Yesterday I was on my computer when all of the sudden my internet stopped working. I am using windows 7 and at the bottom right I see a big "X" over the small computer icon. I already tried a computer reboot, a router+modem reboot, system restore, and I even reset the power to the room of the modem+router from the fuse box in my house. I tried everything.
I'm sure the problem must be from the actual cable or mother board itself. ( I hope it isn't ) I tried blowing out any dust from the ports and making sure that nothing was blocking the connection. I fell asleep last night with the internet not working, and woke up to it working. Every other computer in my house works except for mine. I tried all of the router ports as well. I did not attempt another ethernet cable though because my room is far and I would need to make a very long one.

An older post on this forum told me to remove the adapter's driver software and restart the system. I did this, and it tried to install the software on startup but it keeps failing when installing. Forcing it to look for new driver software resulted in it saying the best software is already installed.

I have a computer that runs windows 7, and I run an ethernet cable from netgear router into my computer. It used to run fine, but all of a sudden it stopped recognizing the ethernet cable, and I can not access internet.
I know it is not the cable because I can plug in the same ethernet cable to my laptop (runs XP) and it recognizes and I can access internet.
Also, I know it's not the slot on the router because because I switched places with my other ethernet cable that plugs into Netgear Powerline Ethernet Adapter for my Xbox, and the slot recognizes the adapter just fine.
So I am thinking it has to do something with Win 7 or the computer. My computer does have the wireless capability, and I am running it on wireless right now.

in the past my laptop has been able to connect directly to the internet using an Cat5e cable, but recently when I have been trying to direct connect, I have been unable to, and not sure when the problem started because I always used WiFi and it worked great. I do a lot of messing around, not only with my network, but with my laptop settings also, so something might have gone bunko. I have done much troubleshooitng, such as trying to update drivers, checking to see if the hardware was disabled, etc...

and I am missing a few thing's since installing the windows 7 ultimate, the main thing is that the drivers for my Ethernet connection (wired) are now missing! I have searched online and with Acer and have downloaded a zip file FULL of different scary looking programs that don't make sense to me and none are simple enough to say "Ethernet driver for windows 7" .I can't access the interwebs in my OPS room without it being through an Ethernet cable. Here is a screen shot of the Ethernet controller window.

A friend recently re-installed windows XP on their HP Laptop. They were connected wirelessly with a Linsys router (model wrt54g.1) and an RCA Cable Modem. The Cable ISP can ping the modem and gave me the IP address over the phone. I cannot ping the modem even when I take the router out of the loop. The network card (i1394) in the Laptop is functioning normally and I can see traffic on the modem (both the Cable Internet light and the PC activity light are flashing green) the ethernet port on the laptop is also flashing (amber). However I cannot reach the internet and cannot even ping the modem. The modem is brand new..

I have a desktop running windows XP Professional x32 SP3 and my network adapter is a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. The desktop is connected to the network with an ethernet cable.Up until yesterday the internet connectivity just stopped working. I am seeing a very low number of received packets as opposed to the high number when it was working. It is showing that it is connected to the network but I still can't access the internet. Also I should mention that the desktop is at work and it is connected to a DHCP server that assigns IP addresses. I have updated all the drivers and I have used Winsock Fix and Netsh but it still isn't working. However the weird thing is that if assign a static IP address to it...it works. But I can't do this because I am not suppose to hook it up to the ports assigned to the switch for static IP's. It has to be connected to the DHCP switch. Why does it work when assigned a static but not if it gets an IP assigned by the DHCP server or switch. Also even if I try to reset, renew or release the IP...when I connect again it still gives me the same IP. It wont change.

So, for some reason my internet connection started disconnecting about every 1-5 minutes. It worked fine this morning, however, when I turned my PC on a few hours ago it became very unstable. After it happens I have to reconnect to internet (it doesn't work all the time, I usually have to do it two times for it to work), and then again after a few minutes the connection dies. Tried restarting my computer, tried restarting the modem, tried the troubleshooting network thing (it keeps saying "Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration", but gives no solution). Also, I tried connecting on my cellphone and on a laptop and both of those work. However, those connect through WiFi, while my PC is connected through an ethernet cable[code]

I'm using a refurbished WRT54G2 v1.5 router. I've had the router for two and a half years and have never had a problem. I recently unplugged my DSL modem and this router to move them, and when I plugged them in again, the router stopped picking up the internet signal from the DSL modem. I'm able to get internet when I hardwire directly to the modem though. I tried resetting the router and setting the router up from scratch again, but now I just get error 321 Ethernet cable not connected when I try and run the setup cd.

Problem: My PS3 displays An Ethernet cable is not connected almost immediately after logging in. I am connected through a Linksys E2000 router. If I reset the cable modem, it will work for 10-15 minutes until it errors out again. If I plug the PS3 directly into the cable modem, it works fine. I'm really confused. I do not believe it is the router, as my computer is also connected to the router, and works fine. My Touchpad is connected wirelessly and also works fine. I do not believe it is the PS3, because it works fine if I plug it directly into the cable modem. I tried switching to wireless and it finds a lot of other signals (including mine), but I have the same problem if I choose wireless.I first had this problem with a launch PS3 and a Netgear router after almost three years of no problems.

I have an EA2700 (fimware "classic" 1.0.14.129982) that used to work perfectly fine with a Comcast cable modem. I just recently switched to Charter with an Arris TM902 modem and that's where the problems started. The cable modem will not recognize my router. I have to plug in a computer into the cable model when it starts up. Then I need to clone the MAC address and restart the router (after disconnecting the computer). Why isn't the cable modem recognizing the router when I restart it? I guess this could work if it would be a one time thing but I had to power-cycle the modem and it stopped recognizing the router even with the cloned MAC address. So I had to do the whole spiel again.
Is there any way to make this work easier? Should I update my router's firmware to the "smart" one?

I am having a problem with my Realtek RTL8168D/8111D PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. It is not detecting my ethernet cable, and thus leaving me without internet on my desktop, after i updated its driver. The cable is not the problem as I have tested the cable with my laptop. I tried rolling back drivers, doing system restore and removing drivers with driversweeper and letting windows install the drivers again. However, none of these worked for me. I doubt the NIC is faulty as it was working before i updated the drivers. I am using windows 7 home premium 64-bit.

I have a WAG160N wireless gateway . Yesterday when i tried to power it on after a couple of seconds the power led was solid green and the Ethernet leds were blinking with no Ethernet cable attached to the router . The ethernet leds would keep blinking for minutes . I tried to use a screwdriver to do a hardware reset ( with power on ) and i noticed that the power led would start blinking green/red for minutes . I tried to use another wired router which i have for backup and it could connect to the internet normally without a problem.
What the green / red blinking power led means ( power led is green and then changes to red and then it starts over ) ?

I have a Dell XPS M1530 with Vista 32 bit. When i plug in a cable i get nothing, no error, and the comp does not recognize that a cable has been plugged in. I think that this started after my Hard drive failed and Dell replaced it but i'm not positive. No errors (? or !) in Device Manager and I can't find the Marvell 88E80XX 10/100 Ethernet Controller in device manager. I have attempted to Reinstall the drivers. The wireless is still working. I have one Light to the right of the port that is on all the time solid but no flashing with the cable in or out.

Simple enough, my computer is connected to my modem/router hybrid but it will NOT connect to the internet. The router is providing internet just fine (I am currently typing this on my laptop using internet from that same laptop). I have tried everything. I've tried the different ports on the router, I've tried different ethernet cables, I've even had the modem/router replaced. None of this has worked, so I am convinced that it is somehow a problem with the settings of the computer which will simply not connect to the internet.
The computer will connect to the router (I can login and fiddle around with settings). I've tried re-installing the ethernet card's driver (it's built into my mobo). I've tried inputting IP and DNS servers manually, but nothing works.
Here is a copy of my ipconfig and my ipconfig /all.

I have a Netcomm NB9WMAXXn router and 3 laptops i want to connect to it wirelesslyThe problem is that the iwreless internet connection slows down and eventually drops out after about 30m unless one of the laptops remains connected via Ethernet to the router. The wireless laptops will remain connected to the router but the internet connection will fail. The laptop with Ethernet connection retains a very good connection so i'm thinking this is an issue with my router or it's configuration

It even lets my brother use wireless on his laptop. However, when I turn on my computer or when I connect it to the modem with an ethernet cord, the DSL light will go red and not work.

I have a strange problem with a SG300-10 (our first SG300) working as a desktop switch. When a PC that is connected to the switch is powered off and is later (a few minutes or next day) switched on, the PC has a ethernet-connection to the switch, but no IP-connectivity.The PC-statistics shows that ethernet is connected and it sends packets, but the PC does not receive any packets. At the same time the SG300 statistics for the port says, that the ethernet is connected (same paramaters as the PC) an that the switch is sending IP-packets (broadcast and unicast) to the port, but does not receive any packets. The switch shows follwing entries in the ram log for the port: [code]
With the older firmware 1.2.9.44 the IP-connectivity worked after waiting 5-10 minutes. With the new firmware 1.3.0.59 I can wait even 15 minutes, there is no change and nothing happens. But when I change some "unimportant" parameters of the port (i.e. change port speed from autonegation to fixed 1000M, or vice versa) and then save the running configuration to the startup-config, around 5-10 Seconds after the configuration is saved, the port gets full IP connectivity and after that works fine (until the PC is switched OFF and ON the next time). This is a very strange behaviour. As "PC" I have tested this with HP-workstations, Lenovo Thinkpad and a MAC Mini. The switch "reacts" to all the same.Following I have attached the config of the switch. [code]

I have a network closet where all the ethernet ports in each room of the house is routed to so wired routing performance must be good.I also need a good wifi network since we have multiple laptops and tablets we use around the home. I do have 2.4GHz and 5GHz devices so I need the dual, simultaneous wifi operation. The gear I can choose from to do this:
Asus RT-N56U
OR
Cisco RVS4000 + Netgear WNDAP360
The home is a 2-story unit and the networking closet is upstairs near the front of the house. If I go with the Asus RT-N56U, the wifi network will be centered in the network closet. If I go with the Cisco RVS4000 + Netgear WNDAP360, the Cisco router will be in the network closet and the Netgear WNDAP360 will be connected to an ethernet jack closer to the center of the house.

I'm trying to set up a system where a lecturer can sit at home and give his (video and audio) class across the street via an ethernet cable strung across the street. The only problem is he has a mac, and we in the class running it aren't going to leave our PCs for macs!Is there any simple way to connect the mac to PC (without running through a router, as it slows down the system)? If so, what programs will work best for both PC and mac for streaming the video (and are free)[BTW I don't think a 100m cable is too long for the signal.
