View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently set up a an external hard drive as a UPnP media server through my router. My media devices and my computer can see the drive fine. My question is, what is the best way to add files to the drive? It seems like a hassle to plug it into a computer directly every time I want to add more files, and FTP is kind of clunky. Is there any sort of software I can put on the drive or any better way to drop files onto it?I'm using a Seagate 2TB USB Drive formatted as FAT32 connected to a lemonade-equipped Westell 7501 router. I understand that it may be that I'm trying to get too high tech with my $7 router, but it seems that there should be a better solution.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe got a 1921 router that works fine. We ordered Verizon Businss One Static IP ADSL. It came with a Westell Modem that we configured in bridge mode. When we do a test by assigning a static IP to our laptop then hook it up to the Westell it works fine. We can browse the web. Then when we assign a static IP to the Ethernet on our 1921 then connect it to the Westell it doesn't work. We can't ping out from the router to for example 4.2.2.2. From the router we can't even ping the default gateway (on Verizon's side).
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a Vigor ADSL modem linked to a hub that then links to 3 pc's and 2 printers all via ethernet. Connection to the outside world is fine.
A few weeks ago the IT geek decided to switch the modem from DHCP to PPPoA and put each pc & printer on fixed IPs. The Vigor is also on a static IP.
This therefore cut off our link to the Linksys WRTG54 we have in a different room serving as a wireless router.
The Linksys is/was connected via ethernet to port 1, port 2 direct to laptop. Wireless worked fine until they changed to static IP etc on the Vigor, now we only have ethernet to the laptop and no Wireless.
What do we need to do at the Linksys end to get wireless working again?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI found my old Westell modem/router that was through Verizon DSL, but I don't have Verizon anymore, and I have Service Electric. I had asked my questions over at DSLReports, and they said Westell could be used as a Ethernet router, but they still doesn't fully answer my questions. The Westell modem/router model is A90-750015-07. I only have a modem through Service Electric. My questions are could this Westell modem/router be used as a separate wireless only router? Like, the D-link, and Linksys sells wireless routers, right? People could connect to it, or people could enable WPA for more secured? Could this modem/router act as wireless without the need of a DSL link through Verizon? I know on some wireless routers others are able to connect the modem to router using a WAN port, and then router to PC using a LAN port. However, I did not see any ports on this Westell for LAN and WAN. I'll show what I see from left to right.

I have tried using the D-link CD and instructions without any success. Everytime it prompts me for my 1st router's (the Westell's) login/password, it says it's invalid. If I then click to continue w/o the logon and password, it then gives me an error when it is trying to add the d-link. I have tried everything. My Westell IP is 192.168.1.1. How can I access and add the d-link routers? Is there an easier way?

When I take it to my summer house, I can connect wirelessly initially to a Westell VersaLink model# B90-327W15-06 router, but by the end of the first day I lose my connection and cannot connect unless I direct cable to modem. When I return home, it works fine again. The next time I visited my summer house, the same thing has happened. I worked with my IP support tech to try and resolve this issue to no avail. My husband's MACbook has no problem connecting wirelessly. The IP support tech had me enter the router's IP address to acess the router. When the Westell screen came up, no matter what menu option I clicked on the screen did not respond. My IP support person suggested I download firmware from the Westell site.I am not sure what to download - is it 'triggering' or 'forwarding' firmware?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 3 Kindles (2 Kindles with keyboards and 1 kindle touch) that have wifi and they were working fine until our 2Wire router died and we got a new Westell DSL Wireless Gateway from ATT (model: B90-755025-15). All of our other wireless devices are working fine (Ipods, laptop, Ipad) with the new wireless router, but the Kindles will now not connect to our wifi network. I type in the same network key that I did for the other devices but it doesn't work. Amazon said all sofware was up to date on the kindles and it is a problem with the settings on the router because they were working before we got the router. AT&T won't work for me because they say the other devices are working so it must be a problem with the Kindles. Is there a setting I can change on the router or does the Westell router just not work with the Kindles?

I know the number of ports can easily be expanded using a switch, but is it possible to buy a piece of hardware which could be plugged into the router to broadcast a wireless signal as well? I have looked quite thoroughly for anything that could do this but I`m pretty new to networking
View 7 Replies View RelatedShe has comcast xfinity with a the SMCD3GNV router which if you ever look it up has the worst wireless signal imaginable and I can second that. I was hoping to not have to touch the SMCD3GNV router and just add on to it by attaching a secondary router as a wap. What I plan to do (which I am sure has been exasterbated in forums but just want clarity) was to disable DHCP on the new n router ( cheaper than official wap) and set ip out of SMCD3GNV router DHCP ip range but in same subnet mask so probably 192.168.1.2. Then connect the SMCD3GNV router to the new router via ethernet and dont use wan port. Is this basically all I have to do? Do I need to change the channels on either devices since their next to eachother? or will them being next to eachother and same channel cause interference? I have read I can call comcast and turn the smcd3gnv into a bridge ( plain modem) but I would rather avoid calling them and see if 2 wireless access points next to eachother is okay. Also, I plan on doing this by going to microcenter.com and getting a router for 24.99 or less with a coupon I have. Is there any on their website that you would recommend for this setup? Also if you could check the wap on their website and see if you think its worth it to get one of those instead if under that price as well. I want to utilize wireless n signal . Also, the xfinity service she has is rated for 50mbps download and cannot remember the upload , I have tested this wired and it does actually achieve this or greater.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was trying to work with a friend set up his wireless router. He had the Geeksquad come and set it up and I have no idea what they did. A mess of wires. I noticed that I was able to log into the imbeded browser of the modem and the router from the main PC. I didn't think it was possible to log into the modem if it was set up in bridged ethernet mode. His internet is working but I was thinking that he may have problems with double NATing.Basically, I just want to know what options there are for setting up a router to a modem. I'm aware of bridged mode and setting up the router as a switch (not real knowledgable of this one). Seems like DHCP is enabled on both devices.

I've tried sequencing, turning off my modem/router/pc while waiting two minutes in between each step but it doesn't work. I'm 100% sure the log in and password information to log in is correct (I use PPPoE to access the internet). Okay, I know there has to be something I'm doing wrong because 3 months ago I set up the same modem & router to work. Being the idiot I am, I reset my router to change the password (dumb I know) and now the router can't pass the internet signal from the modem on! 1. I've set the modem to bride/bridge and unchecked the private LAN box.release/renewed IP2. Used the modem's MAC address in the router. . Made sure DHCP set to obtain automatically.4. Reset, restarted seperately multiple times. It looks like from the status page that the router is obtaining an IP but it won't connect to the internet
