D-Link DIR-655 :: Xbox Media-Center Extender Loses Connection
Feb 7, 2013I have an old laptop in another room running WMC with windows 7. This is wired to my new DIR 655 router then via a switch to another room to my xbox 360. I have successfully connected the xbox as an extender but after a few minutes of idle time, the connection drops and my xbox automatically restarts. If I'm streaming something it seems to work fine.

Apr 29, 2012Successfully setup X Box connected via DPC3925 WIFI router to to Win 7 Media Center? I am sure I had uPNP enabled and I tried turning off Firewall for home network but no luck!
Adding the extender from Media Center always claims it can't find the X Box (Yes, I did enter the 8 digit key exactly as displayed on TV).

I've just set up my new WDR4300. I have a media center PC that is able to access the router and a media center extender that is also able to access the router as well without issue. However, the media center pc cannot see the extender. I found this post which describes a similar issue and talks about another tp-link router that "Blocks SSDP Search or Notify packets, so the PC can never find the Extender during setup."I believe this may be the issue but am unsure where to start looking or how to correct it. I have enabled UPnP on the router and am still having no success. I believe it has to be something with the router since everything works correctly if I hook my old router back up.

Jun 13, 2011I can't remember the last time I connected to the Windows media center on my Xbox 360 but I know recently I have tried to run a game server on the PC that the media center runs on. I was trying to do this by setting up a static IP. Here is the thread I posted to ask questions about it. I also used Hamachi to do the same thing. It basicly creates another netowork for you to connect to other people on, I guess. When I started using it another network appeared in my network and sharing center.I have tried reseting my modem and router. I've checked my network settings on my PC and my Xbox 360 and they both look like they use to look before I tried to use my PC as a server.

Oct 4, 2011My netgear router kept dropping my internet connection so after some research I bought the DIR-655 router. It installed fine. My computer connects to the internet great and so does my xbox. But now my xbox doesn't see my PC so I can not set up a media center connection. I know it isn't a firewall setting or a setting on my computer because it worked fine with my old netgear router and the router I had before that. I even double checked by turning off the firewall. I have version 2.0 firmware and the settings are out of the box. I assume there is something I need to set up to get this to work but I have not been able to find any answers on the internet. I don't know a lot about networking as I've always used out of the box settings and had success with everything working the way I like.

Oct 26, 2011I have a DIR-825 router series b, with firmware 2.05NA.My desktop is running vista 64Bit.I want to use my xbox 360 as a media center.I lose my connection between my xbox and my computer whenever the xbox is turned off. I can connect, and it works well, but only after I uninstall the extender from Media Center, then restart my computer. Then it sees the xbox on the network. I then have to set up a new connection. This is done over wireless N using the 5ghz band.The connection holds until my xbox is turned off. Then when I turn it back on it does not see the connection to the Media Center.
I updated the new firmware (my previous firmware was 2.02NA). I updated to 2.06, but then went back to see if that would make a difference and it didn't. The xbox can connect to xbox live and the internet (netflix etc...) but it does not see the home network to allow me to stream media between the computer and the xbox.I have disabled the firewall on my PC, I have disabled SPI, and do not have any other firewalls running on the network.

Aug 4, 2011I recently replaced my Linksys WRV54G with a Linksys e2000 where I stream H.264 vido in 480p from one computer connected over gigabit to my Media Center running on Windows 7 64 bit connected at 10/100.
Before the router change, I was able to playback video over the network with no problems. If I connect the Linksys WRV54G again, the issue goes away. The Linksys WRV54G does not have gigabit and I have read related issues of video stuttering over gigabit.

However as all media files are stored on one PC I was thinking about getting a external USB drive and connecting this to the router and use that as the media server, this would save a PC having to be on all the time.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 Media Server Not Seen By Windows Media Player?
Apr 18, 2012I've enabled the Media Server on my E3000 router. My PS3 can see the server and play media from it by my PCs can't!
I'm using Windows Media Player v 12.0 on Windows 7 and some older version on Windows XP and it's my understanding that the Media Server should appear under the "Other Libraries" section but it does not.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug in the E3000 firmware (I have the latest as of this date) or is the Media Server simply not compatible with Windows Media Player? compatible media player for Windows 7?
I did read a post about a firmware upgrade on the 4200 that broke the media player, but I don't know if such a problem exists for the E3000.
HP Pavilion Media Center TV M7640n - Can't Find Drivers For Internet Access
Jul 15, 2012I recently cleaned my hard drive, but forgot to save my drivers.
Now after installing Windows XP, I can't access the internet and I can't save anything because I keep getting insufficient memory errors (but my drive is almost empty), but I have been able to update drivers.
I have managed to recover some of the drivers but I can't figure out what I have to do to get my desktop to access the web. I have tried directly connecting to my router and using my wireless USB adapter (whose driver I can't install because of an insufficient error message).
My computer is a HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7640n Desktop that I bought several years ago:

In device manager, i only have 3 question marks left under Other Devices: Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus, Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter, and Multimedia Video Controller.

Set up the WDR4300 with a USB drive connected (Platinum MyDrive CP 500 GB USB 3.0).Enabled the Media server, shared the entire drive, stuck an test .avi on there.My laptop has no trouble playing it from the attached storage, my Xbox sees the folders and files, recognizes them as playable formats but then does nothing once I hit play to get the file going.If I copy the exact same file to the shared folders on my laptop, navigate from the Xbox to that location it streams within the second.Also tried the same thing with a 16 Gb USB thumbdrive, same result.
Switched NIC - Can't Connect To XBox As Extender
Aug 17, 2012I have a HTPC that I use to feed two XBOX extenders (all are hardwired, through a switch). I was using the onboard Realtek NIC, but having some stuttering issues for live and recorded TV feeds. I installed a new Intel NIC, but cannot get the Xboxs to connect back using that connection. Everything else is working (Internet, NAS drives, etc) with that card, only the Xbox extenders. I did delete the original connection and tried adding back as new, but have since had to revert back to the original NIC.

Went to set up my husbands computer (both computer are desk top HP Pavillion running windows 7) and the way I was doing it thru the network sharing center on his computer I was not able to get the computer to see the wi-fi. I tried both the router p/w and the p/w that was supplied by the smart wi-fi help center. So I wired it directly to the Linksys router with a new cat-5 ethernet cable. VOILA..internet connection! Question..is his computer secure even tho it doesn't have it's own p/w and is wired directly to the router? My thought is "yes" since the router is p/w protected.

I have recently upgraded my router for my home network from an old Linksys WRT54GS G router, to a new E2500 N router. I have heard/read that it is possible to reconfiqure my old router to act as a range extender for my network but I am unclear how to do so. I think this may be the same thing as an access point, but all the FAQ's I've found seem to have this work as a solo device, not as a device on existing network. I have my e2500 setup with the modem in my study and broadcasting from there, and would like to use my old G router set up as a range extender to be located in the front living room area and picking up the network signal and rebroadcasting from there without a modem or computer attached.

May 14, 2012My objective is to use the USB port on the E1550 to share an external hard drive for my family's shared media files.I have moved into a rental home with little cat5 wiring. Internet service is Uverse.Given the wiring situation, I bought a netgear universal dual band range extender which connects wirelessly to the uverse router in another room. My home office equipment (computer, printer) are wired into the netgear. All of that works fine. The netgear is 192.168.1.66. The computer is 192.168.1.128. So, I wanted to add the E1550 into my network. I can see it as an attached device on the Netgear's admin page, but cisco connect and a direct ip http://192.168.1.68 does not resolve. I have the e1550 connected via a lan port on the netgear extender (there is no other option). I have gone from that lan port to the internet port on the e1550. I have done so with a staight Cat5 cable and with what I believe should be a cross-over. In both situations, I see the router via the netgear admin page but can not connect to it. I'd prefer not the hang my usb drive off of my computer because it if gets turned off or reboots due to a MS Windows auto update, it leaves the rest of the house with no shared media during that process.

Aug 26, 2011I have 8mbs down/1 mbs up service through a cable modem (WOW). We've been using a WRT320N wireless router with great success. I haven't checked true transfer rates, but when I do a speed test (url...), I pretty consistently get the speeds we are paying for. There's a room I wanted to use as an office but the signal didn't reach there. I just set up a WRE54G range expander. It is talking to the router and my compter. I have internet access but the speeds are considerably slower (<1mbs down/<0.4 mbs up) than what I get on the other computer that's talking directly to the router. I've looked for specs on data rates on the WRE54G and can't find them, but I can't image they're that slow. Can this be because I'm using a G expander with an N router?

Feb 6, 2013I have recently discovered that I can stream audio from my WRT54G V2 via a wireless extender.I can not play internet radio, or stram Rhapsody via the extender.The extender will not stream audio.This is actually quite normal behavior of a Range Extender. Range Extenders work off of the idea of pulling a signal from the Base Station and then repeating the signal frequently, this generally causes rebuffering issues with most wireless devices within a network.I believe I need a wireless extender that does not repeat the signal, more of a wireless access point.
