Cabling / Cards :: Bridged Xbox Live Connection Frequently Disconnecting
Feb 27, 2012
Recently my xbox live connection, which is bridged through my desktop, has been disconnecting about every 10 minutes of online gameplay. Now i want to give as much information possible for the sake of everyone else. Previously when i was running the bridged connection, everything was fine. My old set up was as follows: The computer in my home office is a dell Inspiron 620. The high speed modem it's connected to is a motorola 2210- 02. Then I ran a Netgear Wireless G router (WGR614V10) which all the wireless electronics connect to. The computer in my room is a HP Compaq Presario PC (SR5807C) which connected to the wireless router using a Netgear WPN111V3 wireless USB adapter. From there I ran an ethernet cable from my Xbox 360 into the ethernet port in the back of my PC and bridged the connections. This setup was brutally effective for about 2 years. One day my wireless adapter, connected to the HP Compaq burnt out. This is when the problems began. I replaced it with a Netgear N300 Wireless USB adapter, and the HP Compaq Presario connects to the wireless router just fine and never loses connection. But when I bridged the connections between the computer and the Xbox 360, my xbox live began to go out.... ALL THE TIME.... All the of the above information remains the same except for the new wireless USB adapter (N300). I've tried everthing from restarting the computer, resetting all settings to default (both the 360 and the wireless settings on my computer), port forwarding and triggering by microsoft xbox live recommendations and anything in between. I would have figured with the newer USB adapter my live should be working better but every 10 minutes it disconnects me from xbox live. (When I get disconnected from live, the computer, from what I can tell, remains connected while the bridge encounters all the issues) At the same time apps like netflix and youtube work fine all day and I never get disconnected, only when I'm gaming (COD MW3, Halo Reach, etc.).

I got threatened by a few people for being good and my xbox live has been disconnecting a lot today and i've been unable to finish a game. then I looked into my router settings and saw this... 79 TCP- or UDP-based Port Scan So that means 79 times it did that, which is weird when you look at the rest of the router numbers.

My previous wireless card was D-Link brand, and worked great. I never ever had trouble with connecting, never had to think about it or mess with any software. It always ran silently in the background, and connected automatically without fail. The card got damaged when I moved my computer, so I bought this T-LINK brand because it had good reviews.First I installed it from the CD the recommended way--with drivers and software. It was able to connect after some fiddling around, but then it would periodically disconnect. The problem seems to happen every 10 minutes or so, or whenever I open a game or program (like Steam), or google chrome/internet explorer, anything that requires internet usage. Sometimes it would give me an error about the settings of the card not being the same as the network settings. I think I fixed that, and still it had the same problem (it should have automatically detected the settings though).
The only way to restart it was to unplug the card, wait 10 seconds, plug it back in, or to restart my computer. However, it would soon DC again. When it does so, its like the card just goes to sleep -- no more blinking green light. Also, I made sure that the drivers that came on the installation CD are current (which they are). Eventually, after playing with settings to no avail, I uninstalled drivers and software and then restarted my computer, then reinstalled just the drivers. At first it was unable to connect, but after moving the stand to a different USB slot, then refreshing my IP through cmd, it did connect. It then DCed once on its own. I was able to get it back up after pulling the card out of the USB stand and plugging it back in. Since then it has not DCed, but I am not holding my breath.
First I have to say, I absolutely hate the program that came with it. Windows does everything the program does, except 100% better. I am not surprised that its not DCing as much with just the drivers.Ah, I spoke too soon. While writing this post, I attempted to open a new tab in google and it temporarily DCed me five times in a row. Specifically, there is a little yellow triangle over a 5-bars good signal. Says it is connected (limited connectivity). This time, the little green light stays blinking. It eventually re-connected itself each time on its own (maybe when the IP refreshed itself?). Each time it happened I was trying to use google searchThe 6th time I was in the middle of watching a video on youtube (not sure it makes a difference). The DCing seems to happen a lot more when I am actually using the connection. Sometimes I cannot load a web page even when it
says I am "connected"[CODE]

My problem is with xbox live, i have the WNDR 3400 N600 Dual Band Router and i have been experiencing lag spikes since the day i have gotten it. I used to have a wireless adapter and i thought that was the problem so i recently went out and bought a 200 ft ethernet cable so now im hardlined to the router I have the xbox set to highest priority, i have it set with a static ip address for the dmz so i have no restrictions, i have all ports opened just in case, i have great internet speeds : 18.04 mbps download and 4.03 mbps upload and nothing seems to work.. i still have lag that sometimes disconnects me from xbox live and ruins the whole gaming experience.

So our last router (Linksys) quit on us the other day so we got this one. We plug it in and it works most of the time, but the connection drops out periodically. Also, for some reason, I am now unable to connect to Xbox Live using my laptop as a router (plugging the ethernet cable from my xbox to my laptop). Also, when I plag it in, the internet stops working on my laptop and I have to restart it to get it to work again.

Ive been trying to work this out on XBL forum for a while. all my settings seem to be correct ( UPnP, NAT type: open, no port forwarding or triggering, IP settings on Xbox's are auto).
The two Xbox can play online separately, when either one of them attempts to join the others party it disconnects from Xbox live.
According to the microsoft website, Xbox live only supports the Hardware version 1A and Firmware: 1.00NA.
My router has B1 and 2.00NA. is there a way to downgrade?

I have network: 20 PC's conected to a switch (ordinary switch), from switch to a router (for DHCP and internet conection), Router is connected to a cable modem.
Lately an issue arised. One PC started having problem witch connection (PC is windows 7, up to date). PC instead of 192 addres is getting 169 (i need to highlight it is a problem with only one PC). That means the PC is connected to the Router but it is not getting proper IP addres. After changig the addres to static the connection ws fine for few days and then in networc connection icon (botom right) it came up with 'unidentified network' message. I changed the patchleeds, even changed the connection with known working line (from outlet to patchpanel) and the connection was coming and going. Then I changed network card with the same resoult. I noticed strange thing: While the IP is 169 or when 'unid net' when I unplug the cable from outlet then plug back and do so couple times in one moment the connection is back and stable but only for some period of time. Cables had been re terminated with new jacks and at the patch panel. Drivers for network card are up to date.
Why is the connection coming and going?

Just had a new wifi usb adapter delivered today and tried to connect my desktop pc from my room to the bt home hub 2.0 in the kitchen. This is only 13meters max to walk and 10m if going through 2 or 3 walls. I installed the ralink drivers and plugged in the adapter which my computer then installed fine. It will pick up some networks including mine which i managed to connect to but only at a very low rate. Not after very long the connection will disappear and so will all the other houses networks. If i then pull it out and plug it in again they appear again for a short while?
I use my parents packard bell netbook in my room and it works fine. It could well be the case that this adapter was pretty cheap from amazon and you get what you pay for..
This and the two attachments contain your required info.

I'm using the D-link dir-300 wi-fi router. Cable internet connection. PC is connected to the router by the cable and the laptop via wi-fi. Both machines have the same problem - after some time, although there are no package loss when I'm pinging anything, some services report "connection timeout". Such as PvP.net, EA Online and Turbofilm.tv. Soft reset, hard reset didn't solve anything. Although when PC is connected straight to the main internet cable - there are no problems at all. [code]

I have a HP nc6120 laptop and I recently switched the hard drive. I installed Windows XP professsional and downloaded drivers from HP homepage (also did a BIOS update)
Local connection via cable is OK (broadcom netxtreme gigabit ethernet) but there isn't wireless connectivity. I downloaded all the wireless drivers, but still HP wireless assistant offers only Bluetooth connection and there isn't a wireless card on the device manager list.
Some time ago, as I formatted my previous drive and downloaded the same drivers from HP homepage, the wireless connection worked like a charm

I have 2 android phones and ASUS netbook with Windows 7 Starter that have internet access.I've tried the netsh commands as admin. I did download Xirrus WiFi Inspector but it tells me nothing new. Well I did something stupid (big surprise) and somehow managed to uninstall something related to the ethernet ports. I get code 28 and a yellow question mark with a little yellow circle with a black,Anyways what do I need to do to fix this, attached details from everest. It's probably something as simple as reinstalling the drivers, but buggered if I can figure out which ones I need.

My sister has just purchased a custom built desktop computer that will not connect to the household network. We have various other computers and devices that connect to the router (Thompson Gateway TG782T) without any problems. Just to be sure I've tried reseting the router to factory settings to no avail.
I've tried connecting her computer to the network through the TP-Link Wireless Adpater (TL-WN881ND) that came with her computer AND through a Netgear Wireless USB Adapter (WG111v2). In both situations the network is detected, the network password is requested (and accepted) but the result is always that she has 'limited connectivity', cannot access the internet and cannot detect any shared network drives.
I've tried connecting with an Ethernet cable as well, which her computer does not detect at all ('network cable unplugged').When I try to troubleshoot any of these problems I get a message that says 'The Diagnostics Policy Service is not running'.The guys at the shop where my sister had it built are asking her to bring the computer in with the router becuse they are convinced that the machine is fine, and that the router is at fault. Some Specs for her computer

When restarting my PC after a short power failure the D-Link connection wizard autostarts trying to connect to my wlan. After a short while I have a connection and is able to access the internet. The connection wizard, however does not register that a connection has been established and continues to attempt to connect for two minutes, then shuts down and immediately starts for another two-minute try....and so on. If I shut it down it just pops up again. This has never occured before. I run Windows 7 on an HP with an AMD processor.

I recently installed a new SSD and a fresh windows install. After reinstalling everything,I connected my LAN cable and had issues that it would constantly connect and disconnect.Even the lights on the back were flashing on and off.If it stayed on long enough it would establish a connection. I am using my motherboard build in lan adapter.I have a Asus P8P67 Pro, which has the Intel 82579, 1 x Gigabit LAN Controller. I was able to establish a connection perfectly fine through my wlan stick.I went to the Asus website and downloaded their drivers for the Lan Controller. This did not fix anything.I attempted numerous install and deinstall of the drivers. At that point I went directly to the Intel website and downloaded their most recent drivers. After installing the Intel drivers, I was able to keep a connection, but it was very very slow.Through Lan connection i am barely able to open up Google, but every time I attempt a speed test, the connection is too slow. Though when I connect through Wlan,I get the full connection speeds. The router I am using is a Netgear DG834G v4. Also tested various cable just incase that might be the issue. Also, when i use the same cable and connect it to my Laptop, I get the full connection and no issues.

I have my PC connected to the internet by way of a USB WiFi dongle, tapping into the neighbours internet access (with permission).Obviously, this leaves my RJ45 Ethernet connection on the PC, free and unused.I have a CCTV system also, which, if to get the most out of it, requires an internet connection via RJ45 Ethernet. Is it possible to allow my CCTV system access to the internet via Ethernet, connected to my PC, and then using the WiFi dongle access which the PC is already using, also?If so, how would one do this, after physically connecting the Ethernet cable between the PC and the CCTV system DVR?

I recently updated my NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 mbps ethernet driver and now my computer wont connect to the internet. In fact, it doesnt even acknowledge that the ethernet chord is plugged in. I am running windows 7 and have had no problems for years now. Since ive had my PC for so long I decided it was time to update, now im at a loss of what to do. I am currently using my laptop to submit this post, as my PC is not a wifi enabled device. I recall having this problem back when I first had this computer made and found a resolution online, (cant seem to find the same site i used back then.) I recall that it had something to do with me using the command prompt. While i have been looking for an answer, I have tried the following with no avail:
Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log press enter
Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log press enter
Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog press enter
Restart the computer after.

I have the same issue and have been surfing the web for the solution for quite some time. Brand new Sony VAIO laptop with blu-ray has an Intel WiFi bgn 1000 wireless network adapter. It worked fine for couple of days, until i brought it to work. We use wireless connection in our office. Maximum 7 computers are connected at a time. All other 6 laptops connect to our network with no problems (all of them are on win7x64). Now, back to the problem. Wireless works at home and at work in the evening , when no one in the office. I've removed all 3rd party software, uninstalled Intel software. Am using clean driver from the Intel website. Tried different revisions of the driver - issue is still there. I've contacted VAIO support. This is not known issue to them. They offered standard actions (unisntalling the driver, power management options, enabling VAIO Smart Network). No updates of fixes on their support website. I have also checked in the event viewer. There is only one service being enabled and disabled constantly (TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper) - which is happening at the same time with wireless drop. There are about 5-8 drops per minute. Computer browser service disabled. Firewall disabled, antivirus disabled. We assume this could be an interference with mobile diveces. While now, we have disabled all wireless cards on all computers, switched off mobile phones. And... AXAXAXAXA!!! BSOD 0x00000018 (0x000....00, 0xFFFFFA800754A750, 0x00...02, 0xFC01020EFC01020B).

I have recently had trouble with my wireless D-link WBR-1310 Router. Two days ago everything was working fine, my wireless connection from the router to my macbook was fine and the wired connection to my desktop pc was also fine. I went to bed and when I woke up the next day everything was still ok. About 3 hours after I had first turned on the PC that next day my wired connection started spiking and dropping connection frequently, maybe every 5-10 minutes or so. I play world of warcraft and I also use Mumble VoiP Program and my pings in both are over 800 constantly now making it impossible to stay connected to either program. Sometimes it will drop down to regular numbers (25-50ms, I play on eastern servers as I am in NY) but then rapidly jumps back up into the 1,000's. My wireless connection is still fine though nothing has happened to that, only my wired connection is messing up.
I've tried changing my speed and duplex settings on my onboard NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet which is what im using but it hasn't worked. When connecting directly through the modem the problem seems to stop so its definitely the router.

Have just acquired new used HP desktop running Windows Vista. System has a Broadcom NeXtreme Gigabit Ethernet card installed, which gets me to the internet OK when using a LAN cable from wireless router. But I can't make wireless connection. Vista tells me that I need a wireless network adapter.Am I missing something? Is it possible to change some settings to get the Broadcom card to go wireless? If not, what sort of adapter is needed, and is such adapter external or will it have to be installed in the system box?

Some of you may remember my name from the PS3 posts I had a while back. I completely abandoned the PS3/internet connectivity issues due to it going unsolved for about a year now, I just moved to a new house recently. I can understand that it will take a bit for the family to set things up like reliable internet connectivity and what-not. But perhaps there is something that I can do relatively quickly to fix this. Perhaps it is problematic software on my computer? Here's what is happening: The internet disconnects. A lot. Sometimes it's once per 7-minute YouTube video, and just recently it was a record-breaking sixteen times within 20 minutes. I read some things about it being a problem with Adobe Flash player, because most disconnects happen during YouTube videos, but I can't get an update for it... the internet does not co-operate.

I just bought a new television so thought I would finally be able to get to play xbox live in a television away from the router! But of course like always there is is problems....
I'll start off by saying I understand about bridging your pc's wireless connection to the router and the wired connection from the xbox to the pc. I did the same thing last year with my old laptop and it worked fine.
However the problem lies in that my computer isn't recognising the xbox as a network device atal! They are connected using an ethernet cable (and the orange light comes on at port when xbox is turned on) but the only thing showing up in networked connections folder on the pc is the actual internet!
I had read that sometimes an ordinary ethernet cable isn't enough and it must be a cross over cable used to connect the pc and the xbox, so went into the shop today and purchased an adaptor that changes the cable to a cross over... but still nothing is showing up.
My computer is fairly top of the range, windows 7 and uses a netgear usb network card.
