Windows Couldn't Remove Your Computer From Homegroup

Nov 24, 2011

My main computer is a desktop PC, which is in my upstairs study. It is connnected wirelessly to the internet, and the Virgin router is downstairs in the living room. This has worked perfectly for 2 years. The computer uses Windows 7 ultimate. (COMPUTER 1), I recently purchased a laptop (COMPUTER 2) and installed Windows 7 ultimate. This uses the same wireless connection and at first I had no problem setting up a homegroup so that I could watch videos stored on Computer 1 on the laptop. The first problem is that the homegroup stopped working some time ago and when both computers are switched on, I get the message on both computers: "no other homegroup computers are currently available."

I figured I could leave the homegroup and start again but if I try to leave on either computer I get the error message: "Windows couldn't remove your computer from the homegroup." In services, both the Homegroup settings (listener and provider) are started, as are the peer networking options. I have tried disabling them and re-starting to no avail. Now, this hasn't been a major problem because I have still been able to access files on Computer 1 via Computer 2 by clicking on network>Computer1>user. But here is where it gets complicated. I have now purchased another desktop PC (COMPUTER 3) which I intend to place in the living room and connect to my TV, so that I'm not constantly connecting wires from my laptop (computer 2) if I want to watch something on the big screen. Again, Windows 7 ultimate installed.

Dell :: N4110 / Can't Setup A HomeGroup On This Computer

Oct 5, 2012

I have a Dell Inspiron, Win7 Home Premiun, 64 bit, N4110 Laptop and a Dell Optiplex GX520 with Win7 Professional, 32 bit desktop and I'd like to be able to share files.  The laptop can see the desktp on my network but can't access any of the files.  My desktop can't see the laptop at all.  BTW, I do have MS Security Essentials running on the laptop and the Windows Firewall is on - the desktop is set up the same way.

When I try to set up a HomeGroup I get an error message that says "Can't set up a HomeGroup on this computer".

WRT160N - Homegroup And Network Won't Work Through Access Point

Feb 7, 2011

I've worked on it and read on it for almost 2 days and I'm stuck. I'm using a Win 7 Pro desktop that is hardwired and a Win 7 Home Premium laptop wireless. Both current on all updates.

My Comcast modem is hooked into a WRT160N that is hardwired to the desktop PC and to a WRT400N which is being used as an access point. Both routers have the latest firmware. Both routers have the same SSID, security and password but use different channels. (2 & 6) Internet works perfect both wired and wireless through both routers.

The homegroup has been set up through the desktop but I've removed and added homegroups on both machines multiple times. My problem doesn't go away. The homegroup works when the laptop is either wired or wireless using the WRT160N. It will not work at all through the WRT400N. I can be in the room with the WRT160N hooked to the homegroup, when I move to the other router so the wireless switches to the WRT400N, it drops the homegroup. The internet stays connected just fine as I move back in forth so the IDs and security has to be correct. Once the laptop drops the homegroup, it can't find it until I go back and connect to the main router.

Both machines have IPv6 addresses, auto discovery is on.

I also have an XP machine hooked to the main router. The desktop can see it but it also is invisible to anything using the WRT400N router. I also made sure all PCs are using the same Network ID with no password.

It seems to me that neither Homegroup or Home Network are passing between the two routers since everything works fine using just one router.

Windows 7 - Can't Create A Homegroup?

Feb 2, 2012

Dell Studio PCWindows 7 Home Premium SP1Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller (Network Card)I have a mix of computers and operating systems (1 x Windows 7 and 2 x Windows XP). I can share files on the Windows XP computers from the WIndows 7 computer but I can only share files in the Public folder from my Windows XP computers. When I look at the network map it states that I do not have a network connection - but clearly I do as I can share some files. This may be due to my network profile being Public (current profile) and not Home or Work as I believe network maps cannot be shown if the network profile is Public. If you agree this may be the problem, how can I change to a Home profile. I cannnot find any setting for changing the profile from Public to Home. When I try to set Network Discovery to "On" in the Home and Work section of the Network and Sharing Center it does not 'stick' and reverts back to the "Turn off network discovery" setting (see attachment).

Can't Share Printer In Homegroup

Mar 13, 2013

I have a clean install of Window 7 64 bit Home on PC my printer is installed on. (It was previously running XP Pro) Printer drivers have been updated. I want to share Printer with Notebook running Windows 8 64 bit Home. When I added PC to Homegroup it accepted files but the printer was not listed even though I checked to add printer. Printer shows up under Network and can be seen on Notebook but can't be opened. Was getting a 0x8007035 error and now just get "window couldn't connect to the printer, check name, turned on, correct address" can't figure it out, even added ip addresses to let firewall except even though. I can see and open all files, and folders on both machines from both Homegroup and Network.

Windows 7x64 Homegroup Shared Folders

Apr 8, 2011

I have two laptops(Win7x64 Home Premium) and a desktop(Win7x64 Professional)set up to use Homegroup. I can access each computer from the other, however, the desktop folders that are set to Specific Person under shared can not be accessed by either laptop; public folder is ok. I am using Live ID on all three computers. I tried to add the folders to the libraies that I can access and I still can not access them. However, the odd thing, to me anyway, is if I use Explorer and type the Desktop address I can access the folders.

WRT54G - Windows 7 Homegroup Doesn't Work

Apr 16, 2012

I have a desktop and laptop running Win 7 and a WRT54G router. The desktop has a cable connecting to the router, and the laptop is wireless. Both connect to the network and internet fine, but I can't get the Windows 7 homegroup thing to work. Ran thru the troubleshooter a few times and got nothing out of it.

I just got the laptop so I could do programming homework and I'd like to be able to keep things synced with subversion wirelessly. Worst comes to worst I can use a USB key but it seems silly to do that when both computers talk to the same router.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Loses Homegroup?

Jan 28, 2011

It works then it stops seeing the homegroup machines. After struggling with this I have determined some things.

When it stops seeing any homegroup machines, xp, vista 64 and two dlink 323 nas boxes, I can get it working again by restoring the drive with a backup for a time when it did work.

I ran a lan software that showed me mac address, ip address, master brower and workgroup of every machine on the network. I ran the software when the Windows 7 home premium machine didn't see the workgroup. The software showed the windows home premium 64bit machine was not reporting the homegroup name. Looks to me like something is changing causing the win 7 home not to report the workgroup name. I tried changing the workgroup name, rebooting, changing it back then rebooting and it didnt' fix it.

When the machine is not seeing the workgroup I can ping the other machines but I can't map them using their IP addresses. When it lost the workgroup lately I noticed the first sign this time was I could see the machines and directories but could not access them being told I didn't have permissions/access basically. Can't remember the exact wording.

I am at a loss of what to do to fix this and I would perfer a fix verses reinstalling everything from scratch which may or may not perminately fix the problem.

Actiontec M1424WR Wireless Router - Setting Up Homegroup

Dec 18, 2012

I recently moved in with a friend, and we're having trouble setting up file sharing. His PC is connected directly (via ethernet cable) to an Actiontec M1424WR wireless router, which is broadcasting a WEP-secured wireless network. My PC is connected wirelessly (via an RNX-N180UBE usb adapter). Both machines are running Windows 7. Internet access is great. We tried to set up a homegroup, however, and are getting nothing but problems. He created a homegroup on his PC, gave me the password, and I joined on my PC. It said it joined and asked me what I wanted to share, but that's as far as we can get.

- On his PC, when he goes to the Homegroup page, it says "no other Homegroup computers are available."
- On my PC's Homegroup page, I see his computer name listed, and when I open it it shows libraries, but when I double click them it nothing happens
- He right-clicked his "downloads" folder and did "share with -> Homegroup;" I see it in my PC's Homegroup page but when I try to open it, the system thinks for a while before popping up a "cannot access" message
- I also shared a folder of mine to the Homegroup but, since he can't even see my PC, he can't see the folder
- I ran IPCONFIG on both machines; his machine's IP is 192.168.1.2; my machine's IP is 192.168.1.5
- When I ping his machine from my machine, I get "request timed out"
- When I ping my machine from his machine, I get replies.
- When I ping the router from my machine, I get replies.
- He has a printer. On my Homegroup page, it tells me that it has detected a new printer, but the "Install Now" button does nothing.

I've gone into Network and Sharing Center -> Advanced Sharing Settings and enabled "Allow Windows to manage homegroup connections." I did this on both machines. He runs a VPN on his machine. Thought that might be the problem, so we turned it off but nothing changed. I run both Hamachi and Tunngle on my machine. Disabled both of those but nothing changed.

Cisco :: Telnet / SSH2 / Win7 Homegroup And NetBIOS Blocked On 2106?

Feb 5, 2011

I have recently installed a Cisco 2106 with a single 1131 AP at home! I know, lucky eh, it was used in our office but I now have it only on a temporary basis and have it set up as a home lab. I am using a single SSID with WPA2 AES encryption with PSK using default values and no P2P blocking enabled.Initially the controller was running ver 5.2.78, the connection was very slow compared to the wired connection and I couldn't VPN over this link although I could over the wire?I thought I would upgrade to ver 7.0.98, which resulted in the VPN now working but still slow speeds.I tested all cables and connections and swapped out the cables with no difference along with checking the interfaces on both sides with no errors reported. I was also testing on both A & G radios with again no difference and erratic ping response times. I also noticed that Windows homegroup was now not working along with RDP using the netbios name (using the IP worked ok) and strangely I cannot telnet to the controller although it is enabled and enabled for wireless management (it says telnet not allowed on this port when trying to ssh!! a telnet connection just times out); I can connect via https with no problems . All these features work flawlessly going through the router, just not over the Cisco WLAN?I then downgraded and upgraded along with rebuilding the controller thinking it may be an issue with my AP or controller. This resulted in the connection speed to return to normal but still none of the other features mentioned are working as they should. I also removed all firewalls and acls from the end devices and the router with no effect.

How do I access shared folders over network XP pro v2002 sp3.I set up a network and have a workgroup called Workgroup. when I go to "entire network"->microsoft windows network->Workgroup and attempt to enter a certain computer I receive the message:"\comp_3 is not accessible. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access to permissions.Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed.
