Adding A Computer To A Windows Small Business Server Network?

Apr 14, 2011

At my office we have a dell server running windows small business server 2003, there are around 15 computers on our network running mostly windows 7 (a few with XP). I am wondering how difficult it is to add a computer to the network so it can log into our domain and all that.I just had to reformat one of the computers and would normally wait for our network guy to do it remotely but If i could do it myself it would save time (and money). I am already an administrator and basically i just need to make it so the log in prompt when windows starts has our office network listed as the domain instead of jus the local log in. It is a dell running windows 7 64 bit.

Adding Printer To Wireless Network?

Mar 3, 2011

I am not a tech person, so I apologize if this is a dumb question. Tech supportme because no one wants to comment on if/how to attach equipment manufactured by some other company.I have a wireless home network using a Netgear DGN2280 router/modem. I also have an HP Officejet 5800 printer that I would like to add to the network. This is a USB printer that DOES NOT have a network card of any kind.I have heard of a print server, and know that it obviously has to do with hooking a printer to a network, but don't know if it will work in my application. Will this work for me?I just now noticed that there is a USB port on the back of the router/modem. can I hook my printer up to that port (and leave it hooked up) and print across the wireless network? I don't care if my printer has to be wired to something. I would just prefer that my laptop not have to be wired directly to the printer.

DI-524 - Adding A Wireless Access Point To A Network?

Jan 22, 2013

We have a wireless router, (Dlink DI-524, a couple of years old, and all the cables), and I have a basic knowledge of networking, such as DHCP servers and so on, but I don't know how to set it up. We have a working LAN port, so access isn't a problem. And we know the server address. As much as we'd like the IT dept. to do it, or to at least tell us how, they're unbelievably lazy and won't do either.

Samsung BD-E5500 - Adding Blu-ray Player To Wireless Network

Apr 9, 2012

I have practically NO knowledge of networking! So I've been tearing my hair out trying to get this darn thing sorted but to no avail.So, I've bought a Samsung BD-E5500 blu-ray player which has internet capability either through Ethernet or a Samsung wireless adapter. I am not willing to spend an extra £40-£70 on an adapter and obviously don't relish the idea of running a very long cable to my router upstairs. However the general concensus is that it's possible to take a cable out of the Ethernet and into a wireless AP or router, using it as a bridge to the main wireless router. So I have tried this and failed, of course not having a clue as to what I'm really doing. I have a Netgear ME102 access point which the player can't seem to get on the network with at all and also I have tried using a Belkin F5D7632 wireless router. Now, with the Belkin router the player does say that it can access the network, however it says that it cannot access the internet. The wireless router that I have upstairs is an O2 Wireless Box 3.

DAP-1522 / Adding Wireless Access Point To Wired Network?

Dec 27, 2010

Here's the setup:

DGL-4100 (wired gigabit router)
-> Wii
-> X360
-> PS3
-> DGS-2205 (wired gigabit switch in study)
*-> My PC
*-> Her PC
*-> DAP-1522 (wireless access point/bridge)

Now, we're on the 192.168.1.x domain, and I've already hooked my PC up directly to the DAP-1522 and switched its IP address. So now, I can connect to it through the switch. I've renamed it, set it to WPA2 with a passphrase, and should be set to go. However, I can't get my laptop, IPod touch, or any devices to see it. I tried entering the SSID manually, and nothing can find it.

Netgear WNDR4500 - Adding Wireless Router To Existing Network?

Sep 23, 2012

Added a wireless router to our office here so that people with laptops could get on the net without having to physically plug in. Right now it is ok, but the router is acting as it's own DHCP server instead of our server here assigning out the IP's.

The main gripe I have is I can only login to the router through my phone and not through my computer. How can I achieve this. We have multiple offices that all connect through a VPN. I would like our sys admin to access the router at his location as well.

Do I just turn off DHCP on the router and thats it? The model is Netgear WNDR4500.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 Adding To Network Without Changing Anything On RouteFinder

Jan 5, 2012

I am trying to add the E3000 to my existing network to provide Wireless Connectivity for my users.  The main router is a RouteFinder SOHO VPN (RF560).  The RouteFinder acts as a gateway and provides DHCP.  I do not want to change it's role or settings.  When I added the E3000 using a Lan-to-Lan connection to the RouteFinder, all users lost access to the internet.  As a quick fix as I was working on something else at the time, I just unplugged the E3000.  Now I am reading through Article 3733 that I was originally referred to and that has me changing the settings on the RouteFinder which I do not want to do.  Is there any way to accomplish adding this to my network without changing anything on the RouteFinder at all???  By the way...I am located in another state than this router and network.  I can call and have someone plug and unplug stuff but all of the configuration has to be done remotely.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT400N - Adding Access Point To Existing Network

Oct 26, 2010

I have an existing wireless network using a Cisco/Linksys WRT400N wireless router (which in turn is connected to a cable internet provider). I need to extend my wireless coverage and so purchased a Cisco/Linksys E1000 to act as an additional access point.  Purchased from BB, the local 'geek squad' rep instructed me to follow the users guide for the set up. After login into the admin service on my E1000, I followed the 'Advanced Routing' instructions and disabled the 'NAT' option and subsequently enabled the 'Dynamic Routing (RIP)' option.  Everything worked like a charm to this point, but now I'm stuck. What steps do I need to follow to allow clients to log onto my wirelss network via the E1000 (secondary access point)? I've established WEP security keys on the WRT400N (primary access point) and want to use the same network security parameters on the E1000.

Adding A Non-wireless Network Printer Via Wireless?

Apr 5, 2011

My problem is the whole network (router / switches) is located in one end of the office building and the printer is located in the other end. Its a big multi functional printer with copy, scan etc. At the momemt we have a loooong network cable running on the floor from the one end to the printer.

Unfortunately we dont have an easy way to install cables above the rooms and that way connect the printer via cable to the other end of the building so I need some sort of wireless solution.

The range is approx 20 meters.

I was thinking of installing a wireless router in the printer room and then some wireless adaptors in the pc's (they dont have wireless cards at the moment). But can the pc's have trouble-free connection to both lan and w-lan at the same time ?

Adding A Second Network?

Sep 28, 2012

I'm a newb at this stuff and hope someone will take pity on me and point me in the right direction?In a nutshell, we run a SBS2008 server at work with 20 users. Our company has a domain name which, via DNS hosting is pointed to our static IP. Email address's are handled via the server using Exchange 2007. Documents and files are stored on a data drive on the server (lets call it Server 1). We have now setup a second business with a different domain. I now have 10 users who will need access to the files on Server 1, but will run under a different domain (and need different email addresses) and need to have access to files stored on Server 1 and the new Server 2. The current setup is simple. ADSL comes into the server room and goes to a modem/wireless. From there it goes to the server which handles the DHCP. The server is in turn connected to a 24 port switch which then feeds the workstationsI have access to purchase another server and whatever hardware is required. No amount of Googling matches my scenario hence my question. What I'm really after is a mudmap showing setup or the right way to set this up

Home Network :: Add Printers To Local Wireless Network Without Sharing From Computer

Mar 3, 2012

I have a home network running all Mac computers (though can run Windows VM if necessary) and a pair of USB printers. The wireless router and cable modem are in one room, but the printers are in another. I'd like to find the most practical way to add the printers to the local wireless network without sharing them from a computer. I've tried that for a while, but don't want to leave a laptop connected 24/7 just to enable wireless printing (rather defeats the purpose of a portable computer). I don't have any wired network lines in the home, and am not excited by the idea of running any cables.
