Cannot Connect To Internet Even Though Ethernet Is Connected
Aug 7, 2012
Am trying to fix my husband's computer, which seems to eb ok except that it cannot connect to the internet. The connection is wired and works fine (my computer, next to his, works well). I have tried pinging google.com and cannot resolve, but pinging numerical addresses works fine.
Simple enough, my computer is connected to my modem/router hybrid but it will NOT connect to the internet. The router is providing internet just fine (I am currently typing this on my laptop using internet from that same laptop). I have tried everything. I've tried the different ports on the router, I've tried different ethernet cables, I've even had the modem/router replaced. None of this has worked, so I am convinced that it is somehow a problem with the settings of the computer which will simply not connect to the internet.
The computer will connect to the router (I can login and fiddle around with settings). I've tried re-installing the ethernet card's driver (it's built into my mobo). I've tried inputting IP and DNS servers manually, but nothing works.
Here is a copy of my ipconfig and my ipconfig /all.

I have a desktop running windows XP Professional x32 SP3 and my network adapter is a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. The desktop is connected to the network with an ethernet cable.Up until yesterday the internet connectivity just stopped working. I am seeing a very low number of received packets as opposed to the high number when it was working. It is showing that it is connected to the network but I still can't access the internet. Also I should mention that the desktop is at work and it is connected to a DHCP server that assigns IP addresses. I have updated all the drivers and I have used Winsock Fix and Netsh but it still isn't working. However the weird thing is that if assign a static IP address to it...it works. But I can't do this because I am not suppose to hook it up to the ports assigned to the switch for static IP's. It has to be connected to the DHCP switch. Why does it work when assigned a static but not if it gets an IP assigned by the DHCP server or switch. Also even if I try to reset, renew or release the IP...when I connect again it still gives me the same IP. It wont change.
So, for some reason my internet connection started disconnecting about every 1-5 minutes. It worked fine this morning, however, when I turned my PC on a few hours ago it became very unstable. After it happens I have to reconnect to internet (it doesn't work all the time, I usually have to do it two times for it to work), and then again after a few minutes the connection dies. Tried restarting my computer, tried restarting the modem, tried the troubleshooting network thing (it keeps saying "Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration", but gives no solution). Also, I tried connecting on my cellphone and on a laptop and both of those work. However, those connect through WiFi, while my PC is connected through an ethernet cable[code]
I have the DIR-655, Rev. B running 2.07NA firmware, and have a strange problem with my wired clients. I have my primary computer/desktop PC connected via wired connection. I also have several wireless clients (laptop, iPad, iPhones, etc.). All have been performing normally. However, in December I connected a wired weather internet bridge to another ethernet port on the DIR-655.
It functions as it is supposed to, and all other connected devices do as well. But here's the problem - whenever I use the desktop PC (the only other wired connection) to do anything on the internet (mostly just web browsing ... I don't stream media from the internet on it, I don't do torrents....nothing out of the ordinary, and nothing really of high bandwidth), the wired weather bridge cannot communicate with its associated website. This continues as long as I'm using the desktop PC. When I stop using the desktop, the weather bridge resumes normally.
I have researched the weather bridge, and it is simply doing POST transactions (or so I'm told) to the website listening to it. It doesn't wait for acknowledgements or anything...just keeps POSTing updates. I tried reserving an IP for the weather bridge and the desktop, enabling QoS, and prioritizing the weather bridge (100 vs. desktop at 125), but it didn't work. I've tried moving the weather bridge into the DMZ. I'm totally baffled how just using the desktop to browse the internet could completely block the traffic from the weather bridge.
On the weather bridge support site, they suggested that I insure I'm not connected in gigabit speeds from my computer to the router, because in the past that has been known to cause issues on clients not running that speed, but I don't think my desktop is connected in that fashion. According to the settings, it can do 10 or 100, full or half. I have it set to AUTO.
I was very happy working with my WRT610N connected to the ethernetport of my previous internet modem. Recently I had to switch to a new modem CISCO EPC3925. Unfortunately this combination does not work anymore. I don't get an internet connection on my WRT610N anymore. I therefore have to connect all computers (LAN and WIFI) to this EPC3925. Especially for the WIFI I'm not fully happy. My IPAD2 sometimes does not want to connect, a problem which never occurred when connecting to WRT610N.
I probably need to change a setting, but where? In the EPC3925 or in WRT610N?
I was using my dlink dir 524 but when i change my isp i cannot connect my desktop via ethernet while the internet works good on my laptop via wifi i had done all thing by turning off firewall but no luck i was using xp on my desktop and windows 7 on laptop.
I have a desktop computer that I recently installed Windows xp on, and the computer is now missing the drivers. The problem is that the computer was built by a friend and I do not know exactly what drivers that may be needed for this computer connect to the web.
I recently bought my desktop home from my uni dorm and i can't seem to connect to the "unidentified network" which would be my home network. The Ethernet cable is flashing orange and my routers LAN port light is orange. Below is my current ipconfig.
In my college dorm, there are ethernet plugs in the wall. Yesterday, the internet was working fine, but today, when I tried using the internet, it'll connect to the (router? group?), but it won't connect to the internet. I've tried the same plug with my roommate's Macbook, and it worked just fine, so I am assuming it is a problem with my computer (or my own incompetence). Normally, I would just try restarting my modem, but that isn't an option here.
My router has been working fine until yesterday when it randomly stopped functioning for me. I can only connect to it via wireless. Other computers in my house can connect directly to it though. I have tried cycling the modem and router. Reinstalled drivers. Nothing, it just constantly says "identifying" for less than a second then reappear in a constant cycle. [code]
I have two computers in my house that are connected via ethernet using a switch. One computer is connected to a friends internet connection by wireless using a satellite dish. That computer is on XP and I have configured it as follows (IPv4)[CODE]
All of a sudden whenever I reboot my PC it can no longer see the router (ie it won't show up anything when I type in http://192.168.1.1) Usually I just mess about rebooting the router or reinitialising the network card (as instructed by the wizard!) eventually this works.... but not today...I can't connect - all the time the laptop connected wirelessly to the same router works fine. It's set up to obtain an automatic ip address whatever that means, could this be the problem ?? When I ping 192.168.1.1 (an instruction I found on another forum) it doesn't work..
For some reason, i cannot connect to the internet using my current ethernet cable. I am 100% positive that adapter is working fine, as i had maintenance come into my room and check it out, but my computer won't connect to their internet through my cable. [code]

I have my bigpond internet setup on my main pc,works fine connected to a router but i want to connect to the internet via ethernet cable on my 2nd pc. I have a ethernet port on the wall near it so that should work. I don't want to run a long ethenet cable from my router to my 2nd pc because there's a ethernet port right next to it.
my vaio vpcEh3f1e will not connect to the Internet, via Ethernet cable or wifi. All other laptops, iPads, mobiles are connecting fine apart from this laptop. It can connect in safe mode with networking.
i went over to my grandma house and got wireless mouse and the mouse uses a floppy disk to put some sort of wizard wireless network thing on my computer but now i cxan use said floppy disk be cause it broke but ever sence i used that i cant conect to the internet
My homemade computer onto the internet through Ethernet. I have a cable attached to my computer and it is lighting up as if it were working but I am not connected to a network. I know it is not a problem with my Ethernet cable because I have tried it on other computers successfully. When I entered ipconfig/all in the command prompt it showed up with media state as disconnected and no IP address.
I just did a fresh install of Windows XP 64 on an old computer (Asus) in my house. It's connected to an ethernet cable, but when I try to go online it says there is no connection and explorer "Cannot find server".I'm getting so frustrated.
Just got a new modem and it works fine while connected through an ethernet cord but I can't connect wirelessly. My network doesn't even show up in the list of available networks. I'm using Vista by the way. I've downloaded all drivers that seemed to have something to do with my problem. [code]
I cannot access any internet browsers. My OS is Vista and I use Verizon Fios. My computer is hooked up to my modem via ethernet cable.I have no computer and am chilling at friends house to use his internet on his lap top.
I recently got Fios installed in my home. I believe there is a box the size of a power box in the back room for the Internet. All my other devices (MAC, iPod, Blueray Player) are able to recieve instant and unbelieveable internet connection except for my Dell. I have a Studio XPS Dell computer with windows 7. I plugged in the ethernet cable in the back of my computer and into the "Fios Box" but i didn't recieve any internet. Then i bought a wireless adapter and I do get internet but it disconnects me like every 5 minutes.
So saturday, my friend and i build my computer. Everything worked just fine that day. Sunday i had no problem connecting to the internet. Sunday is also the day i set up a password for my admin account.
Now when i came back from work monday, i tried to log in to my computer. As it appears, i forgot my password... (same i use on everything, so i must have messed up inputting my pass)
So i did a windows reset, since i had no CD or USB to reset my pass. I tried installing windows, and it appears 'this copy of windows is not genuine'. I thought, okay, no prob, as long as i have all options.
My family just gave me their old Mac desktop, I wiped it clean and then tried to connect to the internet at my house and it tells me I have invalid password for the wireless. I also tried to connect it directly via ethernet cable that works and it will not connect. I want to connect my Mac directly with ethernet. All the other computers with internet work in my house so I know its not the internet. I will post below my computer specs and internet specs which I got from my other windows PC. I've tried manually putting in the ISP and DNS and nothing works.
I am in a College dorm and the only access to internet we have is by connecting an Ethernet cable to the connection in the wall and straight to the computer. That is how I have internet as we speak and it works fine. Problem is, that when I plug it in into the xbox it doesnt even connect to the network?
I have hp g60 230us. The hard drive crashed so I installed a new one. Then I installed new vista ultimate 64 bit. I plugged into desktop's netgear router with ethernet and still wont connect to internet. When I go start/run/regedit in local services there is no wireless listing on bottom to enable. When I try to connect it says there is problem with Realtek Nic and only shows Broadband ppoev, something. T hought maybe I need drivers from hp to make everything work again but having trouble. Downloaded network to file then burned to dvd r on other laptop. Not sure how to load onto laptop in question (hpg60 230us). Also tried command prompt/ ipconfig.
I have tried everything (to the best of my knowledge). I have tried stopping certain programmes from launching from start up (using msconfig.exe) and deselecting unnecessary programmes. The internet works in Safe Mode with Networking and I have run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware but to no-avail.The router is working because my iPad and other PC's are connected to the same network and are all operating perfectly. I am running on a wireless network and tried an ethernet connectinon but again noI have seen on a few forums that when people provide their HijackThis logs.[CODE]
I'm connecting to the internet using a wireless connection but i can't go online on either of my messengers nor go on the web using any of my browser but i can download things using my torrent programs(Bitcomet),I'm using an Acer laptop with 4gb DDR3 and Win 7.
I have been having an internet connection problem recently. My laptop can connect to networks, but not to the internet. I have tried two locations with wireless networks, and both do not work on my computer, but do on other computers, so I know it is my computer and not the network that is the problem
I have recently just joined hometelecom through a letting agency. Router came, I've installed and connected to my PC, but can't get an Internet connection?
