i have 3 netgear dg834g wireless routers. router1 has the adsl connection, router2 and router3 are connected to the ethernet ports of router1. All the wired computers are for the office desktops and the epos terminals on the restaurant floor.
we'd like to give wireless access to our customers but we don't want them to be able to access our epos terminals, could subnetting be used to make this work or would i require additional hardware?
We have an E4200, currently with wireless disabled, on a Windows 2003 based domain. We have a Static IP from our ISP.We want to install some wireless & wired security cameras (IP-based) so that we can view them from our iphones or droids outside the network. The software for these cameras will reside on a computer that is not currently on the network, but needs to use the same Internet connection as the current domain. We basically want to separate these cameras & computer from the current network, use same Internet connection (& Static IP), and enable wireless on the E4200 for the cameras only.
A query here with regards to Wireless isolation between SSID and wireless isolation within SSID.If we have 2 SSID, eg. InternalSSID, GuestSSID on AP1.Both SSID are set to Enabled for isolation between SSID, and within SSID, that would mean all machines connected thro' this AP1, would be isolated from one another.
1) If there's 1 laptop that connects to another AP, lets call it AP2, (doesn't have isolation function) on ssid01. Would this laptop still be isolated from those that connects to the first AP?
2) If there are wired PCs connected to the router. And the 2 APs are connected to the same router. Would the machines connected thro' the AP1 on either InternalSSID, GuestSSID be able to access those wired PCs? (My assumption is yes.)
3) Is there a quick and efficient way to setup on WRVS4400N to isolate GuestSSID totally from InternalSSID, and wired PCs. InternalSSID and wired PCs should be allowed to 'see' one another.
The challenge here is that, the network points are all installed already. Both AP are connecting thro' 2 separate unmanaged switch together with a couple of other PCs. 1 Port on the unmanaged switch, each, connects to the router.
I have a Uverse router and using the Ethernet ports I have others around me hooked up using routers.I am using the wireless from the Uverse. Now I may already be isolated but I am not sure. The others using the internet are not on the same SSID as I am.Uverse router in a central location but too far for anyone to pickup the signal but is also encrypted with a password no one knows. 3 300 foot Ethernet wires go to separate locations and are connected to wireless routers.(that is how the remote locations access the internet. The people using the remote routers (to the best of my knowledge are not hackers). However I want to be sure that all of my info and websites visited stay private.how I can continue to give the internet to the remote locations and be 100% sure my PC is isolated. My PC is W7 as well as one of the remote locations the others use vista and XP and one uses an iPad
Our church has two internet connections, one that the internal network accesses and one that the wireless network in the building accesses. For (obvious) security reason we need to keep the networks isolated from eachother. On sunday's when we upload the sunday sermon video recording we caused a network lag for other computers on the network, thus the church has asked us to use the wireless network to upload the videos. We record the video on one computer, then can transfer it to a Mac that has 2 network cards.
How do we isolate the two networks from eachother without plugging and unplugging cables and have the Mac upload through the wireless network instead of the wired network?
I have a Cisco 1841 router with the followingSerial T1 connection Fastethernet 1 with network address 192.168.0.1 Fastethernet 2 with network address 198.168.0.1I want to isolate Fastethernet 2 so that it cannot access the internet or the 192.168.0.1 network. Only incoming request is available.
I am unable to isolate DMZ and LAN traffic with an SA520 running 2.1.7.1 firmware. I have the optional port configured as DMZ and DHCP server enabled. I tired leaving the firewall as default. Also tried creating firewall rules to deny traffic from LAN to DMZ and DMZ to LAN for any address and any service.I am still able to ping devices both from LAN to DMZ and DMZ to LAN. I am also able to see network resources in both directions.
We would like to setup a link to our DR site that is separate from our main network traffic. This link will be used by an EMC VNX SAN for replication traffic. The SAN will be plugged into a fiber port on a 3750 switch and going out from the same switch (going in as multimode, going out as single mode) into a patch panel that runs over to the DR site (about a mile away). At the DR site it will go from the fiber panel into another 3750 switch which ends up going back out of that switch into our DR SAN.
I'm wondering what the best way would be to configure the fiber ports to accomplish this. I'm affraid that the replication traffic will find it's way over through another route and congest our main network unless configured appropriately.
I purchased and set-up the EA4500 on Thursday. Friday my ISP (Charter) was out and worked on connection for over 2 hours due to slowness issues. Connected directly to modem I get normal ping times on whichever computer is connected. When I get the computer connected by the router (hard wired) I get very long ping responses up to 900ms. They are all over the place 30ms (I can live with that), up to the 900's. I contacted Linksys support last night, who had me update to the cloud firmware and change MT U to 1300, have not noticed a difference. I did end up doing a hard reset on the router last night after I lost tech support. We were disconnected with router rebooted, and I didn't have the patience to connect again last night.
It was so slow on my work computer, a pint to yahoo timed out. The computers connecting to router are
XP SP3 (mine) Win 7 Home (IPV6 turned off) Work laptop that uses VPN and VOIP
I have an e2000 wireless router and have several devices connected by ethernet cable including private data on an external hard drive. I am planning to allow a tenant in another building connect via an ethernet cable connected to my router. Can I limit that computer (tenant's computer) from accessing all other devices connected by ethernet cable to my router? I know can password protect wireless access and limit access to the internet that way -- but my question is specifically to connections by ethernet cable.
My E4200 router no longer accepts any WIRED connections. I can connect from the modem to the computer and everything works as expected. I can connect other computers wirelessly to the router. I cannot connect any laptops WIRED to the router. Nothing has changed on the systems to restrict internet access. There is something wrong with the router and the WIRED ports. I tried going through the troubleshooting on this site but it was of little to no assistance. The Cisco Connect utility doesn't appear to accomplish anything either. My guess is because I cannot connect to the WIRED ports on the router to connect to the internet to allow for whatever troubleshooting that needs to be done.
I have a home network with a wired BEFSR41 that, for a variety of reasons, MUST be manually IP configured (DHCP off). All computers and other devices connected to it are manually IP configured. I desire to add a device that cannot be manually configured, and needs DHCP. I therefore need to daisy-chain two routers with the second one DHCP on (and manual IP connection to the main network). The new device needs two-way internet access, but doesn't care if it sees any other current network devices. I've tried several configurations, none seem to work.
I have a WAP54G in my basement shop, wired to our main router upstairs, which is a Linksys BEFSR81. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the WAP or the router.
I only use the laptop computer in the shop every couple of days, but I leave the laptop plugged in and on most of the time. I used to have the power settings such that it didn't power down completely even after a long time. With that setup, if i didn't use the computer for several days, it would find that the connection to the router had died. The wireless link would report that it had a solid connection, but I couldn't connect to anything. Power cycling the WAP always fixed this.
Recently, I decided to save some wear & tear on the laptop drive, and adjusted the power settings to go to standby after a couple of hours. Now, it seems I can't even go one day without losing my connection.
I am running the latest frimware in the WAP, and the router is version 3.1. I can't check the firmware version on the router at the moment, because the web interface is giving me a blank screen. I know from past experience that I will have to power cycle it to get it to talk to me again.
In any event, it seems like the router connection to the WAP is timing out. I set the router "client lease time" up to 10000 a while back when I first had this problem, but that is clearly not doing the trick.
possible solutions to add the wireless LAN to wired LAN of the organization for providing the flexibility in accessing the organization services i.e.,which type of hardware is needed and what changes i have to do and suggest me the best solution in terms of speed, distance, cost for redesigning, cost for training for the employees, maintenance cost, security.
If i go wired i get 100mbps on both my laptop and desktop unit if i switch to wireless they both go 135 to 150 mbps any ideas? both units have megabit cards. My laptop i use at work at 1.0gbps no problem. It doesnt change no mater where i plug into at home or with different cables same speeds
I came here after spending a long time of trying to figure out my problem. The problem is, my router will send a signal strong enough to my room because of the thick walls. I have a wire in my room that I connect to my computer for internet. I also have my xbox and other internet enabled devices that I would like to use. Is there some way I could buy a router for my room that gets the internet from a wire? Could I use my computer as a router?
I am trying update my kit and want to switch to wireless from wired.I have a linksys wired router which is fine but on the slow side.3 pc`s connected with ethernet 100mbs.As I understand things I can get up to 300 using the correct PCI card or USB dongles which I have.I have tried the"Cheap and cheerful" ebay stuff.Cheap yes, cheerful no, load of crap, I will bin it lesson learned. To get to the point I just want opinions on which is a good wireless router for home use.I want to connect 3 desktops and 1 laptop.2 desktops are less than 1m from access point, third is about 4.The laptop or any other wireless device I would like to be able to work at about 40mtrs away going through 2 brick walls.
I have a local wired network without the internet connectivity. It is just 3 computers connected to a router with hard wire (Not connected to outside world). For Internet I use Xfinity Wifi and connect wirelessly. However As soon as I connect the wire to the laptop the internet connectivity is lost.It says access is local only.I have no idea why it is going to the gateway after Xfinity wifi.If I disconnect the wire the internet is connected immediately. However I want to be able to see the web as well as other computers on my local network simultaneously. I tried to google several sites but could not find anyone with a similar setup (One without outside connection and one with internet connectivity)
I have a modem which i use wirelessly by a router.how to use it as a wired connection.I tried unplugging the ethernet cable from my router and plugging it into my laptop but my laptop recognized it as a different network connection itself. To access internet i must first login at my ISP' website. After i connected the ethernet cable i tried accessing the net but it wouldnt redirect me, i kept experimenting and finally got there but once i logged in it said the user is already logged in and some usage restriction crap.
I am running Pclinuxos with dsl/wireless but my tv uses only wired so I have to get a wired line to my TV via wireless router I am so confused why I cant just bridge a connection and connect the wire. What can I do I am using a Netgear cable/dsl Prostate wireless Firewall/Print server FPM114P
At my office we have public wireless and our Domain based wired connection is locked down tight as a drum. On my Laptop, When I want to download something, I have to disable wired and enable wireless, once I'm done, I disable wireless and re-enable wired. Is there any other better way to do this?
I have a home network with various machines using the wirelss and mu laptop connected to the Belkin roouter both wireless and wired ....everything is seeing each other just fine b ut I would like to haveone app(say firefox ) use my wireless IP and oh say (World of Warcraft) use my wired ...
I currently have a wired PC connected to a single Ethernet out DSL modem. I am buying a laptop for my daughter and would like to have a wireless connection for it.
I have a D-link Wireless router (DIR-628) that is connected directly to my cable modem.
From this router I have cables connecting to various rooms in my house. One of those rooms is my home office and in this room my home PC is connected.
I recently purchased a network enabled printer that I want to hook up to the network. As I only have 1 drop in my office I need a switch or related piece of hardware.
Before I go and buy a switch it was suggested that I use an old wireless router I had in storage. So I dug out my D-link (WBR-2310) router and simply plugged it in.
I now have the second router connected directly to my wall outlet which in turn is connected to the wireless router in my utility room which is connected to the cable modem. I am not using the WAN input on the second router but instead am using port 1. Port 2 goes to my PC and port 3 goes to my printer.
Everything seems to work fine...... Except, sometimes some of my wireless connections (laptop, iphone etc...) seem to have connection problems.
Is this because of the second wireless router on my system? If so, how can I disable the wireless function of this second router?
I just connected a WRT190N v2 Wireless Router to my XPS 400. When my wife tried to connect our other desktop to the wireless network, everything seemed fine. I noticed that, when she wasn't actively browsing or using the network, her computer would lose connectivity, but regain it when a browser was opened. When I tried to use the XPS, I found that it had no connection. I regained connectivity after using the Windows Network Diagnostic tool, but neither computer seems to keep connectivity when left alone, at least for very long.
Why my E3200 is (for lack of a better word) "throttling" my internet speeds.I'm signed up for my ISP's 50Mbps data plan. When I hook up my laptop directly to the cable modem (via LAN cable), I see close to 50Mbps as the internet speed (measure via speedtest.net). When I hook up my router to the cable modem, and connect via LAN cable to the router, the internet speed comes down to around a maximum of 26Mbps. NOTE, that I am still talking about a wired connection and not a wireless access. Speed tests with the wireless access do yield the same results as well. To rule out the obvious, I've confirmed that there aren't any other devices on the network and no other bandwidth hogging applications running while I performed these tests.
I finally decided to go with a e3200 yesterday and picked up one at Walmart. Last night I went to hook it up and had no luck setting it up. Now I have able Internet with a phone VoIP service. After trying to connect several ways, all the router wants to do is sit with a flashing power light. I cannot access the setup page wireless or wired and have tried several methods I found last night.
have a Cisco 5508 controller (version 6.0.199.4) that when I enable global multicast mode it will work for an hour or two and then it will kill the network. All internet both wired and wireless, access to server everything dead. I then have to directly connect to the service port and disable the global multicast mode. Then two reasons for enabling it are Docs2Go and LanSchool both require multicast to be enabled. I have it enabled on our wired network and it works OK there. ted.
I own a E4200 v1 router and recently discovered that wired and wireless devices cannot talk to each other.Their IP address are acquired through DHCP and inside the same network, but cannot talk to each other by any means, such as ping or http connection.I tried switching wired device to wireless and this actually solve the problem. I've searched and seen thread talking about "AP isolation" settings in advanced wireless setting, but there's no such setting page in my router (running on v1.0.5 firmware). I've already disabled any filtering and firewall function on the router, but still no good.
