I have DSL from verizon and the modem is also a router with wireless n capability. i want to add my old belkin router to the system via a hardline to the verizon one. i need to know if this will cause a conflict between the 2 routers.
View 4 RepliesI work most of the time at home so my work installed a WatchGuard Firebox SOHO 6 router at my place so they could make a secure VPN connection between my laptop and my work.All the other computers and gaming consoles at my home are also connected to this router. They both have the same network name (e.g. the wifi network is named 'apple', and when i connect through ethernet in my room the name is also 'apple') I need to have wifi in my room. So, if i get a router and connect it to the ethernet port in my room's wall, would that work? Is that all you have to do or is there some other stuff i should know about?also can i put a password on it? And also, will it carry the network traffic of the common room?(if two people are using the common room's wifi, will the wifi speed in my room be affected nd whatnot) i have a linksys router lying around at home (the blue one with the double antennas, everyones seen them, and the one in the common room is the same...wireless g)

Router 1 is main modem router, which is connected to 2 pcs and 2 wif routers (wired separately), both of these wifi routers have there own ip address and dchp turned off, so they work fine and broadcast wifi nicely. now what i want to do is connect another wifi router to one of these routers (not the main one) but what setting do i need? i tried to connect the 3rd wifi router with the same setting as per the other two ie diff ip and dchp off, but when i plugged it into the port of the second router it would not show as connected or get an internet connection. Its probably quite simple to sort out, but with me being a dimwit i am tering my air out. If i could not use a wifi router for this 3rd connection, is there any other way of putting an extra 4 ports on to my second stage router.

I am somewhat of a neophyte at networking and I have a question. I have a small business network using a secure wireless router connected to my cable modem. We have a DVR security system which we would like to monitor remotely. I would like to keep the DVR separate from my secure wireless router for security reasons. My thought is to connect the DVR through a cable or wired modem into my cable modem. Do you folks think this will cause an issue with the wireless router which uses DHCP to determine the IP address?

It run flawlessly even when I switch from DSL to Comcast Internet.My printer (HP All-in-one) is currently attached to the rear of my desktop and if I want to print anything I have to fire up the desktop. Can I plug the printer in the WRT 110? Be able to print form my laptops?

The main gripe I have is I can only login to the router through my phone and not through my computer. How can I achieve this. We have multiple offices that all connect through a VPN. I would like our sys admin to access the router at his location as well.
Do I just turn off DHCP on the router and thats it? The model is Netgear WNDR4500.
on my home network I currently only run an Airlink101 AR675W router. We have a couple issues with this. The router for one is in my basement and there are points in my house that have low signal strength, especially upstairs in the far corners of the home. Second is I am currently running my home PC as a media center but it is set-up wirlessly so streaming is clunky and jittery. Also on this network is 3 X-box's wired, a PS3 running wirless, 2 PC's wired in, 2 wirless laptops and the afore mentioned wirless PC. A lot of weight for the network. What I want to do is move the router upstairs, hardwire it into my wireless PC (the one doing the streaming) and connect a second router (an identical make and model I am buying this weekend) downstairs which will be basically used as an "expansion" of the wirless and a switch for the hardwired devices downstairs. would this be better than simply moving the wirless router upstairs (hardwiring my PC) and putting a 5 or 8 port switch in downstairs for the X-box's and 2 wired PC's there?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to add the E3000 to my existing network to provide Wireless Connectivity for my users. The main router is a RouteFinder SOHO VPN (RF560). The RouteFinder acts as a gateway and provides DHCP. I do not want to change it's role or settings. When I added the E3000 using a Lan-to-Lan connection to the RouteFinder, all users lost access to the internet. As a quick fix as I was working on something else at the time, I just unplugged the E3000. Now I am reading through Article 3733 that I was originally referred to and that has me changing the settings on the RouteFinder which I do not want to do. Is there any way to accomplish adding this to my network without changing anything on the RouteFinder at all??? By the way...I am located in another state than this router and network. I can call and have someone plug and unplug stuff but all of the configuration has to be done remotely.

I need to extend my wireless coverage and so purchased a Cisco/Linksys E1000 to act as an additional access point. Purchased from BB, the local 'geek squad' rep instructed me to follow the users guide for the set up. After login into the admin service on my E1000, I followed the 'Advanced Routing' instructions and disabled the 'NAT' option and subsequently enabled the 'Dynamic Routing (RIP)' option. Everything worked like a charm to this point, but now I'm stuck. What steps do I need to follow to allow clients to log onto my wirelss network via the E1000 (secondary access point)? I've established WEP security keys on the WRT400N (primary access point) and want to use the same network security parameters on the E1000.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a RV042 with a DSL (static IP) and a cable connection (Dynamic). How do I get the extra bandwidth from the cable and still keep the static IP of the DSL. When I have the router set on WAN1 (DSL), I get buffering. When I set the router on WAN2, I lose the static IP and therefore, the stream. When I have the router set on Load Balance, it switches the IP back and forth between the static DSL and the Dynamic cable.

When I use RDP to connect to another computer, I noticed that on the remote computer (sometimes) as well as on my local machine (always), it creates a "Z:" drive. It isn't like a mapped network drive though, it shows under Hard Disk Drives. The free space is the same as the C: drive. When you open it, it is the %TEMP% folder on my machine. Going to the run command and typing %TEMP% will show you the same contents as the Z: drive. When I close the RD Connection, the Z drive goes away. I have no clue what is causing this and I did a little searching and couldn't find anything that resembled anything close to this online. I saw the same thing happen on a Win XP machine earlier as well.

Therefore we cannot increase the MTU to support the extra four-bytes of VLAN tag. We have tried 15.2 and 15.1 code. May be the command is different. I'm about to go and do some digging elsewhere.The card is EHWIC-4ESG.

Our company has a domain name which, via DNS hosting is pointed to our static IP. Email address's are handled via the server using Exchange 2007. Documents and files are stored on a data drive on the server (lets call it Server 1). We have now setup a second business with a different domain. I now have 10 users who will need access to the files on Server 1, but will run under a different domain (and need different email addresses) and need to have access to files stored on Server 1 and the new Server 2. The current setup is simple. ADSL comes into the server room and goes to a modem/wireless. From there it goes to the server which handles the DHCP. The server is in turn connected to a 24 port switch which then feeds the workstationsI have access to purchase another server and whatever hardware is required. No amount of Googling matches my scenario hence my question. What I'm really after is a mudmap showing setup or the right way to set this up

Question: as there is only the single cable going to the basement could I link the PS3 using a hub? I have a small Netgear hub left over from years ago would this work? But for the 5585X It says 2Gbps for SSP10 engine but I have seen in the Dynamic Configuration Tool that SSP10 and IPS-SSP10 are different things . Which means that I will have to order 2 service engines SSP10 and IPS SSP10 to get the IPS features and if I only order SSP10 with that Chasis I will only get firewalling ?
I would like 3 PC's to share a printer. I have purchased a Samsung 320N for this and also a usb print server. I also have a Belkin router from which the 3 PC's are connected via ethernet for broadband.Can I install the print server software on one machine or does it have to be installed on all the PC's?Am i correct in thinking that the printer will be connected to the print server via an ethernet cable and the print server will be connected to a PC via usb?
