I have 2 ethernet cards (1 on board & another PCI ), 1 switch & 1 static ip to connet my broadband connection. I connected the broadband cable to onboard ethernet & configured the ip,subnet mask, gateway, DNS1 & DNS2. Internet connection was established. I also established an another cable between PCI ethernet card and switch. I configured the 2nd card to ip 192.168.1.1 . But when I tried to share a connection, my internet stopped to work.

The client has its IP address set automatically by the HOMENET wireless router, along with a manually set gateway address to route internet signals through the host computer rather through the router. I am new to Windows 7 and have not been able to set up the client to see or share files between the host and client when connected by wireless. When connected by a LAN connection to the router, I can see both computers and share files between them, but have not been able to connect to the internet. The Win 7 machine can connect directly to RESNET and access the internet that way but the incoming signal averages about 45% which is far below the level needed for acceptable use.
Using D-Link DIR 600 wireless router with my desktop CPU (Windows XP Professional SP1) using wired connection and Dell laptop (Windows 7 Ultimate) connected wirelessly. My problem is that I am able to access internet on both systems but they cannot see each other in network places. I am unable to share files between the them. I have tried all the procedures mentioned in many forums but still not able to find a solution. I use Kaspersky Internet security and made chages to my firewall as per the instructions from their support forum.

View 14 Replies View Relatedi have 2 dell computers (and more but just worried about these two for now)... mainpc and sparepc, i had sparepc hooked to my tv and all pc's in the house, and a tv, networked to it... it all worked great, after a few minutes of setting it up... and then the hard drive crashed on spare pc and i got a new one, installed windows again both pc's use the same installation disk both pc's are hooked to a workswitch, which is hooked to a uverse gateway (router)... but it should be noted that hooking everything to wireless changes nothing... i get the same results can reach out to anything in the house and network great... but nothing can connect to sparepc... it keeps asking for username/password, even tho none is set I've gone through all the file sharing, homegroup, and folder options... ive reset ownership on folders and permissions... ive tried making/changing user profiles... but i cannot get from mainpc to sparepc home group does not work because the network does not work. as soon as the network works, homegroup will spring to life (at least, thats what happened the last time) if i right click on a folder, go to properties, share tab, and hit the share button... it asks for permissions for users... i set them, hit share, and it comes up and says, "you cant share this folder" ... with no explanation

1 - everything on the Internet went VERY slow and call to my ISP resulted in a new router.
2 - I also subscribed to McAfee Home Protect through my ISP rather than ther free AVG.
Since then, I have been unable to share the files on my desktop with my netbook; it can not see them on My Network Places.
every once in awhile we have a machine that seems to just lose the ability to access network shares and networked printers. The way I have been "fixing" the issue is to join a workgroup temporarily and restart computer and rejoin the domain.
I understand this is probably not the best fix available, but I am not sure what is causing the problem and/or what a better solution to this problem is.
why this happens and how best to solve this without just rejoining the domain?

There is an RJ45 jack on the wall I am I able to use internet normally when using an Ethernet cable.However, I can't share the connection wirelessly. I have a Buffalo ADSL Modem/router which I would like to use to share the connection. The first time I plugged the cable into one of the 4 LAN slot, I was able to browse wirelessly but after a few minutes it stopped working and has not worked ever since. Could it be some kind of restriction on their part?Is there any special configuration settings to share my connection in such a way? Here is what we are trying to do: (server names have been changed to protect the innocent, etc.)3 servers at 3 different locations - all running Server 2008 R2 and all on the same domain
setup:
server01 (has the print server role and printers are shared out)
server02 (has the print server role and printers are shared out)
terminal_server (a terminal server)
We have printers on server01 and on server02 that we need to install on terminal_server.The printers install just fine onto terminal_server from server01 when browsing and connecting or opening the shared printers.
The printers on server02 give thes error message when trying to connect to or open them from terminal_server:"The operation could not be completed (error 0x00000709). Double check and make sure that the printer is connected to the network."However, the printers from server02 will install and work just fine IF I install them as IP printers.
I have between 8 and 10 computers on my home LAN. They are split between the default workgroup name 'WORKGROUP' and the name I have assigned to my home LAN.There is a mixture of Win XP, Win 7 32 & 64 and various levels of Ubuntu.
After 6 long days of trying I have made not one step forward in allowing file/printer sharing.The Windows machines are all running Comodo Internet Security, on one of which I have created my idea of a set of rules to allow file/print sharing.The Windows XP machine, with a user created set of firewall rules,can see no computers on the network (using My Network Places), aside from itself and the shares created on it.It cannot see the computers which are not in the workgroup.
The most common error message this computer generates is 'network path not found'. A win 7 32 bit computer, in the workgroup, can see all other computers that are in the workgroup, including itself, twice.It cannot access any shares on the Linux computers. It is able to access shares on the Windows XP computer.ufw Firewall is installed and enabled on one Linux machine and has a vaguely similar set of file/print sharing rules.That machine can see nothing at the Network place.A couple of hours ago it could see the machines that are NOT in my workgroup but could not see the machines that are!
Another linux computer can see the two workgroups (named and default) within the windows network, but cannot browse either workgroup. The most common error message from sharing attempts with the Linux machines is 'unable to mount location. Failed to retrieve share list from server'.Right now I am reduced to transferring USB sticks between adjacent computers....
I have a desktop (winXP) and a laptop (Win Vista) connected to a E1000 router. When they are both connected to the E1000 via cat 5 cable I can share files and directorys with no problems. When I connect the laptop via WiFi I am unable to share files. In fact I cannot ping the laptop from the desktop or the desktop from the laptop. It is like the AP Isolation is on but I have checked that setting and it is off.

my power supply was fried in a storm a while back so i swapped it with another power supply, but the power supply i put in is 20pin while my board is 24. the computer runs fine but i cant connect to the internet. im assuming the pci slots arent being powered so network card isnt working, or the network card is shot. regardless, no matter which port i plug an ethernet into it wont recognize its there. my laptop works fine but is terribly slow and not good for gaming. is there any possible way i could use my laptop to connect my desktop to the internet without an ethernet cable?

My phone and other laptops in the house are all connected to the router with no dramas. I've currently connected my PC (which has no wireless card) to my laptop via Ethernet cable and allowed all the internet sharing settings with the hopes of using the internet on my PC (I've done this successfully in the past but it's not working now for some reason). The LAN network is Unidentified and as such won't let a connection pass from laptop to PC. Used the diagnose function on the LAN network and got this message: "Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration".
