Ethernet Cable Not Recognized By Laptop But Wifi Is

in the past my laptop has been able to connect directly to the internet using an Cat5e cable, but recently when I have been trying to direct connect, I have been unable to, and not sure when the problem started because I always used WiFi and it worked great. I do a lot of messing around, not only with my network, but with my laptop settings also, so something might have gone bunko. I have done much troubleshooitng, such as trying to update drivers, checking to see if the hardware was disabled, etc...

Yesterday I was on my computer when all of the sudden my internet stopped working. I am using windows 7 and at the bottom right I see a big "X" over the small computer icon. I already tried a computer reboot, a router+modem reboot, system restore, and I even reset the power to the room of the modem+router from the fuse box in my house. I tried everything.
I'm sure the problem must be from the actual cable or mother board itself. ( I hope it isn't ) I tried blowing out any dust from the ports and making sure that nothing was blocking the connection. I fell asleep last night with the internet not working, and woke up to it working. Every other computer in my house works except for mine. I tried all of the router ports as well. I did not attempt another ethernet cable though because my room is far and I would need to make a very long one.

An older post on this forum told me to remove the adapter's driver software and restart the system. I did this, and it tried to install the software on startup but it keeps failing when installing. Forcing it to look for new driver software resulted in it saying the best software is already installed.

I have a computer that runs windows 7, and I run an ethernet cable from netgear router into my computer. It used to run fine, but all of a sudden it stopped recognizing the ethernet cable, and I can not access internet.
I know it is not the cable because I can plug in the same ethernet cable to my laptop (runs XP) and it recognizes and I can access internet.
Also, I know it's not the slot on the router because because I switched places with my other ethernet cable that plugs into Netgear Powerline Ethernet Adapter for my Xbox, and the slot recognizes the adapter just fine.
So I am thinking it has to do something with Win 7 or the computer. My computer does have the wireless capability, and I am running it on wireless right now.

I have tried 3 cables and all three are not recognized even though they are plugged in. I have uninstalled network adapter and re installed it and i have updated the driver still nothing so i don't know what to do next.my laptop is a hp pavilion g6 series

Ever since moving back in with my dad, I haven't been able to connect directly to the modem. I can connect to the wireless network, but whenever I try and plug straight into the modem, nothing changes and I stay on the wireless. I'm running Windows 7?

and I am missing a few thing's since installing the windows 7 ultimate, the main thing is that the drivers for my Ethernet connection (wired) are now missing! I have searched online and with Acer and have downloaded a zip file FULL of different scary looking programs that don't make sense to me and none are simple enough to say "Ethernet driver for windows 7" .I can't access the interwebs in my OPS room without it being through an Ethernet cable.Here is a screen shot of the Ethernet controller window.

I have Lenovo laptop and my internet works just fine when the cable is connected but Wifi does not work. It shows that i have excellent signal on the side but it just wont connect. When i type in password it says " Windows cannot connect to XYZ ". I use Windows 7 and my wireless network adapter is Atheros AR9285.

I am going to use my ethernet cable to connect my pc to my xbox to use the PC as a bridge for the connection. My one question is, when I go to the adapter settings and go to the sharing tab on the properties of my wireless, what does the check box named 'Allow other users to connect through this computer's internet connection' do?

I recently moved into the dorms of my college and tried connecting my laptop to the internet using an ethernet cable. It worked, so I decided to try and play Xbox Live through the use of the ethernet cable and it did not work. After messing around with it and failing to get it to work for my Xbox 360, the ethernet decided to quit working for my computer as well. (To try and get my Xbox to connect to the internet with the ethernet cord, I tried network bridging by bridging the ethernet connection with the wireless connection, then unplugging the ethernet cable from the wall so as to connect it from my laptop to Xbox 360. This didn't work so I just deleted the bridge. This is when the problem started happening as the local connection stopped appearing.) I am able to plug it in and see that in the Network and Sharing Center, however, it shows up as being unplugged. After a couple seconds though, it disappears. If I click on it fast enough, it shows up with an Error Code 45 after looking at the properties. I have tried typing in ipconnfig /all and the ethernet connection doesn't show up there either.

I have a desktop computer for gaming and a laptop, but when I was assembling my desktop I didn't put in a wireless card thing so i've been able to get internet since by connecting my desktop and laptop (which has wireless) with an Ethernet cable and everything has been fine.Apart from a few days ago when it all stopped working, my laptop works fine as does my desktop but the desktop and laptop can't seem to connect anymore.

i have a DSL connection which is established using a dial-up (PPPoE) modem. I recently bought a wifi router, and I found that when I plug the cable to one of the LAN ports and the laptop, it seems as if it wasn't connected at all (not detected on either side).I tried to format the system running on XP and I installed windows 7 but the problem persists.The only thing I can think of right now is using a crossover cable, but I somehow doubt that it should work since I tried plugging the router to my netbook (using a normal cable) and it worked like a charm. But maybe the fact that it's a quite old laptop (PB MV51-101) has something to do?

I have just arrived at a friends house to stay for a while and my laptop does not connect to the internet properly through the wireless yet works perfectly when plugged into the router directly through ethernet cable. it is not the actual router's wireless that is broken because there are three other laptops that connect and work just fine.I have done several virus scans using AVG and Spybot Search and Destroy and other than incredibar nothing has been found so i dont think it is a virus. I thought it might have been the 6to4 adapter so i disabled to no avail.The problem is not connecting to the network as that works fine and every now and again i can get 10 minutes of internet use before it stops working. most of the time still saying i am connected to the internet for an extra 5 minutes then saying i have a local only connection[CODE]

I have an HP laptop (vista) and I can connect to the internet when I use the ethernet cable but when I don't have the ethernet in, it just says that it is an unidentified network and an only connect locally. I have run an ipconfig/all and this is what I get:

I have only one computer right now.Had two, and got very weak signal to laptop (since discarded) upstairs from Linksys g 54Mbits downstairs at main desktop computer desktop.I have tried three different kinds of 54Mbits wifi routers, all with no success.I'm going to get my wife a new wifi laptop for Christmas, and she wants to be able to use it all over the house.The 54Mbits will cover the downstairs, but, based on previous efforts, I am thinking of putting my modem in the garage, where the cable enters my house, and using a splitter on the cable coming out of the modem to make two IN cables, using one cable for my comp and a 54Mbits router (for downstairs coverage), and putting a second wifi router on the end of the upstairs cable, to cover the upstairs rooms.My house has cable outlets in every room, so I won't have to do any wiring.
I plan to leave the routers on all the time (at this time) subject to how much of a bandwidth drop they cause. I have a 100 Mbps connection, and I play games, so I'd like to retain as much bandwidth as possible. I assume the two "on" wifi routers will pull zero bandwidth as long as the laptop is off. (??)Or maybe I should just try an "n" wifi router, since they get twice the distance, and forget the cable splitter idea.

I have been using my laptop since a year now and yesterday suddenly my internet stopped working. On top of the connectivity bar a yellow sign appeared. Now my internet status is "No internet access" but when i connect my ethernet cable the internet starts working and i can see the "Internet access" status. I have re-installed my wi-fi driver too from the orignal CD that i got with my laptop, but still no luck also i did not install anything in past 1 week and the only anti-virus i have is Avast (tried disabling it too). I plugged out the cables from my router and plugged them again but that dint work too. There are 2 other laptops (running on windows 7 just like mine) on which the wifi connection is working but on mine it is not working.

I do not have access to internet (I'm on some unsecured internet from around here now, very slow). When I start the internetdiagnostics from windows, he says it's the modem or the connection from laptop, router, modem to internet. However, the lights indicating internet and dsl on the modem are brightly burning and the router shows nothing abnormal too.
I have a WPA2-PSK security, the modem is Zyxel. Also, the ethernetcable portal on my laptop is broken, so I can't do anything non-wireless. My phone has the same problem with this internet, it can get a connection, but no internet.

I am trying to bridge internet connection received from my laptop to my desktop with an ethernet cable. Both machines are running win 7.When I try to connect to my local area connection on the desktop most of the time it fails and I'm left with 'Unidentified network' and no internet connection. I am running a rather old Dell Inspiron 6400 on Vista. Recently Virgin installed their latest Hub / wireless router for me and since then i cannot make a wireless connection to the internet. Before that I use to be able to connect to my old router (Linksys Wireless-G 2.4Ghz) no problem! I can connect via the ethernet cable no problems. The WiFi is on and even when I disconnect the ethernet cable, the bottom right hand corner symbol says that I am connected but I cannot load the internet and keeps giving me this message:"The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded."The Virgin Media support team ran a check and told me that my wirless adaptor is out of date and needs updating so I went on Dell Support, downloaded and installed the follwoing drivers but still no joy!

I have a Dell Laptop Latitude 610 and I have not been able to connect to the Internet via the ethernet cable port for some four months now. I've tried downloading software from Dell's web site, I bought (and returned) and USB to Ethernet cable, only to find out that it was a model ahead of what this machine needs.I've asked local repair place (Microcenter) what it might be, but they'll only tell me after I pay $70 just to open it up.Another repair guy said that it is probably the motherboard and it wasn't worth fixing. I have an Acer aspire one netbook, model D255 which operates on Windows 7.Having trouble connecting to wifi connections. It worked fine initially, I tried turning the wifi switch on and off, it tells me that there are no wifi connections available, however everyone else Is able to connect via Wifi on their computers and myself without a problem on other devices.On troubleshooting it's says - that an Ethernet cable is broken or not plugged in properly, and is unable to fix the problem, as obviously I am not connected via any cable.I looked in network and it says that the Ethernet cable is unplugged and does not show any available networks.
