Shared Files Not Accessible On Network
Jan 19, 2011
I have a router-based home network in which the desktop running XP media center is connected by cable to the router. There are 2 wireless laptops, one running XP home and the other Windows 7.The laptops can talk to each other, and the desktop can talk to the laptops. But I cannot access the desktop from the laptops. I can see the (shared) folders, but when I click on one I get the message: "You might not have permission to use this network resource..Not enough server storage is available to process this command." One solution suggested in several places is to change the IRPStackSize to 15. However, if I start the desktop in safe mode with networking, I can access the files.I can also access the machine using remote desktop. One extra frustration is that this is a problem that has happened relatively recently. It used to work OK.

Have a server linked to four computers and a laptop for a business and can't seem to access shared files on server from other computers as it keeps asking for username and password to access it. Have tried to change from workgroup to domain that the server is on so to create username and password but error message keeps coming up 'a domain controller for the domain ata.local could not be contacted or if just use ata as domain it does not accept any username or password. Also have tried suggestions in other forums such as simple sharing and creating an account on other pc's with same username and password as server. All of the systems are windows xp and the server is windows standard.

#1 windows 7 computer has a wired connection and #2 windows 7 computer has a wireless connection. When at #2 and trying to save a file to #1, the save time may be about a minute. When doing the same thing from a computer #3 with windows xp, the save time is a few seconds. Tried safe mode with networking. Same thing. Tried disabling remote differential compression. No change. The three computers are in the same workgroup.

I have a user that is trying to save an excel speadsheet that is located in a shared folder on a server, the user can open the file and edit ok but when they try to save the file the progress bar pops up but just hangs then a message pops up to saying "file not saved". They are using Windows 7.The user is new and I have just set up their account so thought it might be permission issues but I have logged the user in on two other different machines (1 win7 and 1 WinXP) and they have no problem at all.

We've recently installed Windows Server 2003 at our small office for data storage, and have set up shared folders in the Win Server 2K3 for access from about a dozen Win XP Pro machines.Upon the first access of these shared folders from a Win XP Pro machine, we're required to enter a User Name & Password for the Win Server 2K3 machine:Is there a work-around for this? Perhaps some method in WinXP Pro to save the username/password? As it stands now, any time one of the WinXP Pro machines gets rebooted, or if the server gets rebooted, users of the Win XP Pro machines have to re-enter the username/password, and I'd like to find if there's away around having to re-enter that info.

I'm trying to get a network drive mapped across a site-to-site VPN. The details...
Network layout:XP (192.168.1.x) -- router -- site-to-site VPN tunnel -- router -- Win7 (192.168.2.x)
- Shared folders are on the XP PC
- Can ping across
- No VPN client software being used; uses site-to-site
- Router configuration had not been changed
- IPSec tunnel set to allow NetBIOS across
- PCs both set to allow NetBIOS over TCP/IP
- All PCs on the .1.0 LAN can access the shared folders on the XP machine
- All PCs on the .2.0 LAN can see each other
- ran "nbtstat -RR" on both PCs
- Have rebooted both routers; power-cycled the one at the .1.0 site
The Windows 7 PC (.2.x) can't access the shared folders on the XP (.1.x) PC The Windows 7 PC CAN access the shared folders when at the .1.0 site, but not at the .2.0 site. This apparently started when the XP PC was rebooted. I don't know why that would have affected it.

I was trying to connect my computers on a home network so that I can access either one via the other. When I try however I get the message:
"***-PC is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
long failure: user account restriction. Possible reasons are blank passwords not allowed, logon hour restrictions, or a police restriction has been enforced.
That is the message from computer 1 to computer 2.
Computer 2 gives me the message:
Windows cannot access \***-PC
Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose.

I have a fairly simple wireless home network. My main desktop machine is running XP Pro, and our family laptop is running XP Home. The laptop shares the My Documents folder for 2 of the 3 profiles. One of them works as it should. It is visible and accessible on the main desktop machine, but the other share is visible but NOT accessible. I get the following error message when I try to explore it from the main desktop machine:
<the share name> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
Access is denied.
I'm not sure when this started, but remember that the other folder being shared is working just fine. I've double and triple checked the settings, share names, and basically anything I could possibly mistype. I've restarted both PCs, and refreshed the network explorer via both the file explorer and My Computer dialog. The My Computer dialog refresh the shares for some reason that the explorer wouldn't, but I'm still denied access to that one share on the laptop.

Internet access is working fine, however I cannot get my computers to work on the network therefore cant share any files or play any network games. The router is set up as DHCP server therefore IPs are automatically assigned, this is setup on the PCs and the router. The work group is also set. Exactly same settings basically as my old router which worked fine but wont on this one! I have 3 wired PCs and a wireless laptop. 2 PCs are windows XP the other is Windows 7 and the laptop is windows 7. The wireless win7 laptop will recognize my win7 wired PC and vice versa and can share everything without problems, but they wont have anything to do with the wired winxp PCs, on top of that the 2 winxp wont recognize each other either so don't think its anything platform specific. I have also tried setting up static IPs for each computer - still no joy. This is a brand new D-Link DIR-655 Rev B1 firmware 2.00

I recently change routers to a Linksys E3000 wireless router from a Uverese 2wire residential gateway and all worked well for a short time nothing changed however when I go to view network devices from Win7,Vista or XP computers the network devices are no longer there. when I shut down and reboot the router and switches I still cannot see these devices, however when I hook up my old 2wire router I see my devices again. Even when I reconnect to the E3000 all the devices can be viewed for a few hours. Changing routers resets something but maybe overloads the linksys E3000 after a few hours? maybe this E3000 is just defective?
When I view a network map in Network & Internet all the devices appear in the map The configuration is Linksys E3000 router with two (2) 8 port Trendnet gigabyte switches and One (1) 8 port Trendnet Poe 10/100 switch. They are chained router to 8 port gig to 8 port gig to 8 port Poe 10/100. Prior to this I had the router to each switch separately - - this does not seem to matter works the same either way
Devices attached - Network printer,XP desktop, Vista Desktop, NAS, WDTVlive media player, Roku, Home automation controller, IP touch screen for the automation, security DVR (wireless devices are all ok Win7 laptop, Vista laptop, Ipad)seldom are more than 3 devices being used at one time light traffic.)

I just got my dad's old notebook (VAIO VPC F223FB) which is better than my older one. So, I did a backup and then managed to clean install a Windows 7 Professional x64.At first I had a problem with the drivers, because the internet wasn't connecting and the USB ports weren't detecting my External Drive. So, I tested other USB port and got it. Installed the drivers and I could connect to the wireless network. But it doesn't detect the ethernet cable! And I want it detecting because then it's faster. I already tried downloading the Ethernet Controller driver. At first, I downloaded through Sony's support site but it didn't recognize the driver. Now, it recognizes but still doesn't connect it. And when I tried Solving Connection Problems, it said the network gateway was accessible but Windows can't receive Internet network traffic.

I am experiencing one, possibly two problems with the X3000, firmware release v1.0.03:
1. When enabling guest mode, the internal network is not accessible via WLAN even for clients NOT connected via guest mode but regularly: Even non-guests but regularly connected clients can't access any internal IP but the router itself. netscan shows only the very client's IP and the router's. Only after switching guest mode entirely off, regularly connected clients can access interal IP again. netscan correctly shows the whole network. Obviously a firmware bug. BTW: Clients connected via cable do not experience this problems.
2. I am not sure about this, but after using the firmware built in "Reboot" button, the router reboots correctly. But for some reason, it is instable afterwards. It is operational for a few seconds but then reboots again. It keeps cycling. I could stop it by switching the router off and on again.

We received an ASA5520-K8 through Cisco's Loan program so we could demo it as a replacement for our aging Cisco 3005 VPN appliances. Given that we are a non Cisco shop (except for specific appliances like concentrators and wireless access points), I don't have a great deal of experience with Cisco gear.I started to set to setup the appliance this morning but immediately ran into issues. The 5520 doesnt seem to be acting as a DHCP server, and worse yet, I can't access the unit even if I hard code the IP on the PC being used for configuration. I have to say that I feel kinda stupid having to post this, since I actually followed the documentation avaiable for this menial task and I fully expect the problem to be a simple one. Namely, I am using two specific sources of info for connections.

I share an unsecured network with my next door neighbor. The Norton Antivirus trial ran out on my new Sony VAIO laptop. Immediately after, it stopped connecting to our network (and any other unsecured network). I've tried turning off Windows Firewall, turning off Windows Defender, did a system restore, uninstalled Norton, used the Norton removal tool, installed and uninstalled another antivirus program (the one that Google Apps recommends... starts with an I), verified the wireless switch is turned on, rebooted my computer, did every update for both Windows and VAIO, booted in safe mode w/ networking, created a new profile... nothing is working!!!!

I have two places that I work out of. One is in Romania and one in Bulgaria. In Romania, I have a small office/home network set up. It has at least 8 computers (including the three that I have with me currently - some wireless and some towers) and a couple of android phones and Ipods. I have no trouble accessing any of the computers shared folders or them accessing mine. There are a varity of operating systems used there from XP, Windows 7 and Mac.Everything works great. All the computers can access each other shared resources. All the computers are set to get IP automatically from my DLink DIR - 600 router. I have brought my three computers to Bulgaria (tower and two laptops). They are all set the same- no changes in settings. However, in Bulgaria, All three computers CAN access the internet but NOT each other.

The desktop is connected to the router wirelessly, a pace 2wire gateway, and wirelessly on the laptop. I can see it in the list of devices connected to the gateway, as well as the network folder. I am unable to ping my desktop from the laptop, but i can do so the other way around (desktop can ping my laptop). This is despite turning off windows firewall on the desktop. This started happening right when i got the SP2 upgrade for the desktop, it's a vista system.

I thought that there are more security issues than LAN issues, I have a network with 11 computers of which 1 is SME server and 10 are clients (mainly 256MB DDR1 tech machines withceleron D processors, onboard VGA and sound; there are few 1024MB DDR2, AMD Sempron LE processors). All clients have XPSP3, .NET framework 1.1+2.0, Office 2003, AvastFree 7.0, Mozilla Firefox 7.0 and several utilities not very important. Every client has 2 users (Admin and User) on Local Machine and 1 on DOMAIN (UserDomain). Both User accounts are limited. First, all computers were in same workgroup and not part of DOMAIN. In that time, printers on clients were shared among themselves and worked flawlessly. After joining the clients to the DOMAIN, the work continued without issues. One day, I have changed the name of the SME SERVER computer and the issues have started. Several clients can not connect to those shared printers, even others are using them well. When I want to add shared printer I can not browse the particular computer on which the shared printer is (through ADD PRINTER wizard). I manage to do it writing the full path of the particular computer and there I can choose the printer.
After selecting it, username and password is required to finish the adding. Of course I use the Admin username ad password, and after typing it error message pop up (printer is unavailable or can not connect to it). After this I close all windows, start the adding procedure again, and then I can add the printer normally. The problem continues, because, on those computers on which I have had this complicated way of install, after several days shared printers refuse to print saying Access denied. Then I have to delete the printer again, install it twice and hope to work after that for a weak at least.
The problem is getting bigger, as on one client computer I can not print from browsers (Firefox 7, IE 8) but from Office there is no problem. Of course I have checked other topics about this and use setups-modifications-advices but they did not solve printing problems. I have even reinstalled that computer, but the problem remains.
