Can't Detect Wireless Connections When There Are Plenty Around?
Feb 19, 2012
My computer can't seem to detect any connections, saying only 'Not connected - no connections are available'. But that's impossible, as my flatmates' laptops could detect the wireless modem we have in our flat, not to mention all the other random connections floating around. Luckily, if I connect my laptop to the modem with a wire, I can get internet, but when I unplug it, same problem persists

I have Dell Inspiron laptop with windows Vista Home edition with SP 2, Norton Antivirus 10.2. I was been using BSNL DNA A211-I wireless modem Since 1 yr. there used to be some router issues every 3 months and i used to re configure the router setting and re establish the wifi connectivity. but recently few days back I have uninstalled Norton antivirus and installed Kaspersky Internet security 2011( Trial version) even then things were fine for few days, i was able to connect. But suddenly 2 days back i connected my laptop along with the modem for one whole day without any activity . and on the next day when i try to reboot my system and connect to my internet i was not able to find the the wireless icon ITI in the available wireless connections list. The wireless connection was not detected by my laptop. my Wifi on my laptop is also on.I tried the below possible ways but could not get the connectivity1. re setting the router configurations2. switching the firewall off and tried to connectAll the 4 LED are glowing on the router, even when trying to connect PPPoE through LAN (with wire) it is connecting occasionally ie.. once for every 15 attempts. most of the time it is giving 815 errorI tried to the below commands from cmd prompt as wellnetsh int ip reset reset.lognetsh winsock reset catalogipconfig/flushdnsipconfig/registerdnsbut nothing happened.

My ipod and my brothers ipod both detect and connect to our wireless network. Our PC connects to the network through a wired connection and is having no problems. I got a new laptop, have Windows 7 professional installed, and my computer will not detect any networks. I even tried unplugging the cable from the back of my PC and plugging it into my laptop, and it still does not detect a connection[CODE]

I connected the router to the modem with an ethernet cable and the laptop to the router with another ethernet cable. A CD came with a router (Router: Asus RT-N10), so I put that into the laptop and followed the setup. The setup offered me to install something called Wireless Router Utilities, so I followed the setup and got to the point where it asked me to connect all cables etc. I did it already, but it kept telling me that the cables aren't connected. "Unable to detect the wired connections" I decided to skip that step and opened the browser, typed in the IP and got to the other setup thing. I typed in my ISP user/pass and I guess it sorta worked. I want to configure the router etc., to pass it and all. I go to the control panel, setup new connection, type the router PIN, I name the network, I put a passkey, and I click next.It says "Setting up [network name]" and after a minute it says "The network set up was unsuccessful". And that's it. No error notes, no nothing, just a button which allows me to retry. The OS is Windows 7 Home Basic. It's a new computer so almost nothing is installed. No anti-virus etc. Router: Asus RT-N10. Modem: Billion BiPAC 5200RC ADSL2.

I was using my laptop on a different wireless connection than I usually use and it was working fine, and then the internet stopped working and it told me there were no internet connections available. The two people on laptops that were beside me had no trouble using the internet, though. So I brought it back home to connect to my home network and it is still giving me the same error. I used the other laptop at home to connect to the internet, which it did with no problem, to write this.
I also feel I should note that I have an HP Pavilion dv6308nr, which has a physical wireless switch on the front. When you turn it off, the light next to it turns red, and when you turn it on, the light turns blue. No matter how much off and on switching I do, it will not turn blue. It will not "click" anymore like it's supposed to, which makes me think it's something wrong hardware-wise. But I don't know if this is related, because it may have to actually be connected to the internet for the light to go from red to blue.

I just a bought a new Lenovo Ideacentre K330, and it will not detect any wireless networks. All of my other computers can detect and use the network, but the new computer will not. It's running Windows 7, and as far as I have found, there is no Wireless switch on the actual tower.

have now been trying to get a wireless adapter to work on my computer for a couple of days now. I ordered a refurbished Cisco AE2500 and tried for hours to get it to work to no avail. I can't quite rember everything I tried to get it to work, but I will try. When I try to install from the installation CD it will not detect the adapter. I tried to download the drivers from the internet, but windows did not recognize them. I tried to update the drivers through device manage and windows update and that did not work. I updated all motherboard drivers and BIOS. I tried unplugging the power from the wall. I tried resetting the BIOS. After all of that, I decided that the adapter must not work.Today I went to Staples and bought a NETGEAR G54/N150 USB Micro Adapter. I ran the setup CD, put the adapter in and it detected. It would not connect to the router for some reason, and I thought it may have been because I set it to use the push to connect feature and the router did not have that feature, so, I uninstalled the software and tried to reinstall using just the stand alone windows driver and now my computer won't even detect it. I went through most of the things I went through with the first router again and nothing has worked

My laptop has stopped detecting my wireless home network. Before this happened, my laptop was going a-hole on me. It would stopped connecting and then I would have to connect it again via password..but now it has done it! This dam laptop. Anyways, there are two computers in my house and they can connect to the internet through the Ethernet cable. My laptop can also connect the internet through the ether net cable too..but that really beats the purpose of having a laptop if it's not mobile.

Im using window 7 64x with Netgear WND R3300 router to connect to internet. I bought 1 PCIe wireless adapter card [URL]and 1 USB wireless adapter ( Mini wireless N speed USB adapter) [URL]
They both said to be compatible with window 7 64x. They do, however, i CAN NOT see any of the N-wireless. The NETGEAR WND R3300 create 2 wireless connection ( one is G and the other is N). My computer is always able to detect the G-wireless but it can never detect the N wireless ( THERE IS NO N-wireless connection in the Available network board). I tried to update driver and everything but it seems hopeless. This is a new built desktop by the way.
I was able to detect the N wireless with my macbookpro; however, when i switched to window 7 on that macbook, i couldnt see the N wireless as well. So, i thought it has something to do with window 7 since all drivers are up to date. My G-wireless is really really slow ( about 2 mbps) while the N is around 16 mbps. My work requires high speed internet.

I installed the network adapter with no problem (using the CD included in the box) and it appears in my device manager and is working correctly. However, when I look look at the available networks I can only find BT Openzone (it's a pay as you go service, I'm using it now to try and fix this ), and some random BTHomeHub. I should be able to see a lot more, including my Virgin Media network, but I can't. It was the best 'Dongle'[?] in the store, so I'm guessing it's not an issue of proximity. I'm also certain that the network should be publicly visable.
OS: Windows XP PRO SP3
ISP: Virgin Media
USB Wireless adapter: Belkin Play dual-band N600 F7D4101
I have used Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector and it does not detect any networks other than the two I've mentioned.

I was using my computer this evening and suddenly it lost the connection to my wireless network and is now saying there aren't any wireless networks in range at all. I know this is wrong because my laptop (which I'm writing this on now), my PS3 and my phone are all able to detect not only my own network but other networks in the area.I've tried a couple of restarts on my PC and it briefly connects to the network and the internet (it connects to Steam and if I'm quick I can look at a couple of webpages). After a couple of minutes though, it loses the connection and decides there aren't any networks in range again.

A couple of weeks ago, my laptop (vista) suddenly started not detecting any wireless networks anymore. Wired internet still works. Wireless suddenly went 'poof'.Since then, I tried basically everything. I rebooted the wireless adapter, rebooted laptop, the network is most definately in range of the laptop, updated the driver and all didn't work. Yes, the adapter is turned on, obviously. When I look into device manager, there are yellow exclamation marks next to the microsoft 6to4 adapter and the ISATAP adapter, so I also tried updating those. Didn't do anything. They still show a code 10. So i disabled both of them, also didn't work. I deleted and reinstalled both too. I even tried disabling 6to4 in the bios but didn't work.Device manager says my Intel (R) wifi Link 5100 AGN adapter works perfectly. Also updated it, un- and reinstalled it => no effect.
Though, even without those exclamation marks, i'm pretty sure my network doesn't send out much ip6 stuff, so it should still work... But it's not just my network at home, it simply won't detect any wireless networks anymore. Also tried windows recovery to put it back in the state before it wouldn't work anymore, but no effect.

I've had my computer for maybe a year now, and I have not had problems with my wireless before. Two nights ago I found that I lost internet, and when I tried to reconnect there were no connections available.
My wireless IS on, and my mother's IPad uses the same router as my laptop does for internet and she gets internet with no problem, so it's not the router. I've tried rebooting the computer, disabling and reinabling the wireless, shutting down the computer for the night and trying in the morning, and none of these things worked.

try to connect to my wireless network it does not show up, other networks do however. At the moment I am connecting on the laptop through an ethernet cable. Also, my sister's and my old laptop both connect fine to the wireless and so do our iPhones. I have tried to connect manually to the network but this doesn't work either. I have tried researching it and I found that I might need to update my driver but I found that my driver is up to date.
