View 1 Replies View Relatedwe have two servers in our network, one functions as a file server (windows server 2008) and the other as a domain controller with active directory and some database applications running on it (windows SBS 2003). the file server has folders for the different units in our company, these are shared folders. these folders can be accessed by anyone with a domain login by running \servername from their computers, without any further authentication required.
i have tried to set up sharing restrictions with no success, for example the Accounts folder, i right click on it and select properties, and the sharing or security. under both tabs i added three names of those that i want to have access to the folder. these names appear in the sharing list together with:administrator(servernameadministrator) administrators (servernameadministrators) administrator systemeveryone has not been added as is the case with all other folders. what is this system on the list? how i can restrict access, perhaps there is a setting that i have missed or settings in the network that prevent these restrictions?
At our work, we have a shared documents server and also an email server to connect to. For some reason, on one computer only, I cannot connect to either my e-mail or the shared docs. It simply will not accept the credentials (ie my password for my username). It won't accept anyone else credentials either. I have set up fine on another computer, and on my home computer which is on a different network. I can categorically say that it's a computer problem as the usernames/passwords work fine on every other computer, but this one cannot seem to connect. I connect to the servers through a shortcut on the desktop, so i think it's the exchange or something I can't connect to.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently built a server for home use as i have 6 computers in the house and would like to access all of my information on all of them. The idea was just to have a place for storage and not so much application use. i don't want to have to enter a password every time i try to access a folder and i don't want to use Active Directory if i can avoid it. The server itself is running Windows Server 2008 R1 Enterprise Edition 64 bit. (my office had extra copies that they had no use for) I have an iMac, Windows 7 computers and one Linux box.
It does not matter what computer i use or what settings i seem to apply, but I cannot get into the hard drives of the server. I set it up with 2 sets of 2TB drives each set up in RAID 1 for backup. i have done such things before in windows xp and i thought it would be the same.
I am having problems setting up a VPN between a Win7 PC and a Server 2008 machine.I am using 'Routing and Remote Access'(with NAT)on the server and all seems to be set up correctly. The Win7 PC connects fine and authenticates but I am not able to see shared drives on the server. It says it is connected with PPTP, I would prefer SSTP. How do I enforce SSTP as the default connection type? I tried this from the VPN client and it wont connect at all.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just set up a VPN connection from my laptop (Win 7) to my office network using Netgear Prosafe VPN client software to my Netgear Prosafe VPN router. I can connect successfully to the router and can successfully ping any of the devices on my work network. Currently, there are shared drives on the work network that I'd like to access from the laptop. All file sharing options are set so that other local machines can access through the network (the drive I'm trying to access runs off of an XP machine). Any attempts at mapping or using \ipaddressfile come back with a "windows cannot access" message.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy goal is to be able to login with a few laptops and be able to access internet and our file server's hard drive.
However, I purchased a wireless router and simply plugged this into the main router which allows internet access but does not allow access to other wired computers. If I directly plug the server into this wireless router with this router being wired to the main router, then the wired computers cannot access the server. It's as if it creates its own little network. So, I connected this directly to the main router which gives internet access but nothing else.
(Note: I cannot simply install a new main router.)
I believe I need a wireless access point, but I'm not certain.
I have a Cisco SRP527W at my remote office set up. I have configered a VPN connection to it. I installed Cisco VPN Client on my laptop.I can connect to the VPN but can not access the shared folders. I can ping the PC that has the shared folders. I take my PC and connect to the onsite LAN with WIFI, and I can now view the shared folders. I assume it must be somthing in the VPN set up that is blocking the shared folders from being seen. I also have disconnect all firewalls during testing at the remote end. I'am using windows 7 (64) on both PC's.
View 6 Replies View RelatedStill trying to get this XP pro SP3 to connect to or log into the server, a Windows 2008 jobber. I get the pop up that says unable to access the server, may be a permissions issue. I am administrator on both though and it should not be an issue plus I can ping each machine from the other. The XP machine does not show up in the network on the server though. The server shows up on the XP but then will not allow me to log into it. I changed all user names and pass codes on all the machines to be the same and it cleared up a number of issues except this one. The network name on the server is Network 2 and on another machine the network is named Network 3. Don't know what this means. This XP machine used to connect to the server without issues. My server guy moved away and well, I am just not that savy on 2008 Server. All the other machines are Windows 7. Oh yes, this is a work group with DHCP from a VPN and a Comcast (bless their souls) gateway.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been reading that the Windows Server Backup that is included with Server 08 R2 is pretty good. Is spending $400 on a third party utility worth it?
I'm asking because we're purchasing a new server soon and I want to know if the included backup is going to be good enough. Will be backing up server state as well as data to tape and possibly an off site server (server 2003) if I get my way.
I have the port numbers but do not know how to proceed from there. Router is a WRT160N V2.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am involved in a huge project that requires Servers PCs to function as Routers in schools to prevent broadcast traffic issues (Thread here: Need Professional Advice on 3 MANs implementations - Long story short: Can't buy regular routers because of budget and neet to use current equipment to make the network work, that is, Windows Servers 2008 with 2 NICs.
Now to the point. We are making tests but can't make Static routes to work properly. Design is as follows:
Now we have seen that we need to use this command (in cmd) to add a static route in W2008:
route add [NETWORK DESTINATION] mask [SUBNETMASK] [GATEWAY] if [NIC]
Q1: What exact command(s) do we have to use to make the Laptop in 10.10.10.0 to access Internet? How would you fill those fields based on the diagram?
Q2: How many Static routes do we need to declare? I am guessing we just need one, but I have been told that I need to activate two (one for packets sent by the laptop to the router, and one for the packets sent by the router to the laptop?)
We have tried several combinations and can't make laptop to access Internet, not even to ping 192.168.1.5. We have just accomplished pinging to 192.168.1.181 from the Laptop, and to ping 10.10.10.2 from the Server but that's as far as we went.
