i have a dell inspiron mini 10 and i put windows xp pro sp2 on it and got all the neccesary drivers for it the problem with it is that it detects my router and everything but when it tries to connect it gets "stuck" on aquiring network adress i tried the winsock fix and everything but nothing seems to work

I reinstalled Windows from the factory CD and downloaded the latest drivers from Dell's website. Now suddenly, after the reformat, my network connection gets stuck on "Acquiring network address." Running ipconfig shows either 0.0.0.0 or a blank space for each field.Other laptops in the house work fine.I did discover that I can get it to say "Connected" if I go into the advanced settings and manually enter an IP address and use the subnet and gateway from my desktop's ipconfig results. The problem is that I can't actually get on the internet. It just says it's "connected."

I got stuck on acquiring network address. I've been using the same wifi connection for about 7 months now and this never happened before.
All the other laptops at home (Mac and XP) could connect except me. I tried to google over my phone but still wasn't able to fix it.

My Dell was running very slow, so I used the disks that came with the computer to reinstall Windows XP. After doing this, it wasn't detecting our wireless network. I went through on the drivers disk and installed the drivers in order according to Dell's specifications. It still wouldn't work, so I went to the dell website from another computer, and downloaded the drivers that pertained to the network. Now it is recognizing the network, I was able to enter my key, but it won't stop "acquiring network address". When I do the ipconfig /all, it looks like there is no IP address:

I woke up this morning and the internet showed that it was connected yet it wouldn't allow me to open the web or anything such as "msngr" I took the wireless card out for a couple minutes and then tried. That didnt do anything but say acquiring network address. I am not that knowledgeable when it comes to computers but these are the things that I have tried so far :
I went into properties and configure USB . . Made sure that the SSID said "Any" I Also tried going into properties and tcp/IP internet protocol and made sure it was on obtain IP address automatically . Hmm I tried. RUN>SERVICES> to make sure that the DHCP and TCP were started and on Automatic. I then tried system restore :- (went back about 2 weeks) . . Nothing. I then tried RUN>CMD>IPCONFIG/RELEASE *ENTER* IPCONFIG/RENEW *ENTER*.
when I did that it showed wireless network is now connected, yet back to ground zero. It wont let me browse. Its not really connected. When I look at the connection status, signal strenghth is good. Packets sent & received are good. I feel like there is just something little that. I am not getting, that is making this happen.
My sister has just purchased a custom built desktop computer that will not connect to the household network. We have various other computers and devices that connect to the router (Thompson Gateway TG782T) without any problems. Just to be sure I've tried reseting the router to factory settings to no avail.
I've tried connecting her computer to the network through the TP-Link Wireless Adpater (TL-WN881ND) that came with her computer AND through a Netgear Wireless USB Adapter (WG111v2). In both situations the network is detected, the network password is requested (and accepted) but the result is always that she has 'limited connectivity', cannot access the internet and cannot detect any shared network drives.
I've tried connecting with an Ethernet cable as well, which her computer does not detect at all ('network cable unplugged').When I try to troubleshoot any of these problems I get a message that says 'The Diagnostics Policy Service is not running'.The guys at the shop where my sister had it built are asking her to bring the computer in with the router becuse they are convinced that the machine is fine, and that the router is at fault. A few days ago the internet on my desktop was working fine. now it has the 'limited or no connectivity' sign on it and i have done a few things to try and fix this. I started by trying a simple repair. it comes up with 'the following action can not be completed: Renewing your IP address' This lead me to try and restart my PC and router with no luck.
I then decided to look a bit further into it and went ito CMD and flushed the DNS. i then did 'ipconfig /release' which generated the response 'IP address for adapter wireless connection 9 has allready been released'. I then did 'ipconfig /renew' to which it generated an interestin response:
'An error occurred while renewing interface wireless network connection 9 : The RPC server is unavailable'
I have made sure my DNS client is on automatic, alont with my RPC (this was uneditable). Its not a router problem as i have had multiple devices connected before and my laptop is working just fine connecting wirelessly.
We have 3 units of computer in our house uses a router and a 8port switch hub. The unit i am using can connect directly to the internet but cannot be mapped in lan. I tried pinging and i already assigned IP addresses in all units but still nothing happen. I already done format and cloned from the other unit.

I have 2 android phones and ASUS netbook with Windows 7 Starter that have internet access.I've tried the netsh commands as admin. I did download Xirrus WiFi Inspector but it tells me nothing new. I have my PC connected to the internet by way of a USB WiFi dongle, tapping into the neighbours internet access (with permission).Obviously, this leaves my RJ45 Ethernet connection on the PC, free and unused.I have a CCTV system also, which, if to get the most out of it, requires an internet connection via RJ45 Ethernet.Is it possible to allow my CCTV system access to the internet via Ethernet, connected to my PC, and then using the WiFi dongle access which the PC is already using, also?If so, how would one do this, after physically connecting the Ethernet cable between the PC and the CCTV system DVR?

My Sony Vaio laptop recognises the wireless connection but fails to connect at the acquiring network address. I have been into the properties section of the network connection page and am only allowed 8 characters for the network key. But the Network key on the bottom of the modem is longer than 8 digits.

Two days ago everything was working fine, my wireless connection from the router to my macbook was fine and the wired connection to my desktop pc was also fine. I went to bed and when I woke up the next day everything was still ok. About 3 hours after I had first turned on the PC that next day my wired connection started spiking and dropping connection frequently, maybe every 5-10 minutes or so. I play world of warcraft and I also use Mumble VoiP Program and my pings in both are over 800 constantly now making it impossible to stay connected to either program. Sometimes it will drop down to regular numbers (25-50ms, I play on eastern servers as I am in NY) but then rapidly jumps back up into the 1,000's. My wireless connection is still fine though nothing has happened to that, only my wired connection is messing up.
I've tried changing my speed and duplex settings on my onboard NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet which is what im using but it hasn't worked. When connecting directly through the modem the problem seems to stop so its definitely the router.

I have a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 Netbook, when I'm trying to connect to a wireless network I get the message 'Acquring Network Address'. I can connect fine using a wired connection, but using the Wirless 1397 WLAN Mini card it won't connect.
I tried to log a call with Dell as the machine is only 2 months old and someone remotely connected and said it was a software fault not hardware and they would charge me to resolve the issue. I found that hard to swallow so thought I would try here.
I have a HP nc6120 laptop and I recently switched the hard drive. I installed Windows XP professsional and downloaded drivers from HP homepage (also did a BIOS update)
Local connection via cable is OK (broadcom netxtreme gigabit ethernet) but there isn't wireless connectivity. I downloaded all the wireless drivers, but still HP wireless assistant offers only Bluetooth connection and there isn't a wireless card on the device manager list.
Some time ago, as I formatted my previous drive and downloaded the same drivers from HP homepage, the wireless connection worked like a charm
I have a client who has 4 computers in the house all running wireless. 2 desktops and 2 laptops. One of the laptops is running XP and after 5-10 minutes of surfing, the internet stops working while all the other computers retain a good internet connection. Repairing the connection via the taskbar icon fixes it temporarily until the issue reoccurs.

I've been trying for two weeks now to connect to the internet but can't. This suddenly happened on a Monday after I got home from work. Up until that point, I have had no problems. At first I thought it was my cable, but when I plug the cable into my brother's PC, it works. Then thinking it could be my network card, he picked up a wireless card for me, but still no go. I've searched these forums and many forums over the internet and tried many things but I still have no luck. I've scanned for viruses and malware but nothing has turned up.
I have Norton anti virus but installed Adaware per recommendation to double check. I also used Malware Bytes. On Xirrus, I clicked the ping test and everything showed as pass but still, low connectivity. I get that even when I plug in the cable. Wireless internet isn't working. The drivers aren't installed, and it never came with a cd so the only way I can install them is if i connect to the internet which i cant. I am thinking i need to download the drivers to a disk drive and then transfer them. Another possibility is, i somehow have a rogue virus on my computer ( probably julia who ruins everything )anyways it's called pc optimizer pro. System has a Broadcom NeXtreme Gigabit Ethernet card installed, which gets me to the internet OK when using a LAN cable from wireless router. But I can't make wireless connection. Vista tells me that I need a wireless network adapter.Am I missing something? Is it possible to change some settings to get the Broadcom card to go wireless? If not, what sort of adapter is needed, and is such adapter external or will it have to be installed in the system box?

(We use a laptop most of the time which is able to pick it up fine).I've installed the wireless adapter into the computer and installed the drivers however I receive an error message:
"The device may not be present or could have been ejected/unplugged from the system. Insert of Reinsert Now."
I have network: 20 PC's conected to a switch (ordinary switch), from switch to a router (for DHCP and internet conection), Router is connected to a cable modem.
Lately an issue arised. One PC started having problem witch connection (PC is windows 7, up to date). PC instead of 192 addres is getting 169 (i need to highlight it is a problem with only one PC). That means the PC is connected to the Router but it is not getting proper IP addres. After changig the addres to static the connection ws fine for few days and then in networc connection icon (botom right) it came up with 'unidentified network' message. I changed the patchleeds, even changed the connection with known working line (from outlet to patchpanel) and the connection was coming and going. Then I changed network card with the same resoult. I noticed strange thing: While the IP is 169 or when 'unid net' when I unplug the cable from outlet then plug back and do so couple times in one moment the connection is back and stable but only for some period of time. Cables had been re terminated with new jacks and at the patch panel. Drivers for network card are up to date.
Why is the connection coming and going?
I an on this form from my cell right now.. so, the computer i want to get Online with is a desktop and i have been days with this problem.

View 17 Replies View RelatedJust had a new wifi usb adapter delivered today and tried to connect my desktop pc from my room to the bt home hub 2.0 in the kitchen. This is only 13meters max to walk and 10m if going through 2 or 3 walls. I installed the ralink drivers and plugged in the adapter which my computer then installed fine. It will pick up some networks including mine which i managed to connect to but only at a very low rate. Not after very long the connection will disappear and so will all the other houses networks. If i then pull it out and plug it in again they appear again for a short while?
I use my parents packard bell netbook in my room and it works fine. It could well be the case that this adapter was pretty cheap from amazon and you get what you pay for..

I'm using the D-link dir-300 wi-fi router. Cable internet connection. PC is connected to the router by the cable and the laptop via wi-fi. Both machines have the same problem - after some time, although there are no package loss when I'm pinging anything, some services report "connection timeout". Such as PvP.net, EA Online and Turbofilm.tv. Soft reset, hard reset didn't solve anything. Although when PC is connected straight to the main internet cable - there are no problems at all. [code]
