The Netgear GS108Tv2 has more function than the other two, but I don't know the Netgear is stable or not?

Jul 27, 2011We are using 3750 switches as WAN router facing the WAN cloud. To configure QoS for its WAN port, should I use 'auto qos voip trust" or treat it like a router port and configure class-maps, policy-maps, and attact service-policy input or output?
Because switches have different queuing and dropping methods than routers, auto qos can generate QoS configs that are considered most appropriate for 3750 switches. However the switch functions as WAN router. Maybe it should be configured using router type of QoS with policy-maps and service-policy?
Routers :: Older 24 Port Cabletron Switch Configuration
Feb 17, 2011I have an old Cabletron switch i have used for about 8-10 years, it has some vlans set up and i was wondering how i can "talk" to the switch and set it up. I am using this switch in my home on my vast network. is it possible to "reset to factory" or anything without a serial cable? I would like to use snmp of telnet to configure but i dont think it has an ip set up and it is such an old switch I cannot find any info from entrasys.

Jul 23, 2012I have found some samples on the FlexConnect setup for the controller side. However none of the documents mentioned how the switch port should be configured that goes to the controller and AP.
At this moment I have a Cisco 5508 configured in CAPWAP mode with 20 APs. I would like to use same controller for connecting one of the remote sites with 2 APs in FlexConnect mode. Current the 5508 to switch port is configured as 802.1Q port. All CAPWAP AP ports are configured as "switchport access vlan X" where X=capwap VLAN. Need to know how the switch port should be set for the remote site where flexconnect APs connect.

May 12, 2013I have a laptop with a single physical NIC which I have used the advanced management tools to create two virtual NICs (say vlan 10 and vlan 20) and both are on the same subnet (say 192.168.4.x). One NIC is for normal TCP/IP traffic and one is for broadcast/multicast traffic (I have some custom software that requires this to be the case and works fine on an older laptops with built-in physical NIC and PCMCIA XIRCOM NIC). The dual NIC laptop communicates with a dual NIC server via a Cisco 2811 router (which has a 16 port switch module at the back) and has vlans set up so.
What I want is for the single NIC laptop (with two virtual NICs) to be able to also communicate with the server. Basically, one NIC is for normal traffic and one is for multicast/broadcast traffic. All three machines need to be able to talk to each other using the NIC for normal traffic and both laptops must be able to receive broadcasts from the server. What is the best way to configure the router to handle the trunking/tagging? Most configuration documentation I read has two complete subnets for the two virtual NICs. Note that all three machines use static IPs and are part of a workgroup so no DNS and domain servers etc.

May 29, 2013Since Avaya phones do not run CDP, how does the phone know which DHCP pool to pull from to get its IP address if the PC is connected to the phone.
Let's say I have a interface config like this

And two DHCP scopes configured on the switch. What keeps the phone from pulling from the wrong scope?

Mar 5, 2013I am trying to configure a 3500XL switch (and I know its old). I get to the int fa 0/1 line and thats where it all stops working.
switch#(config-if)#switch port mode access
switch#copy run start
or
switch#(config-if)#switch port mode access
switch#sh run int fa 0/1
It will show the configuration for port fa 0/1 as if I hadn't entered the "switch port mode access" command. Or any other command for that matter. Why the switch is not holding configuration and seemingly loses it as soon as you exit out of each interface?

Feb 25, 2011We are using D-Link DSS-16+ Ethernet Hub Switch and the broadband modem (1Mbps) is directly connected to the hub and it's currently working.Now we have a D-Link Ethernet Router DIR-100 (got it free when we bought the PCs) and an extra broadband modem (from the our home) and I was planning to add it in our shop. I will still be using our current network connection, but I was planning to add the router and that extra modem for the server. I want to use the modems separately; the first one for the 14 computers and the extra one for the server. how to config them?

Mar 8, 2011The above problem has just occurred. I am networking a W7 computer to an Windows XP SP3 via a Cat 5 cable connection. Checks of all cables and NIC interfaces show that there ok. I can ping each NIC card and get a response. The NIC cards are configured for obtaining automatic addresses. My connection to the Internet via a Motorola Surfboard modem is ok. I have checked the drivers and they are ok.

Dec 24, 2011So, using a standard off the shelf UNMANAGED gigabit switch (just a cheapie), I have a scenario that I need to know about before I go and buy a whole lot of equipment.Ok so let's start off and say it's a perfect world and the workstations connect at a full 100 Mb/s and the server connects at 1000 Mb/s.So I'm looking at having say, four or five workstations connected to the gigabit switch (at 100Mb/s) and also a gigabit connection from the switch to the server. In this scenario, taking into account everything I've said above, would each of the workstations get a full 100 Mb/s to the server, or would everything be limited to 100 Mb/s total? I could see potential for the server to only talk to one of the workstations at a time and only at 100 Mb/s, but hopefully all four could communicate to the server simultaneously.

Aug 9, 2012I recently switched from cable to DSL and had to ditch the modem for a q1000 qwest router/modem piece. I have this setup in transparent bridge mode and the network runs through a linksys e3000 running Tomato Firmware RAF1.28.9007 MIPSR2_RAF K26 USB VPN-NOCAT.
With my previous setup I had ports opened for some games just fine, but since the switch I can't see any ports to the outside world. I set the ports forward in the q1000 and the e3000 (didn't think the q1000 needed them, but did anyways), but not sure what to try from there.

Feb 13, 2011Its just a basic question, I have a FS726T switch, and wanted to know how the clan thing should work.
Group A are ports 1-8
Group B are ports 9-16
Group C are ports 17-24
Internet is on port 26
I want each group seperate so 3 vlans... but does port 26 need to be in all 3 vlans for.them to receive internet? Is it possible to have 1 port in 3 vlans?
Would that keep them from seeing each other and still access the internet?

Dec 21, 2011We have multiple CSS 11500 clusters. We have found that on all of them, if you try to open a session on any port to an IP address on the backend of the CSS, the CSS will complete the SYN-ACK-ACK session with the client. This happens regardless of whether there is something on that IP address or not.
Coming from any IP, if I try to telnet to ANY IP on the 10.2.2.0 subnet (whether or not there is an actual server on that IP) on any port (whether or not that port is open or not), the CSS will complete the initial connection. I have verified this using telnet to numerous ports and viewing the transaction in a packet capture.
Is there any way to shut this off? This is causing some licensing issues for our security folks that use a vulnerability scanner licensed on number of IP addresses.

Jan 15, 2013We just installed a hosted VOIP system using Cisco 7900 series IP phones. We are having a strange issue with a few computers where they pull DHCP information from our VOIP provider's DHCP server on the Internet and not our LAN DHCP server.
The switchports areconfigured as: switchport mode access
My rationale behind this is that the phones would use CDP to get their VLAN info from the providers Cisco router and the PCs would just ride on the default VLAN. But this is not the case. Computers randomly keep getting DHCP info from the provider's router. Do I have to use voice vlan x and make the switchports trunks?
Asus RT N16 - Would Fast Ethernet Switch Slow Down Gigabit Networking
Nov 4, 2011I have setup an Asus RT n16 with 3 computers that support gigabit ethernet and a media server on one floor. On the other floor I have set up a fast ethernet switch (connected to my asus router) which is connected to several fast ethernet enabled computers.
Would the fast ethernet devices slow down the entire gigabit networking to 100mbps connections on my floor - similar to how a wireless n network running at 300mpbs must slow down to 54mbps when a wireless g device is connected to it?

Apr 22, 2011on my home network I currently only run an Airlink101 AR675W router. We have a couple issues with this. The router for one is in my basement and there are points in my house that have low signal strength, especially upstairs in the far corners of the home. Second is I am currently running my home PC as a media center but it is set-up wirlessly so streaming is clunky and jittery. Also on this network is 3 X-box's wired, a PS3 running wirless, 2 PC's wired in, 2 wirless laptops and the afore mentioned wirless PC. A lot of weight for the network. What I want to do is move the router upstairs, hardwire it into my wireless PC (the one doing the streaming) and connect a second router (an identical make and model I am buying this weekend) downstairs which will be basically used as an "expansion" of the wirless and a switch for the hardwired devices downstairs. would this be better than simply moving the wirless router upstairs (hardwiring my PC) and putting a 5 or 8 port switch in downstairs for the X-box's and 2 wired PC's there?

Jan 4, 2013My customer wants each ACE4710 (of a highly available cluster) to have its own, dedicated port for management purposes.
According to documentation, IP addressing can be applied to VLAN interfaces, so in order to satisfy the requirement, I should make one port belong to an "access VLAN X", and then apply IP addressing to the corresponding "interface VLAN X". This should satisfy my customer´s requirement in an indirect way.
But... ¿ Can´t I just configure IP address on one of the 4 ethernet ports in order to save the work of building the aforementioned VLAN? I am asking this since I do not have access to a real box in order to verify.
