Now I can't get internet at all even if I move it back to the front! My network doesn't show up under connections. Jan 31, 2013I am running an ASUS laptop with Windows 7. My wireless has been working fine, but my room is quite far from the router, so I bought a signal-booster USB aerial made by Realtek (REALTEK 11n USB Wireless LAN Driver and Utility). It came with a small software CD too which I installed, and it worked fine for two days and boosted my wireless signal.However (you knew it was coming, the story can't stay happy) soon the red light on the USB booster stopped blinking and it showed the red 'x' where my wifi connections are. I couldn't get it to re-establish a connection without doing a full system restore and re-installing the USB signal booster, which would then work again for a short amount of time (maybe a day, maybe an hour). And worse, now when the USB booster is unplugged from the computer my laptop will not return to recognising wireless connections like it did before I installed the USB signal booster. It simply does not find any connections - the only time it does is directly after I have re-installed the software from the small disc which came with the Realtek USB signal booster.
I have now uninstalled the Software and anything made by Realtek but still it is finding no connections.Now I would just like to find a way to get back to where I started when my computer was finding all wireless connections like normal... a connection with a weak signal is better than this nightmare of constantly restoring my computer just to get a brief connection
Realtek Rtl8190 Wifi Connection Breaks Sometimes When A Session Is Started
Jun 17, 2012I have had intermittent problems with this PCI 802.11n adapter since I installed it. There isn't a new driver available, so that's not a solution. Issue is despite a strong signal, WiFi connection breaks sometimes when a session (either e-mail or browser) is started.The bar signal indicator goes from 5 bars to none, and mouse-over shows "no connection." About half the time the PC locks up (frozen cursor, no response to ctrl-alt-del, etc.).some of the time, the PC recovers after several minutes or more, other times locks up completely and the PC must be either forced reset or powered down manually. I've run CC Cleaner and check out the registry but can't find anything that works. PC is a 2.4GHz Celeron 1GB RAM running WinXP SP3 with all updates.Not related to browser; behavior is the same with Firefox, Chrome, IE. Also, other PCs on same network have no issues.On occasion I've triggered the lock-up while I had performance monitor running, and in the cases where the machine resumed running by itself, history showed no overloads typical of lock-ups. This PC is used almost exclusively for basic e-mail and browsing.

I currently have Avast Internet Security installed and I have tried to uninstall the Avast software as I wish to change my antivirus software. I have tried uninstalling in safe mode using the Avast Clear utility. Unfortunately after using this utility the Avast program still remains on my hard drive in Program Files which I then have to delete manually. After doing so and restarting my computer I have no internet connection and the only way I can restore my internet connection is by copying the Avast program back into my Program Files.

I am aware that the university blocks torrenting which I am totally fine with though when I try to carry out a process such as posting a large entry on Livejournal.com or Dreamwidth.org, it tries to load for a couple seconds and then fails. When in Google Chrome, it says that it's "uploaded 100%" but then I receive "Error 7 (net::ERR_TIMED_OUT): The operation timed out.". When using Internet Explorer, it either doesn't load at all or I get the standard "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". When I try to carry out a different process on dreamwidth and livejournal (editing my layout), Chrome tells me "Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): The connection was reset." These issues always happen no matter when I try them.

Specifically, I don't have the CD-ROM I originally must have used, and the following message is popping up: "Files Needed - The file 'atl02_2k.sys' on Atlansic Fast Ethernet Adapter Installation Disk is needed. Type the path where the file is located and then click OK." Unfortunately, I don't have any idea if there is a path where this is located, so installation cannot complete.
The reason I took this option to begin with was that the wireless connection on my laptop [Asus, Windows XP] was acquiring network address without ever connecting fully to the internet. I had previously tried another of other methods, such as manually entering an IP address, to no avail.

Apr 26, 2011I'm using a XP sp3 machine,dial-up. Was hoping to get connected to open/allowed wifi connection. Did some research, and a ALFA AWUS036h USB adapter looked like the one, good reviews.When I first plugged in and loaded software, it worked great as far as seeing 10-12 connections, and even showed as connected with strong signal on one open/allowed connection, but wasn't connected.Seems like the software doesn't run good, worked at first and I had netstumbler installed and 8-10 stations were showing there also,but after a reboot had no stations on mfg software, none on netstumbler, and never would show stations on XP Zero config., seemes the software got screwy after reboot.

Jun 26, 2012I'm part of a Tech Support department of 50 located along the Gulf Coast. In years past we have found hurricanes and other disasters may have forced Engineers to work from home or out of hotel rooms for several weeks. Since that time we are now using VoIP phones that require a power over Ethernet (PoE) LAN connection. Along with the phone we already have an external power brick that we can take home that supplies the PoE LAN connection. However, that requires that you have access to the router so you can run a physical cable from the router to the power brick.
That's fine when you are at your own house and have access to your own router. But in the case of a hotel, you can't run a cable to the router. Many hotels have gone to wireless only and don't have a physical LAN jack to plug into. So I've been looking at something like the Netgear WNCE3001 Dual-Band Internet Adapter. That will supply a physical LAN connection from WiFi only. But it does not have PoE. So now if we are going to work from a hotel room, we need the VoIp phone, the power brick and the WiFi Internet adapter. 3 seperate items to lug around.
Is there such a device that would allow you to pickup a WiFi signal in a hotel room and has a physical LAN jack that is also capable of PoE? I could at least lose the power brick then.

Airlink+ 802.11g 2.0 (old) Works with XP but not on W7 (blinks)
WifiMAX Dongle 802.11g 2.0 (also old) (Sometimes blinks at intervals)
TrendNET TEW-644UB (bought last year) (Light stays on/no longer blinks)
Netgear WNA3100 (arrived just a few hours ago) (I made it blink now with its software)
I have tried(netgear):
-rebooting
-installing/uninstalling drivers
-uninstalling itunes
-Using a W8 procedure for it
-tried using different software
-Some other stuff
I have not tried a HKEY codes for it My biggest problem is that the "Disabled" status is stuck and I cannot re-enable it. If there is a way to override this I would be happy to hear it. Using: Windows7 Ultimate Gigabyte Motherboard/AMD chipset For the only one that is enabled(Airlink) it has some funny stuff on the status like 412 Gbps and doesn't have ipv4/6 connectivity [URL]
