Connection Of Two Windows 7 PC's Over WLAN While Crossed Cable Works
Apr 7, 2011
I'm trying to connect my desktop to my laptop over the WLAN. Both computers are connected to the router, as well as I've got no problems sharing files to my PS3 via media servers. But connecting the two computers is impossible. I've tried everything I can think of. I've tried connecting the two both using Homegroup services, and in the old fashion way, without the Homegroup service, using only IPv4.It seems like firewall settings and sharing in general works ok, but making it work over WLAN is very troublesome.
I'm running Windows Vista on a Dell Laptop. Normally I just use wireless wherever I am but now I need to hard wire to the computer. It was initially working for a few minutes but then the connection dropped. Now whenever I plug the cable in, it shows it as being connected but comes up as local only so I can't browse or do anything.
I have tried:
-Restarting the machine -Ensuring that windows was picking up the IP addresses automatically -Checking the connection on another computer, works fine. -Disabling the IpV6 -Disabling/Enabling the LAN connection in the Manage network connections setup -Uninstalling, re installing the driver for the ethernet adapter -System Restore
I've also tried in safe mode with networking and have disabled any firewalls that were running.Again, most of the time I never use the hard wired connection, but whenever I have, it hasn't had any problems until now.It always comes up as being connected, but says local only.
I try connecting via ethernet cable and it doesn't seem to work until the administrator of the network (my brother) comes home and then turns his computer on and starts using it. However, if i switch to a wireless adapter it sometimes works (like right now) even when my brother is not using the internet. Also, i tried to connect via wifi on my macbook pro to the same server and it used to work flawlessly 100% of the time, now i can only connect once in a while for short periods of times.
At random times the network cable is apparently unplugged but then it reconnects and then I cant receive anything.I disconnect the LAN then reconnect and then it works again. This is on a winXp computer.
Using Windows 7 Pro. I get a yellow triangle with ! on the LAN icon. The message is : 'no internet access' but the internet works. On Network and sharing center, using work network, everything is ok.It doesn't happen all the time.
I have a cable internet connection in win-7 PC,I need to share this internet to a windows 8 laptop.I'm looking for cheap solution( so not going for WiFi routers)how to use ICS(internet connection share) in windows 8 can I fix it with a network switch?[URL]
I'm visiting my friend at her apartment and her internet only works through an ethernet cable. I unplugged the cable from her computer and plugged it into mine and it worked perfectly but when we switched it back to her computer her internet takes forever to identify and ends with local only connection how do we fix her computer?
I recently finished my basement and put together a home entertainment system. I ran ethernet through the walls to a wall jack. I plugged my laptop into it and it tested good (internet worked and pinged my router 1ms time & 64 TTL.) I put an A/V rack in front of it and brought down my Netgear GS605 switch, XBox360, BD player that had all been on the network upstairs and added a new LAN capable receiver. None of those components will recognize the network. Light doesn't light on the switch(neither amber nor green,) Xbox doesn't recognize a cable is even plugged in. I unplug the switch and using the same cables my laptop picks it up just fine. I bypassed the switch and went strait to the other A/V gear and none of them recognize the network.By the way, the switch is auto detect between patch/crosssover. The IP settings are all the same from when the gear was connected upstairs.
I've been using the Linksys router e1000 N type for a week now and it hasn't beeen such a great experience. The thing is when i connect the modem to my laptop via ethernet cable internet works but not when i connect the cable to the router even though this worked before. actually a few hours before. so i dont know whats happened to my router since clearly the problem is in there. the modem has lights for PC Cable DATA and POWER. The lights to all of them blink when i have connected the modem directly to laptop but the PC light is non existent when i connect it to router. hence i get no internet access. the routers power is on so i dont know what the prob is ive rebooted it a few times but to no avail.
I plug the Lenovo in to the Ethernet cable in my office, get link & data transfer lights, connect to the internet, everything works.Bring it out to different office (it's replacing an old XP machine, which connects on the cable I'm about to mention)Plug it in to ethernet, no lights, Network Cable is Unplugged.Plug cable back into old XP machine. It connects.
Bring out a Win7 Home Premium SP1 laptop. It connects.Plug back into Idea center, nothing. Drag idea centre back into my office. It works again. The Idea centre is new, so it's never worked on this area before. Also, I have 3, and they're behaving identically. ALSO, sometimes when I plug in the Ethernet cable the green and yellow indicator lights will blink once at me, and then never again.
The cable's good, works with 2 other machines. The port/NIC card is good, works in my office, the only difference between the two locations is that I have an extra router in my office that I don't have in the office the Lenovo is going in, so it MUST be something in the settings, but I can't tell what's different between the machines that work and the Lenovo.
I have a 80ft cat5 ethernet cable I got cut at compusa about 3years ago to go across the house to my room. I used to have an a really old computer but about 6months ago I bought a brand new top of the line computer and got really excited and set it up on my desk in my room to discover my ethernet cable wasnt being detected on my computer. The weird part is that it works with other computers.. I had my gf's laptop(3yo) using it, my dads(3yo), my older computer that I dont use anymore but whenever I connect mines it doesnt work.I test hooking up a few different cables to my computer and they work but that one specificly wont.
my computer just randomly stopped connecting to the intenet. I checked my other computers and phone and found they were all working fine. I was having internet problems pior to this happening (internet was being very slow and some web pages and some videos wouldn't load. I think the latter had to do with flash player though.) I had also been doing some stupid stuff on my comp that I know can give you viruses. Furthermore I also knew that due to previous virus's I was not able to do a restore. So as you have probably gathered my computer was pretty buggered even before this problem. So decided to restore to factory default using some backup images I made when I first got the comp. That went smoothly however the internet stilll doesn't work unless I plus it in using a ethernet cable.
I have been using my laptop since a year now and yesterday suddenly my internet stopped working. On top of the connectivity bar a yellow sign appeared. Now my internet status is "No internet access" but when i connect my ethernet cable the internet starts working and i can see the "Internet access" status. I have re-installed my wi-fi driver too from the orignal CD that i got with my laptop, but still no luck also i did not install anything in past 1 week and the only anti-virus i have is Avast (tried disabling it too). I plugged out the cables from my router and plugged them again but that dint work too. There are 2 other laptops (running on windows 7 just like mine) on which the wifi connection is working but on mine it is not working.
I have a Latop Asus A52F Series and the problem is that My internet works fine with the cable but when I want to connect to wireless I cant I keep getting messages windows unable to connect to my wireless called Linksys E2000 Advanced. it works fine with cable but doesnt work with WIRELESS
We have a customer who has a WAG120N as their broadband wireless router, and we've sold them some new equipment, part of which is another WAG120N as our salesperson didn't realise they had one. They have a section of the building which the current WAG120N will not reach. Reading around this forum, it seems that I can give the second WAG120N a different static IP on the LAN and use it to expand the range of the WLAN.If I've read correctly, I need to make all the wireless stuff exactly the same except to use different wireless channels on each router. But what do I do with the DHCP server on the second WAG? Is it fair to say that the clients won't suddenly jump to a different IP because they won't have a cause to request a new one? I read one comment that suggested the second should be configured for DHCP relay, and another which contradicted this. Presumably I just don't configure the ADSL on the second WAG as that will only connect to the LAN.
Had talk talk router upgrade yesterday and everything worked fine. Today wifi works on MacBook but not on PC Windows xp3. It appears in the list but won't connect on pc. Can connect to an unsecure weak connection on the list but it's not mine. Been in to router to chnage channel from auto to 11 as an eg
I have Lenovo laptop and my internet works just fine when the cable is connected but Wifi does not work. It shows that i have excellent signal on the side but it just wont connect. When i type in password it says " Windows cannot connect to XYZ ". I use Windows 7 and my wireless network adapter is Atheros AR9285.

I just bought a "DLink Xtreme N Gigabit Router DIR-655" I configured it correctly. It works well for the wireless connection but my Lan connection (wired connection) does not work. The Lan computer connects to the router but cannot access the internet. All of my machines work OK with a Netgear G router, including the Lan computer.
Recently I have changed my ISP and switched from an ADSL (4Mbps) connection to a faster fiber connection (100Mbps). I own an WAG120N which after firmware 1.00.12 (currently installed on the device is 1.00.16) should allow LAN1 to be used as WLAN. This is true and I can use it to connect to the new provider.
However the speed when using LAN1 as WLAN on WAG120N is very slow: download 20Mbps and upload 10Mbps. The LED on LAN1 is orange instead of green as before. I have tested the ISP connection with an WRT160NL and the speeds are much faster: download/upload 87Mbps
my internet only works in safe mode with networking but outside of safe mode i dosent work and i cant use the internet as i have seen in other cases they asked for a hijackthis scan so i done one and ask if you wish
Worked fine and then all of a sudden the Internet didn't work anymore. So I ran the computer in safe mode and it works fine, but still no luck in regular mode. Ran worm removal and spybot but nothing has worked. Also the windows bar is missing now for some reason. Windows Xp Service Pack 3.
I moved to a new house last week, and i have comcast internet which works on cable lines.i have them for years. anyways, i got my own motorola sb5101 modem, which i use for a while now.the problem is that in the new house the modem only works when it is connected to a computer with windows xp, it DOES NOT work on windows vista or 7,also, when i connect my router into it, it does not work either.when i connect it to windows 7 64-bit, it says "unidentified network" and "no internet access" but it works perfectly fine on windows xp 32 bit. (i have 2 xp's and 3 windows 7's)
I can only connect to the development server when I am logged into the VPN (Cisco VPN)I do most of my work on my desktop, which is running XP sp3. While logged into the vpn there, I can reach the SVN and FTP servers fine, but I cannot connect to the development website to view anything.I also have a laptop that is running windows 7. When I connect to VPN on that, I can connect to the website just fine. It is all from within my house so using the same router / cable modem / internet service. Both have installed the latest Cisco VPN softare, and use the same profile to connect. The differences are, windows 7 vs Windows XP. Windows 7 is running Microsoft Security Essentials and XP is running Comodo.
However, even when I turn off Comodo on XP I still can't connect to the website. (Just FYI, I also have XP as dual boot on the laptop and tried connecting from it but no go). I am getting absolutely no assistance from the company I am working on, so really can't ask them anything, I guess it is something I have to figure out myself. But it is frustrating me. I prefer to work on my desktop and it is set up in with all my development tools etc in a nice environment, where the laptop is noisy and slow and not a preferred work place.
( Home Cisco router WAG160Nv2, Windows Vista)Who is the network administrator on my home network and which device is involved: Windows Vista, Cisco network magic pro ? ; the Cisco router modem with WLAN ?The wireless MAC filter on the modem is disabled. The access is denied to my WLAN and the only one from which I get signals from the neighborhood. My main laptop has access to the network only over the Ethernet, but not over WLAN.My second laptop has access to this network over the Ethernet and WLAN .
I moved to a new place, with a new internet provider (a dorm, so it's all public). In my old place, my PC worked fine (Windows XP), but now it fails to connect to any of the Browsers. My laptop (Windows 7) is fine though with the same cable. No problems at all.
I'm visiting my mom for the holidays and so of course I got roped into her tech problems. She has an emachine with windows 7 that won't browse the internet even though it appears to be connected. The internet works fine in safe mode. She didn't have any antivirus software (in fact, she doesn't have that many programs at all) so I downloaded malware bytes and the scan came back clean. She has Hughesnet (the satellite people) as her ISP and she says that the problem started after they upgraded her modem.I'm a bit stumped as to what the problem could be, since all the google searches I did on the topic seemed to be some kind of problem with antivirus software (having two conflicting, or some kind of wonky settings) or a virus, neither of which seems to be the case.
I have a Windows 7 HP with intel pentium my Internet only works in safemode with networking. Orignially it worked when I used internet explore 64-bit but eventually that stopped working as well. I have 3 accounts on this computer and I need safemode with networking for all of them. I do have both mcfee and norton anti virus i was told that may be the problem however, I do not know how to install either of them.
