Cabling / Cards :: Computer Doesn't Register Anything At All
Feb 6, 2012I've just moved my desktop computer back to my parents house. there is an Internet connection in the house already. if I plug the cable into my laptop it works instantly. when I plug into the desktop there is nothing the green light turns on at the back of the tower but otherwise the computer doesn't register anything at all.

May 15, 2011Up until a couple of days ago, I could connect to a wireless network no problem. Now, it's as if wireless doesn't exist on my netbook.
Computer: Acer Aspire One Model: ZG5 / AOA150
OS: XP, Service Pack 3
WLAN/Driver: Atheros AR5007EG/v7.6.0.224
I've done the Recovery Console and performed the Windows Registry repairs. I've even reformatted the computer, but to no avail at all. And I've done all the basic troubleshooting and surfed forums for way too long and found no solutions.
So this is kind of a last ditch effort. It still connects to the internet via an ethernet cord, so all is not completely lost, but it kind of defeats the purpose of having a netbook without having wireless connectivity.

May 3, 2011I have been trying to re-establish my wi-fi connection for over a day now. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 with windows 7 and it has two wifi adapters, one is the 1397wlan and the other is a virtual miniport adapter. My carrier is at&t uverse/2wire and my service was disconnected for about eight or nine days and since then I cannot get my wi-fi back. The desktop computer works fine but my network adapters are showing attempting to authenticate and not connected for the miniport adapter. I have tried enable/disable, restoring to a previous date, ipconfig/release, and of course running the trouble shooter for Microsoft. The result is that they can't assist with my connectivity issue and that its either the adapter or my router. I can use the laptop with the ethernet cord but its not practical as the router is downstairs and I primarily work upstairs.

May 12, 2011i have a home Wlan network with a TP Link WR541G wireless router, 1 pc connected via RJ45 to the router and have another 2 inactive Wlan pci cards that also recognize the network. on the other hand i have my Gigabyte W576V laptop with a specially added GN-WS50G mini pcie card i installed. now for over a year or so everything was fine and the new card on the laptop recognized the network and connected butifully. now i can see any other wireless netweok around except the original home tplink network. my E72 nokia recognizes home network and every other devide except my laptop.
i have been looking through router settings and special local configuration on the laptop but coudnt find anything.
i dont remember installing any special driver or software in the time it stoped seeing my wlan netwrok. the laptop is 3ft-10ft in direct line to the antena and just nothing..

Jun 20, 2011I've just been working with an SMCWUSBS-N2 network card.[URL]as you can see in the URL, it states that the card can connect with the data rate up to 300 Mbps provided that the access point it is connected to can communicate in 300 Mbps as well.my access point is a linksys WAG160N ADSL modem.but I haven't been able to connect to the access point with more than 150Mbps speed.I almost tried anything that comes into mind at the first place.the wireless bandwidth is 40 MHZ,I downloaded the latest drivers for the card,i tried both in xp and 7,i upgraded the modem firmware to the latest version.i also tried the card with another 300 Mbps access point.but the results are the same.the only speed i'm able to got at maximum is 150Mbps.

The machine only stays off off for 5-10 seconds at a time. I think this is because instead of waking from only a magic packet, it is waking from ANY packet.

Dec 18, 2012My computer freezes during torrent downloading , usually within the hour. I have used various torrent clients and problem remains.I have the latest drivers Realtek 8168 v 7065 . Some suggested to turn Checksumms off from the property menu , but that would increase my CPU load. Some other suggested to turn off Task Offload , but I cant find anything similar in Properties.

Dec 5, 2012I am trying to connect CAT5e riser cable to a GE #76536 network and phone wall plate.The problem I am having is the CAT5e cable has 4 twisted pairs of wires as follows: blue/white, green/white, orange/white and brown/white. The wall plate connection has 8 distinct colors; blue, white, green, orange, yellow, black, red and brown. (or at least that's what they look like to me)None of the white wires from the CAT5e cable have any striping. They are all solid white. I've found color charts for matching striped wires, but I am at a loss to figure out how to connect these white wires to the proper terminals

I want to install my second GTX280 too but I only have a 6x6pin cable. I need a 8x8 aswell. The GTX280 requires one 6x6 and one 8x8 output. Where do I find one?
I CANNOT FIND ANOTHER 8+8 PCI EXPRESS CABLE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. Not EBAY, not any website on earth. Not my retailer or producer. ?
How else can i power the card properly? My PSU has no molex options. My PSU only accepts PCI express 2.0. My PSU is Everest 1200w with 4 of each type of socket.

Dec 12, 2012Ive been using an Ethernet cable to connect to the Internet for a while now, it was working fine up to yesterday where I left my desktop open for a few hours and came back to find that I have no Internet connection.
I used my laptop to test the cable out and it works fine, the wireless works fine too. There doesnt seem to be anything wrong with the modem since I still have Internet on the PS3. I used a different cable to test the modem again with my laptop and I had internet access. The desktop is still connected to the modem but it only gives me a network connection with no Internet.
I tried restarting the modem but it still wouldnt work and I also tried to disable then enable the connection.
Im using Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller with the latest driver.

Apr 12, 2011Can't log on to computer running win xp sp3. I'm getting message that ethernet cable is unplugged but it's not unplugged. The modem/router was installed by Verizon (for FIOS connection) in February 2011. Internet was working fine until a couple of days ago. I have looked at other posts on this issue but have found nothing that would solve the problem. My old dial-up modem was still installed in the computer and had a question mark on it in device manager so I removed it. I thought maybe there was an IRQ conflict as the modem used to use IRQ 11 and the network card (linksys) uses that sometimes as well as IRQ 10 but that didn't work.

May 19, 2012I just bought a 30m CAT6 cable which I installed inside the house, now since my router is on the floor above me I bought a 30m cable to be able to have it downstairs. I don't really know if it has something to do with the PC or if it is the length of the cable that is the problem. But when I try the PC on the main floor the speed is 15-20mbit/s and when I try it on my PC downstairs, all I get is a maximum of 10mbit/s. Jul 28, 2011I am designing a cabling system to interconnect all the buildings in my school.In one of the building, I have 2 patch panels and switch to interconnect cables that comes into the building with cables that runs to the rooms.From what I understand, connectivity should be something like this:
1. Exterior cables coming in through the entry point.
2. Exterior cables terminates at the back of patch panel.
3. Patch cables run from the front of patch panel to a switch.
4. Patch cables run from the switch to another patch panel which connects the interior cabling that runs to the wall socket in each room.
My question:
1. Which ports should I use on the switch to interconnect exterior cable to the interior cable? They should be a connection between the exterior cabling and the interior cabling and both terminates in the same switch, but different ports. How do you allow communication to happen?
2. How do connect all the buildings to the router that connects to the internet?

Mar 1, 2011A few days ago, I noticed that my computer wasn't picking up my wired connection anymore while the wireless connection was still working fine. I opened up my network adapters and my Local Area Connection adapter wasn't even showing anymore, only the Wireless adapter. I updated my drivers, tried different cables and even a different router but still no dice. This morning, when I booted up my system, Windows said it was installing driver software for Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet Controller. I got really excited when I saw Local Area Connection in my adapter menu and plugged in my ethernet cable. Nothing happened and my laptop refuses to recognize the ethernet cable plugged in to it. It's a Dell XPS 1640, Windows 7 x64 with Service Pack 1.
P.S. Usually a little orange light appears in the ethernet port on my computer when a chord is plugged in. When I turned on my computer this morning with the chord in, the light was on. When Windows finished booting, the light went off.
