New Smart Home Theater But Weak Wifi Signal

Nov 14, 2012

I am researching power adapters versus range extenders to bring the best signal to a new home theater so I can stream Netflix. I don't do much else (gaming etc...) and am not a tech person. I just want to enjoy movies in an area of my house that gets little or no signal. Didi I waste my money buying smart? Can I still do an ethernet connection off the power adapter? Should I put another router there instead--- off the adapter- so I can use the theaters wifi?

Tp-link Repeating A Weak Wifi Signal

Dec 13, 2011

I bought TP-link wireless repeaters which i have failed trying to setup to an eircom zyxel dsl modem (ISP provided modem)i set it up as a universal repeater and had it auto latch on to the eircom modem but it just doesnt seem to boost the signal.i have turned all encryption and this doesnt work either. I have setup this situation using a netgear dsl modem and a netgear wireless router which if i remember i made a mac bridge, and it works i wasting my time trying to get a TP-link talking to a cheap isp modem? i was reading an article somebody wrote that was doing the same thing yet the modem wasnt the same as mine, they said they got it working using WDS...and that the tp-link doesnt know about WDS and you need to use telnet to change settings on the tp-link looked a real hassle anyway.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E1000 Weak Wifi Signal

Got a new e1000 after a RMA. The new unit has a very weak wifi signal. I've tried all different channels. It is running in mixed mode. No microwave, blue-tooth or other noise. 4 feet from the router and the signal is down to -90db. Take a few more steps away and the connection is lost.

Home Network :: Using A Wifi Booster To Boost Weak Signals?

Feb 9, 2011

I have a Wi-Fi booster that can connect to remote distance networks, and I want to share the Wireless Networks that the booster connects to all the local computers in its range (maybe in Ad-Hoc?). The computer that has the booster has it's own separate built-in Wi-Fi. Is this possible in Windows 7 Home Preium?

For example, the booster gets a signal from Wi-Fi network A, and I want Network A to be broadcast to the computers who can't receive Network A's signal. I really don't mind how this is done, preferably without having to buy new hardware.

Asus RT-N12 Dd-wrt Compatible Router For Weekend Home Theater Project

Apr 24, 2011

I've got a relative that needs a wireless solution for their new HD LCD. The spouse has vetoed running cat-5 (I'd have told her to pound sand...) so we're looking for an inexpensive router that we can install dd-wrt on and throw it in bridge mode. The Linksys wrt54g seems to have dried up in the area, no one seems to have one in stock and I haven't had any luck finding an Asus RT-N12 that I can get delivered in a timely fashion, that would have been my second pick.

Any recommendation for a fairly inexpensive G/N router that either features a robust bridge mode or that I can flash for this project?

Not the case. Now my iMac can connect to the router but the signal is very weak almost useless and sometimes it won't connect at all. I've tried everything... Diagnostics say it's fine but then other times it says no IP address. Other routers work fine though. And the other computers I'm the building all have perfect connection... What do I try?

Is this a problem with the router or normal? I noticed that the center pin is pushed in more then the left and right. Don't know if that is the cause.

TL-WN951N Weak Signal Strength With One Wireless Card

Apr 24, 2012

A while ago I replaced my wireless card, and the new one get's considerably weaker signal strength and drops out periodically. I'm sure the problem is with the card itself (or its firmware). It not only get's weak signal strength from my router, but every surrounding network, and sometimes can't detect any networks for a few minutes. I've used several other wi-fi devices in the same spot where this system is sitting and they all get excellent signal strength.I've already tried changing channels on my router and re-installing drivers. Neither has any effect. The card in question is a TP-Link TL-WN951N.

Using A Magnavox 5130 Blu-ray Player / Shows A Weak Signal?

Apr 27, 2013

I have been using a Magnavox 5130 BlueRay Player for a several years. Recently, over the last 4 to 6 months, we have experienced connectivity issues with Netflix. My router is on floor 2 in my office, and the signal strength is strong throughout the house. The Wii with Netflix is in the basement, and it never has a connectivity problem; two laptops are used throughout the three levels with no connectivity problems. So why does the wireless connectivity on the blue ray player suffer? It shows a weak signal, yet when I place my laptop next to it, it shows 5 out of 5 signal strength.I thought maybe there was something in the entertainment center that was perhaps interfering with the signal, so I moved it outside and on top of the entertainment center; no fix.

Wireless Internet Signal Very Slow / Weak After Changing IP?

Dec 2, 2011

I used BT previously without any problems but now use Orange and now using the Internet downstairs is useless(weird flat configuration). The router is upstairs, next to TV(same location as the BT router). I dont know why the wireless Internet signal has become very weak. The only way I can use the Internet if I sit a few feet from the router. Even then, streaming videos on youtube still takes a while compared to BT. This affects all devices using wireless connection - even my Iphone is useless when used downstairs.

Signal interferance/ hacking? Router? Wireless adapter is up to date.

Internet Connection Slow Speed / Weak Signal?

Aug 31, 2011

We have cable internet through a wireless router. It seems to be the case that after we have had a router for about a year, my wife begins having trouble with her internet connection; slow speed, no connection, weak signal, etc. Resetting the router and cable modem will fix the problem, but the fix is only for a short time (an hour or a day). We purchase and install a new router, and everything is fine for about a year, then the problems re-emerge.I can't believe that a router "wears out" after a year or so, but that is certainly how it appears. My wife has a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7, I have a Mac, and our son has a Samsung with WIN 7. I don't experience these problems, and my son does not to the extent my wife does. There is obviously something going on with the Toshiba or its interface with the router, but rebooting the computer doesn't have any effect.

Linksys WRT54GS Wireless Network Signal Suddenly Weak

Jan 18, 2011

I had an XP machine using a wired connection with a Linksys WRT54GS 2.4GHz router. The only things connecting to it wireless were my wii and my PS3 which were in the next room, less than 15feet away. I purchased a Windows 7 machine for my wife for Christmas, and gave the XP machine to my kids. I moved the modem and router into the kids playroom, and set the Windows 7 machine up for wireless. Now the router is at one end of the house, and the 7 machine is about 45 feet away. The signal strength was never an issue until last week, and now the PS3 and the Win7 machine constantly have weak signal or no signal. I don't know a whole lot about networking. I am willing to move the router and modem to a central location as a last resort, but would like to keep them with the XP machine for our kids to use.

Fios Wifi Weak 20 Feet From Actiontec Mi424 Router - Options?

Aug 17, 2012

I got Fios installed this week. Router is the Actiontec MI424, it sits int he living room. I ran a speed test of the wifi on my laptop in the living room, and the internet speeds were great. Here's my problem. I'm in a 2 br condo, not a huge place maybe like 1200 Sq feet, same floor. Wifi is awesome in the living room, but in the bedroom it hangs. I still have a signal, varying for low to good, but it takes forever to open a web page, to the point where you can't use the internet. Bedroom is just down the hall.I called Verizon. They told me they can only guarantee the wifi signal 10 feet from the router, after that no promises. My frustration is that with my previous provider, which was giving me a slower internet connection, my wifi in the bedroom was fine and the router was in the exact same spot. Of course I used my own router? I know there are instructions on connecting my old router to the fios one and using my old router for wifi.
