I have a Belkin usb adapter to pick up my wireless internet. problem is when i choose my network to connect to it constantly says "acquring network address". But as soon as i plug in an ethernet cable from the router the wireless starts working and i just unplug the ethernet cble. So why does my wireelss card depend on my ethernet conenction?
View 7 RepliesI have the Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router, when i hook my at&t modem to the modem port on the router the wireless portion of the router works, when i plug any pc into the Ethernet ports it doesnt work!If i plug the modem into the Ethernet port and plug other pcs into the other existing Ethernet ports it works by Ethernet but not wireless.

However, if i switch to a wireless adapter it sometimes works (like right now) even when my brother is not using the internet. Also, i tried to connect via wifi on my macbook pro to the same server and it used to work flawlessly 100% of the time, now i can only connect once in a while for short periods of times.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using my laptop since a year now and yesterday suddenly my internet stopped working. On top of the connectivity bar a yellow sign appeared. Now my internet status is "No internet access" but when i connect my ethernet cable the internet starts working and i can see the "Internet access" status. I have re-installed my wi-fi driver too from the orignal CD that i got with my laptop, but still no luck also i did not install anything in past 1 week and the only anti-virus i have is Avast (tried disabling it too). I plugged out the cables from my router and plugged them again but that dint work too. There are 2 other laptops (running on windows 7 just like mine) on which the wifi connection is working but on mine it is not working.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAll wires terminate in the basement as a RJ-45 plug, to be plugged into a switch housed in an old circuit breaker box. The first wire went off without a hitch, the jack works, the plug works, all is right with the world. The router for the home is currently plugged into that outlet so as to give the entire network as we build it internet. The second outlet is giving us problems though. I've fished the wire up the wall as before, and the length of wire is shorter than the first run. When I terminate the end upstairs as a jack, then plug in my laptop, it refuses to connect. It says the network cable is unplugged. If I terminate the cable as a plug, then plug it directly into the laptop, suddenly everything works. I have tried so far 3 different jacks, tested continuity on the jacks, and tested continuity on the wire to the jack pins to make sure the terminal block was working and everything came back green

If I install one matched pair, the wireless network is found and will connect to the network. If I install all four, the network is not found and the wireless will not connect. The network card is Netgear G PCI adapter 54MBTS 2.4GHz.

Yesterday I had internet without any problems but this morning when I turned my computer on, the light on it wasn't blinking. Tried turning power on/off, unplugging and pluhging back but still no solution.Checked Device Manager and there is no (!) or (?) next to the device name. Also it says device is working properly. Even did the "scan for hardware changes" and again it shows that device is working properly.. But that's not all! The weirdest thing here is that my 3 neighbours who are from the same ISP have the exact same problem. We're connectrd to 1 box that is outside. The other part of the village that is on the same ISP has no such problems. So I'm wondering if it's a local corrupt cable problem or our cards have fried. I believe we use fiber optic cables.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy parents have a windows 7 desktop with ethernet plugged in for internet. I use a Asus EEE 1005HA with jolicloud. They do not have wireless, only wired internet. When I plug in the ethernet cable, the netbook doesn't recognize the internet access. Nothing wrong with the ethernet port on the netbook, as i've used wired network at my dorm and the port does recognize the ethernet cable at my parents' house.
Also, is it possible to use the desktop as a sort of wireless router? Would connecting a usb wireless dongle to the desktop allow me to connect my netbook to the internet via the desktop?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently moved into the dorms of my college and tried connecting my laptop to the internet using an ethernet cable. It worked, so I decided to try and play Xbox Live through the use of the ethernet cable and it did not work. After messing around with it and failing to get it to work for my Xbox 360, the ethernet decided to quit working for my computer as well. (To try and get my Xbox to connect to the internet with the ethernet cord, I tried network bridging by bridging the ethernet connection with the wireless connection, then unplugging the ethernet cable from the wall so as to connect it from my laptop to Xbox 360. This didn't work so I just deleted the bridge. This is when the problem started happening as the local connection stopped appearing.) I am able to plug it in and see that in the Network and Sharing Center, however, it shows up as being unplugged. After a couple seconds though, it disappears. If I click on it fast enough, it shows up with an Error Code 45 after looking at the properties. I have tried typing in ipconnfig /all and the ethernet connection doesn't show up there either.

The internet doesn't work with cable nor Wi-Fi and I've tried almost everything, ping, configuring the DNS, IP, disabling everything, enabling everything, nslookup doesn't work, releasing and renewing doesn't work too, and to make things worst.(In the main computer, everything works just fine and the router settings appear to be correct too, my computer also works perfectly fine in other places with WLAN).
View 14 Replies View RelatedA few days ago my mother's computer suffered a burned out motherboard ethernet adapter due to the PPPoE box on the roof of our building getting hit during a thunderstorm (apparently). I decided to buy a separate ethernet card, as her computer had a PCI slot free at the time - why not use it? I ended up buying a cheapo D-Link DFE-520TX. Anyway, I took it home, booted up the computer (running Windows XP with SP2 I believe) and installed the drivers supplied with the card. The instructions clearly stated to install drivers first, then physically install the card. I did so - everything went smoothly, popped the card in, booted the computer up again. Card was found, no problems. Except when I plugged the network cable in, the card remained idle. No blinking green activity light, no reaction from the Local Area Connection on the computer, nothing. Device Manager/Properties tells me everything is working just fine - except that the card itself doesn't "work". Took it back to the store, they plugged it into their test machine - everything worked just fine, green light blinking, internet access, etc. I've since tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device, swapping PCI slots (the second one is taken up by a Sound Blaster Pro). No dice - the audio card works in either slot, the network card doesn't work anywhere.

I tried connecting a blackberry, a playstation3 and 2 different laptops using the WPS option (button or PIN, doesn't matter) and the devices would simply not talk to each other. I can understand problems with the PS3 but the blackberry and the laptops were (and still are) able to connect using WPS on my previous router - WAG54G2. Pairing of the devices by supplying a password works fine, this is a problem only with the WPS functionality. My firmware is V1.00.16.

All tests we found out that this modem doesn't work with this VOIP phones.
