To Fix Wireless Speeds On Laptop

Feb 26, 2011

I had a Belkin Wireless G setup with a wireless extender since my signal was very low on different levels of the house. I decided to upgrade to a N network. I purchased a D-Link DIR-655 Extreme N Gigabit Wireless Router and connect with my HP Pavillion 6700 with Win 7 laptop via an AirLink101 AWLL6075 Wireless N Mini USB Adapter.

Fujitsu Laptop / Slow Wireless Speeds And Browsing

On my laptop I have intermittant problems printing to my wireless printer due to slow speeds and timiming out, also loading online pages seems very slow.I have 2 of these fujitsu laptops and they both behave roughly the same.

Intel Pro/wireless 3945ABG

Belkin F7D4301 - Router Has Slow Wireless Speeds But Fast Ethernet Speeds

May 19, 2013

My Belkin F7D4301 Router has the fastest wireless speed of maybe 2MBps but wired with a cat5e cable to my asus laptop of almost 7MBps. I have a one smart TV, one blue ray, one roku, and a nexus 7 using the 2.4 channel.

My Wireless 2.4 settings are channel 11, Extension channel 7, Wireless mode N (have tried with just g and b, g, and n modes), Bandwidth 20/40, Protected mode on, QOS off.

I've talked to Belkin tech support, they are the ones who had me set up my 2.4 channel this way but my wireless speeds stay just under 2MBps, they just want to keep sending me the same model Router because they think each of the new ones they send me is defective.

Am I doing something wrong or is 2MBps the best wireless speed I'm going to get?

Slow Wifi Speeds On Laptop

Mar 3, 2013

All of a sudden the wifi on my laptop has been really slow lately. I remember before I could stream 720p videos without any buffer on Youtube. Now I'm lucky if I can somewhat stream a 340p without the occasional stutters/buffers. Sometimes I would be getting 39 Mbps or 52 Mbps (if I'm really lucky) , but most of the times I would get either 26-19 Mbps. On all my other devices (iPod, Family Desktop, iPhone) the internet speed seems just fine as they can stream in 720p and browse without any network problems. Also I am upstairs with the router downstairs in the family room.

My results from Speedtest.net - 25 ms, 2.56 Mbps Download Speed, 0.38 Mbps Upload Speed.

This result is VERY UNSTABLE, sometimes I couldn't even get 1 Mbps download speed (more like 0.8). I would also have like 50 ms. I am running Windows 8 Pro with a Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC on a Toshiba Satellite Laptop.DHCP is enabled. IPv6 is not. I made sure everything was updated using Windows Update. And I'm only using the windows defender firewall which I made wasn't blocking anything by disabling it and seeing if it cleared up any problems - which it did not, the same thing happened.

Hp Pavilion Dv6 / Slow Wifi Speeds With Laptop

Sep 18, 2012

My LAN speed is usually around 5100 via my SpeedTouch router ST585v6. When I am using my Laptop, an HP Pavilion dv6 running Windows 7 with an AMD quad Core cpu, not the fastest of computers!, I seem to get WIFi speeds as low as 1700 whilst at other times can get 5000. Laptop! Is the speed drop a "computer problem" or a router one? If I connect the Laptop to the LAN the speed will always be at about 5100. My desktop computer is connected to the LAN and has a speed of 5100.I have the usual security set on the Router.

Slow Download Speeds On Brand New Lenovo Laptop?

Dec 27, 2012

I just got a new Lenovo Ideapad y500 a few days ago, and the internet speed has been incredibly slow from the get-go. Loading images on pages takes way longer than it should, I can't watch streaming videos that last 4 minutes without it pausing to buffer every 5-10 seconds. It took about 20 minutes to download a 50mb file. My 4 year old laptop loads everything way faster, especially when downloading files. I did a ping test on both and everything was about the same, except I got a download speed of .75 mb/s on the new laptop, and between 12-17 mb/s on the old laptopI did a few ping tests, and this is what I got:Ping: 25 msDownload speed: .75 mbpsUpload speed: 4.10 mpbs.

And then I tried the same test with the laptop plugged directly in to the router with the ethernet cable and I got a ping of 20 + download speed of 25.12 mbps, and I tried loading a few youtube videos and they ran perfectly. Then I ran the test again over wifi, only this time I ran it sitting right next to the router. Still got download speeds of about 20 mbps. As soon as I got back to my room (which isn't that far from the router) the download speed dropped back to ~.80 and everything went back to loading slow again. The thing is, running the test from the exact same spot in my room on my old laptop, I still was able to get download speeds of around 18 mbps. My network card is an Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230 and the router is Linksys WRT150N wireless-n.I've tried downloading the wireless drivers from Lenovo, and it didn't change anything. So those are up to date. There were no firmware updates available for the router on Linksys' site

Unable To Get Proper Speeds Via Wireless

Jan 15, 2013

Had Infinity installed yesterday which means we're up from our awful 3mb speeds to around 35ish. A partner in my household is using a laptop downstairs and it's getting the full speeds, no problems.

However, upon plugging in a wireless adapter upstairs in a PC, it's not getting the full speeds, not even close. A mixture between 1mb and on one occasion about 8mb. The speedtest is showing something like 400ms too. I stick a wire into the PC and it's fine, around 30 or so ms and hitting the full speeds available. The wireless adapter is a Phillips, never really had any problems with it before, not that I know of anyway.

Wireless Speeds With Linksys Router

Nov 21, 2012

Recently the Comcast internet service in my area was upgraded to 50+ Mbps/10+ Mbps download/upload respectively. If I have my computer wired to the router, I see the advertised speeds of 50/10. If I go wireless, the speeds drop to around 30 Mbps download, but stay at around 10 Mbps upload. The router I have is a Linksys WRT160Nv1.I believe the issue has to do with "WMM Support" in my router's settings. From what I've heard, the router has to have WMM enabled for true wireless N speeds, but when I have WMM enabled, my wireless download speeds drop to around .5 Mbps. However, this is the odd part. My upload speeds stay at 10+ Mbps. This happens for all devices in my house.

SB5120 Wireless Speeds Alarmingly Slow?

Jan 11, 2012

My computer is hooked to a SB5120 cable modem which is also hooked to a wireless router (BEFW11S4). I switched plans not long ago, and I noticed recently that when other known users are using the internet, their wireless download speeds are shockingly low. (I'd download it at ~1MBps, other users will download it at ...~20 KBps alone) My network is secured with a WEP, and I certainly have no giant metal ball on top of my wireless router, what could cause such slow speeds?

Slow Speeds On PC Which Shares Wireless Network?

Aug 19, 2011

I have 3 or 4 devices connected via a wireless connection, 2 of which are in the same room. Roughly a week ago, my desktop (Vista OS) started to suffer from severely reduced download speeds (5-30kb/s), while my laptop (also Vista OS) which is on the same wireless network continues to run at normal speeds (500kb/s-1mb/s).

I have tried a system restore, scanning for viruses, updating/disabling antivirus and firewalls, connecting directly to LAN, changed wireless interface speed from g to b to mixed, changed wireless channels from 1-6-11, nothing seems to work.

I have a Thomson TG782T router with a D-Link wireless card (which is rather old).

Slow Wireless Network Connection Speeds?

Aug 13, 2011

I recently moved to a new apartment to be closer to work and this apartment complex is only covered by what I was told is a wireless hotspot.Basically, a wireless devices connects to the SSID, logs in, and then you're set with the most pitiful internet still available. Now I was told I could pay $70 bucks to have these people (Onlyinternet.net by the way) install a device that would allow me to connect my desktop to the internet service. Wasn't thrilled about that. Its $40 a month, for a 1Mb connection so that wasn't going to happen anyway.Looked up internet connection sharing and had setup my laptop to use it with my desktop. My connection on my laptop has always had a very low signal; between one and two bars no matter where I'm at in my apartment. If I go outside it'll get about 4 bars but that is about it. The actual speeds listed on the Wireless Network Connection Status go from 1Mbps, 2Mpbs, 5.5Mpbs and 11Mbps. Never higher.Today I went and picked up a NETGEAR N300 wireless router. My hope was that the router might be able to pick up the wireless connection and I could just connect through my router instead of having to use my laptop. Apparently, this is not the case.I have to use my laptop act as a modem and have it plugged into the Internet port of the router and then my desktop connected to one of the LAN ports on the router. Is this setup better then using the internet connection sharing deal? Is there any other way of increasing my signal strength and network speeds?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3200 Slow Speeds In Both Wired And Wireless Usage

Nov 12, 2012

Why my E3200 is (for lack of a better word) "throttling" my internet speeds.I'm signed up for my ISP's 50Mbps data plan. When I hook up my laptop directly to the cable modem (via LAN cable), I see close to 50Mbps as the internet speed (measure via speedtest.net). When I hook up my router to the cable modem, and connect via LAN cable to the router, the internet speed comes down to around a maximum of 26Mbps. NOTE, that I am still talking about a wired connection and not a wireless access. Speed tests with the wireless access do yield the same results as well. To rule out the obvious, I've confirmed that there aren't any other devices on the network and no other bandwidth hogging applications running while I performed these tests.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT160N Not Providing Fast Wireless Speeds?

Jan 26, 2012

I recently bought a WRT160N Wireless router and am not getting fast wireless speeds. My ISP told me my speeds are 10mbps download and 1 mbps upload. I realize that this is not lighting fast but it is all that I feel like i need. My speeds on the WRT160N are about 2-3 MBPS d/l and 600kbps u/l on my wireless connection, which is hooked up to my playstation 3. My wired connection, which goes to my pc, is 9.75 mbps d/l and about .95 mbps u/l, which seems right. Why am I getting such low speeds with a router that is suppose to be build for faster wireless and longer ranges. To make a comparison, I have been using an OLD linksys b-rated router. i can't exactly remember the model, but i think it is the bef11s4, it came with a network card and is about 6-7 years old. I was getting 3-3.5 mbps d/l and 800kbps u/l with the b rated router, and it seemed like a better reception, like in the 80's-90's. ThisWRT160N is getting like in the 70's and sometimes lower.I have tried setting the router to open all ports to a dedicated ip address, it made things a little better, maybe getting 2.5 mbps d/l at the most. What am i doing wrong? I have heard something about tomato firmware but am not real familiar with it?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Slow Wireless Transfer Speeds / Wrt160n V3

WRT54GS / Slower Internet Speeds On Wireless Connection?

Aug 17, 2011

I have two computers in the house both HP desktops, both run Windows XP SP3. The first one is connected to the internet by ethernet cable through a WRT160N router to a cable modem, the other is in another room ( about 20 feet away from the router with only one wall). The wired computer averages around 15-20mbps download speed while the wireless only gets about 7-9mbps. I've checked them both using Speakeasy.net and Speedtest.net the results are always about the same, the wireless has about half the download speed of the wired connection. They both have .95-.98 mbps upload speeds. When my old router (WRT54GS) finally gave up I bought the WRT160N which is an N router, I haven't upgraded the network adapter in the wireless computer to N yet. My question is should I lose this much speed through the wireless connection or do I need to change the settings on the router or the wireless adapter?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Connecting At Low Speeds

Also, it would drop, then reestablish, the connection several times per day.I contacted Tech Support via Live Chat, and got a woman who told me it was due to the fact that I'm using the router with an older system that has a wireless-G card (I'll be getting a new system soon).Of course, I thought that was ridiculous, so I called Linksys Tech Support and got a young man who had me reinstall the firmware upgrade (which I had already done when I installed the router). After that, it was good for about 24 hours, then the problems manifested again.I returned the router and ordered a replacement, also refrubished. Again, I upgraded the firmware upon installation. .

D-Link DIR-655 :: Wireless Internet Download Speeds Slow?

Mar 1, 2010

I'm currently subscribed to Comcast's 22/5 Internet service. Internet upload speeds on both wired and wireless are about the same at ~ 5 Mbps. Wireless download speeds range from .5-3 Mbps. Wired or Wireless, I receive LAN speeds of ~32 Mbps or 3-4 MB/s. The noticeable issue is wireless internet download speed. I have tried every configuration possible with my router, updated drivers on devices, firmware and tested everything I could on all PCs, and even used the XBOX 360's media extender network tuning feature as a tool in my investigation to find this bottleneck. All reports point to internet download speed. Again, general LAN and internet upload speeds relatively meet expectations. The wired download speeds are slow at times, but consistently meet expectations.

My current Setup:

WPA2 Only - Personal
802.11 Mode : 802.11n only

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT600N Slow Wi-Fi Speeds

Jun 1, 2012

I have a WRT600N router.  I have one PC that is connected to the router via a wired connection.  I also have an iPad (3rd generation) that is connected to the router via a wireless connection. On my PC, I went to speedtest.net and determined that I am receiving like 20MB downloads via the wired connection.  However, my iPad only gets approximately less than 2 MB download speeds.  I have tried reseting the router and I do have what I believe to be the latest firmware update (Firmware Version: 1.01.36 build 4).  I also receive the slow download speeds when I try connecting the other wireless devices.  I assume my problem has to do with some sort of configuration setting found in the router configuration page (http://192.168.1.1/). The router is only a few feet away from my iPad so the signal strength is strong.  I just don't understand why I'm receiving such slow wireless download speeds.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Poor Wireless To Wired Transfer Speeds?

I have tried 2 DIR-655 routers now, revision B1, firmware versions 2.04, 2.07, 2.08beta and a number of laptops and wireless mini pci-e nics and I simply CAN'T get faster than about 10 megabytes/sec transfer speed from a wireless laptop to a wired gigabit desktop.

Is this just simply a limitation of these routers?  Can they simply not transfer data at decent speeds?  I've seen real world transfer speeds near 12 megabytes/sec on a DIR-615 and I assumed the limiting factor there was the 100megabit wired connection.

I've spoken to a dozen different D-Link phone support workers

Cisco Wireless :: 1142 - Wi-Fi Speeds Fluctuating Rapidly

We have approximately 150 1142 LWAPP's deployed in our facility. Recently we started getting complaints about speed issues (90% are using G 10% N). Upon investigating we found that the speeds are fluctuating rapidly. Everything from 54Mbps down to 1Mbps and back up again. I've confirmed that this will happen while standing next to an AP (and confirming connectivity to it), however I cannot find anything wrong or anything that has changed with our configuration. We are a large facility and it is happening all over the campus, so I'm fairly certain it isn't any type of 'normal' interference.
