Dec 7, 2012I have a desktop CPU (without monitor) and a Acer D270 netbook.Desktop CPU has XP (SP3) and Netbook has XP SP3 and Win 7 (Dual boot).I wish to setup a LAN so I can access and view my desktop PC which is morepowerful than my netbook.How do I setup the LAN connection or use remote desktop? I have a lengthy crossover cable ready (2 sided RJ45 cable). Regarding performance, how good will it be. Can I play high quality games? The CPU has NVidia Graphics card.

The Wireless Was previously working fine though recently, has stopped working, all the other devices on the wireless network work fine (Asus Laptop, Iphone's etc). The hp laptop has no problem in connecting to the neighbours wireless and picking up a signal, however, when i go to search for the WAG320N im unable to find it in the list, sometimes it does appear, but after double clicking has trouble connecting to the wireless and will then dissapear from the list. I have tried manually entering the SSID and Password and seeing if it would connect, and also manually entering the IP address however no luck, no other device on the network has trouble finding the broadcast Signal Apart from the HP DV6-3139TX

It worked, so I decided to try and play Xbox Live through the use of the ethernet cable and it did not work. After messing around with it and failing to get it to work for my Xbox 360, the ethernet decided to quit working for my computer as well. (To try and get my Xbox to connect to the internet with the ethernet cord, I tried network bridging by bridging the ethernet connection with the wireless connection, then unplugging the ethernet cable from the wall so as to connect it from my laptop to Xbox 360. This didn't work so I just deleted the bridge. This is when the problem started happening as the local connection stopped appearing.) I am able to plug it in and see that in the Network and Sharing Center, however, it shows up as being unplugged. After a couple seconds though, it disappears. If I click on it fast enough, it shows up with an Error Code 45 after looking at the properties. I have tried typing in ipconnfig /all and the ethernet connection doesn't show up there either.

I recently bought a wifi router, and I found that when I plug the cable to one of the LAN ports and the laptop, it seems as if it wasn't connected at all (not detected on either side).I tried to format the system running on XP and I installed windows 7 but the problem persists.The only thing I can think of right now is using a crossover cable, but I somehow doubt that it should work since I tried plugging the router to my netbook (using a normal cable) and it worked like a charm. Sep 19, 2012I have just arrived at a friends house to stay for a while and my laptop does not connect to the internet properly through the wireless yet works perfectly when plugged into the router directly through ethernet cable. it is not the actual router's wireless that is broken because there are three other laptops that connect and work just fine.I have done several virus scans using AVG and Spybot Search and Destroy and other than incredibar nothing has been found so i dont think it is a virus. Nov 22, 2011I'm running Windows Vista on a Dell Laptop. Normally I just use wireless wherever I am but now I need to hard wire to the computer. It was initially working for a few minutes but then the connection dropped. Now whenever I plug the cable in, it shows it as being connected but comes up as local only so I can't browse or do anything.
I have tried:
-Restarting the machine
-Ensuring that windows was picking up the IP addresses automatically
-Checking the connection on another computer, works fine.
-Disabling the IpV6
-Disabling/Enabling the LAN connection in the Manage network connections setup
-Uninstalling, re installing the driver for the ethernet adapter
-System Restore
I've also tried in safe mode with networking and have disabled any firewalls that were running.Again, most of the time I never use the hard wired connection, but whenever I have, it hasn't had any problems until now.It always comes up as being connected, but says local only.

When I start the internetdiagnostics from windows, he says it's the modem or the connection from laptop, router, modem to internet. However, the lights indicating internet and dsl on the modem are brightly burning and the router shows nothing abnormal too.
I have a WPA2-PSK security, the modem is Zyxel. Also, the ethernetcable portal on my laptop is broken, so I can't do anything non-wireless. My phone has the same problem with this internet, it can get a connection, but no internet.
