If i want to setup a router and switch in my small business... 11 computers. Can i run 2 switches into one router or is it better to run one larger switch into one router. Second is when I set it up do I need to assign addresses to each computer or do I just need to plug them in and setup the network with windows network wizard. I will have a shared drive on one of the computers or possably some network storage.
I have a cisco 3560 switch set up as my edge router. It is working as my external demarc switch and edge router. It is sitting between the ISP's switch and my ASA firewall. It's a very basic configuration with port 1 set up with a fixed ip and switchport turned off which is connected to the ISP switch. VLAN2 is configured with an IP address and 3 ports, two of which go to different firewalls.
I found that I cannot ping a specific address from the inside interface (VLAN2), but I can from the outside interface Gig0/1. I have a few deny commands in an access list, but they don't apply to the network i'm trying to access, and I haven't had any other inaccessible networks otherwise.
Here's my config minus passwords and full IP ranges. There are two ranges, one with xxx and one with xx. The xxx is set as secondary, but is the one we really use.

I am trying to set up a network that has 1 internet connection, requires a local LAN for the business, and another LAN for public wireless access. Here is what I have and details on what we want to do.
We have the main LAN set up and all is working well, internet access, 6 WAP's connecting and all is working like a charm. Internal IP range is 192. 168. 0.0/24.We have all 6 WAPs on the internal network, with 2 SSID's on each WAP and each SSID is assigned to a VLAN. One SSID is internal for staff, the other is for guest access for members. The internal staff wireless access is working fine.
We want the guests to be able to access the internet, but not the internal network, but we need to access them for administration from the internal network.
We created a second VLAN on the switch and added the 6 WAP ports to it as tagged for VLAN2. These 6 ports are also on VLAN1 (default). We have a second VLAN on the router, have it handing out DHCP addresses for the 192.168.25.0/24 range with DNS servers.
Where we are having trouble is with getting the guests wireless access to work. Guests can see the wireless, log onto the access point but that's it. They don't appear to get a 192.168.25.0/24 IP, or any IP actually, and thus cannot do anything.
We have modem router 4-port with IP range 10.0.0.1 - 30 setting.one port goes to a library where we have a 8-port switch STLAB SWHUB-8p serving 2 pc with auto IP setting (internet works fine)and one port goes to another corner of the library to a switch TP-LINK TL-SF1008D V4.1 .4 pc are connected and a printer all are set with manual IP in an active rang of the router 10.0.0.10 - 14 they have to be on manual IP becuse of the ptinter.they cannot connect to the internet but I get the message connected. If I change them to auto IP - they can connect to the internet, the router gives them an IP.
I'm asked to think of a solution to make in an existing LAN connected by switches (connected to each other) to make another network availible.atm we have a network with 192.168.110.0 and we are short on IP adresses because of a large DHCP pool from wireless clients and a growing network with static IP addresses. So basicly what i want to accomplish is an extra network 192.168.111.0 in the existing LAN and all computers have to be able to communicate to each other and all computers have to be able to connect to the internet using gateway 192.168.110.1 (direct or trough route tables). For future growth an extra LAN 192.168.112.0 with not perse internet access for only VOIP, but that is on the side and is not a priority, because I can set up that network on the same switches easy without having them to be able to connect to the computers and servers in the network. (correct me if I am wrong)
What I found out browsing the internet is that a layer 3 switch may provide the solution, but I can't make out of the technical specs if thats going to work when both LAN's computers will be connected on the same switches. Also I found a lot of solutions with setting up a server with 2 NIC's and setting up routes on that server. But since we have a very large amount of network traffic with large graphical files, having 2 nics to route all that trafic doesn't seem like a desirable solution for my purpose.
I have to admit I've never written my own Cisco configuration and I probably know just enough to break things. The last time I configured a Cisco was a few years ago, and the Wachovia people just told me what to type.
I have a Cisco WS-C3548-XL-EN and a Cisco WS-C3524-PWR-XL-EN "Inline Power" with default configurations and I want to setup VLANs. Basically, would this work?
SWITCH 1:Router on port 39, Wifi on Port 47, Uplink to 2nd switch's port 24 on port 48
Code: en conf t interface VLAN10 no ip directed-broadcast no ip route-cache
[code]....
And then I would test that it works, if it does issue #write memory, and it it doesn't powercycle and try again?
this company uses Vyatta firewalls, which are dedicated boxes. So I was sent home with a Dell PowerConnect 5448 (a 48 port switch) with the project of getting a similar setup going with the computers i have at home. I have the switch set up, everything's on VLAN1, management IP is 192.168.2. 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway is 192.18.2.254, and the switch is properly sharing the my internet connection between three computers. That part was easy. So now, one of them is going to be either reformatted and set up with Vyatta, or I'm going to virtualize it. Either way, I need to route all the traffic through that firewall box before it goes to anything else on the switch so I can have a functional firewall.
Looking for support on setting up an ATM managed switch. It is a little older and void of documentation, model being Marconi ASX-200BX, that I can console but am lost from there. Much different than any Cisco switch I've ever seen.0
I am trying to set up a VLAN on my Netgear switch (GS105E). I want to create two separate networks and I want both of them have internet access.
I have configured port 1 and port 5 as vlan1 and port 2 to port 4 as vlan2. I plugged a cable from the router to port 5, and the computer on port 1 has internet access. However, the computers on port 2 to port 4 have no internet access.I had tried to create VLANs with the router but had no luck.
I am migrating an a group of workstations that run a fire system from one software to another. The current workstations run the following info:123.123.123.xxx 255.255.255.0The new workstations run:100.100.100.xxx 255.255.255.0There is a central switch location using a GE-DSG-244 Layer 2+ Managed switch. There are two remote location using GE-DS-82 Managed Switches. The two networks must remain isolated, yet use the same fiber communications. The central switch connects to the two location using MM Fiber. From my research I believe I need to use the 802.1q standard to allow port trunking between the two switches.
We have a Cisco slm248gt-na smart switch in our office that I am trying to configure to support and optimize for VoIP. We have desktops hooked up off the phones in most cases. Are there any config guidelines to optimize the switch so it has proper QOS set and VoIP gets higher priority over data.
The question is: Will a 3750 switch route Jumbo frame sizes (e.g. 9000 MTU)?
We know that we can change the System MTU to 9000, and someone on a previous thread said that we can change the Routing MTU to 9000 as well, although I couldn't figure out how to do that. However, regardless of how we configure the System MTU and Routing MTU, I don't think we're able to adjust the MTU on L3 VLAN interfaces, so if we want to actually "route" between VLANs on the switch, we're limited to 1500 MTU.
Our situation is that we have a customer connecting to our 3750 switch, and this customer wants to use Jumbo frames. The customer connects to our 3750 switch via their own VLAN, with their own L3 VLAN interface configured on the switch. The customer will point their traffic towards the L3 VLAN interface, then we want to route them onto another VLAN, via a different L3 VLAN interface, before forwarding their traffic. Because of the limitations noted above, specificially regarding the routing between these VLANs via L3 interfaces, I do not think we'll be able to support 9000 MTU frames on this 3750 switch. I think the L3 VLAN interfaces will limit us to 1500 MTU, regardless of what we configured via the global System MTU and Routing MTU settings.
I am setting up a new 2960-S switch and none of the recommended username and passwords combinations work. I have tried CIsco Cisco, <blank> cisco and various other permutations.
I have tried to reset the switch to factory defaults and it still doesn't work. The switch is currently connected to a 3560G and has been assigned an IP. If I try to access it from Network assistant it shows as unmanaged and I get prompted for a username and password. The switch is connected to another new 2960-S via a FlowStack module.
I'm trying to set up a 2951 with a 24 port switch module. I want the ports to act similiarly to the ports on an 881 router - where I assign the VLANs on the router and I set the VLANs to the switchport interfaces.I would like to be able to create the VLANs on the router portion of the 2951 and then, enter the switch module and configure the Ports to the VLANs but, how do I logically connect router to the switch? Is it an internal logical interface - meaning how are the VLANs getting from the router to the switch?
I just purchased a new SF-300 managed switch for the purpose of using it on the DMZ, so we can mirror the internet port and monitor traffic for my company. I have set it up from the web interface to miror port 1 to port 2 and that's pretty much it. I decided to test it before putting it in production, by hooking it up to one of my core network switches, connecting a laptop to it and trying to get online. It doesn't even connect to my DHCP server to get an IP address. If I put the laptop back on the same subnet as the switch management IP, I can still connect to the switches web interface. Isn't the basic functionality of a switch to pass traffic?
I should also mention that I'm not a network engineer, so there might just be something I'm missing with regard to a default setting that needs to be switched off?
I'm setting up a Cisco 3750 layer 3 switch with several vlans. I thought enabling routing would route between the vlans, but no such luck. What I want is to share the internet access of vlan 100 with the other vlans/ip-nets.How can I do that?
Why is it that when SNMPv3 user "TestV3-User" was added to my SNMPv3 implementation on my 6506 switch, the group/MD5/Emcryption settings are missing for this user (See "sh snmp user" output)???
router#sh snmp user User name: TestV3-User Engine ID: 80000009030000249706EFC0 storage-type: nonvolatile active access-list: test
I would like to configure Ethernet jumbo frame setting in a C6509E switch with WS-X6548-GE-TX and WS-X6516A-GBIC port modules, and IOS 12.2(33)SXJ1. whether any of these modules can support jumbo ethernet frames up to 9000 per port bases. Also, if none of these modules support port-based jumbo frame MTU then would the switch allow jumbo frames on Ethernet trunks from an access switch (say a C3560)?
setting up an ASA 5505 to be used as a firewall between a BT internet router(BTNet service) and a Cisco 3560 Lan switch. BT have presented me with a cisco 3800 series router with the following details:
Network Address Network Mask BTnet NTE Router LAN Address
There are 2 Gigethernet ports on the back of the router port Ge0/0 is connected to the BT NTE and the status light is flashing green. Int ge0/1 is connected into port int e0/1 of the ASA but i am unable to get any connection.
I currently have my wired cable internet hooked into my wrt310n. I have that hooked into a linksys 10/100 ef3124 switch. From there, I have cat5 run to the back of my house, where the wireless signal is weakest. I've got an E2000 router and would like to hook that in at the back of the house. What settings do I need to make in order to set up a completely new wireless network in the back of the house?
I have a very large house with many people using wireless laptops. i used to have verizon internet and I purchased a wlan 11g mini router from radio lads. After it was set up it worked great. I have just switched to comcast internet (my first mistake) and I can't get the mini router to work.
I'm often on my university WiFi, which is unsecured. I have a new ASUS router that supports a VPN network, so I've created a VPN network and it seems to be working-- I connect to the VPN through the unsecured WiFi and I can see my home computers on my network.I want to tunnel all my internet browsing through the VPN, for security, but when I'm on my VPN, I can't browse the internet. I understand that I can go into advanced settings and set it up so that I'm on the VPN while still browsing on the unsecured wireless (I think that's called split-tunneling), but that seems to defeat the purpose. I think I have to set up port forwarding, or maybe a DNS server...
A friend of a friend has a business with 8 computers (3 lap tops) and then desktops. He uses Verizon. I have no idea about how to set this up correctly but, would like to try.He got 2 Linksys routers and asked if I could get them to work on his network. I said I'd try.
There are NO INSTRUCTIONS -
do they go to the "boss computer" and then? I just don't know and feel too stupid to say I'm not sure. It's probably very easy but, it's been years since I've worked on Networks.
i want to set up my wireless router it is currently set on a static ip but i want to set up in pppoe(username/password) mode i set up once in pppoe but internet is not working?
i have verizon DSL. Their newest router, the westell 7500, and their older one, the westell 327w. I want to setup a home network. I have heard there is a way to have these 2 routers connect wirelessly (one threw the other) so that i can hook up direct tv dvr to the internet w/out running a long cable.
SETUP CD MISSING - NETGEAR WNDR3700v2Have just received excellent condition 'barely-used' WNDR3700v2 router with ac adaptor, but NO setup cd. Am I dead in the water, as Netgear doesn't provide replacement CD's, or is there a workaround using say, an early firmware upgrade? Or other?
I am trying to setup a wireless router in my dorm but I cant seem to find any solid guide on how to do it. Simply plugging it in to the ethernet port provided in my room doesnt do it. It seems I have to configure it, but I dont know where to begin.
I've just bought a TL-WA701ND so that I could connect my TV to internet via this AP using client mode. However, when I tried to configure the AP into client mode by following the user manual and instructions, I failed in the last step where I need to ping the router IP address (192.168.1.1). It returned "Request Timeout". Configuration of my AP is as shown below and I make causing it couldn't ping the router.
LAN configuration on PC: TCP/IvP4, IP address: 192.168.1.150
Setting up a linksys router with dsl Modem.laptop direct to modem works router connected dhcp to laptop Eth. port 1 OK router to modem dhcp does not generate DNS but appears to give IP address. Result: can't connect to internet / diagnosis says cannot resolve ( google.com or yahoo.com etc.)
I have recently purchased a PS3 and can sign into my PSN account but cannot access PSN when i try to play games on multiplayer. My university doesn't allow routers so I was wondering if:
1)Having a router would let my ps3 work properly online?
2)How to set up a router without it being detected.
