My wireless network signal is great on the first floor, but is weak on the second floor. I have tried different antennas and various locations for the antennas, but with little improvement. I prefer not to purchase signal amplifier. I have a second identical router. Can it be connected to the current router (LAN output) and by way of a cat5 cable, placed on the second floor to boost the second floor wireless signal?

Got a new e1000 after a RMA. The new unit has a very weak wifi signal. I've tried all different channels. It is running in mixed mode. No microwave, blue-tooth or other noise. 4 feet from the router and the signal is down to -90db. Take a few more steps away and the connection is lost.

I just got a brand new laptop (Windows 8) for my girlfriend as a Xmas gift and I'm having issues with the wifi signal.
If I stay near the router, no problems. But if I go 10-15 feet away, then the signal is almost inexistant... 1 or 2 bars. 20 feet away then it's 0 to 1 bar and losing connection. That router never gave us any problem before. Another laptop (Inspiron 1525 on Vista) is running correctly with a good signal just besides. An HP is also working fine at the same location. And 2 other ones as well... (Yes I know I have many PCs... ;)
I installed the latest drivers for the Belkin router just in case it's due to Windows 8 but that ain't fixed the issue.

My 24" iMac has been running off airport extreme wireless Internet for a few months flawlessly. All of a sudden one day our power goes out.. No problem, reset the system: should be fine. Not the case. Now my iMac can connect to the router but the signal is very weak almost useless and sometimes it won't connect at all. I've tried everything... Diagnostics say it's fine but then other times it says no IP address. Other routers work fine though. And the other computers I'm the building all have perfect connection... What do I try?

I have a brand new Dell Inspiron 1764 laptop that I received on the 25th of June. It is "replacing" a Dell Inspiron 9100 that has gotten to be too slow and bulky for my needs. For support purposes, both laptops are running on Windows 7.Overall, I love my new Inspiron 1764. However, I have noticed seriously degraded connection/signal strength with the wireless card (Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-card) compared to my Inspiron 9100 (Dell Wireless 1350 WLAN Mini-PCI card).
In areas of my house that my 9100 can get full signal strength (5 bars), my new 1764 is getting 2 or fewer bars. This behavior is also not limited to only my house, as I have tested it at my job and in an area less than 10 feet away from the wireless router, I have "Internet connectivity problems".
I tried twice this morning to speak with Dell support. The first person I spoke at least initiated a DellConnect session with me so that they could check some of my settings and such (however, why they went twice into my sharing settings I could not determine since they have absolutely nothing to do with signal strength.)
Unfortunately, I was disconnected from the session when I went to an area that had less signal than right next to my wireless router.I then got back on chat support with Dell and received another technician to speak with. I explained my problem, told them that I was in a DellConnect session with the other technician, and they looked up my support contract. They then told me that my warranty does not cover software issues and referred me to the software department and told me it would be an extra charge. I told them that I did not believe it to be a software issue in any way, shape, or form. They told me that it must be a setting issue. I have since spent several hours scouring the internet forums on Dell and other websites checking people who have had similar issues. Some of their issues were admittedly from software settings, but I have still yet to find anything that indicates to me that I have an incorrect software setting.
As of this writing, I am standing in my kitchen, typing on my Inspiron 9100 with a full 5 bars, while my Inspiron 1764 sits next to me with a measly 2 bars, and I am literally standing 7 feet above the room that houses my Linksys WRTU54G-TM router.Personally, I suspect a faulty wireless card, but how do I convince Dell to hear my case and replace it rather than trying to bilk me for unneeded software support?

I currently have a WAP4410N connected to an ethernet switch and the signal is very weak when attempting to connect to the AP from 4 rooms away. The structure is all block and the signal does not do well between the solid walls. I would like to roam from room to room on the same SSID. how to have the second WAP4410N repeat the original signal and reaplify it from the first WAP to solve this issue. Also, I cannot connect the second WAP to the ethernet switch it must be wireless.

A while ago I replaced my wireless card, and the new one get's considerably weaker signal strength and drops out periodically. I'm sure the problem is with the card itself (or its firmware). It not only get's weak signal strength from my router, but every surrounding network, and sometimes can't detect any networks for a few minutes. I've used several other wi-fi devices in the same spot where this system is sitting and they all get excellent signal strength.I've already tried changing channels on my router and re-installing drivers. Neither has any effect. The card in question is a TP-Link TL-WN951N.

I used BT previously without any problems but now use Orange and now using the Internet downstairs is useless(weird flat configuration). The router is upstairs, next to TV(same location as the BT router). I dont know why the wireless Internet signal has become very weak. The only way I can use the Internet if I sit a few feet from the router. Even then, streaming videos on youtube still takes a while compared to BT. This affects all devices using wireless connection - even my Iphone is useless when used downstairs.
Signal interferance/ hacking? Router? Wireless adapter is up to date.

I had an XP machine using a wired connection with a Linksys WRT54GS 2.4GHz router. The only things connecting to it wireless were my wii and my PS3 which were in the next room, less than 15feet away. I purchased a Windows 7 machine for my wife for Christmas, and gave the XP machine to my kids. I moved the modem and router into the kids playroom, and set the Windows 7 machine up for wireless. Now the router is at one end of the house, and the 7 machine is about 45 feet away. The signal strength was never an issue until last week, and now the PS3 and the Win7 machine constantly have weak signal or no signal. I don't know a whole lot about networking. I am willing to move the router and modem to a central location as a last resort, but would like to keep them with the XP machine for our kids to use.

I have a Linksys E1000 router. The macbook is getting great signal even out in the yard. The PC running Windows 7 and using an AE1000 wireless adapter is only getting 2 bars out of 5. I don't think there's any interference. I can't figure out why the signal strength is so poor.

The signal strength I get is very low, whereas people in the same location get good strength with other laptops like Sony etc.Is there any way of improving the signal strength without disturbing the router/modem, like some software/ hardware changes in the Laptop. Dell havent answered yet.

I bought TP-link wireless repeaters which i have failed trying to setup to an eircom zyxel dsl modem (ISP provided modem)i set it up as a universal repeater and had it auto latch on to the eircom modem but it just doesnt seem to boost the signal.i have turned all encryption and this doesnt work either. I have setup this situation using a netgear dsl modem and a netgear wireless router which if i remember i made a mac bridge, and it works great..am i wasting my time trying to get a TP-link talking to a cheap isp modem? i was reading an article somebody wrote that was doing the same thing yet the modem wasnt the same as mine, they said they got it working using WDS...and that the tp-link doesnt know about WDS and you need to use telnet to change settings on the tp-link looked a real hassle anyway.

I have tested each antenna separately. With each antenna attached one at a time the left and right antenna is giving me -20 signal. The center is only giving me -65 signal. Is this a problem with the router or normal? I noticed that the center pin is pushed in more then the left and right. Don't know if that is the cause.

I have been using a Magnavox 5130 BlueRay Player for a several years. Recently, over the last 4 to 6 months, we have experienced connectivity issues with Netflix. My router is on floor 2 in my office, and the signal strength is strong throughout the house. The Wii with Netflix is in the basement, and it never has a connectivity problem; two laptops are used throughout the three levels with no connectivity problems. So why does the wireless connectivity on the blue ray player suffer? It shows a weak signal, yet when I place my laptop next to it, it shows 5 out of 5 signal strength.I thought maybe there was something in the entertainment center that was perhaps interfering with the signal, so I moved it outside and on top of the entertainment center; no fix.

I am researching power adapters versus range extenders to bring the best signal to a new home theater so I can stream Netflix. I don't do much else (gaming etc...) and am not a tech person. I just want to enjoy movies in an area of my house that gets little or no signal. Didi I waste my money buying smart? Can I still do an ethernet connection off the power adapter? Should I put another router there instead--- off the adapter- so I can use the theaters wifi?

We have cable internet through a wireless router. It seems to be the case that after we have had a router for about a year, my wife begins having trouble with her internet connection; slow speed, no connection, weak signal, etc. Resetting the router and cable modem will fix the problem, but the fix is only for a short time (an hour or a day). We purchase and install a new router, and everything is fine for about a year, then the problems re-emerge.I can't believe that a router "wears out" after a year or so, but that is certainly how it appears. My wife has a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7, I have a Mac, and our son has a Samsung with WIN 7. I don't experience these problems, and my son does not to the extent my wife does. There is obviously something going on with the Toshiba or its interface with the router, but rebooting the computer doesn't have any effect.

I have a DIR-825 in my basement at one end of the house and it works great. My problem is the signal strength is a little weak on the main floor at the other end of the house. I would like to add a second access point to cover that end of the house. Do I need to get another DIR-825 and wire it to the original or is there another option? I obviously don't need all the features of the DIR-825 for the 2nd AP, but I cant find a less expensive option that will still allow me to use both bands.
