When attempting to log in to a computer (running Windows 7 Professional) here at the office using the network administrator account, I get the error message: "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed." I wasn't here when this laptop was set up, and so I don't know if any local user accounts were made or what their passwords would be if they were there, so I can't think of any way to log in to the machine and disconnect/reconnect to the domain which is really my only idea on how to fix it. Finding out what would cause this to suddenly start happening would also be nice, but mostly I just need to figure out how to get reconnected so I can get this back up and running.

At my small business (30 employees) we currently don't have a hardware firewall. Should I have one? If so what do you recommend? We are all connected to a Windows Server 2003 domain in one office building.

Windows Server 2003, XP and W7 desktops. I have a growing number of user folders that are seemingly in the wrong place. When I am looking at the directories locally on the server, there are some document folders that are directly in the Users folder, rather than existing as subfolders within a user's folder. In fact, the user's folder is not present at all. So rather than Joe Smith's folder structure being 'Users/jsmith/', there are a series of folders under 'Users' that are named 'Documents'. As I click on each one though, I see in the address bar 'Users/jsmith' etc. In the tree, there is no folder named jsmith, but in the address bar there is. And in the address bar, there is no folder named 'Documents'.This seems to be limited to newer users and older users who have Windows 7 PCs, but I don't know for sure if that's the source of the change.

We had a power outage that kicked off our server and our network switch (2008R2, Cisco2960), before we could get it back up, a user was able to log into his laptop.
The user used the domain login - not the local machine account - he obviously wasn't able to access any shared resources, but how did he log in with a domain account, when the server and switch were both off?

The network seems to be working alright but we did have trouble with the internet on client machines being slow and timing out all the time. After a lot of trouble shooting I ended up changing the forwarders to OpenDNS instead of the ISP DNS and everything thing seems to be working now.

i want to make my minecraft and gmod servers permanent so i got stupid and built a low powered server out of an old athlon media pc i had laying around. anyways my current setup i have going is my main router is in the basement and i have a dd-wrt d-link repeater in my room. ok so i gave the repeater a static ip of 192.168.1.56, and gave my server a static ip of 192.168.69.25 (i made the ip of the repeater 192.168.69.1) i forwarded all the necessary ports to the static ip of the repeater then to the static ip of the server. but my servers wont work. on minecraft it says "end of stream" but if i look at the active server log on the server it says "myipaddress has lost connection" and on gmod i just cant connect or see my server at all.

we have created some administration accounts which should only have the possibility to work on the user database. the useradmin role is to limited to create a user and set a fixed password only, but not able to enable the users authentication against a predefined external identity store. Other roles which makes this possible are far to powerful for a second level adminstrator. The adminstrator should have the possibility the create an user and set the password check against an external database. This is not possible with the predefine role "UserAdmin". Other roles do have to many rights for these users.

We have a computer running Windows 2000 Pro that used to connect to a domain at work. Upon bootup, it asks for the user/password.Yesterday we tried to connect it to a little home network by changing the domain to a workgroup with a different name (network name that i used at home) as well. Now when it boots up, asks for a user/password, but now it does not recognize my user name and password.I can log in as an administrator to the Workgroup with the new name. but i cannot access the old Domain with its user and passwords. I tried to change back to the old name and to domain, but when doing that i get and error messsage which says: The following error occurred validating the name "xxxxxxx" (network name that I use at home) this condition may be caused by a DNS lookup problem. so I'm not sure if a should run the clear DNS cache. and if in doing that I'll be able to restored it back to the stage that i was before I made the changes.

We have shared network drives on my network whose folder structure must not change. We have users who must have full access to the contents of these folders and be able to read/modify/erase and create new files inside these folders. However, the structure of the folders must not change so that other users/programs can locate files within these folders.
Some users sometimes "aggressively click" and drag and drop folders into different locations and can't remember where they dropped them. This makes them inaccessible for other users. We have a lot of folders so I implemented FileWatcher Simple program to monitor these folders and if there is a change in folder structure I get an email with an attached log. The log tells me which folders got created/deleted/renamed and I am able to restore the folder structure if need; but I cannot see who caused these changes.
1. Is there a way for me to see which user in my domain modified the folders?
2. Is there a way to disable users from drag and dropping, deleting, renaming folders yet still maintain full access to the files within these folders?

Also I have created a rule in the 'Access polices' to allow the user group. From the cross domain, I use abc@xxx.xyz as a user id, but I get this error message 13036 Selected Shell Profile is DenyAccess.

We currently have about 8 WLC 4400 series controllers deployed around the company, one of these controllers is acting as an Achor controller for GUEST wifi access for visitors to the company, as a result of this we have many users with "LobbyAdmin" access to setup users.
We have recently introduced a Cisco WCS to manage these devices but its not fully implemented/active to see all WLC's.I need to be able to report on the LobbyAdmin users to see who is setting up accounts and for who etc. Currently access to the WLC/WCS is done via Local admin accounts. All accounts for the LobbyAdmin people are setup on our anchor controller.
I have added the anchor controller for this to the WCS system but when looking in Administration/AAA/Groups the LobbyAdmin groups shows No Members. Is there a way that i can import the Lobby Admin names from the anchor WLC to the WCS so i can do reports/audit checks on these users?

I started getting into IT (as a job) a little less than a year ago, though I've been working with computers for close to 20. So networking was never something I was into while working on computers at home. I've been handed a significant position at work and I am learning a lot as I go. I want to know how to grant permissions for a domain user to a directory without adding the user to all of the sub-directories and directories. The only way I've figure thus far is to grant permissions to said folder, then inside remove the "inherit permissions..." but then I have to manually remove the permissions to every other sub-folder.I want to add a single path to a folder by adding single permissions to each folder until the directory in question is reached.

I have manually configured the E2000 and set the admin password. When I was trying to log back in, I could not. I reset and reconfigured and set the password again. I still could not log in using "admin" and the password I set up. I thought I was losing my mind. Just on a hunch, I used the SSID name instead of "admin", then entered the password that worked. I am able to login, but I need the username to be admin, not the SSID. Has anyine else had this issue? Any way to change the administrator name back to admin??

I`ll get straight to the point. I have at work a domain of computers. on one of the computers (I have admin rights) I want to share a folder that can be accessed by other computers that are not in the domain. By default accessing that share requires a user/pass. My question is: can I configure something on the computer (running windows 2008 server) to the shared folder so that other computers that are not from the domain will gain access to without user/pass requirement (like a normal share)?

I have a remote access VPN profile configured on an ASA 5540. This profile is almost identical to the same profiles configured on other ASA 5540. The profile is linked to Active Directory for authentication. For some reason, users are not being prompted for the domain name field when connecting to the firewall, on the other firewalls they get prompted for all three (user/pass/domain).
All the firewalls are running 8.0(4) 32. And the following is the configuration of the firewall that I am experiencing issues with:
ip local pool TESTVPN 10.244.124.1-10.244.127.254 mask 255.255.252.0
group-policy TESTCERT internal
group-policy TESTCERT attributes

i've been using a VPN to connect to my home network from elsewhere for a few months. It's set up as follows:
PPTP
Maximum Strength Encryption
EAP-MSCHAP-v2 Authentication
Now I find out that MSCHAPv2 authentication has been broken and is no longer considered secure (even by Microsoft), so I want to change the protocol I'm using to make it secure.
However, I've spent 3 hours now researching this and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to use a better protocol on my Windows Server 2012 home server. I've tried setting up PEAP authentication (still PPTP) a la Microsoft's recommendation document, but it requires a certificate. I've created a self-signed certificate but it seems I can't issue certificates (via this method) without being a member of a domain, so I'm stuck. I can't even get started with L2TP since I can't find the option for it.
My question is this: Is there a way to setup a secure VPN server using Windows Server 2012 without a domain? If so, how do I do this?

I can't remote to server 2003. On the server, the Enable Remote Desktop is gray out with a check mark. On the remote assistance it is not gray out with a check mark. when Remote desktop connection from a workstation here is the message error.Remote desktop can't connect to the remote for one of these reason.
1)Remote access to the server is no enabled
2)The remote computer is turned off
2)The remote computer is not available on the network.
Make sure the remote computer is turned on and connected to the server, and that remote access is enabled.
