I have a home network that is up and running. It consists of a cable modem, a non-wireless router and two computers.My cable provider provides me with two DHCP IP addresses that are pingable on the Internet.I would like to connect a second router to my network and give it the second DHCP IP address that my Internet providers gives me.

It works fine without securing the router with a key, but I don't want my neighbors stealing my Internet bandwidth.
I am somewhat of a neophyte at networking and I have a question. I have a small business network using a secure wireless router connected to my cable modem. We have a DVR security system which we would like to monitor remotely. I would like to keep the DVR separate from my secure wireless router for security reasons. My thought is to connect the DVR through a cable or wired modem into my cable modem. Do you folks think this will cause an issue with the wireless router which uses DHCP to determine the IP address?

It run flawlessly even when I switch from DSL to Comcast Internet.My printer (HP All-in-one) is currently attached to the rear of my desktop and if I want to print anything I have to fire up the desktop. Can I plug the printer in the WRT 110? Be able to print form my laptops?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAdded a wireless router to our office here so that people with laptops could get on the net without having to physically plug in. Right now it is ok, but the router is acting as it's own DHCP server instead of our server here assigning out the IP's.
The main gripe I have is I can only login to the router through my phone and not through my computer. How can I achieve this. We have multiple offices that all connect through a VPN. I would like our sys admin to access the router at his location as well.
Do I just turn off DHCP on the router and thats it? The model is Netgear WNDR4500.
on my home network I currently only run an Airlink101 AR675W router. We have a couple issues with this. The router for one is in my basement and there are points in my house that have low signal strength, especially upstairs in the far corners of the home. Second is I am currently running my home PC as a media center but it is set-up wirlessly so streaming is clunky and jittery. Also on this network is 3 X-box's wired, a PS3 running wirless, 2 PC's wired in, 2 wirless laptops and the afore mentioned wirless PC. A lot of weight for the network. What I want to do is move the router upstairs, hardwire it into my wireless PC (the one doing the streaming) and connect a second router (an identical make and model I am buying this weekend) downstairs which will be basically used as an "expansion" of the wirless and a switch for the hardwired devices downstairs. would this be better than simply moving the wirless router upstairs (hardwiring my PC) and putting a 5 or 8 port switch in downstairs for the X-box's and 2 wired PC's there?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to add the E3000 to my existing network to provide Wireless Connectivity for my users. The main router is a RouteFinder SOHO VPN (RF560). The RouteFinder acts as a gateway and provides DHCP. I do not want to change it's role or settings. When I added the E3000 using a Lan-to-Lan connection to the RouteFinder, all users lost access to the internet. As a quick fix as I was working on something else at the time, I just unplugged the E3000. Now I am reading through Article 3733 that I was originally referred to and that has me changing the settings on the RouteFinder which I do not want to do. Is there any way to accomplish adding this to my network without changing anything on the RouteFinder at all??? By the way...I am located in another state than this router and network. I can call and have someone plug and unplug stuff but all of the configuration has to be done remotely.

I need to extend my wireless coverage and so purchased a Cisco/Linksys E1000 to act as an additional access point. Purchased from BB, the local 'geek squad' rep instructed me to follow the users guide for the set up. After login into the admin service on my E1000, I followed the 'Advanced Routing' instructions and disabled the 'NAT' option and subsequently enabled the 'Dynamic Routing (RIP)' option. Everything worked like a charm to this point, but now I'm stuck. What steps do I need to follow to allow clients to log onto my wirelss network via the E1000 (secondary access point)? I've established WEP security keys on the WRT400N (primary access point) and want to use the same network security parameters on the E1000.

Our company has a domain name which, via DNS hosting is pointed to our static IP. Email address's are handled via the server using Exchange 2007. Documents and files are stored on a data drive on the server (lets call it Server 1). We have now setup a second business with a different domain. I now have 10 users who will need access to the files on Server 1, but will run under a different domain (and need different email addresses) and need to have access to files stored on Server 1 and the new Server 2. The current setup is simple. ADSL comes into the server room and goes to a modem/wireless. From there it goes to the server which handles the DHCP. The server is in turn connected to a 24 port switch which then feeds the workstationsI have access to purchase another server and whatever hardware is required. No amount of Googling matches my scenario hence my question. What I'm really after is a mudmap showing setup or the right way to set this up

This is a USB printer that DOES NOT have a network card of any kind.I have heard of a print server, and know that it obviously has to do with hooking a printer to a network, but don't know if it will work in my application. Will this work for me?I just now noticed that there is a USB port on the back of the router/modem. can I hook my printer up to that port (and leave it hooked up) and print across the wireless network? I don't care if my printer has to be wired to something. I would just prefer that my laptop not have to be wired directly to the printer.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a win xp system which connects to internal network & Internet. The problem I have is, for each work i need to change the IP address.
Ex: For internal network the ip should be 192.168.0.1 To connect to internet the ip should be 192.168.1.1
Now I want to be connected to both internal network as well as internet at the same time. So what should I do ?
* I can not add another physical network card.
* I can not change the IP's of any other system or config servers etc... (as it is used by our internal application, doing so will make a mess.)
* I have the admin rights so any software changes to my system can be done.
So i was hoping to add a virtual network card, and configure it to the new IP. So can that be done ? if so how ?
If you look at my attachment it shows a thousand words; but basically I have a 4 port Thompson ADSL modem/router which handles the DHCP, and plugged into this are my main PC which I use to serve video files and music to my PS3 - which is connected to the same router but via a switch.The WIFI on the Thompson modem is switched off.In this scenario alone (NO Belkin wireless access point) my media plays beautifully via PS3 Media Server.However the moment I connect the Belkin into the switch as well, it plays havoc with the wired connection speed between the PC and PS3, dropping it to near unplayable speeds. Massive video stutters, music stops etc. I measured it using a PC on the end of the cable instead of the PS3 and it came out at about 1.4Mbps using 'LAN Speed Test'[CODE]

We have a working LAN port, so access isn't a problem. And we know the server address. I have 6 cisco switches already on my network and I just got a 2960S PoE switch that I need to enable for VoIP. The voice vendor is coming in to setup our phone system for VoIP and I need to enable this new 2960S 48 port switch for the VoIP phones, I don't know how to do that, or other taskes needed for this project.
I was told that I need to uplink the new 2960S with the Catalysy 4507R using an ethernet cable and to "trunk the ports" and enable the 2960S as a VTP client - ok great - how?
I was told I also need to use the switch port voice VLAN command for the new VLAN - again, great - but how?
I actually was able to telnet into the switch and I gave it an IP and I created a new vlan but thats all. We are using non Cisco IP phones.
I have a Linksys WRT54G2 router upstairs in my house that wirelessly reaches the entire house. I also just bought a Linksys Valet Plus M20 that will be my router once I get it in the mail. The problem is I want to hook up my downstairs Satellite receiver to the internet but it only has a LAN port. I cannot run a LAN cable downstairs. Is there any way to link these routers up wirelessly and then run a LAN cable to my SAT receiver? Or do I need to buy a different product?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHere's the deal. My internet provider provided me with a shitty router with a lot of settings locked. I can't change DHCP settings or add custom static IP addresses. This sucks. The wireless function on it sucks also.I added an extra router to the network so I have good Wifi in my living room. I turned off the NAT, firewall and DHCP on that one, so it's a simple switch with a wireless access point now.Now here's the deal. The DHCP server of the provider's router hands out IP's from 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.2.253 (192.168.2.254 is the router's own IP address).I gave the added switch/access point the IP address 192.168.1.1 in its own settings. The original router doesn't 'see' the switch now anymore because it's out of the DHCP's range. When I gave it an IP address within the DHCP's IP range, I got all kinds of conflicts (as expected).
I guess this is a solution since it works, but I'm open to other suggestions since it doesn't seem to be the best way of doing things. Besides, I can't access the access point's web interface anymore since it doesn't have an IP address within the network now. It isn't important because I don't need to change any settings anymore, but still.I'm going to add a second wireless router to replace the built-in wireless function of the provider's router. For some reason it sees its own wireless network as a separate network or something. When I roam from the new access point wifi to the provider router's wifi, everything gets confused because it tries to give the laptop a new IP address.
I am attempting to install a D-LINK DWL3200 into my office network. I can't for the life of me get into the router though to change the password and name!I've read through various forums about running ipconfig and that giving me the gateway - However, we main router where the internet runs through so the IP address of the gateway is the main router! The default IP address listed on several forums is 192.168.0.50, but as everything in this network has an IP .50 is a printer!

So I've been tearing my hair out trying to get this darn thing sorted but to no avail.So, I've bought a Samsung BD-E5500 blu-ray player which has internet capability either through Ethernet or a Samsung wireless adapter. I am not willing to spend an extra £40-£70 on an adapter and obviously don't relish the idea of running a very long cable to my router upstairs. However the general concensus is that it's possible to take a cable out of the Ethernet and into a wireless AP or router, using it as a bridge to the main wireless router. So I have tried this and failed, of course not having a clue as to what I'm really doing. I have a Netgear ME102 access point which the player can't seem to get on the network with at all and also I have tried using a Belkin F5D7632 wireless router. Now, with the Belkin router the player does say that it can access the network, however it says that it cannot access the internet. The wireless router that I have upstairs is an O2 Wireless Box 3.
