
I have a former corporate PC that logged into a domain server. Under <Control Panel><System> I changed from Domain to Workgroup. I now can't log on to any account including the administrator.I don't have the recovery disk. MS suggests a parallel installation of XP to provide access to the files on the disk. I can do that with any Linux CD. I don't have any data I want to recover. That was all stripped off before I got the PC. I do want to keep all the applications. If I reinstall XP, I will loose all the applications. I now know I can only logon to the administrator account if the PC is connected to the domain server. If I can restore the domain name, I can log on to the PC again.Where is the domain / group info kept and in what format?Is there a way of using a Linux CD to manually edit the XP files to restore / add a domain??

Custom PC with Win7 Pro, i7 3770, 12GB DDR3 RAM
What I would like to do is setup sbs 2011 as the domain controller and have the custom pc on that domain.Comcast business cable modem/router is set for defaults, handing out dhcp.
Both Server and custom pc are hooked into the switch which is hooked into the comcast router.SBS 2011 I believe I set it up with the default settings. Updated it so all the patches are on it. It sees the comcast router and connects to the internet no problem.
Custom PC is sees the comcast router no problem and gets its ip address from there like normal.When trying to join the domain on the sbs computer the custom computer cannot find it even though I can ping the server.

I downloaded a WinXP driver for Dell Vostro 1015 from dell web site but it is not working.
When I try to install this driver, an error message apears. The message tells that ""QMI device is missing"".
I have an HP-MINI with an atom processor 1.6ghz and dual core according to device manager. It has 1 gb ram and no other issues. I can boot into Ubuntu and have everything work fine. It goes on line with no prodding on WAP after I enter the password as usual.
When I attempt to do this in winXP on the same exact computer, it comes up with the no connectivity issue. I have run ipconfig and here is the result: (btw I am sending this info from another computer)

After I ran this see that Netbios over TcpIp was disabled. I am sure it is supposed to run in some kind of automatic mode or something as I recall.
The loopback of the ASR1002 is 2.2.2.2. When I use a browser to access it, I got the authentication dialog box asking for username/password. I input the information and submit. But authentication box comes back again and ask for the username/password.
The username/password is test okay. But somehow, the web GUI just does not use it.
I'm running a VB Script from the logon script to add printers when users log on.The Colour printer is added no problem but the black and white printer was working but now wont.The print share names are correct and the server name is correct.

I work in a company that has all our computers on a domain. no one of End Users is local admin. I always use remote desktop to access End Users computers,when I log in with my user name its OK but when I try to log in with End-User user name I got this message.The local policy of this system does not permit you to logon interactively.I do alot of searches and they said I have to add user name to remote access desktop group, which is difficult because I cannot add all users to the remote desktop group.when the user become a local admin to his machine , then I can access his computer remotely with his user name, and of course I cannot make all users local admins because I have to break the local admin group policy.

A customer of my have a ASA5510 and want to use de Cisco VPN Client with the opties start before logon but I can find that option in the client. The computer is running on Windows 7. Does the option is still there or on with operating systems it is supported?

i have two servers that is Primary domain Controller and File Server. Whenever he logs ons or logs off from internet I GET DISCONNECTED! Its very frustrating. At first I kept wondering why I would get frequent Disconnects, until I matched exactly the times he would log on or log off. I've never seen this type of problem before in my previous router?
