Wireless Connections Have Disappeared Since Installing Realtek Usb Wifi Booster?
Jan 31, 2013
I am running an ASUS laptop with Windows 7. My wireless has been working fine, but my room is quite far from the router, so I bought a signal-booster USB aerial made by Realtek (REALTEK 11n USB Wireless LAN Driver and Utility). It came with a small software CD too which I installed, and it worked fine for two days and boosted my wireless signal. However (you knew it was coming, the story can't stay happy) soon the red light on the USB booster stopped blinking and it showed the red 'x' where my wifi connections are. I couldn't get it to re-establish a connection without doing a full system restore and re-installing the USB signal booster, which would then work again for a short amount of time (maybe a day, maybe an hour). And worse, now when the USB booster is unplugged from the computer my laptop will not return to recognising wireless connections like it did before I installed the USB signal booster. It simply does not find any connections - the only time it does is directly after I have re-installed the software from the small disc which came with the Realtek USB signal booster.
I have now uninstalled the Software and anything made by Realtek but still it is finding no connections. Now I would just like to find a way to get back to where I started when my computer was finding all wireless connections like normal... a connection with a weak signal is better than this nightmare of constantly restoring my computer just to get a brief connection

Got 1 Linksys WRT54G Router on the ground floor which uses PTCL DSL Internet and 1 D-Link Wireless N Gigabit Router on the first floor which uses World Call Cable Internet of my house. So yeah we have two internet connections.Getting weak signals from both of the routers in my room on the far left side of the house and little to no signals in the basementSo what I want to ask is that should I purchase better routers or should I go with a signal booster of some sorts like an Access Point or a Range Extender? Also is there such a device which would catch signals from both of these differently configured routers ( different internets, different wireless security keys etc ) and then boost them throughout the house if placed in an area where both the router signals are strong?

I have a laptop with a Bigfoot 1103 n wifi card and up til now it has been working perfect for our location.cWe had to move our office down a few doors and now we get NO reception at all. My laptop will pick up the network momentarily then loose the signal. My question is : how to boost reception?I have no access to the modem or router either. Do they make a decent booster that I can plug in my usb that will work with my current wifi card?

I have a Wi-Fi booster that can connect to remote distance networks, and I want to share the Wireless Networks that the booster connects to all the local computers in its range (maybe in Ad-Hoc?). The computer that has the booster has it's own separate built-in Wi-Fi.
For example, the booster gets a signal from Wi-Fi network A, and I want Network A to be broadcast to the computers who can't receive Network A's signal. I really don't mind how this is done, preferably without having to buy new hardware.

I have had intermittent problems with this PCI 802.11n adapter since I installed it. There isn't a new driver available, so that's not a solution. Issue is despite a strong signal, WiFi connection breaks sometimes when a session (either e-mail or browser) is started. The bar signal indicator goes from 5 bars to none, and mouse-over shows "no connection." About half the time the PC locks up (frozen cursor, no response to ctrl-alt-del, etc.).some of the time, the PC recovers after several minutes or more, other times locks up completely and the PC must be either forced reset or powered down manually. I've run CC Cleaner and check out the registry but can't find anything that works. PC is a 2.4GHz Celeron 1GB RAM running WinXP SP3 with all updates. Not related to browser; behavior is the same with Firefox, Chrome, IE. Also, other PCs on same network have no issues. On occasion I've triggered the lock-up while I had performance monitor running, and in the cases where the machine resumed running by itself, history showed no overloads typical of lock-ups. This PC is used almost exclusively for basic e-mail and browsing.

When we got broadband through our cable provider (Comcast), we were sold a single user license even though we were explicitly connecting two computers.Upgrading to a multi-user subscription (for up to 5 connections) solved that.I'm currently trying to configure 4 computers to connect. I have noticed that if a configuration for one has WPA and another has WPA-2 they will bump. This may be true for differences in WEP-keys, TKIP setting, etc. If you do new configurations, the settings may revert each time to a default, which you may not notice.Keeping the network settings matched may work. Using a portable memory device to run a saved configuration on each machine can improve their synchronization.

I'm out in the middle of nowhere and just set up a few days ago a WRT54G2 V1 wireless 4-port router a family member had laying around. I had no problem getting it working and running. About an hour ago I noticed I wasn't picking up the wireless with my cell phone and went to check it on my laptop, I had no wireless connections available. It wasn't my adapter or anything since I know there are no other connections out where I am. I went to reset the router and found it had taken issue with that. Once I powered everything back on the router stopped responding and became "stuck" in an annoying state. It doesn't respond to the reset button, unplugging and replugging, nothing. Whether the internet was plugged in or not it will not move past what it's doing now.

i have decided to take on the 3G strategy by using some powerful equipment to boost my 3G and obtain internet access, (accessible no problem)however in my "kit" includes a huwaii mifi device which i will be using along with a crc9 to connect to my military spec booster to pick up 3G and get better internet speeds than anyone in the area.problem i have is with the mifi router, it has small wireless range.i have a strong transmitter to use with my standard router, now what i want to do is bridge the mifi with a a/g/n router and all devices connect to the router that will provide better coverage due to the 3g kit and mifi will be very close together in the roof space and away from the other devices on ground floor.can i bridge mifi with a wireless router so connections will run through the lets say, belkin router.

I am moving my office from one side of the house to the other which has real spotty wireless coverage. Most likely I will not be able to move the modem or wireless router, so I have to somehow increase the range.I did some research and poking around on forums, but I can't find a clear cut, number 1. What you think would be the best option to pair with the DIR-655.

1. What is the best wireless adapter to use so my other desktops will be able to access the router?
2. What is the distance of signal before I need a signal booster and if I do need to boos the signal, what is the best device to do that? (we stream video, music, light gaming and general internet applications).

I can usually figure stuff out for myself when it comes to computers, but to be honest I'm baffled. My HP 620 notebook wireless LAN has completely disappeared. I can no longer select anything to do with a wireless network, and it has also disappeared from the HP Wireless Assistant (which only has bluetooth on it - disabled by windows device manager?).
Anywho I did a quick internet search and it seems a pretty common problem with the HP series, and followed some advice they gave...
1) Did all the basic things (e.g. try and find a wireless network right click enable etc.)
2) Uninstalled/Reinstalled wireless assistant
3) Did some power off 30 second BIOS reset or something (literally have no idea what this is just followed advice)
4) I BELIEVE (note that this is way past my knowledge of computers) that I uninstalled the network adapter devices and reinstalled them on restart.
5) Finally I literally just took my laptop apart and took out, cleaned and replaced the wireless thingy
So all of this had no affect on my wireless LAN mysteriously disappearing. For those unfamiliar with the HP 620 it has a wireless on/off toggle button which is bright blue when working. Now however it is permanently orange and wireless has completely disappeared.

Ive just formatted both my hard drives and reinstalled win 7. Before this, my wireless connection was working just fine and after everything was complete with the win 7 installation a wireless connection cannot be detected. However, plugging an ethernet cable in allows me to access the internet just fine. I can also use the internet wireless'ly via my laptop, so its not a problem with my actual internet connection. After reinstalling I put my Gigabyte motherboard CD into the computer which ran some auto installations, one of which being a driver 'Realtek 8111/8168 LAN driver for gigabit (Win 7).' This didnt make any difference and I still could not access wireless internet. The list of component parts I got when I ordered my computer lists a '802.11N 300mbps PCI Wireless Network Card,' but no further info on make or model.

There are three other laptops in the house which can still detect that wireless network and connect to it except that one now. I have restarted that laptop and the network reappeared and it connected. But when it was restarted again, the network showed just for a minute or so and the laptop cannot connect and then the network disappears. It all started when I wanted to add security to my wireless router (Linksys wireless-g 2.4ghz, 802.11g). Every time my IT guy tried to add the security, the tabs to enter the info would disappear. Since we'd been having trouble with this router for years, I bought a Linksys E4200 wireless-N router. He set it up, my son's laptop works beautifully (no he didn't do anything to his laptop except turn it on, and yes, I am sending this message via my son's laptop). Both of my laptops, however, are a mess. The IP address has disappeared (0.0.0.0), and after running all night, still cannot be found. My IT guy is absolutely baffled as to why this is happening. Before the router installation could be completed, he had to disable my Dell wireless network. He restarted it after the router connection was completed. Everything looks fine, but neither of my laptops will connect to the server, because THERE IS NO IP ADDRESS FOR EITHER OF THEM.

I have an Advent 5421 with Vista installed, it's nearly 3 years old and I have a few problems with it, but nothing too terrible, until yesterdy when I switched it on and found the wireless connection has mysteriously disappeared. When I try to connect it says there are no networks to connect to, which is obviously bollocks. The internet will now only work if I plug the cable in, which is no good as I share a flat with 2 other girls and if I do that, they lose their connection. I don't understand whats happened. I really am not computer literate at all, the only thing I tried was to make sure I had the latest software updates for my computer, which I did, but nothing happened.
