I am trying to setup VLANs and most of configurations are working ok now except IP address assignment from DHCP. If any computer in VLAN 120 or 130 configured with manual IP address, then all works fine. It can reach internal servers and the internet without problem. If the IP address is assigned automatically then any computer in VLAN 120 or 130 are obtaining IP address (strangely!) from VLAN 100. Because switch ports that connected to the computer belongs to VLAN 120 or 130, the computer cannot reach internal servers and the internet with ip address from VLAN 100 . All SVI interfaces for VLAN 100, 120 and 130 have ip helper-address option defined pointing to the DHCP server. No DHCP snooping enabled on all switches at this point. DHCP server have three scopes for the three different VLANs.

So, I currently have a Toshiba Satellite, L550 Series, and in the new year, my battery started becoming loose in the charging spot, so I turned my computer off for the night to save power, and went out the following day. When I turned my computer back on, it started to say that I had no internet connection available, and when I tried to troubleshoot, instead of working like it normally does, it said I needed to plug in an ethernet cable, which I don't use at all.So, I decided to look around my Network and Connections page, and when I clicked the link called "See Full Map", instead of seeing what I normally see (which is my computer, my brothers computer, and my sisters computer, then the internet router) I only saw a sentence along the lines of "The adapter needs to be plugged in".

now the extension does power the adapter, but the cpu doesnt seem to recognize the adapter is plugged in, but if i plug the adapter straight into the computer then it all works fine.
other people seem to have no problem at all doing this to achieve better signal.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm part of a Tech Support department of 50 located along the Gulf Coast. In years past we have found hurricanes and other disasters may have forced Engineers to work from home or out of hotel rooms for several weeks. Since that time we are now using VoIP phones that require a power over Ethernet (PoE) LAN connection. Along with the phone we already have an external power brick that we can take home that supplies the PoE LAN connection. However, that requires that you have access to the router so you can run a physical cable from the router to the power brick.
That's fine when you are at your own house and have access to your own router. But in the case of a hotel, you can't run a cable to the router. Many hotels have gone to wireless only and don't have a physical LAN jack to plug into. So I've been looking at something like the Netgear WNCE3001 Dual-Band Internet Adapter. That will supply a physical LAN connection from WiFi only. But it does not have PoE. So now if we are going to work from a hotel room, we need the VoIp phone, the power brick and the WiFi Internet adapter. 3 seperate items to lug around.
Is there such a device that would allow you to pickup a WiFi signal in a hotel room and has a physical LAN jack that is also capable of PoE? I could at least lose the power brick then.

Airlink+ 802.11g 2.0 (old) Works with XP but not on W7 (blinks)
WifiMAX Dongle 802.11g 2.0 (also old) (Sometimes blinks at intervals)
TrendNET TEW-644UB (bought last year) (Light stays on/no longer blinks)
Netgear WNA3100 (arrived just a few hours ago) (I made it blink now with its software)
I have tried(netgear):
-rebooting
-installing/uninstalling drivers
-uninstalling itunes
-Using a W8 procedure for it
-tried using different software
-Some other stuff
I have not tried a HKEY codes for it My biggest problem is that the "Disabled" status is stuck and I cannot re-enable it. If there is a way to override this I would be happy to hear it. FYI I use the same wifi connection on my netbook and android, and they are working fine, so it's definitely not a problem with the ISP.

I've been having a problem with my wifi for a month or so. I used to connect well to my wifi, but then one day my laptop just can't connect to it anymore. It says "windows was unable to connect to" or something similar to that. But what's strange is, I have an external wifi adapter (Tenda 802.11n, it looks like an USB flash drive). I use this adapter to connect to Wifi with the very same password, and it can connect perfectly. Signal strength is around the same level.I tried using windows troubleshooter, didn't work. I borrowed my friend's laptop (which is very modern, and have windows 7 - mine has windows XP), but the same problem exists: the laptop can't connect, but the adapter can.I also tried to export the wifi settings to an USB flash drive (using windows 7's function), and installed it on the laptops. Didn't work. [code]

It didn't automatically connect to the wifi, so I opened the connections window to connect to a network and it said "Windows cannot find any networks." I refreshed several times and nothing happened. I clicked the option underneath "Diagnose why windows can't find any networks," and it came back with "This computer does not have a wireless adapter installed and configured." I then opened up the device manager, and under network Adapters, the only thing is "Intel(R) 82566DC-2 Gigabit Network Connection." I checked it out and it says it's working properly, and I believe that this adapter is for when you actually connect a cable directly to the PC.
