Jul 2, 2011I'm trying to connect my two computer (XP and Win 7) using a crossover cable. I set the the IP as 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2.The computers can see each each other and I can access the public folder of the win7-machine on my XP-machine. However, if I try accessing the xp-machine it says:
Quote: You don't have permission to access \PC. Contact your network administrator to request access.
Both computers can ping each other without problems.I've tried rebooting the computers, plugging the cable out and back in again, turn Internet (wifi) off but it doesn't work. Also, the File and Printer Sharing is enabled, too. Disabling the firewalls won't work and I deactivated the user/pass login so there is no password needed.

I've tried adding a DWORD entry 'IPAutoconfigurationEnabled' = 0, also tried deleting the 2 values.Tried setting the IP manually to 192.168.2.6 - limited connectivity goes away but I get no internet connection from the router nor file sharing.

May 12, 2011I have a computer that runs windows 7, and I run an ethernet cable from netgear router into my computer. It used to run fine, but all of a sudden it stopped recognizing the ethernet cable, and I can not access internet.
I know it is not the cable because I can plug in the same ethernet cable to my laptop (runs XP) and it recognizes and I can access internet.
Also, I know it's not the slot on the router because because I switched places with my other ethernet cable that plugs into Netgear Powerline Ethernet Adapter for my Xbox, and the slot recognizes the adapter just fine.
So I am thinking it has to do something with Win 7 or the computer. My computer does have the wireless capability, and I am running it on wireless right now.

Getting Cable Internet Back Online After Windows Xp Reinstall?
Mar 13, 2011I have an older (but still good) computer...it's gotten to the point of being somewhat less than functional due to remnants of old programs and viruses and such scattered thoughout it. After a few weeks of fighting it to get it to run properly I think at this point my best option is to reformat the hard drive and re-install the original OS from CD. I've already backed up all my important files to CD and DVD, pretty much ready to pull the trigger here.... Concerned about getting back online! I have cable internet (Bresnan)...I want to make sure I have the proper drivers and any applicable software to get back online, I know people have had problems with this after reformatting....The computer is a dell dimension 8400, I'll be returning it to a windows XP home edt. with sp2 from the OS CD, (circa 2004ish). I plan on putting a comodo firewall installation on a CD as well, so I have a functional firewall in place (instead of the crappy norton one that will get re-installed) when I go to get the sp2 updates and the sp3 and updates and not just end up re-infected again...

Dec 31, 2011I have a win xp laptop which connects via wireless to a cheap belkin router I have a Win 7 pro laptop which is hardwired to the router. The Win 7 machine is NOT set up for home groups. We are all on the same workgroup.
I have added the user name from the XP machine to the Win 7 pro machine with admin rights. I shared a folder on Win 7 and added the user name and gave read/write rights. I have no software firewall.
When I try to connect via win explorer via the workgroup I see the Win 7 machine (after 10 seconds). I see 'User' folder which I can browse and I see the folder that I shared but I can't access it. Access denied...

- When connecting via wi-fi everything is fine
- When enabling my LAN WITH wi-fi still enabled I lose all internet connectivity
- When enabling my LAN and disabling wi-fi lose all internet connectivity

Windows Vista On A Dell Laptop / Wireless Works But Using LAN Cable Does Not
Nov 22, 2011I'm running Windows Vista on a Dell Laptop. Normally I just use wireless wherever I am but now I need to hard wire to the computer. It was initially working for a few minutes but then the connection dropped. Now whenever I plug the cable in, it shows it as being connected but comes up as local only so I can't browse or do anything.
I have tried:
-Restarting the machine
-Ensuring that windows was picking up the IP addresses automatically
-Checking the connection on another computer, works fine.
-Disabling the IpV6
-Disabling/Enabling the LAN connection in the Manage network connections setup
-Uninstalling, re installing the driver for the ethernet adapter
-System Restore
I've also tried in safe mode with networking and have disabled any firewalls that were running.Again, most of the time I never use the hard wired connection, but whenever I have, it hasn't had any problems until now.It always comes up as being connected, but says local only.

May 26, 2011 I cannot get wireless collection to work up stairs with the WUS600N Adaptor at all,and with the modem 20 feet from from my laptop downstairs i am only getting 3 BAR SIGNAL STRENTH.Just had Replacement WAG160N ALEX A V2 as my other one died ,(did not have a problem with the one sent back for replacement) Have the latest firmware 00.20 installed model serial No is SSH10JA11079.WUS600N V1 latest drivers for windows 7 .03.10.Windows detects the modem ok, but there is no signal at all up stairs and with the modem downstairs even the wireless on the laptop (15 feet from the modem) is only 3 bar signal strength ,did have this problem with the one I sent back.
