I have a NAS server and a smart tv which run off ethernet connections to this router.then have a cable run upstairs to a TPlink gigabit switch which is connected to a PC and a printer (in my study). All this works just fine, no configuration needed.I have a TPlink wireless router, a TL-WR743ND. I want to use this to connect to the switch upstairs (not downstairs - my stone walls limit any wireless access point) to provide wireless network coverage for my house.So I figured I should configure it with a dynamic IP address (ie it gets it from the netgear DHCP), turn off the TPLink's DHCP and firewall, and then any wireless devices attached to the TPLink by wireless should have access to printer and NAS

I also just bought a Linksys Valet Plus M20 that will be my router once I get it in the mail. The problem is I want to hook up my downstairs Satellite receiver to the internet but it only has a LAN port. I cannot run a LAN cable downstairs. Is there any way to link these routers up wirelessly and then run a LAN cable to my SAT receiver? Or do I need to buy a different product?

*-> DAP-1522 (wireless access point/bridge)
Now, we're on the 192.168.1.x domain, and I've already hooked my PC up directly to the DAP-1522 and switched its IP address. So now, I can connect to it through the switch. I've renamed it, set it to WPA2 with a passphrase, and should be set to go. However, I can't get my laptop, IPod touch, or any devices to see it. I tried entering the SSID manually, and nothing can find it.
If you look at my attachment it shows a thousand words; but basically I have a 4 port Thompson ADSL modem/router which handles the DHCP, and plugged into this are my main PC which I use to serve video files and music to my PS3 - which is connected to the same router but via a switch.The WIFI on the Thompson modem is switched off.In this scenario alone (NO Belkin wireless access point) my media plays beautifully via PS3 Media Server.However the moment I connect the Belkin into the switch as well, it plays havoc with the wired connection speed between the PC and PS3, dropping it to near unplayable speeds. Massive video stutters, music stops etc. I measured it using a PC on the end of the cable instead of the PS3 and it came out at about 1.4Mbps using 'LAN Speed Test'[CODE]

The reason is I need more ports for wired equipment, XBOX, Tivo's, Laser printer, TV's, etc. I'm out of ports. IP info on the Linksys is 192.168.1.245, subnet is 255.255.255.0, Gateway is 192.168.1.1.The Belkin has been reset to factory defauts so IP is 192.168.2.1.If I connect my PC directly to the router using one of the wired ports not the modem port, I can access the router webpage.As soon as I enable access point mode and change the router IP to 192.168.1.246,I lose the router and cannot access it at all to finish the network configuration.

Tech supportme because no one wants to comment on if/how to attach equipment manufactured by some other company.I have a wireless home network using a Netgear DGN2280 router/modem. I also have an HP Officejet 5800 printer that I would like to add to the network. This is a USB printer that DOES NOT have a network card of any kind.I have heard of a print server, and know that it obviously has to do with hooking a printer to a network, but don't know if it will work in my application. Will this work for me?I just now noticed that there is a USB port on the back of the router/modem. can I hook my printer up to that port (and leave it hooked up) and print across the wireless network? I don't care if my printer has to be wired to something. I would just prefer that my laptop not have to be wired directly to the printer.

View 3 Replies View RelatedShe has comcast xfinity with a the SMCD3GNV router which if you ever look it up has the worst wireless signal imaginable and I can second that. I was hoping to not have to touch the SMCD3GNV router and just add on to it by attaching a secondary router as a wap.What I plan to do (which I am sure has been exasterbated in forums but just want clarity) was to disable DHCP on the new n router ( cheaper than official wap) and set ip out of SMCD3GNV router DHCP ip range but in same subnet mask so probably 192.168.1.2. Then connect the SMCD3GNV router to the new router via ethernet and dont use wan port. Is this basically all I have to do? Do I need to change the channels on either devices since their next to eachother? or will them being next to eachother and same channel cause interference? I have read I can call comcast and turn the smcd3gnv into a bridge ( plain modem) but I would rather avoid calling them and see if 2 wireless access points next to eachother is okay.Also, I plan on doing this by going to microcenter.com and getting a router for 24.99 or less with a coupon I have. Is there any on their website that you would recommend for this setup? Also if you could check the wap on their website and see if you think its worth it to get one of those instead if under that price as well. I want to utilize wireless n signal . Also, the xfinity service she has is rated for 50mbps download and cannot remember the upload , I have tested this wired and it does actually achieve this or greater.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased a 2nd router to boost my wireless range.in order to set this up, is all I have to do is set router 2 outside the range of the DHCP and turn OFF DHCP on router 2. Then I can successfully connect the two routers and if I am upstairs use router1 and downstairs use router2 wireless signal?What would be the pros/cons of using the same SSID? I know one benefit would be not having to set-up each device to connect to the new network name of router 2, but IDK what problems this could ensue. One immediate problem I can think of is if a device could not connect I wouldn't know which router (router1 or router2) the device was unable to connect to immediately.

It works fine without securing the router with a key, but I don't want my neighbors stealing my Internet bandwidth.
I am staying with some family for the next two months and they don't have wireless internet at their house. When they bought their house it was wired for ethernet and have the modem going to a netgear 8 port switch which is going to the different rooms of the house. I would like to add a wireless access point to one of those 8 ports coming from the switch. I currently have a TP-LINK TLWR740N router that I can configure into an access point, or I can buy just and access point. Unfortunately it is not an option for me to plug the modem into the router and then the router into the switch.

We have a working LAN port, so access isn't a problem. And we know the server address. As much as we'd like the IT dept. to do it, or to at least tell us how, they're unbelievably lazy and won't do either.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to add my E2500 as a second wireless router to cover my entire house.I have a Motorola Surfboard SBG6580 cable modem (Time-Warner) at one end of the house.I added via powerline Ethernet connection a new E2500 wireless router at the other end of the house.The E2500 set-up with all defaults and has the same SSID and Password as the Surfboard cable modem.It seems to work OK, but I wonder about network confusion/interference.Do I have to configure the E2500 in some manner to allow seamless roaming of my wireless devices (iPad, Cell Phones, Netbook)?I had an RE1000 with just the Surfboard, but it did not quite do the trick, and does not like both routers connected at either end.

My current 2504 has each port configured for my four subnets that and it is managing AP's in 4 buildings. Should I configure the new 2504 the same way so that it can see all four sites? All so if the main 2504 goes down can the second 2504 take over even thou we will be out of lic?
