View 1 Replies View RelatedSmall office setup with a wireless modem/router. We have two computers that are identical HP Pavilion a6807c PCs running Vista Home Premium. Other computers in the office are a bit older and run either XP or Vista.Just purchased a new HP Officejet 7000 printer and connected it via a USB to one of the HP Pavilion Vista computers (which I will refer to as HP1). The printer works fine on HP1 using the direct USB connection.Set printer sharing, file sharing, and even public sharing on both HP computers (HP1 and the other one I will refer to as HP2). Workgroup name is the same. Can access HP1 and see the HP printer on HP1 from other computers in the office. However, when I try to connect to the printer from HP2 to HP1, it locks up HP1 and HP1 requires a hard reset. I tried installing the software/drivers on HP2, but HP2 still tries to install the drivers from HP1.I am not sure its a problem with HP1 as much as it is a Vista issue. The reason I say this is because I have been able to successfully use an XP computer (XP3) to connect and print to the Officejet on HP1.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThough, the internet works fine when I plug it into the modem with a yellow cable. The other computers in the house work fine, so at first I thought it was perhaps a virus- like spyware or something. I've used Malwarebytes and no luck. I also thought it was a bit coincidental that it occured simultaneously on both computers and not on my parents or brothers'.I've also tried several other of the tricks I read up on the net..- Unclicking proxy.- Going into device manager and uninstalling/disabling wireless, then installing again- Unclicking Ip6.- system restore.I'm out of ideas and about to do a repair install on the xp computer. One last thing.. I did notice that when going into Network Map - Wireless Network Correction - it says the adapter is not connected?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo, i just got a new computer from a friend of mine.It is a couple years old running Vista, but i keep having this problem.I can connect to either of my routers, and i will be fine for about 5-10 mins before it disconnects me from Skype or Yahoo or whatever webpage i am on.The connection icon in the corner doesn't say it is disconnected, but everything disconnects.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently decided to set up my xp pc again in my bedroom. Set up everything and it wont connect to the router or see my other pc. The router and PC don't seem to see it either. So far I've made sure the Workgroup's are named the same. I've tried allowing it to obtain it's own IP as well as setting a manual default setting. When I allow it to obtain it's own IP I get a limited connectivity error. If I set default settings that error goes away but I still can't get online still or see the rest of the network. It will only ping itself. Pinging yahoo.com, my other PC or other ip addresses time out. Also there are no device errors in device manager. Everything says it's operating correctly. I've tried resetting default settings on the router. I've unplugged and replugged in everything, powering on modem/router/pc. Nothing seems to work.
The problem computer is an AMD Athlon (64) 3500+ 2.2ghz with 1g ram running Windows XP Media Center Edition version 2002 service pack 3. The Router is a Linksys BEFSR41. The Ipconfig /all for it is below:

It's a Vista Toshiba satellite laptop(was upgraded from XP)About 6 months ago it started dropping the internet and switching to local access only. I've tried to disconnect it and re-connect it but it doesn't work. It stays with the local access only. The only way I get it back is to disconnect it then reboot it. After about a day or two it repeats this cycle.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI can't access anything on the network. The computer is a Dell running Windows Vista Home Premium. All attempts to access the network fail (ping, local shares, http) and other machines cannot access this one. Network & Sharing Center shows a fault between the Home Network and the internet, however I am unable to Ping or be Pinged by other computers on the Home Network. Other machines on the network are working fine both wired and wireless, although the machine in question is wired only (no wireless NIC).
The following items have been attempted, some many times, in no particular order, all producing no change in symptoms (not a complete list).
Network & Sharing diagnose & repair/reset NIC card.
Cold boot.
Last known good.
Safe mode with networking support.
Disable/stop all non-essential services & applications including firewall and antivirus.
Upgrade network drivers.

I am connecting it via ethernet/cat 5 and every time I continue to get a message that says unidentified network and it wont connect me to the net. From a previous post, I tryed going in and working with the tcp/ip stacks thru the command prompt and had no luck. So what I did was copy all the information from the command ipconfig.

My mom wanted to use it to check her email. she didnt download anything, but after she turned it off, and i turned it back on, the computer would not detect any type of internet activity. i put in a new ethernet card, and it still would not work. The sound on the computer has also stopped working. i checked windows audio service, and it says its running, and there is no detected problem with any of the hardware.

When I run windows error diagnose it says "There may be a problem with your DNS configuration"I have disabled the Ipv6 protocol which people were telling was the problem in many cases, but this did not work.I do get an internet connection if I use connect through a modem only, but I really need to get the router working as well.My operating system is Windows Vista Ultimate, service pack 2, 32-bit.

She can connect to the network (she says) but cannot use the internet. She has made sure she is typing in the security key correctly.I got her to try different encryption methods and she says these did not work.Tried resetting the network stack.Tried flushing DNS.Made sure Obtain IP and DNS automatically are checked.Tried setting up a wireless connection manually. There may be other things i've suggested but cant remember at the moment as well.Connecting via an ethernet cable works so its definitely a wireless problem. Her phone works using the wireless network ok, its just the laptop.

I tried setting both computers up on a homegroup network but they cannot look at each others music and documents my sister has Win 7 64bit and my brother has Win vista 32 bit ? The win7 is in English so it does not seem to hard to find things. I downloaded for my sister -Advanced IPscanner - and Netcut but netcut does not seem to work on 64 bit and the IPscanner recognizes my brothers computer but will not shut it off - they wanted to be able to know when the other is online and also be able to cut one another off when they choose to.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is strange. I have a client who owns the DIR-601 router. It connects to a COX cable modem.
The wireless side works fine. I can access the internet using wireless connection with no problem. I can connect my Linux laptop both wired and wireless no problem.
However, and this is the puzzle, I cannot connect his Vista computer to the internet. It worked for a while then just stopped. From the Network and Sharing screen we can see a good connection to the router, but a big red X from the router to the internet.
I can ping the router with no problems, but I can't ping anything on the net either using a name (www....) or an ip address.
We changed from dhcp to static ip but that didn't work either. Changed the DNS to the ip address of the COX DNS just in case that was the problem. Still the same.
I have had COX over to check everything out and everything is fine on their side.
I have Googled all over the place and not found anything that's useful. I did find one post about a 625 that said to change the WAN speed from auto to 10 or 100, but from what I see the 601 doesn't have this capability.
I have windows vista and my modem is connected to a router it was working fine than all of a sudden I get a connection than I lose connection right after.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe problem I was having was my laptop wouldn't connect to my new router provided by them, it would say it was connected but 'Local Only'. Turned out in the end all I needed to do was update my Atheros and Realtek drivers. Months down the line, now having the same symptoms, I decide to update my drivers only to find out there are no updates available and my drivers are up to date and working. The only other thing that may be the root to the this problem is the fact last night I connected to my girlfriends router at her house with this same laptop. Now I come back to my router this evening and I'm having these symptoms I had months ago. It's also saying the network is 'Undentified' eventhough it SAYS it's connected. It doesnt allow me to access the internet at all. I removed the history of my girlfriends connection on manage wireless networks, including my own.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Vista Workstation that out of the blue today stopped connecting to the internet after applying the windows updates. I have gone back and rolled them out but it still will not connect. It is hardwired (Ethernet) to a cisco e4200 router that gets its internet from a motorola surfboard cable modem. I tried it with a wireless connection and had the same issue.Other computers on the network work fine both connected with ethernet and wireless. It won't assign an IP even though dhcp is enabled on the router, so I assigned a static one and it sees the local network just fine, I'm copying files from it to my NAS server without a problem.

Was able to connect to my network fine a couple of days ago. Now It doesn't want to work.
Everytime I try it seems like I connected (the little blue globe symbol displays) but when I try and go to a webpage, the connection times out or moves slow. When I run diagnose and repair it tells me that this computer has "limited or no connectivity" even though I'm able to connect to other networks. Selecting the "automatically get new IP settings" and "reset network adapter" options don't work. After selecting these earlier it was telling me "unable to connect to primary DNS server", then it was telling me "windows has confirmed this computer is currently experiencing a network connectivity problem". Now it's telling me there is no problem in spite of the slow connection.
I don't think my wireless adapter is the issue, I'm able to connect to other networks fine. I don't think the router/modem is the issue, there's another computer in the house (that I don't own) as well as my xbox hooked up wireless to it with no problem.
I am having trouble connecting to the internet in Windows Vista Sp2. I have looked in device manager for any type of ethernet device, and I don't see one. I do not have a wireless adapter installed, but when I plug in an Ethernet cord I don't see any type of bubble saying I have new connections. I don't Even have the icon that should say local area connection in network connections

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a windows laptop running vista to do windows testing on for web development (I use macs normally).I was shocked to find that I can't simply push connect, enter a key and then be connected to our home wireless network... no of course not because it's windows and nothing is easy or practical.Anyhow, before I go on an anti windows rant, I actually need this working. So at home we have a wireless network secured by a 32bit WEP key.On our macs I simply push connect, enter this key and we're away. With my new vista machine I go to Network & Sharing Center -> Connect to a network and click our network.I'm then immediately met with a screen that says "Press the configuration button on your access point". I have no idea what this means.Down the bottom of the screen there is an option that says "I can't find the configuration button... I want to enter the network key or passphrase instead" Which I click. The next screen I click "Enter/Select additional log on information" but this brings up a user name/ password/ login domain screen... I just want to enter my 32 bit key and be connected. I'm using a D-Link DIR-615 wireless router. Also, when I run "ipconfig" in the command prompt I get."Media State....: Media disconnected"
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running windows vista on my HP laptop (not sure what kind of laptop it is it just says HP on it) it wil no longer connect to my wireless NETGEAR WNR2000v3 and when I do get it, its local only. I recently had virus infections removed from someone who used AVIRA and MBAM (malaware anti bytes)
edit I tried to disable the autoscaling feature in windows and it did not work /I am running windows vista home 32bit/I can connect to the router now I had the wrong security type selected WPA instead of WPA2, but it still reports local only, I checked my router logs and it shows that it connects but it does not give me information on if it is blocking the laptop from the internet or if my laptop is. I have tried turning off the windows firewall and resetting it as well now.
I have tried the things listed below
- uninstall and reinstall windows wireless adapter drivers through computer managment
- disablied IPv6 through wirless adapter properties (unchecking the box)
- reset my rounter entirely (after which I can no longer connect to the router at all, where as before I did this I was able to connect to my router but it was local only) held the reset button for 10 or more seconds plus unplugged my modem and router for 5 mins, I know its alot of time for that but I was eating but regardless, after which I turned on my modem let all the lights go through their setup then I turned on the router let all the lights do their thing, and then my laptop to make sure everything picked up new settings.
-something threw me off also under computer managment under the network adapters there were ipv6 to ipv4 "tunnels" or something, they had the yellow warning sign on it.
