I was hoping to be able to save a file on one computer and for it to be accessed from a computer in the next room.The first computer is connected to the internet and when emails are received I would like to save them to a folder in my documents and then be able to go onto the other computer, go to my documents and open the file I just saved from computer one.

I had this problem a few weeks ago but it somehow fixed it self but the problem is back again.

Have tried to change from workgroup to domain that the server is on so to create username and password but error message keeps coming up 'a domain controller for the domain ata.local could not be contacted or if just use ata as domain it does not accept any username or password. Also have tried suggestions in other forums such as simple sharing and creating an account on other pc's with same username and password as server. All of the systems are windows xp and the server is windows standard.

When at #2 and trying to save a file to #1, the save time may be about a minute. When doing the same thing from a computer #3 with windows xp, the save time is a few seconds. Tried safe mode with networking. Same thing. Tried disabling remote differential compression. No change. The three computers are in the same workgroup.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a user that is trying to save an excel speadsheet that is located in a shared folder on a server, the user can open the file and edit ok but when they try to save the file the progress bar pops up but just hangs then a message pops up to saying "file not saved". They are using Windows 7.The user is new and I have just set up their account so thought it might be permission issues but I have logged the user in on two other different machines (1 win7 and 1 WinXP) and they have no problem at all.

I support an OU in a large university domain. Myself and one other user are the only people experiencing this issue in an OU comprised of over 20 machines.
I have a desktop computer connected by ethernet (VISTA) and a Windows7 laptop by wireless. I am trying to share folders have got the share saying no passwords and yet when I click on a folder it asks for user name and password, no passwords have been set to open either computers.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst off, for almost ever my two computers (Laptop/Desktop) linked on the same network/home group have been able to transfer files to each other over without any problem. I must have done something when Norton Expired on my Laptop which is causing the problem now. (Both running windows 7)Both computers show up in the network tabs, as normal. From my desktop I can access my laptop like I always could. I can play movies etc. but I can't make any changes or transfer files. As it says "You need permission to perfrom this action."Now from my Laptop, I can also see my Desktop in the network tabs. but I can not view anything on the computer. When I try to browse through the network tabs, I get [Windows cannot access \network error code 0x8007035].
1. I had it working before so I know they are properly connected.
2. Both computers can see eachother
3. My Desktop can browse my laptops files (but not change anything)
4. My Laptop can NOT browse my desktop as it says the network error code
5. Neither Computer has a firewall on
6. Neither Computer is running antivirus software
7. In the Homegroup sharing tabs, both computers are marked as "allowed" in the media streaming options.

Computer A cannot access its own or others shared network folders through the network icon on the desktop, I get the message "Windows cannot access \Computer-AMy Documents" and if I try to access Computer B it gives me "Windows cannot access \Computer-B". Computer B can access Computer A through the network with no problems. The folders have had the permissions set to Everyone.
We've recently installed Windows Server 2003 at our small office for data storage, and have set up shared folders in the Win Server 2K3 for access from about a dozen Win XP Pro machines.Upon the first access of these shared folders from a Win XP Pro machine, we're required to enter a User Name & Password for the Win Server 2K3 machine:Is there a work-around for this? On wireless i am set for obtain address from router DHCP (linksys E3200). Both are on the same ip range. Both are on Win XP pro. I have Everyone in all share permissions and also in the security tab. Both machines when at work are on the same domain but one is a local user on the domain. Simple file share is not selected.
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently installed an E4200 router to an MacPro following the setup as directed by Cisco Connection (connect Ethernet to router and then computer to router.) The wireless and the hard-wire connectivity works fine with accessing the internet. However, we have lost the ability to connect to other computers on our LAN via the Shared folder connection. This is usually accessed via the Sidebar (see image)
However with the E4200 in the mix, all we see is the router per its "given name" (what it was named on installation). I have tried to follow the advice mentioned in other threads, such as "Can't access network shares with E3000" and nothing worked-- and those threads seemed to apply to Windows and PCs anyway.
We have a LAN of 11 computers, I have shared some the folders on my PC because I had to, But I don't want anyone to be able to copy some of the contents........What should I do?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI am unable to connect to my desktop's shared folders, and get the message "network path not found" when attempting to go into the desktop. The desktop is connected to the router wirelessly, a pace 2wire gateway, and wirelessly on the laptop. I can see it in the list of devices connected to the gateway, as well as the network folder. I am unable to ping my desktop from the laptop, but i can do so the other way around (desktop can ping my laptop). This is despite turning off windows firewall on the desktop. This started happening right when i got the SP2 upgrade for the desktop, it's a vista system.

Suddenly Can't access shared folders but others can . Laptop with Vista. Laptop was gone from our shop for about 2 weeks. Now it cannot see the Shared Folders (except for Public and Printers), and could not re-connect the Mapped Drives. Accesses Internet, can Ping the other PCs(all running Win7). Connect thru Wireless.
Why SUDDENLY, there are no shared folders visible on a Laptop?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI thought that there are more security issues than LAN issues, I have a network with 11 computers of which 1 is SME server and 10 are clients (mainly 256MB DDR1 tech machines withceleron D processors, onboard VGA and sound; there are few 1024MB DDR2, AMD Sempron LE processors). All clients have XPSP3, .NET framework 1.1+2.0, Office 2003, AvastFree 7.0, Mozilla Firefox 7.0 and several utilities not very important. Every client has 2 users (Admin and User) on Local Machine and 1 on DOMAIN (UserDomain). Both User accounts are limited. First, all computers were in same workgroup and not part of DOMAIN. In that time, printers on clients were shared among themselves and worked flawlessly. After joining the clients to the DOMAIN, the work continued without issues. One day, I have changed the name of the SME SERVER computer and the issues have started. Several clients can not connect to those shared printers, even others are using them well. When I want to add shared printer I can not browse the particular computer on which the shared printer is (through ADD PRINTER wizard). I manage to do it writing the full path of the particular computer and there I can choose the printer.
After selecting it, username and password is required to finish the adding. Of course I use the Admin username ad password, and after typing it error message pop up (printer is unavailable or can not connect to it). After this I close all windows, start the adding procedure again, and then I can add the printer normally. The problem continues, because, on those computers on which I have had this complicated way of install, after several days shared printers refuse to print saying Access denied. Then I have to delete the printer again, install it twice and hope to work after that for a weak at least.
The problem is getting bigger, as on one client computer I can not print from browsers (Firefox 7, IE 8) but from Office there is no problem. Of course I have checked other topics about this and use setups-modifications-advices but they did not solve printing problems. I have even reinstalled that computer, but the problem remains.

The issue is that now anyone using the wireless signal can't connect to a shared network folder that they were previously able to connect to using the old router.
I'm not able to log into the old router to see any of its settings. I do have access to the server that has the shared folder - I just don't have any idea what needs to be set in order for the N900 to allow me through to the shared folder - whether it's on the router side or the server side.

I have a small network running in my language academy which is causing me some issues. We have a server running Win XP with two folders, one for the teachers which is password protected and the other for the students which doesn't require a password. Up until two days it has been working well. However now the server keeps disconnecting from the internet quite randomly which stops us from connecting to the shared folders.
I've noticed that a caution icon appears next to the ethernet icon in the task bar when this problems occurs on the server. I have tried to right click and choose the repair option but it tell me that it cannot resolve the ip address. In some cases rebooting the server resolves the issues but in many case it doesn't.
There are currently four computers in the house, all running Windows 7. Two of them are wired using homeplugs (different brands) and two of them are wireless.

I have a laptop I use at home and a mini laptop that I travel with. I record TV shows with the laptop and move them to the mini to watch them on the road.the programs are about 3 gb for a half hour show, 7 gb for an hour. I've been moving them one or two at a time on an 8 gb card, but that's kind of a pain. It takes 5 mins for each half hour show.I have a wireless home network, but that takes an hour to move one half hour show.Is there a faster way to move the files from one computer to another? Like ethernet cards or something?
