View 1 RepliesI have a Netgear 600 dual band router connected to a DOCIS 3.0 cable modem with a 25mps internet connection from my ISP, should be fast right? When I run a speed test on my comp I get 10-13 mbps download on average. Here's the issue, upon visiting my mothers house and running the same speed test I got very similar results. She is running a Lynksys G router on a DOCIS 2.0 cable modem with 12mps connection. My question is, how can this be so, am I at the limits of my comps g network card? as a disclaimer I would like to note I am connected to the G band on both routers.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA few days ago my mother's computer suffered a burned out motherboard ethernet adapter due to the PPPoE box on the roof of our building getting hit during a thunderstorm (apparently). I decided to buy a separate ethernet card, as her computer had a PCI slot free at the time - why not use it? I ended up buying a cheapo D-Link DFE-520TX. Anyway, I took it home, booted up the computer (running Windows XP with SP2 I believe) and installed the drivers supplied with the card. The instructions clearly stated to install drivers first, then physically install the card. I did so - everything went smoothly, popped the card in, booted the computer up again. Card was found, no problems. Except when I plugged the network cable in, the card remained idle. No blinking green activity light, no reaction from the Local Area Connection on the computer, nothing. Device Manager/Properties tells me everything is working just fine - except that the card itself doesn't "work". Took it back to the store, they plugged it into their test machine - everything worked just fine, green light blinking, internet access, etc. I've since tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device, swapping PCI slots (the second one is taken up by a Sound Blaster Pro). No dice - the audio card works in either slot, the network card doesn't work anywhere.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA friend recently re-installed windows XP on their HP Laptop. They were connected wirelessly with a Linsys router (model wrt54g.1) and an RCA Cable Modem. The Cable ISP can ping the modem and gave me the IP address over the phone. I cannot ping the modem even when I take the router out of the loop. The network card (i1394) in the Laptop is functioning normally and I can see traffic on the modem (both the Cable Internet light and the PC activity light are flashing green) the ethernet port on the laptop is also flashing (amber). However I cannot reach the internet and cannot even ping the modem. The modem is brand new..
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop running windows XP Professional x32 SP3 and my network adapter is a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. The desktop is connected to the network with an ethernet cable.Up until yesterday the internet connectivity just stopped working. I am seeing a very low number of received packets as opposed to the high number when it was working. It is showing that it is connected to the network but I still can't access the internet. Also I should mention that the desktop is at work and it is connected to a DHCP server that assigns IP addresses. I have updated all the drivers and I have used Winsock Fix and Netsh but it still isn't working. However the weird thing is that if assign a static IP address to it...it works. But I can't do this because I am not suppose to hook it up to the ports assigned to the switch for static IP's. It has to be connected to the DHCP switch. Why does it work when assigned a static but not if it gets an IP assigned by the DHCP server or switch. Also even if I try to reset, renew or release the IP...when I connect again it still gives me the same IP. It wont change.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo, for some reason my internet connection started disconnecting about every 1-5 minutes. It worked fine this morning, however, when I turned my PC on a few hours ago it became very unstable. After it happens I have to reconnect to internet (it doesn't work all the time, I usually have to do it two times for it to work), and then again after a few minutes the connection dies. Tried restarting my computer, tried restarting the modem, tried the troubleshooting network thing (it keeps saying "Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration", but gives no solution). Also, I tried connecting on my cellphone and on a laptop and both of those work. However, those connect through WiFi, while my PC is connected through an ethernet cable[code]
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using a refurbished WRT54G2 v1.5 router. I've had the router for two and a half years and have never had a problem. I recently unplugged my DSL modem and this router to move them, and when I plugged them in again, the router stopped picking up the internet signal from the DSL modem. I'm able to get internet when I hardwire directly to the modem though. I tried resetting the router and setting the router up from scratch again, but now I just get error 321 Ethernet cable not connected when I try and run the setup cd.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe wireless router, which is a linksys E1200 is completely new. I setup the entire wireless and there was no problems on that front. The problem is the wireless connection. Even when I am within a few inches of the router, I couldn't even load a youtube video properly. It buffers every 2 seconds. But when I plug the cable into my computer, it works completely fine. The signal strength is excellent all the time.
I tried using inSSIDer to look for the number of connections within my area for the one with the least inteference and found that I'm already on the good one, or actually, all of them looked more or less the same. But I tried changing anyways from 1 to 6 to 11, and none of them made a difference.I then tried changing my Wireless Security to WPA2 Personal. Then I tried changing the Wireless Network Mode to Wireless-G Only instead of Mixed and the wireless speed increased.
Problem: My PS3 displays An Ethernet cable is not connected almost immediately after logging in. I am connected through a Linksys E2000 router. If I reset the cable modem, it will work for 10-15 minutes until it errors out again. If I plug the PS3 directly into the cable modem, it works fine. I'm really confused. I do not believe it is the router, as my computer is also connected to the router, and works fine. My Touchpad is connected wirelessly and also works fine. I do not believe it is the PS3, because it works fine if I plug it directly into the cable modem. I tried switching to wireless and it finds a lot of other signals (including mine), but I have the same problem if I choose wireless.I first had this problem with a launch PS3 and a Netgear router after almost three years of no problems.

I've some troubles connecting my PS3 to my RV120W.Both router and PS3 have latest firmwares. They are connected wireless (distance is about 10 mt, signal is good).PS3 ip is in DMZ (connection doesn't work with only Upnp), and ip fragmentation is enabled.Everything seems to work (NAT type 2), but downloading on PS3 is extremely slow. My ADSL is a 6Mb, download speed on PS3 seems like more than ten times lower (I don't know how to test it..). Plus, downloading a 100 MB patch is almost impossile, cause sooner or later I get an error and i have to restart. Two of my PCs are connected wireless, so I guess wi-fi is not the problem.

When I'm hardwired to the router the speed goes back up and everything is fine. The only problem is the wifi. Its not the ISP because my roommates aren't having a problem with their wifi at all. I haven't changed anything on my computer except updated some drivers since I set up the router. My network card drivers are up to date and so is the router's drivers. I'm also doing all this about 5 feet away from the router.

I have an issue with slow downloading and uploading on u torrent with my wired router linksys BEFSX41. I thought it may be because I didn't set port forwarding on the specific ports the u torrent use.
But every time When I try to set new port forwarding rules on my router's control panel its asks me for a password and user. Although I know this password and user it will keep asking me about them without saving the new port forwarding settings.

It is not detecting my ethernet cable, and thus leaving me without internet on my desktop, after i updated its driver. The cable is not the problem as I have tested the cable with my laptop. I tried rolling back drivers, doing system restore and removing drivers with driversweeper and letting windows install the drivers again. However, none of these worked for me. I doubt the NIC is faulty as it was working before i updated the drivers. I am using windows 7 home premium 64-bit.

What the green / red blinking power led means ( power led is green and then changes to red and then it starts over ) ?
I have a Dell XPS M1530 with Vista 32 bit. When i plug in a cable i get nothing, no error, and the comp does not recognize that a cable has been plugged in. I think that this started after my Hard drive failed and Dell replaced it but i'm not positive. I recently acquired a new mobo to tide me over until I can get the spare money to order a new one (which probably won't be until after the first of the year) however, the board, while better than what I had, has some problems hence why I got it so "cheaply". The problems I had with it have been fixable/liveable with. Anyways, here's a description of my problem and some brief applicable system specs.
The ethernet port on this board was bad, knew that from purchase date. However I ordered a brand new card (10/100MB NIC PCI Ethernet Card), installed it, and the drivers all loaded, and the card is listed as working properly. I have no internet connection or network connection even listed. The way my system runs is as follows.
Computer/Ethernet Card -> Cat5 -> ASUS Router -> Cat6 -> ISP Router -> Outside
I have tried hard lining it direct from the ISP Router as well to no avail.I've even tried using the ipconfig.exe commands. Including /release, /flushdns, /renew. But, whenever I open the DOS panel with the command it just disappears in a millisecond.I know the PCI port on the board isn't bad because I literally just removed my USB expansion card from it to install this one. I even tried switching it with the other 2 PCI cards I have installed and they all work perfectly so it's not the PCI slot.
I just got a XPS 14z. The wireless signal isn't consistent and it is weaker than my old XPS 1330. It's actually painfully slow. Every thing is exactlly the same. I have my old computer next to the new computer and the wireless signal is working much better on the old computer. Pages are loading more quickly on the older model. Howothers wireless is performing on their 14z? There is nothing wrong with the router or internet connection.
