Is it possible to shared a wireless connection over a separate network. I have a wireless connection i use to access the internet.Its strength isn't good enough to use in the entire space i need.I am looking to connect the pc with the wireless connection to a local wireless network that is in place and functioning (via cable to a wireless router) and share the internet connection.
View 1 RepliesI have a 1TB USB hard drive attached to my E3000 (current firmware), I use it for FTP and Shared Media on my network. Recently I have noticed that I have files out there that have 0 KB in size (file names/details are still these), I re-upload the files to the folders and during the upload the correct file size shows but a bit later(within minutes) they all show 0 KB again. I have not seen this type of behavior on an HD before. Additionally, I added some 20 mp3 files to the FTP site, same thing happened but then I zipped up the 20 mp3 files and the zip file uploaded with not problems and is still there with its proper file size, of course this is not a solution when I want to play media files on my TV.

-tried download and extract on a 2nd installed windows (I have dual boot) and its same CRC error
-tried another non built-in LAN card pci-E x1 and its the same CRC error
-tried restore bios to default and its same CRC error
-tried putting a laptop on the same line instead of my PC and it works no errors no problems
Our previous wireless router (Netgear Rangemax wpn802) died yesterday so I went out and bought a Western Digital My Net N900. The issue is that now anyone using the wireless signal can't connect to a shared network folder that they were previously able to connect to using the old router.
I'm not able to log into the old router to see any of its settings. I do have access to the server that has the shared folder - I just don't have any idea what needs to be set in order for the N900 to allow me through to the shared folder - whether it's on the router side or the server side.

My problem: Shared network drive (folder), when accessed over wireless from more than 1 PC (2 or 3) simultaneously, drops everywhere with a "The specified network name is no longer available" (in Windows Explorer), or "File cannot be read" (in a program). And I don't mean accessing the same file; yes, the files I've tried with are in the same folder, but when the connection is lost a)one client is streaming video from one file and b)another client is copying over some other file to the same folder. It even happens, for example, when one client is transferring a file, and another tries to list the folder. The connection for the file transfer is immediately lost.
My setup: Home network. 4 clients (3 laptops - 2 running XP and one running windows 7, and a desktop, running windows XP). 1 server, running windows server 2003 Enterprise Edition, 2Gb RAM, 2.66 Celeron CPU, and with a 1.3 TB Shared drive partition. The idea is to use the server as a NAS. The desktop and the server are connected via 100MBit UTP/Ethernet, to a DLINK DI-604 Router (WAN port of the router used for Internet). To another one of the LAN ports is connected a Wireless router, NETGEAR WGT624 v3. Wireless connection for the laptops is established at 54 Mbits. The share is mainly used for movies and music sharing between the PCs. When using the shared drive from the desktop (or if I use a LAN cable to plug directly to the DI) I have zero connection problems. For the wireless, however, as I mentioned before, the second I do two twings on two different machines that are connected over wireless simultaneously (and I've tried *all* combinations) the connection is lost for 5 seconds, which is not significant, but enough to be annoying if watching a movie or trying to use the "robust" file transfer of Windows.
What I've tried so far: Perfmon was showing that Page Reads were high, so I upgraded the RAM TO 2Gb(previously the server had only 1Gb or RAM). I tried having each client map the drive using its own account, that did not work either. I've been dealing with shared drives a lot (on win 2000-win 2008 servers), but not nearly as bad of behavior. Worst I've had is having to remap the drives every once in a while if not used or a client gets restarted and loses the mapping. However, I've dealt primarily with sharing over Ethernet, and not WiFi. I'm not a rookie by any means (I've covered CCNA and have done quite a bit of sys admin work as a hobby) I've done all of the basic troubleshooting, the problem is very specific and not a general networking problem by any means.
I am designing a network internet connection to our 20 apartment block. The WAN is Ultima up to 40mb/s and the take up is expected to be modest in terms of throughput. However I have been told that two apartments want to run their own non commercial web sites which currently operate on adsl with ddns provision from TZO. The netgear vdsl router supplied by the ISP will obviously have port forwarding but how do I cater for more than one LAN destination requiring port 80 traffic??Surely I dont have to have an in-block DNS.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently installed an E4200 router to an MacPro following the setup as directed by Cisco Connection (connect Ethernet to router and then computer to router.) The wireless and the hard-wire connectivity works fine with accessing the internet. However, we have lost the ability to connect to other computers on our LAN via the Shared folder connection. This is usually accessed via the Sidebar (see image)
However with the E4200 in the mix, all we see is the router per its "given name" (what it was named on installation). I have tried to follow the advice mentioned in other threads, such as "Can't access network shares with E3000" and nothing worked-- and those threads seemed to apply to Windows and PCs anyway.
I'm having a Strange problem. When i try to Explorer files in a network location by typing \<Computer Name> it does not work, Network path not Found error appears. But i can browse files using IP Address.
1. This Happen only at this particular machine only. I can Explorer files using the Computer name from other machines.
2. nslookup shows the correct IP.
3. I can connect to the file server using Remote Desktop by typing the Computer Name.
Today when I tried to access one network folder, I could not access it. I was getting the message "computer name\folder name is not accessible, you might not have permission to use this network resource".Then I went to the host computer and changed the permission to "everyone" but still I'm getting the same message.

There are 2 wireless laptops, one running XP home and the other Windows 7.The laptops can talk to each other, and the desktop can talk to the laptops.But I cannot access the desktop from the laptops. I can see the (shared) folders, but when I click on one I get the message: "You might not have permission to use this network resource..Not enough server storage is available to process this command." One solution suggested in several places is to change the IRPStackSize to 15. However, if I start the desktop in safe mode with networking, I can access the files.I can also access the machine using remote desktop.One extra frustration is that this is a problem that has happened relatively recently. It used to work OK.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI share an unsecured network with my next door neighbor. The Norton Antivirus trial ran out on my new Sony VAIO laptop. Immediately after, it stopped connecting to our network (and any other unsecured network). I've tried turning off Windows Firewall, turning off Windows Defender, did a system restore, uninstalled Norton, used the Norton removal tool, installed and uninstalled another antivirus program (the one that Google Apps recommends... starts with an I), verified the wireless switch is turned on, rebooted my computer, did every update for both Windows and VAIO, booted in safe mode w/ networking, created a new profile... nothing is working!!!!

It has at least 8 computers (including the three that I have with me currently - some wireless and some towers) and a couple of android phones and Ipods. I have no trouble accessing any of the computers shared folders or them accessing mine. There are a varity of operating systems used there from XP, Windows 7 and Mac.Everything works great. All the computers can access each other shared resources. All the computers are set to get IP automatically from my DLink DIR - 600 router. I have brought my three computers to Bulgaria (tower and two laptops). They are all set the same- no changes in settings. However, in Bulgaria, All three computers CAN access the internet but NOT each other.

I currently have a E3000 router. I have set up a shared USB drive successfully through this router. After a couple of months, I needed to re-locate my router into a different room. After doing so, I plug back in the USB drive and cannot access it. If I go through the GUI, it tells me that the drive type is not supported, and if I just plug it into a computer to obtain the infromation off of it, I get a "drive is corrupted" error
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a E3000 with a USB hard drive plugged into it. It works perfectly as a shared storage drive from all my computers. But as a Media Server it is not working. I purchased a Sony SMP-N200 Steaming Media Server that found all the PCs in the house and can stream music and photos fine. It does not see the shared USB drive connected to the E3000. Sony's web site says it uses DLNA to find and stream music and photos. It says Windows 7 is one example of DLNA When I go to DLNA.org and check to see what routers are DLNA compliant, it says the Cisco E4200 and E4200v2 is. Is Cisco going to make a firmeware upgrade to include DLNA for the E3000?

When I transfer data from PC to USB shared storage on the router the speed seems normal while it goes awful when I do the opposite. The average speed goes around 200kb/s to be specific. This is unbelievable as it is year 2013.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy E4200 storage config (portions of it) does not persist through reboot cycles. We often have to reboot the router because we lose wireless conectivity, and each time we reboot, we lose our mapped drives because the router is no longer sharing the folders and permissions I set up. And in the storage settings, my shared folder setup looks like factory default (sharing only root /) after each reboot. Those settings do not persist. I have to restore my router config from a backup after each reboot, which is a real pain. Especially when the kids reboot the router to get their wireless back, but restore is just too complicated for them, and so they call me when they then can not access their network share folders with homework on them.

Have tried to change from workgroup to domain that the server is on so to create username and password but error message keeps coming up 'a domain controller for the domain ata.local could not be contacted or if just use ata as domain it does not accept any username or password. Also have tried suggestions in other forums such as simple sharing and creating an account on other pc's with same username and password as server. All of the systems are windows xp and the server is windows standard.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am unable to connect to my desktop's shared folders, and get the message "network path not found" when attempting to go into the desktop. The desktop is connected to the router wirelessly, a pace 2wire gateway, and wirelessly on the laptop. I can see it in the list of devices connected to the gateway, as well as the network folder. I am unable to ping my desktop from the laptop, but i can do so the other way around (desktop can ping my laptop). This is despite turning off windows firewall on the desktop. This started happening right when i got the SP2 upgrade for the desktop, it's a vista system.

I have created a share (entire partition) on my external hard drive, which is connected to my E4200 router. The connection to the share is \192.168.1.1ExHDOn the hard drive I've got a folder called "Mijn muziek" (Dutch for My music). So when i go to \192.168.1.1ExHDMijn muziek, the content of the folder is shown. The weird thing is, I can rename the folder, but i cannot add anything to the folder or remove anything from it. I can add files to other folders on the hard driveAnother thing I don't understand is that his folder shows up as "Music" when I create the share.Music is not a folder on the hard drive, but when I go to \192.168.1.1ExHDMusic, i'm in the "Mijn muziek" folder.I have the exact same problems with the folders "Mijn documenten" (shown as Documents) and "Mijn afbeeldingen" (shown as Pictures). Why i don't have write access on the Mijn muziek folder? And how I can manage to get write access on it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI thought that there are more security issues than LAN issues, I have a network with 11 computers of which 1 is SME server and 10 are clients (mainly 256MB DDR1 tech machines withceleron D processors, onboard VGA and sound; there are few 1024MB DDR2, AMD Sempron LE processors). All clients have XPSP3, .NET framework 1.1+2.0, Office 2003, AvastFree 7.0, Mozilla Firefox 7.0 and several utilities not very important. Every client has 2 users (Admin and User) on Local Machine and 1 on DOMAIN (UserDomain). Both User accounts are limited. First, all computers were in same workgroup and not part of DOMAIN. In that time, printers on clients were shared among themselves and worked flawlessly. After joining the clients to the DOMAIN, the work continued without issues. One day, I have changed the name of the SME SERVER computer and the issues have started. Several clients can not connect to those shared printers, even others are using them well. When I want to add shared printer I can not browse the particular computer on which the shared printer is (through ADD PRINTER wizard). I manage to do it writing the full path of the particular computer and there I can choose the printer.
After selecting it, username and password is required to finish the adding. Of course I use the Admin username ad password, and after typing it error message pop up (printer is unavailable or can not connect to it). After this I close all windows, start the adding procedure again, and then I can add the printer normally. The problem continues, because, on those computers on which I have had this complicated way of install, after several days shared printers refuse to print saying Access denied. Then I have to delete the printer again, install it twice and hope to work after that for a weak at least.
The problem is getting bigger, as on one client computer I can not print from browsers (Firefox 7, IE 8) but from Office there is no problem. Of course I have checked other topics about this and use setups-modifications-advices but they did not solve printing problems. I have even reinstalled that computer, but the problem remains.
I am unable to access network shared documents and programs on Windows 7... the problem is more that I am simply unsure of how to proceed more than some sort of hardware or software problem.

When at #2 and trying to save a file to #1, the save time may be about a minute. When doing the same thing from a computer #3 with windows xp, the save time is a few seconds. Tried safe mode with networking. Same thing. Tried disabling remote differential compression. No change. The three computers are in the same workgroup.

They are using Windows 7.The user is new and I have just set up their account so thought it might be permission issues but I have logged the user in on two other different machines (1 win7 and 1 WinXP) and they have no problem at all.

I support an OU in a large university domain. Myself and one other user are the only people experiencing this issue in an OU comprised of over 20 machines.
We've just deployed a site-to-site VPN using a 5505 ASA on the client's site and a checkpoint Nokia FW on our site. Everything seems to be fine except that the user's connections to their file shares seem to be intermittently dropping. One minute the connection to the shares is there, next thing it's lost. There is no logic to it because no two users are experiencing issues at the same time, as a matter of fact even on the same PC where a user has access to 3 shares on 3 different servers, one could be showing as connected whereas the other two be dropping. As you can see the Duplex and Speed are set to auto, I've rectified this since then and I'm keeping a close eye on the output errors, and collisions. However, I'm afraid that this did not rectify the issue and the users are still experiencing intermittent connection dropping to their file shares over the VPN!
Often my router drops connection to all my devices. Multiple times a day. It's only for a minute or so, but it's annoying. I'm using a Linksys Wireless-N router (WRT160N) with WEP encryption. I'm running two Windows 7 laptops, LG BluRay player, Apple TV, Xbox 360 (Wired) iPhone 4, and a iPad 2. It doesn't matter if I'm browsing the web, watching Netflix, or playing a game, the connection gets lost. As we speak it happened again. I have no clue on what to do. I've reconfigured it multiple times. Firmware has been updated months ago.
