ok so my moms computer (compaq fs7600) had vista an it went nuts so i wiped it an installed xp pro. Everything went fine but now it wont connect to the internet =/. I have a Belkin Wireless router and an Arris high speed modem from Brighthouse. When i checked the cmd prompt it said that the media is disconnected an network connections said that it was unplugged, but everything is plugged in

The computer can see networks, but when it tries to connect to them it says, "connecting to the network is taking longer than usual". We've tried hooking it up directly to the router with a LAN cable, but that doesn't work either. On his windows update it says there's an update ready for his wireless card driver, but you have to be able to connect to the internet to download it.

I have several wireless devices around the house that can connect fine, so I know that it is not the internet. I have tried a system restore, I have reset the router and rebooted the computer. The network diagnostics says there might be a problem with one or more network adapters on this computer....I have tried all of those solutions as well. When I look at the device manager I see a yellow exclamation point beside "isatap.domain.invalid". Does this mean that my network card is out??? Computer is now out of warranty

All attempts to access the network fail (ping, local shares, http) and other machines cannot access this one. Network & Sharing Center shows a fault between the Home Network and the internet, however I am unable to Ping or be Pinged by other computers on the Home Network. Other machines on the network are working fine both wired and wireless, although the machine in question is wired only (no wireless NIC).
The following items have been attempted, some many times, in no particular order, all producing no change in symptoms (not a complete list).
Network & Sharing diagnose & repair/reset NIC card.
Cold boot.
Last known good.
Safe mode with networking support.
Disable/stop all non-essential services & applications including firewall and antivirus.
Upgrade network drivers.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using a Dell Vostro, running Win Vista with all updates. I have Trend Micro Titanium and Comodo Firewall. I primarily use Firefox (completely updated) but also have IE 9. Until a few days ago I regularly connected to various public WIFIs, by: connecting to the WIFI network, opening Firefox which would then automatically take me the network's (Panera for example) user agreement page, clicking on "I accept" or "I agree" then gaining access to the internet. Two days ago I was at a local establishment where I have connected before. I connected to their network and opened Firefox as usual. Instead of connecting to their user agreement page as usual, Firefox tried to connect to my homepage (Washington Post) and failed.
The network icon in the sys tray showed I was connected to the local network but with local access only. This has now happened three times in three different public locations over the past 2 days. Each time I've successfully connect to the network but when opening Firefox or IE9 I am not directed to the user agreement page and therefore am not gaining access to the internet.Normally in the past once I had connected to the local network and opened my browser Comodo would open a warning window asking me if I wished to continue. This also is no longer happening as Comodo is not detecting me being connected to the internet, I'm sure.
I have a sony vaio VGN-FE41S running vista. I can connect to a wireless network, but I have limited connectivity. So I can't access any website. My laptop was first running vista, no internet. I installed windows 7. The internet worked, I was able to access any website. But the keyboard did not work in windows 7. I again installed windows vista, now my keyboard works fine. Is there any recommended software that would enable me to do that or is Remote Desktop Connection able to do it, and what information would I need in order to be able to identify her on the Internet? I would have thought that any IP address that she can see under 'Network & Sharing Centre' or through the Command Prompt would only display the generic IP address of her ISP, wouldn't it? And would both of us need the same type of software to allow me to connect?

My cable modem is connected straight to the computer by ethernet wire. It happened before and I unistalled the Vista update and it was fine. I can't see what the problem is this time cause my Event log won't come up saying that the Snapin for the MMC isn't properly loading. I am able to see alerts but there wasn't any on that date. My Norton's won't come up either stating that the side by side configuration isn't right.

Other computers in the office are a bit older and run either XP or Vista.Just purchased a new HP Officejet 7000 printer and connected it via a USB to one of the HP Pavilion Vista computers (which I will refer to as HP1). The printer works fine on HP1 using the direct USB connection.Set printer sharing, file sharing, and even public sharing on both HP computers (HP1 and the other one I will refer to as HP2). Workgroup name is the same. Can access HP1 and see the HP printer on HP1 from other computers in the office. However, when I try to connect to the printer from HP2 to HP1, it locks up HP1 and HP1 requires a hard reset. I tried installing the software/drivers on HP2, but HP2 still tries to install the drivers from HP1.I am not sure its a problem with HP1 as much as it is a Vista issue. The reason I say this is because I have been able to successfully use an XP computer (XP3) to connect and print to the Officejet on HP1.

The internet might be super slow at first, then drop entirely to where it says "you are not connected to the internet," then after not changing anything it will have a normal connection speed for a few minutes before repeating this cycle again. I have a macbook pro that I've had for two years connected to my wireless internet, and it has never had a problem. Even now it runs as usual on the wireless internet. I also have two ps3s that are working fine on the wireless, so I know it's not the router or signal.

I finally got it to connect to the internet, but it runs extremely slow, and any type of file you try to download is just as creepily slow, to the point where it basically doesnt work. the wireless adapter being used is a 300mbps, and I'm not sure what the router is, but on another computer in the same house the internet works completely fine.

She couldn't register Microsoft Office, use Avast, use Firefox, use Chrome, install updates, and access the iTunes store to name a few examples.
She was able to run MalwareBytes, but no infections were found.
I don't think it's the router, because my sister is also my roommate and I can access the internet just fine, as well as gaming consoles and iPods. But I don't know, maybe it is the router and I'm just not realizing it.
I'm trying to figure out the problem, but it's just not coming to me. I guess she's had this problem since October 2010. I thought it might be an IP address issue, so I reserved an IP address to her, but it appears that nothing changed.
My compaq presario F750us stopped connecting to the internet both wired and wireless. It no longer recognizes its Artheros Ar 5700 wireless adapter. The ethernet connection is restricted to local access only. The notebook runs Windows Vista Home Premium. I have followed all diagnostic and repair steps as per Vista's instructions. Two other computers remain connected. The router is Linksys Wrt 54 G2 V1.

Well, it does connect - but it calls it "unidentified" and despite my many attempts it just won't allow me access to the internet. The two other laptops in the house are connected to it fine though. I tried connecting to my neighbour's wireless router, and it worked no problem, including the internet! I bought an ethernet cable earlier, which successfully connected my laptop to the internet. (Although it said I was connected to a homenetwork as well as my Talk Talk router, which it proceeds to call "unidentified" and is restricted to local access). However, I really need it to work wirelessly. I have not been able to use the laptop yet as the ethernet cable does not allow me to leave the router!

Both use Microsoft Windows XP OS 32 bit and are networked using a Microsoft Wireless G-Base Station MN-700 on the Dell and a Wireless G-Adapter on the Compaq. This arrangement worked quite well for some time and recently they stopped communicating with each other. I reset the base station as described in the manual. When I did the same for the Adapter I could not enter the correct Wireless Security Key. I tried copying the key from the Base to the adapter but to no avail. Do I have to uninstall both units from their respective computers and reinstall from the CD provided?
