Cisco Wireless :: Intermittent Connection To Network Using 1242 AG Access

Oct 15, 2012

I have a Cisco 1242 AG wireless access point with the goal of having multiple SSIDs. I set up one network which broadcasts correctly but only sometimes can I connect to it.

And, even if I connect to the network, I cannot get a DHCP address for the client.Other devices connected (but not through this Access Point) to the associated VLAN 60 can get a DHCP address and connect just fine.Here is the configuration for the Cisco 1242 AG access point in question: [code]

Lastly, here is the information on VLAN 60 from the distribution switch. As mentioned, other devices connect to this VLAN and get IP addresses just fine.

Adding Printer To Wireless Network?

Mar 3, 2011

I am not a tech person, so I apologize if this is a dumb question. Tech supportme because no one wants to comment on if/how to attach equipment manufactured by some other company.I have a wireless home network using a Netgear DGN2280 router/modem. I also have an HP Officejet 5800 printer that I would like to add to the network. This is a USB printer that DOES NOT have a network card of any kind.I have heard of a print server, and know that it obviously has to do with hooking a printer to a network, but don't know if it will work in my application. Will this work for me?I just now noticed that there is a USB port on the back of the router/modem. can I hook my printer up to that port (and leave it hooked up) and print across the wireless network? I don't care if my printer has to be wired to something. I would just prefer that my laptop not have to be wired directly to the printer.

DI-524 - Adding A Wireless Access Point To A Network?

Jan 22, 2013

We have a wireless router, (Dlink DI-524, a couple of years old, and all the cables), and I have a basic knowledge of networking, such as DHCP servers and so on, but I don't know how to set it up. We have a working LAN port, so access isn't a problem. And we know the server address. As much as we'd like the IT dept. to do it, or to at least tell us how, they're unbelievably lazy and won't do either.

Samsung BD-E5500 - Adding Blu-ray Player To Wireless Network

Apr 9, 2012

I have practically NO knowledge of networking! So I've been tearing my hair out trying to get this darn thing sorted but to no avail.So, I've bought a Samsung BD-E5500 blu-ray player which has internet capability either through Ethernet or a Samsung wireless adapter. I am not willing to spend an extra £40-£70 on an adapter and obviously don't relish the idea of running a very long cable to my router upstairs. However the general concensus is that it's possible to take a cable out of the Ethernet and into a wireless AP or router, using it as a bridge to the main wireless router. So I have tried this and failed, of course not having a clue as to what I'm really doing. I have a Netgear ME102 access point which the player can't seem to get on the network with at all and also I have tried using a Belkin F5D7632 wireless router. Now, with the Belkin router the player does say that it can access the network, however it says that it cannot access the internet. The wireless router that I have upstairs is an O2 Wireless Box 3.

DAP-1522 / Adding Wireless Access Point To Wired Network?

Dec 27, 2010

Here's the setup:

DGL-4100 (wired gigabit router)
-> Wii
-> X360
-> PS3
-> DGS-2205 (wired gigabit switch in study)
*-> My PC
*-> Her PC
*-> DAP-1522 (wireless access point/bridge)

Now, we're on the 192.168.1.x domain, and I've already hooked my PC up directly to the DAP-1522 and switched its IP address. So now, I can connect to it through the switch. I've renamed it, set it to WPA2 with a passphrase, and should be set to go. However, I can't get my laptop, IPod touch, or any devices to see it. I tried entering the SSID manually, and nothing can find it.

Netgear WNDR4500 - Adding Wireless Router To Existing Network?

Sep 23, 2012

Added a wireless router to our office here so that people with laptops could get on the net without having to physically plug in. Right now it is ok, but the router is acting as it's own DHCP server instead of our server here assigning out the IP's.

The main gripe I have is I can only login to the router through my phone and not through my computer. How can I achieve this. We have multiple offices that all connect through a VPN. I would like our sys admin to access the router at his location as well.

Do I just turn off DHCP on the router and thats it? The model is Netgear WNDR4500.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 Adding To Network Without Changing Anything On RouteFinder

Jan 5, 2012

I am trying to add the E3000 to my existing network to provide Wireless Connectivity for my users.  The main router is a RouteFinder SOHO VPN (RF560).  The RouteFinder acts as a gateway and provides DHCP.  I do not want to change it's role or settings.  When I added the E3000 using a Lan-to-Lan connection to the RouteFinder, all users lost access to the internet.  As a quick fix as I was working on something else at the time, I just unplugged the E3000.  Now I am reading through Article 3733 that I was originally referred to and that has me changing the settings on the RouteFinder which I do not want to do.  Is there any way to accomplish adding this to my network without changing anything on the RouteFinder at all???  By the way...I am located in another state than this router and network.  I can call and have someone plug and unplug stuff but all of the configuration has to be done remotely.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT400N - Adding Access Point To Existing Network

Oct 26, 2010

I have an existing wireless network using a Cisco/Linksys WRT400N wireless router (which in turn is connected to a cable internet provider). I need to extend my wireless coverage and so purchased a Cisco/Linksys E1000 to act as an additional access point.  Purchased from BB, the local 'geek squad' rep instructed me to follow the users guide for the set up. After login into the admin service on my E1000, I followed the 'Advanced Routing' instructions and disabled the 'NAT' option and subsequently enabled the 'Dynamic Routing (RIP)' option.  Everything worked like a charm to this point, but now I'm stuck. What steps do I need to follow to allow clients to log onto my wirelss network via the E1000 (secondary access point)? I've established WEP security keys on the WRT400N (primary access point) and want to use the same network security parameters on the E1000.

Adding A Non-wireless Network Printer Via Wireless?

Apr 5, 2011

My problem is the whole network (router / switches) is located in one end of the office building and the printer is located in the other end. Its a big multi functional printer with copy, scan etc. At the momemt we have a loooong network cable running on the floor from the one end to the printer.

Unfortunately we dont have an easy way to install cables above the rooms and that way connect the printer via cable to the other end of the building so I need some sort of wireless solution.

The range is approx 20 meters.

I was thinking of installing a wireless router in the printer room and then some wireless adaptors in the pc's (they dont have wireless cards at the moment). But can the pc's have trouble-free connection to both lan and w-lan at the same time ?

Cisco Wireless :: Configuring WDS With 1242 APs

Dec 26, 2011

I'm using two cisco 1242 AG access points to configure WDS feature. I've named the accesspoints as AP1(acts as WDS) and AP2. Since I've only two accesspoints, I've configured the AP1 to act both as a WDS and as a regular accesspoints.Further I'm using the local radius server within the AP1 to authenticate both clients and infrastructure accesspoints. And both APs are connected to a router (which act as a dhcp server) via a unmanageble switch and both accesspoints are getting registered with WDS.But the issue is when I tried to connect to the configured SSID, it promts me a "authentication window" but after entering the configured username and password, i'm not getting authenticated by the AP.

I've attached the configurations of both APs to for your reference and I've used the following cisco document as a guideline to crate the WDS. [code]

Cisco Wireless :: Ap 1242 Need To Reset AP

Cisco Wireless :: 1242 - Roaming Between APs With No RADIUS

Feb 9, 2011

I have 3 Cisco 1242 WAPs that I have deployed at a site that has NO  RADIUS/AAA devices. I have given all of them a different channel  (1,6,11), but the same SSID and crypto (WPA2-PSK). The issue is when a  machine boots up it associates with the closest/strongest AP, but as the  device "roams" it does not which to a different AP. It stays associated  with the original AP until that signal is gone. Then it quickly  associates with the closest AP with no problem.

How do  I get the device to associate with the strongest WAP? I have research  "fast roaming and WDS" but it seems like you need EAP/LEAP and they do  NOT have that at all.

Cisco Wireless :: 1242 Can't Interrupt Boot Through Terminal

Apr 11, 2012

We  currently have 8 1242's and they all work fine, however we recently  baught one 2nd hand one which was previously connected to a WLC, it  lights up fine but it wont detect in IPSU even though the dhcp has  assigned an IP to it. I would like to login through the web page to  configure it but I am not able to do that either. It responds  to ping  fine though. So  I no longer wont it be a LAP, so I tried to console in, to run  flash_init etc. but when I try and give the <ESC> command (during  the flash loader) it just carries on and ignores all input. I have used  the correct settings Baud rate 9600, no parity, no flow control ,  databits 8, etc. but nothing happens it just goes through the boot and  then asks me to press enter to input. i can then browse the directories  and rename files. but I just cant get it to holt the loader so I can  reset,  I tried rename of config.txt and env_vars but that has't worked  either. It keeps stating that it is looking for LWAPP/CAPWAP but  unfortunately we don't have a WLC Is there another way I can reset it or is there some magic way in whic I can send the ESC command.

Cisco Wireless :: Lan Connectivity On Autonomous AP With Throttles 1242 Ap

I encounter a strange problem on several AP 1242 in version 12.4(25d)JA1 of a customer : He has 10 autonomous AP covering The APs loose LAN connectivity randomly and therefore the clients don't work anymore. The AP are connected on a 2960 and a 3560 wich are in turn connected on a 3750 wich route the trafic.After checking spanning-tree no loops are present. When I check the counters on the AP involved I see the "trhottles" and "ignored" counters incrementing on the fa0 link of the AP impacted wich mean I think it can't handle the incoming traffic. This incoming traffic seems not to be too big however. I can see drops on the switch interface connecting the AP.
