View 1 RepliesCurrently I am hosting a 7 day mountain retreat, for about 90+ people. Clearly they are dependent on the internet teet as am I I am trying very hard to provide internet to our friends, but I just can't seem to figure it out I have a Mobile Broadband Router (MBBR) which limits connected devices to 6, so I figured that if connect a home router with wifi (WIFI) that allows 253 connections problem solved right? So I put a short LAN cable from the LAN port on the MBBR to the WAN port on the WIFI and presto! The WIFI gets a IP address, but does not allow other users of the WIFI to get internet. I've even killed all security on the WIFI and put the WIFIs IP in the DMZ on the MBBR. I noticed the DNS was the same as the gateway on the WIFI, so I changed that to the DNS on the MBBR still nothing.
PS Yes I have a connection on the MBBR I am on it now.Connecting the LAN cable from the MBBRs LAN to the WIFIs LAN extends the range, and grants internet to the WIFI users... but uses the MBBRs DHCP to give IP addresses, which limits to 6.I guess the goal here is bypass the limitation of the MBBR by using the WIFIs DHCP to issue IPs?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to setup my wifi at home and want to cover all the areas under same SSID and allow roaming cross since one router can not cover 20000 sq ft over 3-4 levels.I anticipate at least 8 if not more to cover everywhere. How do I setup a WLAN network for myself. I have a cat6 cable running in quite a few rooms.Basically my end game is have uninterrupted wifi access everywhere in the house Possibly run a SIP based PBX over wifi wherever possible, close to 24 extensions.I also laid down cat6 in most rooms to allow to setup my own central media server with that as well but that's a different topic and forum I guess. Can I use the cat6 coming into the rooms, connect it to the wifi router and provide Internet access over wifi and use the router as a hub to connect a cat6 from the router for the media player and another one to a sip based Pbx extension or have the Pbx extension be on wifi?Damn sorry for such a confusing and loaded sentence.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm part of a Tech Support department of 50 located along the Gulf Coast. In years past we have found hurricanes and other disasters may have forced Engineers to work from home or out of hotel rooms for several weeks. Since that time we are now using VoIP phones that require a power over Ethernet (PoE) LAN connection. Along with the phone we already have an external power brick that we can take home that supplies the PoE LAN connection. However, that requires that you have access to the router so you can run a physical cable from the router to the power brick.
That's fine when you are at your own house and have access to your own router. But in the case of a hotel, you can't run a cable to the router. Many hotels have gone to wireless only and don't have a physical LAN jack to plug into. So I've been looking at something like the Netgear WNCE3001 Dual-Band Internet Adapter. That will supply a physical LAN connection from WiFi only. But it does not have PoE. So now if we are going to work from a hotel room, we need the VoIp phone, the power brick and the WiFi Internet adapter. 3 seperate items to lug around.
Is there such a device that would allow you to pickup a WiFi signal in a hotel room and has a physical LAN jack that is also capable of PoE? I could at least lose the power brick then.

View 19 Replies View RelatedSince moving house and starting a new internet connection with talk talk, my V5535 has been having problems with the WIFI. It will connect to the WIFI but always comes up as local access only. If I manually connect it to the Router using a data cable, I then have internet. I don't think the problem is the router (it's one supplied by talktalk) as my sony erricson Xperia phone has no problems picking up the WIFI and internet access. My WIFI still works correctly at my parents' house but just not at mine.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a T-Mobile hotspot (ZTE) yesterday. It can connect to the T-Mobile network and appears to be working fine. My Wii can connect wirelessly to the the hotspot, but my laptop can only connect to the internet through the USB cord (which it's really not supposed to, because that's supposed to be for charging the device). When I try to connect via wifi to my hotspot, my computer can detect the network. However, after I immediately enter my password, it says that it cannot connect. When I click "Diagnose the problem" it says there was a timeout.I have Windows Vista and one of the tech support people mentioned that Windows Vista sometimes has problems connecting with handshake devices (but he didn't know how to fix it). Another person said I should have about 20 seconds to type in my password, so it shouldn't be timing out so quickly. Is it something with my computer? I have a Compaq Presario CQ60. I had this same problem when I tried to connect to a friend's hotspot a couple weeks ago (I don't remember if it was also T-Mobile or another provider, though).
