buying a wireless router to use as a wifi extender as the signal is weak upstairs. At the moment my pc upstairs is connected by ethernet cable, I'm thinking of connecting a router upstairs to this ethernet cable to have good wifi upstairs. And my pc does have wifi so I will use that.

Internet service is Uverse.Given the wiring situation, I bought a netgear universal dual band range extender which connects wirelessly to the uverse router in another room. My home office equipment (computer, printer) are wired into the netgear. All of that works fine. The netgear is 192.168.1.66. The computer is 192.168.1.128. So, I wanted to add the E1550 into my network. I can see it as an attached device on the Netgear's admin page, but cisco connect and a direct ip http://192.168.1.68 does not resolve. I have the e1550 connected via a lan port on the netgear extender (there is no other option). I have gone from that lan port to the internet port on the e1550. I have done so with a staight Cat5 cable and with what I believe should be a cross-over. In both situations, I see the router via the netgear admin page but can not connect to it. I'd prefer not the hang my usb drive off of my computer because it if gets turned off or reboots due to a MS Windows auto update, it leaves the rest of the house with no shared media during that process.

When i go into the Netgear's Control panel and click attached devices it does not show it and it wont work. I called verizon and they gave me port numbers to put it in the port fowarding but you need the IP address which i dont know

I connected the extender to the PS3 and kindle with no problems. Great signal. Increased from 1 bar to 3 bars. However I can't connect either one of my PCs to it. View 2 Replies View RelatedAt the moment the Wireless Router is located in my bedroom which is 12 meters from the living room where the phone line is. I basically have one phone line extension from the telephone line to my bedroom where I've plugged in the ADSL filter. The modem part plugs into the actual router and the telephone line is then extended back to the living room with a second extension cable.This is because my PC is in my bedroom. Problem with this is the fact that there are extension cables get in the way when moving furniture around and also hang from the ceiling in the corridor.What I'd like to do is have a WiFi dongle for my PC and move the router to the living room. Now my second problem is that my phone gets a very weak WiFi signal once you go to the living room so I imagine if I moved the router to there then I would barely get a signal in my bedroom. I have two options to solve this:
(1) Use a WiFi extender in between my room and the router and then a dongle for my computer
(2) Upgrade my current G router to an N router. Problem is I'm not too sure the signal will reach my room. There's a 12 meter range from the living room to my bedroom btw.url...

Yesterday I bought this router to extend my wifi signar from my cable router. Now I know that it is possible using the WR841ND as an wifi extender using third-party firmwares but what I like to know is if there is any way to make the router work like that but using the original firmware. I followed a guide that explained how to do it but the only thing I can do is extend the wireless signal without the internet acess.
basically, my iMac detects the extender as routername_EXT which is fine, but says that the password i type is wrong. when i use my original router with my iphone with the same password it works, but when i try to use it with my extender it says that the password is wrong.

My 1200 v 1.0 was working fine until I tried to link a wireless internet camera. Apparently I screwed something up in the setup such that I've lost my WiFi connection to my laptop and one wireless desktop. Fortunately my wired connection still works. I've carefully tried to restore my system following the online procedure and while the setup looks OK it doesn't link. In the process I have reset the router to the factory setting several times and have installed the latest firmware version. I contacted Linksys support and using remote diagnosis they reached a point where they said that something was wrong with my computer and to investigate further there would be a fee charged. I balked at that since I had tried the setup from several different wired Window 7 and XP computers.

2. I run my Cisco Connect app and it asks me to change my router admin password.
If I don't change it - I can not use Cisco Connect app.
If I provide my WiFi password then it changes my router admin password.
Maybe it was done to have a "simple" solution - 1 password for everything. But maybe its a bug because router admin password should be different from WiFi password fro security reasons.
Buy new one Linksys E3200. Two day using and now have such problem. Every 30 minutes WiFi connection disappears for 10-15 sec. Then appear, but you can't connect to WiFi network for next 30 seconds. Update firmware of router to last version, but it doesn't work.

One issue I cannot seem to find a workaround for is the wifi bandwidth problem.I have a 100/10 mbitl internet connection. The router claims to support 300/450 mbit speeds over wifi, so that should be plenty. in reality however, that isnt so.Even though my N-standard wifi adapter on my machine states it has a 130 mbit connection to the router, I consistently test the internet throughput when using wifi and speedtest.net to around 20-21 mbit. If I put in a cable, I instantly get full speed, 100/10 mbit.
Have to add; I am not new to the networking game, I have a CCNA and a degree in computer sciences, and work with hosting web sites using cloud tech every day. At this point, I have tried everything related to settings on the router, so I can only conclude that there's some kind of bug in the firmware. I would expect the standard firmware to work, and not having to install DDWRT or other custom firmware.
