Connected Through Ethernet Cable But No Internet Access?

Jun 10, 2012

I have a desktop running windows XP Professional x32 SP3 and my network adapter is a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. The desktop is connected to the network with an ethernet cable.Up until yesterday the internet connectivity just stopped working. I am seeing a very low number of received packets as opposed to the high number when it was working. It is showing that it is connected to the network but I still can't access the internet. Also I should mention that the desktop is at work and it is connected to a DHCP server that assigns IP addresses. I have updated all the drivers and I have used Winsock Fix and Netsh but it still isn't working. However the weird thing is that if assign a static IP address to works. But I can't do this because I am not suppose to hook it up to the ports assigned to the switch for static IP's. It has to be connected to the DHCP switch. Why does it work when assigned a static but not if it gets an IP assigned by the DHCP server or switch. Also even if I try to reset, renew or release the IP...when I connect again it still gives me the same IP. It wont change.

PC Connected To Ethernet Cable - Internet Connection Keeps Disconnecting?

Mar 21, 2013

So, for some reason my internet connection started disconnecting about every 1-5 minutes. It worked fine this morning, however, when I turned my PC on a few hours ago it became very unstable. After it happens I have to reconnect to internet (it doesn't work all the time, I usually have to do it two times for it to work), and then again after a few minutes the connection dies. Tried restarting my computer, tried restarting the modem, tried the troubleshooting network thing (it keeps saying "Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration", but gives no solution). Also, I tried connecting on my cellphone and on a laptop and both of those work. However, those connect through WiFi, while my PC is connected through an ethernet cable[code]

Cable Connected But No Internet Access?

Mar 8, 2011

I have plugged my computer into the modem by way of a Ethernet cable and I immediately got a Local Area Network 2 icon that said a network cable is unplugged. Ive checked the cable with this PC, and it works. i tried this:1.) Shut dowm your PC.2.) Unplug the power cord. 3.) If you have a laptop, remove the battery as well. 4.) Walk away from the problem for at least 30 minutes. 5.) When you return, reconnect battery and power cord.5.) Start as usual.6.) If this solves the problem, take 20 minutes and post this to all of those message boards that you didn't find the solution to.

And This:Try a Simple Power Cycle ( as it is called so in Tech Terms )i,e Switch of the Computer/S , Router, Modem of your ISP Wait for 4 to 5 mins Switch on the Modem -- Wait untill all the lights come up and then again wait for 2 mins Switch on the Router -- Wait for 3 mins Switch on all other computers that are working, then check conectivity Switch on this computer that has a problem, then Try browsing.

This resolves most issues ( Basically it is the static in the unused ports that gets discharged )It that does not happen, delete all existing Lan Connection, Uninstall your network Driver, Reinstall the Drivers, then reconfigure you net connection then try It still that does not work out and you still get the " Network Cable Unplugged " Msg Then Unplug the Cable Then go to Start > Run > type regedit Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSIDThen Delete the key below {7007ACCF-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E} Then Restart the comp and reconnect the cable and then tryand this:Using windows xp, the quick fix for this is to reinstall the drivers for your NIC

Zyxel - Ethernet Cable Portal On Laptop Broken / Cannot Access Internet

Jun 20, 2012

I do not have access to internet (I'm on some unsecured internet from around here now, very slow). When I start the internetdiagnostics from windows, he says it's the modem or the connection from laptop, router, modem to internet. However, the lights indicating internet and dsl on the modem are brightly burning and the router shows nothing abnormal too.

I have a WPA2-PSK security, the modem is Zyxel. Also, the ethernetcable portal on my laptop is broken, so I can't do anything non-wireless. My phone has the same problem with this internet, it can get a connection, but no internet.

Motorola SURFboard Extreme Cable Modem Is Connected But No Internet Access

Nov 7, 2012

Today I purchased a Motorola SURFboard extreme Cable Modem DOCSIS 3.0 in order to replace my old modem which is out of date and has been very slow as of late. I connected the coaxial cable, Ethernet cable(to Linksys wireless router), and power expecting it to simply work. All four lights came on green (power, downstream, upstream, connectivity). The downstream light turned blue which indicates a bonded connection. The device light was blinking on the modem. I connected to my wireless router, but no internet access. I then tried connecting my laptop to the modem directly via Ethernet cable, still no access. I think that rules out the router being the problem. I also ruled out my laptop being the problem as the same thing is occurring with my other laptop and desktop. I called my ISP (Cox Cable) and had them re-establish connection with my modem, this did nothing. I thought for sure this meant I had purchased a faulty modem; I hooked up my old modem and the results were the same, the modem connected fully with no problem (all four lights were green) but I have no internet access.

Cannot Ping Modem Even Connected Via Ethernet Cable

Apr 22, 2011

A friend recently re-installed windows XP on their HP Laptop. They were connected wirelessly with a Linsys router (model wrt54g.1) and an RCA Cable Modem. The Cable ISP can ping the modem and gave me the IP address over the phone. I cannot ping the modem even when I take the router out of the loop. The network card (i1394) in the Laptop is functioning normally and I can see traffic on the modem (both the Cable Internet light and the PC activity light are flashing green) the ethernet port on the laptop is also flashing (amber). However I cannot reach the internet and cannot even ping the modem. The modem is brand new..

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G2 Ethernet Cable Not Connected

Feb 17, 2013

I'm using a refurbished WRT54G2 v1.5 router.  I've had the router for two and a half years and have never had a problem. I recently unplugged my DSL modem and this router to move them, and when I plugged them in again, the router stopped picking up the internet signal from the DSL modem. I'm able to get internet when I hardwire directly to the modem though. I tried resetting the router and setting the router up from scratch again, but now I just get error 321 Ethernet cable not connected when I try and run the setup cd.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2000 - PS3 Error / Ethernet Cable Is Not Connected

Nov 19, 2011

Problem: My PS3 displays An Ethernet cable is not connected almost immediately after logging in. I am connected through a Linksys E2000 router.  If I reset the cable modem, it will work for 10-15 minutes until it errors out again.  If I plug the PS3 directly into the cable modem, it works fine. I'm really confused. I do not believe it is the router, as my computer is also connected to the router, and works fine. My Touchpad is connected wirelessly and also works fine. I do not believe it is the PS3, because it works fine if I plug it directly into the cable modem. I tried switching to wireless and it finds a lot of other signals (including mine), but I have the same problem if I choose wireless.I first had this problem with a launch PS3 and a Netgear router after almost three years of no problems.

Ethernet Connected But No Internet

Sep 14, 2012

Simple enough, my computer is connected to my modem/router hybrid but it will NOT connect to the internet. The router is providing internet just fine (I am currently typing this on my laptop using internet from that same laptop). I have tried everything. I've tried the different ports on the router, I've tried different ethernet cables, I've even had the modem/router replaced. None of this has worked, so I am convinced that it is somehow a problem with the settings of the computer which will simply not connect to the internet.

The computer will connect to the router (I can login and fiddle around with settings). I've tried re-installing the ethernet card's driver (it's built into my mobo). I've tried inputting IP and DNS servers manually, but nothing works.

Here is a copy of my ipconfig and my ipconfig /all.

Now when i came back from work monday, i tried to log in to my computer. As it appears, i forgot my password... (same i use on everything, so i must have messed up inputting my pass)

So i did a windows reset, since i had no CD or USB to reset my pass. I tried installing windows, and it appears 'this copy of windows is not genuine'. I thought, okay, no prob, as long as i have all options.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Connected A Wired Weather Internet Bridge To Another Ethernet Port

Feb 14, 2013

I have the DIR-655, Rev. B running 2.07NA firmware, and have a strange problem with my wired clients.  I have my primary computer/desktop PC connected via wired connection.  I also have several wireless clients (laptop, iPad, iPhones, etc.).  All have been performing normally.  However, in December I connected a wired weather internet bridge to another ethernet port on the DIR-655.

It functions as it is supposed to, and all other connected devices do as well. But here's the problem - whenever I use the desktop PC (the only other wired connection) to do anything on the internet (mostly just web browsing ... I don't stream media from the internet on it, I don't do torrents....nothing out of the ordinary, and nothing really of high bandwidth), the wired weather bridge cannot communicate with its associated website.  This continues as long as I'm using the desktop PC.  When I stop using the desktop, the weather bridge resumes normally.

I have researched the weather bridge, and it is simply doing POST transactions (or so I'm told) to the website listening to it.  It doesn't wait for acknowledgements or anything...just keeps POSTing updates. I tried reserving an IP for the weather bridge and the desktop, enabling QoS, and prioritizing the weather bridge (100 vs. desktop at 125), but it didn't work.  I've tried moving the weather bridge into the DMZ. I'm totally baffled how just using the desktop to browse the internet could completely block the traffic from the weather bridge.

On the weather bridge support site, they suggested that I insure I'm not connected in gigabit speeds from my computer to the router, because in the past that has been known to cause issues on clients not running that speed, but I don't think my desktop is connected in that fashion.  According to the settings, it can do 10 or 100, full or half.  I have it set to AUTO.
