Use Wifi Booster To Boost Weak Signals In Network?
Feb 9, 2011
I have a Wi-Fi booster that can connect to remote distance networks, and I want to share the Wireless Networks that the booster connects to all the local computers in its range (maybe in Ad-Hoc?). The computer that has the booster has it's own separate built-in Wi-Fi.
For example, the booster gets a signal from Wi-Fi network A, and I want Network A to be broadcast to the computers who can't receive Network A's signal. I really don't mind how this is done, preferably without having to buy new hardware.

For my network the way it is setup is one building has the 2 main servers.simple wireless router and a few laptop that connect to it. a Wii and some other devices, all of them share media etc with no issue. Internet is not a problem either. One of the servers has a PCI wireless card and connects to another network.(network2)network 2 is able to share and play all the media off the service lets say 80% of the time.It also has a different internet provider and internet connection is not a problem but the wireless signal strength is low , (2 bars) or -55 to -82 it seams to jump around at.If you try to stream or play too much media it freezes on you. or if 2 devices on network 2 try to play something it freezes as well sometimes though when the signal is good -55 ish there is no issues. There is alot of wireless traffic in the area, i cant change that.and dont really want to buy a ranger extender or something $20 is what I have for parts if anything. If I were to put a 2nd wireless card in server 2 or Server 1 even. Also both the wireless router on network 2 and the pci card on server 2 are physically as close as hey can get.

My company gets horrible service for our company-provided AT&T iphones. So, at this time - I am looking for microcells to boost our AT&T signal. We currently have some macrocell in place, but the problem is that its authentication-based. I want every person - whether its an executive, guest, thief, bystander, WHOMEVER to get a better AT&T signal when they step into our office building.

So I just got this router in hopes that I would get a better signal within my room as opposed to my older router. Unfortunately, nothing has changed, in fact I think I'm getting weaker signals. My previous router was a D-Link WBR-2310. I went to speed test.net and tested 3 variables. My wifi on my desktop in my room, my wifi when right next to a router on my laptop, and my wifi using my neighbors wifi in my room.
My room Desktop Wifi:
Download was 0.50 mbs Upload: 3.6
My laptop right next to Router:
Download 19.87 mbs Upload: 3.5
My room Desktop Neighbors Wifi:
Download was 17.3 mbs Upload was 3.32.
What is the point of this new wireless N router, when it can't beat a G router older model in reach? And why does is have a 0.50 mb d/l speed but a 3.6 upload speed?

I know you can buy wifi boosters but have also heard you can use a hub to boost Wi-Fi? I currently have a bt home hub 2.0 and the spare hub is a netgear fs605uk (I think - it's the white one if you type this into google images).

I have a laptop with a Bigfoot 1103 n wifi card and up til now it has been working perfect for our location.cWe had to move our office down a few doors and now we get NO reception at all. My laptop will pick up the network momentarily then loose the signal. My question is : how to boost reception?I have no access to the modem or router either. Do they make a decent booster that I can plug in my usb that will work with my current wifi card?

I am running an ASUS laptop with Windows 7. My wireless has been working fine, but my room is quite far from the router, so I bought a signal-booster USB aerial made by Realtek (REALTEK 11n USB Wireless LAN Driver and Utility). It came with a small software CD too which I installed, and it worked fine for two days and boosted my wireless signal. However (you knew it was coming, the story can't stay happy) soon the red light on the USB booster stopped blinking and it showed the red 'x' where my wifi connections are. I couldn't get it to re-establish a connection without doing a full system restore and re-installing the USB signal booster, which would then work again for a short amount of time (maybe a day, maybe an hour). And worse, now when the USB booster is unplugged from the computer my laptop will not return to recognising wireless connections like it did before I installed the USB signal booster. It simply does not find any connections - the only time it does is directly after I have re-installed the software from the small disc which came with the Realtek USB signal booster.
I have now uninstalled the Software and anything made by Realtek but still it is finding no connections. Now I would just like to find a way to get back to where I started when my computer was finding all wireless connections like normal... a connection with a weak signal is better than this nightmare of constantly restoring my computer just to get a brief connection

Got 1 Linksys WRT54G Router on the ground floor which uses PTCL DSL Internet and 1 D-Link Wireless N Gigabit Router on the first floor which uses World Call Cable Internet of my house. So yeah we have two internet connections.Getting weak signals from both of the routers in my room on the far left side of the house and little to no signals in the basementSo what I want to ask is that should I purchase better routers or should I go with a signal booster of some sorts like an Access Point or a Range Extender? Also is there such a device which would catch signals from both of these differently configured routers ( different internets, different wireless security keys etc ) and then boost them throughout the house if placed in an area where both the router signals are strong?

Is there a way to boost the signal so I can get wifi from across the house or any other way to get an internet connection without several fifty foot wires going across the house?

I bought TP-link wireless repeaters which i have failed trying to setup to an eircom zyxel dsl modem (ISP provided modem)i set it up as a universal repeater and had it auto latch on to the eircom modem but it just doesnt seem to boost the signal.i have turned all encryption and this doesnt work either. I have setup this situation using a netgear dsl modem and a netgear wireless router which if i remember i made a mac bridge, and it works great..am i wasting my time trying to get a TP-link talking to a cheap isp modem? i was reading an article somebody wrote that was doing the same thing yet the modem wasnt the same as mine, they said they got it working using WDS...and that the tp-link doesnt know about WDS and you need to use telnet to change settings on the tp-link looked a real hassle anyway.

Just to mention, there is a lot of traffic passing at all times of the day and night. Busy highway. Is there a way I can boost my wifi signal without buying an actual wifi booster?

I run a small motel and having trouble with Wifi signal reaching the 2nd floor rooms sufficiently. I have heard of the terminology and it's quite daunting... you have wifi booster, access point, range expanders, repeaters, bridges...etc. Do I need one of booster/expanders/repeaters for each floor? The property is a L shape, the router is in the office on the short side.

I am researching power adapters versus range extenders to bring the best signal to a new home theater so I can stream Netflix. I don't do much else (gaming etc...) and am not a tech person. I just want to enjoy movies in an area of my house that gets little or no signal. Didi I waste my money buying smart? Can I still do an ethernet connection off the power adapter? Should I put another router there instead--- off the adapter- so I can use the theaters wifi?

I got Fios installed this week. Router is the Actiontec MI424, it sits int he living room. I ran a speed test of the wifi on my laptop in the living room, and the internet speeds were great. Here's my problem. I'm in a 2 br condo, not a huge place maybe like 1200 Sq feet, same floor. Wifi is awesome in the living room, but in the bedroom it hangs. I still have a signal, varying for low to good, but it takes forever to open a web page, to the point where you can't use the internet. Bedroom is just down the hall.I called Verizon. They told me they can only guarantee the wifi signal 10 feet from the router, after that no promises. My frustration is that with my previous provider, which was giving me a slower internet connection, my wifi in the bedroom was fine and the router was in the exact same spot. Of course I used my own router? I know there are instructions on connecting my old router to the fios one and using my old router for wifi.
