Sharing :: Windows Xp Home Cannot Connect To Windows 7?

Dec 31, 2011

I have a win xp laptop which connects via wireless to a cheap belkin router I have a Win 7 pro laptop which is hardwired to the router. The Win 7 machine is NOT set up for home groups. We are all on the same workgroup.

I have added the user name from the XP machine to the Win 7 pro machine with admin rights. I shared a folder on Win 7 and added the user name and gave read/write rights. I have no software firewall.

When I try to connect via win explorer via the workgroup I see the Win 7 machine (after 10 seconds). I see 'User' folder which I can browse and I see the folder that I shared but I can't access it. Access denied...

Cannot Connect Through VPN On Windows 7?

Feb 21, 2011

I'm trying to set up a VPN connection between two Windows 7 machines (A laptop running 32-bit and a my home computer running 64-bit). By setting up a new incomming connection on my home computer and forwarding port 1723 (TCP) to the IP (static on home network), I'm able to connect using my iPhone (either over 3G or a WiFi hotspot). It should then seem that my server settings are working. Now, when trying to connect using my laptop it won't work. I use "set up new network connection" -> "Connect to workplace/VPN" in "Network and Sharing Center". When trying PPTP, a window pops up asking me to re-type username and password. I use the same credentials as logging in at my home computer (and the same as I've configured on my iPhone), but the server won't accept them. When right-clicking the VPN connection in "Network and Sharing Center", I can go to properties. But I do not know which combination of settings to choose. I don't believe it should be this hard though, when both client and server are configured automatically by the same OS.

Windows XP Cannot Connect To Secure WAP

Feb 14, 2012

My laptop suddenly stopped being able to conect to my home wifi router. It stays at "waiting for network to be ready" while at the back the wifi list stays at "acquiring network adress" for a couple of minutes and then resets to regular disconnected status. All my other wireless gadgets at home can connect with no problem whatsoever.Wifi strength is great and, when disabling security, the laptop connects without a hitch and very quickly. I tried all possible security combinations the router can give me, always using a second wifi device to check if connection and browsing was possible.i tried everything I googled: drivers, firmwares, ipconfig reset renew, started and stopped services, to no avail.

Windows XP Cannot Connect To Internet

Apr 30, 2012

I have a spare PC, monitor, mouse, keyboard etc I said he can use that instead as I don't really need it now I have my Windows 7 machine. So I formatted XP on my spare machine to start afresh, purchased a cable to run from the router to the spare pc (which is connected to the modem) and the other cable runs from the router to my PC, hence I can type this. Since I can get online it isn't an ISP/router/modem issue, so that's clear. When I installed XP on my now spare PC I did have to fiddle to get the internet working? The PC motherboard is an HP Compaq d230 MT, and the steps I have taken is:From this website [URL]

1. Installed Chipset driver
2. Installed Broadcam Network driver
3. Installed Gigabit Network driver
4. Installed 56k win driver (wasn't sure if it's needed though)
5. re-started PC

It still doesn't work, and under device manager, the Ethernet Controller has a yellow question mark. Opening it up, it says there is no driver installed and says (code 28)

WN111v2 On Windows XP Won't Connect

Nov 15, 2012

I just re-installed Windows XP Pro on my desktop. It used to have Windows 7. I used to access internet wirelessly on Win7 with this Netgear WN111v2 adapter. So the adapter is in working condition.

So I put the drivers (tried both version 3.0 and 3.1) on a USB key and installed them on that desktop. The installation went fine, the program runs fine. It can even identify wireless networks around my house.

I chose my wireless network, entered WEP passphrase and it connected. Then in the bottom right side of my screen there is a little commputer and a yellow dot is moving next to it and if I hover over it is says "Acquiring network address".

Here is what I see when I type ipconfig /all :

Can't Connect To The Internet In Windows 7?

Oct 20, 2011

I cannot get my computer to connect to the internet including, but not limited to system restoring to an earlier restore point prior to developing the problem. Doing a system recovery which basically reset everything to manufacturers (except the internet connection). Following several sets of directions which seemed like they might apply to me including manually entering the ip info into my LAN.The latest attempt was to try to "reset my winsock catalogue" with: netsh int ip reset catalog command in cmd. This resulted in a list of errors stating that the commands had to be Run as an administrator. As I am logged in as administrator on the computer, I'm not sure how to rectify this latest little bit of folly.

Cannot Connect Wireless Windows XP Pro (SP3)

Aug 8, 2012

My laptop freezes about one minute after getting to the Desktop screen. Everything I need to do MUST be done via Safe Mode. I would like to get rid of this tick as efficiently as possible, so I'm counting on the "issue snipers" from TSF?

General Dynamics GoBook V-2
Windows XP Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 3
Processor Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 / 2.2 GHz ( Dual-Core )
Memory 1.0 GB / 4.0 GB (max)
Hard Drive 80.0 GB - Serial ATA-150 - 5400.0 rpm
Display Type 13.3 in TFT active matrix
Graphics Processor Intel GMA X3100 Dynamic Video Memory Technology 4.0

It started two days ago out of nowhere. It simply froze in the middle of composing an email. I was performing my routine business tasks that I always have done: emails, Google searches, composing letters, etc. I do not use the laptop for gaming. I thought a simple restart would clear the issue (as this laptop is very powerful and fast, with no issues at all), but yet again it froze about one minute into getting on the Desktop screen. In normal mode, the Desktop starts up and start-up audio sound is present, then while the laptop is "thinking" and processing the services, it freezes. No movement of pointer, keys or even Ctrl/Alt/Del is attainable. I must perform a "hard off" and always restart into Safe Mode to accomplish anything.

I can ONLY access internet and my files in Safe Mode. Normal Mode ALWAYS freezes. Safe Mode runs like lighting, but the only issue is that - of course - there is no audio, which is absolute important to me in my line of work. I have hardly any programs installed on the laptop that would be excessive or detrimental. Print Shop 22 (690.00MB ), CyberLink PowerDirector (766.00MB) and Microsoft Streets & Trips (1,072.00MB) are the "largest" software programs by far. No music files, no video files and few image/document files (721KB). The bulk of the memory are the standard hardware/software files that come with the laptop. Over 60% of the memory is free space. I like to keep my laptop bare bones as much as possible for maximum performance, that of which I had up until 2 days ago. I always clear my address history everyday in both Mozilla and via Control Panel, and I always empty my Recycle Bin daily as well. I was notified that an attack WAS happening, and I immediately activated my anti-virus. The virus was removed, but it looks like it left this one, annoying issue behind for me to deal with. After reading through so many posts on so many different tech support sites, it seems like the symptom could be that some services may be contradicting each other and causing the freeze. Again, this is just my assumption based on what I've been researching, as well as the other tasks (from this site) I have attempted to correct this issue:

* Ran Malwarebytes full scan, found viruses and killed them.

* Created another User Profile to access (in case it was a profile issue). Freezes the same way as it does on the original, normal profile.

* Cannot access any Windows or Microsoft updates via their sites.

* Performed a Disk Defrag and a Disk Cleanup. Utilized my Registry Repair Wizard tool.

* Cannot access System Restore in Safe Mode, and quick search in normal showed all previous restore points deleted.

* Performed a CMOS by removing the battery for about 20 minutes while unplugged, and also discharged excess charge with the power button.

* Free of lint, dust and hair

* Fan is spinning and cooling as needed.

There is NO disc drive whatsoever on this laptop, nor do I really want to reformat/clean install (if necessary).

What really stumps me is that the three iPads (school provided) in my house and my sisters laptop all connect to the wifi but my laptop It may have something to do with the fact that I started a homegroup so I could print stuff from my laptop and that the password for the router was changed to something easy a couple of days ago by my sister to make it easier to connect from her iPad?

Windows Could Not Connect To Network

May 10, 2012

I'm staying with friends who have a router connected to their modem, which is connected to a computer.Three other computers connect remotely via wireless, including mine, which is the farthest from the connection. I have a so-so USB wireless that gets the job done, but isn't anything special. This morning I came home to find my connection was very laggy and spotty. I rebooted the modem and router, which reduced me to no internet connection at all. I removed the adapter, plugged it back in, then rebooted. Nothing. Since then, I've reinstalled the adapter's software twice, gone into safe mode and back out, have verified the USB port is working, and removed the device from device manager. And I've seen everything on my status from the yellow yield sign to the unplugged icon symbolizing no adapter period, even when the adapter is plugged in.All other computers have access but mine. Just before writing this, I remove the connection settings and reentered them. The connection asks me for the key, I put it in, and receive "Windows could not connect to <the network>. I receive that even if I intentionally put the key in wrong. No "key is incorrect" or "please reeneter" just "windows could not connect." My wireless adapter's settings verify that there is signal. There was a thunder storm today, and I'm mentioning it, but feel insofar as my computer is concerned, it may be a red herring.

I am at a complete loss. There's signal. The usb adapter's software has been reinstalled, and it's attempting to connect. I think the fact that it's not giving me any response about the key being incorrect may be the key to this solution, but I am at a loss.My friends insist that no changes have been made to the router or modem other than my resetting them.In the time between writing this and posting it, I unplugged my wireless adapter from the computer with the ailing connection, and went to another computer to continue researching. When I came back and plugged the adapter back in, it connected immediately for about 15 seconds and gave me just enough time to visit my home page (which updates regularly, so I know it wasn't a cache), then fizzled. Then the internet went to zero bars. I disconnected, reconnected, and got limited connectivity with the yield sign. I used the repair tool and got that orange "flame(?)" in front of the connectivity bars and hovering over it yielded "connections are available. Not connected." When I tried to connect again, I received the previous "Windows could not connect to <network>." Rebooted again and saw the yellow yield sign. Then red flame. Then windows cannot connect.

How To Connect To 2 Networks On Windows 7

Windows 7 Can't Connect To WAP54G

Feb 20, 2011

I am unable to connect wirelessly to a WAP54G v2 with a Dell Inspiron 17R/N7010 running Windows 7. In fact, previously a relative's laptop, also running Windows 7, was also unable to connect at my location. The problem seems identical. The access point has no security enabled. It shows up in the list of available wireless networks. I've configured the wireless adapter properly (static ip). Yet connection fails. Windows suggests that I power cycle the access point and try again (this doesn't work). If I use the same configuration for the wired connection, it works. Could there a compatibility issue with Windows 7 and the WAP54G v2? Is there a way to get more information out of Windows 7 regarding the connection failure? Laptops running Vista and XP connect to this access point without a problem.
