View 2 Replies View RelatedI found my old Westell modem/router that was through Verizon DSL, but I don't have Verizon anymore, and I have Service Electric. I had asked my questions over at DSLReports, and they said Westell could be used as a Ethernet router, but they still doesn't fully answer my questions. The Westell modem/router model is A90-750015-07. I only have a modem through Service Electric. My questions are could this Westell modem/router be used as a separate wireless only router? Like, the D-link, and Linksys sells wireless routers, right? People could connect to it, or people could enable WPA for more secured? Could this modem/router act as wireless without the need of a DSL link through Verizon? I know on some wireless routers others are able to connect the modem to router using a WAN port, and then router to PC using a LAN port. However, I did not see any ports on this Westell for LAN and WAN. I'll show what I see from left to right.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are using a Westell 7500 wireless modem/router from Frontier without any problemsI have two d-link wireless n300 routers that I want to add to network so I can add them to our DirecTV DVR's. I have tried using the D-link CD and instructions without any success. Everytime it prompts me for my 1st router's (the Westell's) login/password, it says it's invalid. If I then click to continue w/o the logon and password, it then gives me an error when it is trying to add the d-link. I have tried everything. My Westell IP is 192.168.1.1. How can I access and add the d-link routers? Is there an easier way?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI started out with a wireless router/modem that my ISP provides as its default modem. It was and still is working fine. We will call this router A. My uncle who is living with me wasn't receiving the wifi signal in his room so he went and bought a different router that is supposed to have more range. Also, I believe it is capable of providing higher speeds wirelessly, but that is really irrelevant I think. We can call this new router B. I currently have router B running through router A with an ethernet cable into a LAN port- LAN port to LAN port. I basically want B to be a wireless range extender. My question is quite simple actually. I have everything up and running just fine, but it seems as if the wireless signal may still be coming from the old router A.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a wireless modem but its a sucky one. It was one of those free ones from verizon. Anyways, I don't get good signal in certain places in my house, so i am interested in knowing which would be better a wifi range extender or a good wireless modem.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI first want to say I "think" I might be posting in the wrong forums for this question, but because I'm not really sure what the proper terminology for this is, I thought it best to ask here.
I have recently upgraded my router for my home network from an old Linksys WRT54GS G router, to a new E2500 N router. I have heard/read that it is possible to reconfiqure my old router to act as a range extender for my network but I am unclear how to do so. I think this may be the same thing as an access point, but all the FAQ's I've found seem to have this work as a solo device, not as a device on existing network. I have my e2500 setup with the modem in my study and broadcasting from there, and would like to use my old G router set up as a range extender to be located in the front living room area and picking up the network signal and rebroadcasting from there without a modem or computer attached.
I have a WRT120N that doesn't provide a great signal in one corner of my house. I wanted to setup a Range Extender to allow it to reach that area better. I have tried looking around on here but am not having any luck finding one that says it will be compatible or how to set it up.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm a bit confused about what a wireless range extender gives me. I have bought a Sitecom Wireless Range Extender 300N. This extends the wireless range of your router to parts of the house that have a weak signal or none atall.
It is setup correctly and is working fine, however, the SSID is different from the Router.
Essentially, I want to extend the range of my router to parts of the house that have a low signal. This range extender seems to be the correct product to do this. However, I want my clients to switch to the appropriate wireless access point (either the range extender or my router) depending on the strongest signal, how can this be configured?
When a client is the overlap area (the area where both the router and the range extender can be sensed) I want the client to switch to the strongest signal.
In my case My Router is in the loft and the range extender downstairs. You can still get a low signal from the router when you are downstairs but the range extender give a full signal. However, I dont understand what makes a laptop 'switch' from router to extender when its downstairs.
Because the extender has a different SSID a laptop that can still get a low signal from the router when downstairs doesn't automatically attach to the extender to get a strongest signal.
If I set the extender to have the same SSID as the router
I have a self-contained (not connected to the Internet) network where I have a WRT54G wireless router serving several laptops at Location A, but will need the ability to connect laptops at Location B, over 100' away. I also have a WRT54G2 laying around. Is it possible to use that to wirelessly get the laptops at Location B connected to Location A, or is that only possible using a cabled connection between both routers?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy main router is connected to the modem and is an E4500 (upstairs on one end of house). It has a wired connection to the E2500 (downstairs on the other end of the house). I want the same SSID transmitted from both routers.
How do I configure the E2500 to transmit the same SSID as the E4500 to I ahve a consistant signal over the whole house?
Familiar with the WNDR3400 but I purchased it when it first came out only to replace it with my E4200. The WNDR3400 has a "wireless repeater function" and I was wondering if it was in any way compaitable witht he E4200 or does it have to be directly connected to use it as an accesspoint/range extender ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using the e4200 in a big old house with lots of walls, including rooms separated with brick. Wiring access points would be difficult given the problem of pulling wires. I do have lots of kids and devices connected including DirecTv, iphones, ipads, laptops, and PS3. Is there a range extender? Do I care if an extender only supports 2.4Mhz if I use the same SSID anyway?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy objective is to use the USB port on the E1550 to share an external hard drive for my family's shared media files.I have moved into a rental home with little cat5 wiring. Internet service is Uverse.Given the wiring situation, I bought a netgear universal dual band range extender which connects wirelessly to the uverse router in another room. My home office equipment (computer, printer) are wired into the netgear. All of that works fine. The netgear is 192.168.1.66. The computer is 192.168.1.128. So, I wanted to add the E1550 into my network. I can see it as an attached device on the Netgear's admin page, but cisco connect and a direct ip http://192.168.1.68 does not resolve. I have the e1550 connected via a lan port on the netgear extender (there is no other option). I have gone from that lan port to the internet port on the e1550. I have done so with a staight Cat5 cable and with what I believe should be a cross-over. In both situations, I see the router via the netgear admin page but can not connect to it. I'd prefer not the hang my usb drive off of my computer because it if gets turned off or reboots due to a MS Windows auto update, it leaves the rest of the house with no shared media during that process.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 8mbs down/1 mbs up service through a cable modem (WOW). We've been using a WRT320N wireless router with great success. I haven't checked true transfer rates, but when I do a speed test (url...), I pretty consistently get the speeds we are paying for. There's a room I wanted to use as an office but the signal didn't reach there. I just set up a WRE54G range expander. It is talking to the router and my compter. I have internet access but the speeds are considerably slower (<1mbs down/<0.4 mbs up) than what I get on the other computer that's talking directly to the router. I've looked for specs on data rates on the WRE54G and can't find them, but I can't image they're that slow. Can this be because I'm using a G expander with an N router?

Range Extenders work off of the idea of pulling a signal from the Base Station and then repeating the signal frequently, this generally causes rebuffering issues with most wireless devices within a network.I believe I need a wireless extender that does not repeat the signal, more of a wireless access point.
