Adding New Computer To Wireless Router Netgear / Invalid Mac Address
Apr 21, 2012
I am trying to add a new computer to my wireless statione access list but have not been successful. I got the ip address of the computer i was trying to add, my issue is how to add it to the list. i tried adding the details and filling in the device name and MAC address but kept getting the error message "invalid MAC address.please enter again.
Added a wireless router to our office here so that people with laptops could get on the net without having to physically plug in. Right now it is ok, but the router is acting as it's own DHCP server instead of our server here assigning out the IP's.
The main gripe I have is I can only login to the router through my phone and not through my computer. How can I achieve this. We have multiple offices that all connect through a VPN. I would like our sys admin to access the router at his location as well.
Do I just turn off DHCP on the router and thats it? The model is Netgear WNDR4500.
I have a router that is not wireless that I have three computers running from by ethernet and attached to that a wireless router without any ethernet ports. I have mac addressed access only set up and need to add a device to the wireless. However I can not access the wireless router from my computer which is plugged into the other router.
I'm trying to connect a latop (Packard Bell - Easy Note) onto a Netgear N300 wireless router (WNR2000v3).I have already connected a separate laptop which is working fine but the Packard Bell (about 6 years old) wont connect, it will detect my wireless network but then asks for a "Network Key".I'm assuming this the same password that I set up when I configured the router but when I enter it I get the following message:The network password needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on your network configeration. This can be entered as 5 or 13ascii characters or 10 or 16 hexadecimal characters".
I recently bought a Motorola SurfBoard SB5101U Cable Modem and a MediaLink Wireless-N Router (Model NO.: MWN-WAPR150N). Just yesterday, Charter Internet hooked up the internet for my apartment. It works just fine when I only have the modem connected, but when I add the router, the internet disconnects.I have tried changing the router's IP.Here's the ipconfig /all for only the modem:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. C:UsersMatthew>ipconfig /all
I have a Netgear wireless router that is connected to my desktop in my house to broadcast wireless throughout. However, the main computer is hooked up to an ethernet cord for a hardwired LAN connection. For some reason, my desktop will constantly disconnect from LAN and switch to wireless, back to LAN to wireless etc.
aptop ,i just buy wireless netgear router for wireless net range but it does not work .its saw me the router acess point but some how my internet not connecting . its connecting with linsys but not with my router. its something which i can do ? am thinking of security system on the netgear properties
Have two other computers that connect with ease to the Netgear wireless router, but the new computer will not access the internet. I have been searching for answers and have tried about everything I can find nuder similar posts, but I still have not internet access. At varying times, I have had "internet access", but no actual ability to load websites. Right now, I do not even have access. I am at a loss.Even at my low level of experience, I am usually able to tinker until I fix the problem, but I am about four hours in and currently seem to have taken a step backward. I cannot even begin to explain what things I have already tried
I have a NetGear WNR-1000 wireless G router. I currently only have 1 computer hooked up but I have had 3 computers hooked up to it before. It doesn't matter what internet it's connected to or how it's connected to the modem itself. I have had DSL and Cable hooked up to it and I am currently using it as a secondary router behind my roommates old Wireless B router. He currently has all of his things hooked up via ethernet and wirelessly to his router. So, im download the xirrus wifi inspector thing. It doesn't matter the OS either. I've had XP sp3, vista, and 7 all hooked to it and it's the same all the way around and it doesn't matter the kind of wireless card either!
the pc im trying to connect to a wireless network was previously on but when the OS was changed it failed to connect back on the network. what should i do?
I'm trying to connect another computer to our household wireless network. I have the security key but I can't get a window to come up asking for it when I click on our family network. How do I get a box to come up asking for the key?
I have made a test lab on packet tracer with three routers in triangle shape after each router i connected a switch with on each switch four end devices . now i want to make a routing table on each router, but the probleme is that each time i get an error "invalid next hop address ( its this router)". i am sure its the right gateway i type in .
I tried to configure my wifi router recently to secure my internet connection. I wanted to add a MAC adress filter, but I had to leave before I could enter them all. I thought that I wouldn't have to enter my own MAC adress since I'm directly connected to the router with a wire, but it looks like I should have entered my MAC adress, because now I can't get access to my router by typing the IP adress, as usual. I tried to reset it, but it doesn't work.
My PC says "invalid IP address" when I try to connect. It says the IP address is 00:00:00:00. it only does this on the computer but works fine on all our laptops. I've been googleing solutions and i have tried the 'ipconfig/release' and 'ipconfig/renew' but this doesn't work. It just comes up with a error (I think its because the computer cant connect). We use a Belkin wireless connector. Its windows xp.
I have a Netgear CGD24G Wireless Gateway and a Gateway MA8 laptop with after-market Windows 7 (Vista got a virus, went ahead and upgraded.)Now, when I download 100 MB files on my Xbox 360 (Which is wired to the modem) it will be downloaded in a couple minutes, or less. The other computers in my house (There are plenty, and even more that come and go.) get a blazing internet connection, and most of them are wireless. Now this computer, which had an extremely quick connection as well all of a sudden dropped off, while the rest of the computers remain fast.I've gone to Speedtest.net before and after this occurred and my speed before was around 12 mb/s, and one time around 4 AM was even upward of 25 mb/s, all of these tests were performed multiple times on different server locations. I JUST did the speedtest, and it came back with .4 mb/s, and the UL speed was 2.0. I honestly can't remember what I averaged with it prior to the problem, but it was definitely higher as well
My laptop running Windows 7 has been fine until this holiday, connected to a hotel wifi that "trapped" the broswer and requested a login and password. That worked fine, but now I cannot access any other wifi networks. It sits for a while after entering the code and then has limited access, running the troubleshooter it says that I have no valid IP address?Tried IPCONFIG /RELEASE and it is saying "No operation can be performed on Local Connection 2 while it has its media disconnected"
We have an ADSL connection and use a D-Link DSL-320B modem. We have a D-Link DIR-120 router connected to this modem. This has worked perfectly fine up until today when we disconnected the router and connected a computer (call it A) directly to the modem because it was getting an unusable connection through the router for some reason. We later also performed a factory reset on the DIR-120 router.
Unfortunately, after the above steps the router did not receive any IP address (through DHCP) from the ADSL connection anymore. During my attempts to debug this I noticed that my laptop (call it B) didn't get any IP address either (when connected directly to the modem). I noticed the following syslog entries repeating over and over while trying to connect: [code]
At this point computer A could still get a connection just fine tho (when connected directly to the modem).
I then tried to change the MAC address of the router to an arbitrary one (a copy of computer B's MAC address but with the last digit increased by one). The router still did not get assigned any IP address. Finally I tried making the router clone the MAC address of a third computer (call it C). C has never been connected directly to the modem. Doing this worked. After cloning the MAC address of computer C the router is immediately assigned an IP address and the internet connection works as it did prior to all this.
Now, my question is, why would computer B and the original MAC address of the router not be able to get an IP address while two other computers worked just fine? Why would changing to an arbitrary MAC address not work while cloning the MAC address of another computer did? Could the router's MAC address have been blocked by the ISP for some reason (and what could cause this)?
but my situation seems more like a blacklisting of some MAC addresses rather then allowing just a single MAC address.
I have a Netgear N150 Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router(DGN1000) which i need to connect for wireless access..My internet connection is a wireless one(antenna connected on roof) connection available to only one computer with an RJ45 LAN.Is it possible for me to connect the router to this LAN cable and get internet on more than one computer at a time?? I have the following information
IP : Subnet : Default Gateway : Primary DNS : Secondary DNS : MAC of the Registered Computer :
There are 6 computers in our home network. It happens every few months or so that router would not assign valid IP address to one of the computers. So, most of the time everything works well, but there comes a moment when one of the computers (but not others) can't get valid IP address. We try turning off and then on the router and it solves the problem most of the time. But, there are cases when turning off and on the router won't solve the problem.
howdy,im having trouble with my LAC.it just keeps identifying.i have tried everything,uninstall/reinstall, netsh winsock reset, netsh int ip reset,disable/enable.windows diagnostics comes back with invalid ip address, and modem hardware failure.device manager lists the network adapter as working, yet it doesn't here's my ipconfig[CODE]
I installed the 2.06NA on my DIR-655 router and now I'm having problems adding mac addresses to the network filter. The message is "Invalid MAC address". Of course, it doesn't tell me which entry is invalid and I have a number of them. After further checking.. I noticed that one of the MAC addresses is indeed invalid and when I remove it I still get the error message?
I am unable to reserve an IP for my iPad, i.e. add my ipad to the "DHCP RESERVATIONS LIST". I get a pop-up saying "The MAC Address entered is invalid." The address starts with "D8". My understanding is most start w/ "00". The router says my firmware is up-to-date (3.01).
I had no problem running both 2.4 and 5.0 Bandwidth. With WiFi password and without. It does it's job. The 2.4Ghz Range Plus works. I have set up the router on the 2nd floor at the highest it can go. And everyone get's full bars all over the house. I even get 4-5 bars outside in my car on my phone.
The only issue I have with this thing is a damn new netbook I got for Christmas with a Mac Address starting with 0C-EE-E6-XX-XX-XX. The Router finds the Mac Address invalid. In which I can come to understand cause seeing a Mac Address starting like that is completely new to me. Every Mac Address I have, started with 00 except the netbook. So now, I spent days trying to find firmware updates, patches, anything! I even attempted to spoof the Mac Address on the netbook but Microsoft has a bug on Windows 7. (I have the Starter Edition that came with the netbook)
Windows 7 Mac Spoofing works with WIRED Connection. But it does not work with WIRELESS Connection. I used 3rd Party Tools: SMAC and etc... I attempted Registry Edits, I changed even the value key to the "Orginal Mac Address" and it just wont change [New Strings/Network Address Edits included]. I have been banging my head about this for a week now. The Internets has many answers but they did not work. So Spoofing the Mac Address is out of the question. Until Microsoft fixes this bug.
Anyway: Did D-Link release any sort of beta update/driver/firmware or anything to resolve this at all? Is there a modded firmware to force the Router to take this stupid paradox of a Mac Address?
Currently: I have the Router's WiFi Password-ed with Default Factory Settings {Hardware Version: B1 Firmware Version: 2.02NA}.
Issue: When I attempt to save the changes I made to the DHCP reservation list I get an error window that reads:
http:\201.201.201.201 (my internal router IP address - changed from 192.168.0.1) Host name Invalid I have a DHCP Range setup as 201.201.201.100 to 201.201.201.199
I'm attempting to reserve an IP address of 201.201.201.199 for one of the computers on my network.
I can see the computer on the dir825 router and am connecting to it through a linksys wrtgs working as a repeater bridge running dd-wrt. The computer in question is successfully getting it's IP address from the dhcp server on the dlink router.
The dir825 is running 2.05na firmware. Why am I unable to reserve an IP address?
I'm tryng to configure a vpn with a cisco small business pro router, model srp527W-k9-g5 But when i try to set the “remote ip” in Remote traffic selection a I have to set (10.0.0.0) a message said:
“Invalid IP Address Format”
If i change the ip and i put 10.0.0.1 i have not error but I have to put 10.0.0.0 and if i configure it on a cisco WRV210 (por example) i have no error.
I have a Netgear WNR612 wireless router, which worked fine for a few weeks. Then something happened and I can't keep the connection anymore. It happened right after I used iTunes to update my iPhone, perhaps a coincidence, but I'm mentioning that just in case. Internet still works fine with ethernet cable straight from the computer, only the wireless connection doesn't work. This happened about a month ago and I haven't been at home much to fix the problem. I have turned off and unplugged everything for several days at a time while gone. I get a Network Error message saying, Windows has detected an IP address conflict. I have tried restoring the router back to factory settings and reinstalling the wireless card. I have tried changing the IP address settings both in the Network and Sharing Center and the router admin page. What I think I should do is change the IP address in Command Prompt, but when I type "ipconfig /release", it says "No operation can be performed on Wireless Network Connection 2 while it has its media disconnected" and the same for Local Area Connection. I don't understand what this means, because there is a wireless key in my keyboard and there is a white light (not orange) like there should be. Also in the Network and Sharing Center, I can see that the connections are enabled.
One of our Cat5513 has been displaying a lot of the error message below:
%SYS-4-P2_WARN: 8/Invalid traffic from multicast source address 01:00:5a:52:4c:4d on port 8/58
The frequency of this is quite disturbing. What this error is about? Module no.8 is our Gigabit Ethernet WS-X5410. Can that multicast address be mapped to an IP address or unicast mac-addresS? How can i go about resolving this?
I have two computers. The first is a laptop running Vista and connects to the internet just fine. The second is a desktop running XP. I have a network adapter on the desktop and although it DOES find my network, I cannot get it to connect to the internet. I type in the correct passkey and it just goes on trying to connect, saying that it is acquiring a network address but no connection
Most of the 4500 Switches in our network are giving the similar error for so many ports
%C4K_L2MAN-6-INVALIDSOURCEADDRESSPACKET: (Suppressed 1 times)Packet received with invalid source MAC address (00:00:00:00:00:00) on p t Gi2/6 in vlan 100
