Wireless :: Signals Are Weak For Large Data?
Oct 6, 2012
For my network the way it is setup is one building has the 2 main servers.simple wireless router and a few laptop that connect to it. a Wii and some other devices, all of them share media etc with no issue. Internet is not a problem either. One of the servers has a PCI wireless card and connects to another network.(network2)network 2 is able to share and play all the media off the service lets say 80% of the time.It also has a different internet provider and internet connection is not a problem but the wireless signal strength is low , (2 bars) or -55 to -82 it seams to jump around at.If you try to stream or play too much media it freezes on you. or if 2 devices on network 2 try to play something it freezes as well sometimes though when the signal is good -55 ish there is no issues. There is alot of wireless traffic in the area, i cant change that.and dont really want to buy a ranger extender or something $20 is what I have for parts if anything. If I were to put a 2nd wireless card in server 2 or Server 1 even. Also both the wireless router on network 2 and the pci card on server 2 are physically as close as hey can get.

So I just got this router in hopes that I would get a better signal within my room as opposed to my older router. Unfortunately, nothing has changed, in fact I think I'm getting weaker signals. My previous router was a D-Link WBR-2310. I went to speed test.net and tested 3 variables. My wifi on my desktop in my room, my wifi when right next to a router on my laptop, and my wifi using my neighbors wifi in my room.
My room Desktop Wifi:
Download was 0.50 mbs Upload: 3.6
My laptop right next to Router:
Download 19.87 mbs Upload: 3.5
My room Desktop Neighbors Wifi:
Download was 17.3 mbs Upload was 3.32.
What is the point of this new wireless N router, when it can't beat a G router older model in reach? And why does is have a 0.50 mb d/l speed but a 3.6 upload speed?

I have a Wi-Fi booster that can connect to remote distance networks, and I want to share the Wireless Networks that the booster connects to all the local computers in its range (maybe in Ad-Hoc?). The computer that has the booster has it's own separate built-in Wi-Fi.
For example, the booster gets a signal from Wi-Fi network A, and I want Network A to be broadcast to the computers who can't receive Network A's signal. I really don't mind how this is done, preferably without having to buy new hardware.

My setup is as follows:
Linksys E2500 as DHCP client, all default network settings (MTU auto configured to 1500), connected to:
ZTE 831 II ADSL2+ modem in bridged mode
The issue is that whenever any large file is downloaded over HTTP, the download stops after about 4 minutes and never resumes. This results in:
1) HTTP downloads of anything > ~80 MB failing; tried using several browsers and CURL, all with the same results
2) iOS downloads in iTunes timing out
3) YouTube videos stalling every few minutes
Interestingly, Netflix streaming works OK. Perhaps that's because the protocol for Netflix is not a single large download but a bunch of smaller ones, but that's conjecture.
This all occurs over both wireless and wired connections to the E2500.
If I connect my Mac directly to the ZTE modem, I don't have the problem.

I'm looking for some software for copying large amounts of data from a Mac OS X machine to a Windows 7 machine over a Cat5e cable with IPv4 connectivity?
Another way I could ask this question is what IPv4 protocol will have the lowest overhead so that I may copy large amounts of data the fastest?
Also, would that mean it's a low-level protocol, like transport layer?

I currently have a WAP4410N connected to an ethernet switch and the signal is very weak when attempting to connect to the AP from 4 rooms away. The structure is all block and the signal does not do well between the solid walls. I would like to roam from room to room on the same SSID. how to have the second WAP4410N repeat the original signal and reaplify it from the first WAP to solve this issue. Also, I cannot connect the second WAP to the ethernet switch it must be wireless.

A while ago I replaced my wireless card, and the new one get's considerably weaker signal strength and drops out periodically. I'm sure the problem is with the card itself (or its firmware). It not only get's weak signal strength from my router, but every surrounding network, and sometimes can't detect any networks for a few minutes. I've used several other wi-fi devices in the same spot where this system is sitting and they all get excellent signal strength.I've already tried changing channels on my router and re-installing drivers. Neither has any effect. The card in question is a TP-Link TL-WN951N.

I used BT previously without any problems but now use Orange and now using the Internet downstairs is useless(weird flat configuration). The router is upstairs, next to TV(same location as the BT router). I dont know why the wireless Internet signal has become very weak. The only way I can use the Internet if I sit a few feet from the router. Even then, streaming videos on youtube still takes a while compared to BT. This affects all devices using wireless connection - even my Iphone is useless when used downstairs.
Signal interferance/ hacking? Router? Wireless adapter is up to date.

My wireless network signal is great on the first floor, but is weak on the second floor. I have tried different antennas and various locations for the antennas, but with little improvement. I prefer not to purchase signal amplifier. I have a second identical router. Can it be connected to the current router (LAN output) and by way of a cat5 cable, placed on the second floor to boost the second floor wireless signal?

I had an XP machine using a wired connection with a Linksys WRT54GS 2.4GHz router. The only things connecting to it wireless were my wii and my PS3 which were in the next room, less than 15feet away. I purchased a Windows 7 machine for my wife for Christmas, and gave the XP machine to my kids. I moved the modem and router into the kids playroom, and set the Windows 7 machine up for wireless. Now the router is at one end of the house, and the 7 machine is about 45 feet away. The signal strength was never an issue until last week, and now the PS3 and the Win7 machine constantly have weak signal or no signal. I don't know a whole lot about networking. I am willing to move the router and modem to a central location as a last resort, but would like to keep them with the XP machine for our kids to use.

Got a new e1000 after a RMA. The new unit has a very weak wifi signal. I've tried all different channels. It is running in mixed mode. No microwave, blue-tooth or other noise. 4 feet from the router and the signal is down to -90db. Take a few more steps away and the connection is lost.

I bought the WMP600N because Linksys and Microsoft listed it as 'compatible' for Windows 7 x64. My experience:
- unstable and weak connection
- pings to websites like google.com drops, average: 1 out of 3
- low signal, on the same spot my three years old HP-laptop with 'a build in wireless card' has full signal strength in Windows 7
- it works well under Windows XP (32 bit)
I am convinced that drivers for the WMP600N are not ready for Window 7 x64. Linksys (or Ralink, which developed the chipset), release a proper driver for the WMP600N.

I have a Linksys E1000 router. The macbook is getting great signal even out in the yard. The PC running Windows 7 and using an AE1000 wireless adapter is only getting 2 bars out of 5. I don't think there's any interference. I can't figure out why the signal strength is so poor.

2、client pc cannot get ip from connected router
these error perhaps happened after a plug power jack action. Dc-dc chip is ME5513,the voltage on its pin4 is about 11.94V,and the voltage on following electrolytic capacitor is 3.3V,its seem normal.

deploying a large wireless network (about 14 access points) spread across 9 buildings that are in relative close proximity to each other. I have included a picture with a rough scale (it's editable, so feel free to play around with it). Anyways, here is the basic idea. I do basic IT consulting for small businesses and some friends of mine work for an apartment complex in my local area. They came to me with this idea of deploying a wireless network on the campus to provide their tenants with "free" basic wireless internet. Basic meaning, not intended to be a replacement for a private connection. But suitable for basic web browsing, school work (I live in a university town), and email. So I got to scratching my head and quickly realized that I need to dome some learning and refresh on my skills.

I am trying to set up a network that is over a larger area than I am use to. I have experience setting up wired networks for small and medium sized businesses, as well as setting up multiple access points to cover a larger area. My goal is to set up a work site trailer to provide wireless coverage for a farmer's field. The largest distance I am dealing with is a half a mile. Depending on the field the direction the signal ranges from 90 to 180 degrees. My problem is my lack of experience with the hardware to accomplish this. I am trying to figure out what is the easiest cheapest and most reliable way to accomplish this. Currently my plan is to use a Cisco WAP4410N access point and hooking it up to multiple high gain unidirectional antennas. Is there a reliable website out there to accomplish this without wasting money on trial and error? I don't like starting a project before can this be accomplished? What should I be looking for in an antenna? How many degrees offset should they be? What kind of wire should I be running from the antenna to the access point?

I am trying to brainstorm some ideas for the best wireless set up in a house that is 2 stories and 8500 SQ Feet. The house is wired with ethernet jacks.
Option 1. ASUS RT-N66U and Hawking Hi-Gain HWREN1
Option 2. Two Apple Airport Extreme's at either end of the house.
Option 3. Asus RT-N66U and Linksys WRT54G (DD-WRT Firmware).
What about the placement of the equipment? Should there be one router/access point on each floor or just two at either end of the house.

We have a fairly new Asus laptop and for some reason we can't get the wireless to turn on any more.It has a Function button method to turn it on and off and any time you use this button it shows the WLAN simple with a red line through it. No matter how many times you press it it does the same thing.I've tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling, ran a security update for the drivers. When I go into the wireless connection and try and turn it on it shows that it has a signal (not sure what to) but a red X next to the connection in windows 7. I can't actually see any wireless signals so I'm kind of at a loss.

For quite some time now my parents' wireless internet cannot seem to keep a wireless signal anywhere in the house unless you are sitting next to the router. I've been doing everything I know to try and keep the signal strong enough to use it down the hall in the living room.
I've tried using different frequencies and channels however this only seems to work for an hour then the network will fall off the network list entirely and then a few minutes later will pop back in. What is causing this signal to die out completely every few minutes? They've tried countless numbers of wireless routers in hopes it would fix the problem however this never seems to work. Is this an issue with the ISP and/or the modem they provide us? Wired connections work fine, just wireless connections refuse to either stay up or constantly disconnect the user from the network.

I have a 1 year old Netgear DG834PN. Everything is functioning perfectly EXCEPT for my wireless. There is no green (yellow) light on the modum itself. The tech support guys have spent time with me but without success. Loads of excuses from them.I am connected by ethernet cable and everything works fine but I have sustained a back injury and desperately need to get the wireless functioning.I can access the Netgear smart wizard page - originally I had a blank page on "wireless page".. I downloaded the latest upgrade and still had the same issues.changed computers and now I can access the wireless page settings. All seems good there but still cannot get the modum to boot with a wireless signal.

I've got a home network running on a Linksys WRT150-N router. The network consists of 2 desktops running Windows XP SP3, and a laptop running Windows 7. I am able to transfer various files without a problem between and among all machines, EXCEPT when those files are beyond a certain size (less than 1 MB or so transfers fine). Most of my photos are in the 2 MB - 3 MB range, so I have to run around like an idiot with a thumb drive to transfer them.
Is there anything I can adjust on my router or for my network settings that will allow me to share larger files?
Additional Details The error message I get is different for Windows 7 or XP. On the remote XP machine, it says "Cannot copy filename: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected, and that the file is not currently in use." Obviously, none of those conditions is true.
More random symptoms:
It seems that the problem is limited to JPG files, and appears to be affecting only the vast repository where I keep all my photos. I've got all my photos stored in a main directory, then in sub-directories by Year, then by Date. e.g. PHOTOS 2011 2011_12_25
Moreover, this problem does NOT appear to have much to do with file size. Some large files will copy, while others will not.
It's very random. Some sub-folders are filled with readable pictures, while others are unreadable. But this follows no discernible pattern based on file date -- and they were all taken with the same camera. Smaller files seem to always be readable, even when larger ones in the same directory are.
